Had a birthday party at Flying High Trampoline Park- the mens restroom was out of order and was instructed to go next door to Whetstone. Upon entry, I was instructed to fill out a waiver form... What? Seriously? I just needed to use the restroom . The gentleman who was at the front desk could have cared less. He instructed me that it was their policy for a waiver form to be filled out. Even for the restroom I asked. It was filled out and restroom was used and I will never step foot in this place again. They couldnt help a neighboring business in a time of need.

Awesome facilities, staff, and routes. The boulders felt challenging for the grades and were quite inventive in their setting. They covered a myriad of styles, which made them fun without feeling stale or repetitive after 4 hours climbing. And the rope routes were much the same!Overall, a top-quality gym with a very reasonable day price!

Love this place! We bought a day pass and bouldered for a few hours. The place was huge, super clean, and not busy at all during the late morning. We were pleasantly surprised to find their day passes were 50% on Thursday when we went. (Not sure if that’s still the case; staff mentioned prices were changing the following week.)First time climbing in quite awhile so we were rusty for sure, but there were a good variety of routes that were challenging but still within our skill level. It’s cool that you can top out on the bouldering routes. We didn’t do any top rope climbing but they did have a few auto belays.Plenty of cubbies to stash your belongings, extra clean bathrooms and a no-climbing-shoes-in-bathroom rule (thank god lol). Their gym was also pretty nice, with a squat rack, a variety of free weights and other equipment to round out your fitness.Used to be a member at the Spot in Boulder and I must say I think I prefer Whetstone. Not in the budget right now to be a full-on member since we’re already members at a different (non-climbing) gym, but we will definitely be dropping in often!

Great staff, good size. The routes were entertaining, but graded a soft. The overhung lead area is really overhung. I miss my last gym that had an actual roof, but this was pretty close. Kudos for having auto-belays. Its not every day I have a partner. The gym was surprisingly empty right now. You could get reservations the same day.

I joined as a founding member and stayed with Whetstone for the entirety of my time in Fort Collins. Im a huge fan of the top-out bouldering, the clean environment, the overhanging lead-only wall, the double-padded floors, quality of setting, and the well-maintained gym and yoga areas! There is a cute area designated for childrens climbing (complete with animal and letter-shaped holds), and a nice bar with a good beer and cider selection. The staff is always friendly, accommodating, and well-trained. I can attest to their customer service, business practices, and financial integrity; they have clear policies and never try to screw their customers over or leave them unprotected. Both in terms of the quality of climbing, amenities, and business practices, this is one of the best gyms Ive ever climbed at! Their fast success as soon as opening speaks to that. It is a local business that is easy to love to support. Id highly recommend to anyone, beginner or expert!

Brought a new friend to Whetstone today and we were so excited to introduce him to this climbing gym. However, the belay checker this evening is neither encouraging or friendly. She came off bossy and condescending. Thats not at all good for Whetstones business. Because of her, my friend became quite discouraged and all of our excitement went out the window. Well be taking our friend back to Ascent from here on. Their gym is just as good if not better, and their service is more compassionate to the novice. Whetstone might want to re-train their belay check staff on customer service. We were all new to this sport at one point. A little kindness goes a long way.

We recently decided to give learning to climb a go and searched for some intro classes - we stumbled upon the Whetstone intro to climbing class and decided to sign up and get a membership. It hasn’t been long but we definitely don’t regret not trying it out first, everyone has been quite friendly. However, the reason I decided to write this review is because Harrison who taught our intro class, and Steph that checked us off to belay really impressed us; and went above and beyond. Harrison with additional information and effort despite having received his covid vaccine that day; and Steph taking additional time and really going out of her way to teach us a variety of things - when she didn’t have to - even showing us how to properly use different gear. These two make great teachers.

This facility is top notch, but it has some room to grow. Massively large, so large its easy to spend hours here and never repeat a climb. A sizable weight training room, yoga studio, in house physical therapist, bar; the bivy, and a gear shop. Three different training boards, along with a full campus board with wood rungs. All climbs are either top rope or can be climbed on lead, no auto belays which is something I think they could add in the future. Two very large boulders with hundreds of problems, at times it seems like the difficulty of climbs will leans to the harder side. There are easy to moderate climbs but a large percentage reside on the top end of the scale. Resets are nice because you can only repeat the same climbs so many times before they become boring. If youre passing through and have a day to climb inside check this place out.

My daughter got the climbing bug when she was in junior high, and I was the lucky parent who could take her. That was a few years ago and in a different home city. One of the unexpected but totally awesome surprises for me was how welcoming and kind the climbing community can be. I am so grateful to have found the same thing here in Fort Collins at Whetstone. As I get older, I have come to realize more and more how important it is for us to have true play time with ourselves and with our loved ones. Whetstone offers a safe, welcoming environment to play and challenge yourself at your own pace. What I really love about climbing is that a beginner can have a totally exhilarating experience the first time! And you don’t have to be in great physical shape to start (though you maybe motivated to get stronger so you can conquer that boulder route that is haunting you in your dreams!). And there is plenty of room to grow and explore your capabilities. There are ample climbing routes with lots of lead rope. The boulder area is big. People of all shapes and sizes and skills. Family and kid friendly. Free coffee. Haven’t tried the yoga yet, but definitely will. Staff is super cool and helpful.

This is my favorite climbing gym. Routes are kept long enough that a person who can only come once a week can have more than one try at it, but also changed often enough there is always something new to try.The layout of the climbing and bouldering areas can accommodate a lot people so even if it looks packed, you are still able to find routes in or just above your ability to try. This rock climbing gym is amazing! The routes are thoughtful, some technical, some balance heavy, all of the ones I tried very fun. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with people who are very kind and sincerely happy to see you, who clearly love their job. It was not overcrowded, and not overrun by kids like the other gym in the area. I like that they have washing stations outside of the bathroom so you can wash the chalk off your hands before you leave. The bouldering area is unbelievably huge. Great retail space, And cardio/weightlifting area separate from the climbing space but still visible with glass walls. There’s a really cool coffee/beer bar if you need refreshments in between climbs. I am so excited for this place to be here and for Fort Collins to have more climbing options. The bivy is a cool little beer bar to grab a drink after a long climb and they have free coffee in the mornings. That along with seating/tables spread throughout the gym gives off a relaxed vibe.Theres a nice yoga studio and a small-medium sized workout area to mix it up on off days. Ive tried both out - the yoga studio has all the equipment/props you need right there. The gym is simple and gets the job done but itd be nice to see it fill in with some more equipment/machines. First off let me start by saying Darrell was a stand up guy. He was gracious enough to give my daughter and I a tour of the entire facility, as well as a run down of the companies vision. This place is going to be a first class operation that will greatly serve the Nortern Colorado climbing community. Whetstone will definitely have all the amenities, size, and space needed for a fantastic climbing gym. Including a massive climbing area, yoga studio, workout area, great locker rooms, etc. Also, what really set Whetstone apart in my mind was the extras that are included. To serve those with kiddos, there will be a daycare, a kids sized bouldering wall, and top rope section. Perfect for those with kids, or those without kids don’t have to worry about too many kids being underneath them in the other areas. AND to top it all off they will have a bar in there...can’t think of a better way to finish off a good climbing session.I hope all climbers will give this place a visit when it opens! Really great place! It’s got lots of pitches and space for bouldering and belaying and the staff was very kind. The music in the gym was a great selection too

Great climbing gym, probably the 2nd or 3rd largest in Colorado. There is both lots of bouldering and top rope, and for me ( a beginner/intermediate) there were lots of routes that challenged me and also were just fun and easy for me to climb. There are also many challenging v5+ routes that I didn’t try. The bathrooms are very nice, with provided towels and a VERY nice hot shower. The staff is very kind and friendly and my friend and I both got a discount for national women’s day yesterday! Very nice place, probably my favorite bouldering gym so far:)

Skillful route setting; friendly, relaxed atmosphere; great space for hanging out and socializing; ALL around a beautiful, perfect place we are lucky to attend...the half-price Thursday beats the competition for folks needing an affordable day-pass option.

Had a birthday party for my 13 year old daughter and several friends. I had a Sad Panda beer, with a parent, while they did competitive events. Everyone had a good time. Im considering a summer pass.

I came to Fort Collins to visit my brother and his family from California and needed to get some climbing in, thankfully I found this new awesome gym right down the street from his place! Brand new, nice space, great variety and top rope climbing. Everyone was super friendly, we all had a great time, that was months ago. Today Im writing because I had an amazing experience over the phone with an employee named Zach. I wanted to get my brother and the fam a gift certificate to encourage them to climb more (who wouldnt want to right?!) Long story short, Zach did me a solid and Im super thankful, this review is for the badass costumer service that he provided, thanks for being awesome and going above and beyond! I will be back next time Im in town most definitely 🤙🏼.

My kiddo enjoys this 1.5 hour training very much, especially the perfect ratio of instructor to attendants, around 1:3. He feels he learns a lot through professional and attentive instruction.

Whetstone is the best climbing gym I have ever visited. I would like to think that it is a world class rock climbing training facility with all the bells and whistles. I would have given five stars if they had a designated beginner area to offer more for youngsters to try. They had 5.11 and 5.12 climbs next to 5.2s. I think having that back corner just for kids would help to keep them from running around to much. I took my 8 year old and found that there was only two climbs he could do. It would be great if there were more in the beginner level.

Very clean! Great routes with lots of options for all climbers. Little bit out of the way for me and a little expensive. If it was closer and I could use it as my fitness gym and my climbing gym it would make more sense. But as I only climb once a week it is hard to justify making the switch. I would be more likely to switch if there was a more affordable option for someone like myself who only climbs once a week. Maybe a 4 pack that is 52$ or a 24 pack that is $288.00. I know all four of the people in my group would switch at that rate.
