I highly recommend Richards Heating & Air Conditioning. They are the best! I have been a satisfied customer for almost 30 years. Over that period, they have installed two heat pumps and provided maintenance under a service contract.Their technicians have uniformly been very knowledgeable about the HVAC system, are always professional and courteous, and the work is performed in a timely fashion.

We have used Richards since moving to this area in 2016 and have always been extremely pleased with the service we have received. The receptionists who answer the phone and make appointments are the first step in this amazingly easy process. They are always very helpful in setting up appointments to met our timelines. The service people who come to the house could not be more professional. They take the time to be sure the work area is as neat as it was prior to their visit. They are very trustworthy and have never tried to up charge any work. Each one has answered all of our questions and made suggestions which have made our system work better, such as which filters not to use. We have had the same service professionals over the years which helps me to know that this company cares about maintaining my trust. Richards is one company that I have no problem recommending extremely highly!

The first floor bedroom has its own system. The room was very cold because the furnace could not be turned on. Something was clearly not right with the thermostat because I could not select Heat or AC. I am a Dumb Pollock and have limited knowledge. Fortunately, Richards sent Victor to my rescue. He could not be more capable, prompt, thorough, and pleasant. He opened the thermostat and took out the 27-year-old batteries and replaced them with new ones. The room warmed up very nicely and quickly. It is always great when there is a simple solution. Whatever, Victor is paid, it is insufficient. If I need help in the future, I will definitely call Richards and ask that Victor is assigned to the concern.

Richards Heating and A/C is a top notch company. The crew that came out to install a new gas furnace, a/c, and water heater did an amazing job. They removed the old equipment, installed our new system, and cleaned up afterwards. They worked close to 12 hours to make sure it was done the same day. The price was incredibly affordable, and service was outstanding.

Excellent service! The bearings on our twenty year old furnace had given out. We opted for a new furnace, which was installed promptly the next day. The estimated time of completion provided at the start was met with time to spare. The two technicians, Jorge and Rodolfo, gave us thorough explanations on features of the new unit, and did additional replacement of old taping. Very pleased with the service provided.

I called Richards when my furnace went out. Jim Smith came out and gave me a reasonable estimate. Other contractors said they would match his estimate, after quoting higher prices. I chose Richards because I felt he was honest from the start, and the kind of company I wanted to do business with. He worked around a hospice patient schedule with understanding as well. I am a female, and am grateful for his reasonable prices, honesty, and good service.

I want to give a zero star if I can. I called for a project quote. The staff is so rude that she didnt even let me finish my sentence of describing what I am looking for. I think she may heard some keyword that beyond their capability. But she doesnt not even give the chance to finish my sentence. Thats the worst customer experience I have ever had.

Luis just came for routine maintenance and found several problems with the gas flow, temperature being produced, air flow, filter, and the HVAC system was short cycling. Owner Jim Smith and his team, including Micky, the installation manager and sales director, Wayne Shenk, were instrumental in my choosing Richards Heating & Air Conditioning Co., to replace the furnace/ac and thermostat in my 1950s split level house. They were invested in providing education about the systems I was considering and followed up with a professional expertise in installing and servicing the new system. Each of these men were good listeners and offered really good advice. Wayne was so helpful in offering me different alternatives with system pros and cons. Wayne always called back right away and went above and beyond my expectations in giving me information about different ac/furnace systems. Owner Jim Smith was so conscientious as an owner, doing whatever was needed so that I was satisfied with his teams work.Mikey, the installation manager, came from Falls Church to my Bethesda home, just to make sure the thermostat was working correctly and was happy to review the system with me, offering to be available in the future if I had questions. Over all the experience was very transparent. This company prides itself on making their customers satisfied and I am. I am truly impressed by how I was treated. I highly recommend them. I have my AC unit replaced. I am extremely happy with everything. What a great team. From day one with the young lady Theresa who handed my calls, to Jim and the rest of the team who handed the installation.It took us 2 weeks to decide which company we will hire to do the job. Yikes. Technician was rude. Did not listen to the problem and initerrupted every time we spoke. Basically told us we were wrong, the A/C was working fine (it isnt)then charged an exorbitant service call. Would not use this company again ever.

Hands down best HVAC company in the DMV. First class service and professional installation with unbeatable prices. I shopped with 15 other local contractors, all the familiar names in the region, non of them was able to beat the price or provide the quality service Richards offers. I replaced the entire 5ton system (one of the two that we have in this house). Jim guided me through the process, made recommendations and provided excellent customer service. The installers were prompt, professional and efficient. They made sure everything was done right and up to code. I’m a new customer to Richards but my friend who’s been with them for a decade is the one that recommend them. So they’ve been around for a while, they back up their warranties, and they provide excellent service at unbeatable prices. What else would a customer need!!? Ive been a happy customer of Richards for about 10 years, including installation of a new system, routine maintenance with their annual service agreement, a repair five years ago, and another repair when my air conditioning failed during this July 2020 heat wave. No doubt many systems broke down and everyone wanted service right away. Even so, when I called Richards customer service department, their staff answered promptly, and remained calm and friendly. The representative I spoke with asked me a few questions, and she predicted the likely cause of my problem so that the technician would have the necessary replacement part on the truck. The tech showed up on time, practiced COVID-19 safety measures, quickly confirmed the telephone diagnosis and replaced the worn out part. He stayed long enough to be sure the system was stable. Despite working long days and having to tolerate the heat himself, the tech was cheerful and explained everything he did. I highly recommend Richards.

In 2018, we purchased two new HVAC systems for our home for a cost in excess of $15,000. We chose Richards out of three quotes based on reputation, and not because they were the cheapest quote, as they were not. Since then, we have had three separate problems with our primary HVAC system. Twice the AC went down and now the furnace is not turning on for heat. Seems Richards sold us a bad HVAC system. Calls to the company have gone unanswered. We have had to pay another HVAC company to resolve the AC problems, and now have a call out to another company for heat. Very disappointed.Thanks, as follow up, we will try to call you again. After the first problem with the AC this summer, we set up an appointment with you but no one was available until the following week. Your tech did arrive, but we had contacted another HVAC who arrived the same day it stopped working, ordered a capacitor and fixed the problem within two days. We also called your company numerous times but got no response. The second time this summer, the motor went bad and had to be replaced. We did not bother to call you after our first experience. This week, it was the circuit board, and no, we did not call as we need a quick response. Seems we were sold a lemon, sadly. Can you help us get a completely new Carrier system?

Bizarre experience. I read the reviews and saw the occasional 1-star indicating flakiness and lack of response. I dismissed those because the rest of the reviews were so good. Well ...I booked an estimate about a week before they could come. Two guys came to look at the work we needed done: replacing some 50-year-old ductwork in the attic and running some new ducts in the basement. They spent over an hour at our house and said they could do the work. I was told they would send me an estimate by e-mail. I never received it.I called the company three times and left all of my contact information each time. At one point, the receptionist told me she spoke with the guy who said he would send me the estimate that day. I never heard back.Maybe this small business is overwhelmed? If youre the lucky customer who they focus on, good things happen. If not, you get crickets. Be careful taking the time to schedule an appointment with them and give them an hour of your time. Nothing may come of it.

This company is the absolute best!!!!! From the first phone call to the completion of the job they are true professionals who really care! After a horrible experience with another heating and air-conditioning company the prior week Richards proved to be the opposite end of the spectrum! They called to let me know the techs were on their way. While they could’ve installed a universal igniter in the furnace it was not the exact one that the furnace called for so they located one within minutes went and got it and installed it!!! That is true customer service and caring!!! I cannot recommend them highly enough and just wish they did business in Prince George’s County where I live as this was my parents house in Arlington that I am cleaning out. If I could give them 10 stars I would!!!!

I was extremely impressed with this company, starting with the own who came out to view my heat pump/AC, and then the project manager who came out and viewed the pump location in a small closet on my balcony a few days prior to the scheduled work day and moved some things around so the crew would be ready to go when they came to install the unit. The day the crew came out they were on time and very professional. The crew leader, Henry, was outstanding and even stayed late to ensure everything was done and all of my items that they had to pull out of the closet were put back in the closet.When you add the fact that they gave me the best quote out of the 4 that I got, I cant imagine using anyone else for any HVAC work.

Im definitely happy to give them my business.I just had an HVAC system replaced by Richards, and I couldnt be more pleased. Every step of the process has been easy. After asking for a quote from Richards, I received a call from one of the owners who listened to my needs and gave me a number of options as well as solid advice on factors to consider when making a decision. He then followed up with a proposal for three options (high-end, mid-range, and low-end). Richards high-end quote was much more reasonable than quotes from other contractors. Scheduling was simple and quick. On the installation day, the work crew was easy-going, polite, and professional. They explained everything and were able to answer all my questions. Called to have routine maintenance done on my AC unit. They have a $125 fee just to show up. I was shocked to find out that this fee is not credited towards any work they would do on my units, parts, labor etc. Dont waste your money. There are plenty of companies out there that dont charge $125 to do absolutely nothing!

After being a reliable customer for 30+ years I was very disappointed with this company when I needed their assistance most. I had a mold inspector coming out and all I needed was to have them open the AC/furnace unit so the inspector could do his work. The mold inspector only works I Saturday’s and this company does not so I asked for walk through directions on how to simply remove the cover for the mold inspection or some written directions and they refused to assist in any way. After being a relatable customer for so long I though they surely would be of assistance when I needed it most but apparently long standing customers are not important.

We have been a Richards customer for 25+ years and cannot say enough good things about them. They are a local family owned business concentrating on heating and air conditioning system installations and service. They do not try to sell you new windows, siding, roofs or anything else like some of the larger HVAC companies in the area who constantly advertise on radio and tv. If you need a new heat pump or furnace or just need repair service call Richards. We installed two new Carrier heat pumps, a Carrier gas furnace and two air handlers about 15 years ago. Except for routine maintenance and a few parts that needed replacement over the years all systems are still working great. If at some point, we need to replace our current HVAC system well definitely stick with Richards. Luis, one of their senior technicians, serviced one of our heat pumps today and while here diagnosed a problem with the other heat pump and one of our thermostats. He fixed everything. Luis was on-time, courteous, knowledgeable and nicely explained everything he was doing. It rained this morning so he was very thoughtful to put protective covering over his shoes when he needed to check systems in the house. And in this time of Covid-19 he wore a face mask the whole time here. If I could give Richards and Luis 6 stars ****** I would. I should also mention that Cheryl Lynn the service scheduler was very pleasant and helpful over the phone. She called shortly before the technician arrived to let us know he was on his way and five minutes later Luis was pulling up the driveway. Richard Smith did a fine job recommending equipment to replace my existing HVAC system, and provided an estimate promptly. Scheduling installation was easy and the crew installed everything in one day as promised. They were very professional and did a very clean and neat job. My only caveat is that Richards should provide an itemized invoice to be paid on the date of installation rather than much later and only after I had requested it. Overall I still give them 5 stars.

This is the only company that I trust to be honest and give me a fair price! A few years ago I had to move my outdoor condensor unit because I was building a deck. The unit was in the way. I had 4 companies give me a quote. They were the lowest by far. One was 3 times what Richards quoted me. Recently I redid my kitchen and needed to change my thermostat because it was so ugly. Richards did it. When I turned on my AC for the first time months later and it didnt work. Richards came out again and discovered that it was because there was a short behind the thermostat. They refunded the charge to come out and fix it. Mistakes happen to all of us. They stood behind theirs. I wont use anyone else.

Richards is prompt, professional, & efficient. In under 5 minutes, they found a noisy heat pump caused by being not bolted down after a repair by another company in N. Va. We gave them a contract immediately and fired the incompetents, about 5 years ago. Since then, Richards dealt with our old water heater and replaced it with a more efficient, better one. And upgraded our heat and cooling system, eliminated maintenance, and lowered our utility bills. They check the system twice a year and are prompt to repair a problem. Asap, not in a few days by the other co. (one word name out of Fairfax, VA). Only con: R. doesnt service on weekends, but gets here Monday or Tuesday. Others do weekends, at a price. Richards may not be the absolutely lowest price, but I feel they are clearly the best.

Richards Heating & Air Conditioning is definitely one of the most honest contracting companies that I have ever worked with. I have been in the home remodeling business for over 30 years and definitely have a distrust for contracting companies, but I have to say Richards Heating & Air Conditioning have truly honored their yearly “service agreements” that I have signed with them over the last couple of years.To tell you the truth, I never believed that any of those types of service agreements were for real. In other words, I thought hidden in the small print would be a way they would find to get around covering the big ticket items that came up, and even some of the small ones. It was just the opposite. They have covered everything stated in the contract. I thought the companies providing the service agreements would just charge you the yearly fee, and then find a way around it when it came time to pony up.As it turns out they are truly honest. We have had them come out to my property numerous times, for which most of the times they didnt charge us anything at all. For those times that we did need parts, they gave us the parts at cost and charged no labor, which was hard for me to believe. I even went and looked up on the internet the cost of the parts, and it was exactly what they said it was, and they charged no labor, go figure!Bottom line… There is no question their service agreement definitely saved me more each year, for the last two years than I have paid for the service agreement.I would highly recommend this company for any of your heating/air conditioning needs.

The install team arrived on time were careful outside the house and inside the house. The units work perfectly and we are very happy as the feels like temps. are 100 degrees today. On Tuesday night, we had our air conditioner break down in 90 degree weather and 90% humidity. I spoke to one of the owners, Jim, about our options, and by Thursday they were able to get someone out to install a new unit. The next day, we had a separate issue that was causing problems keeping the house cool, and they sent someone out that day and got everything running again.Ive been using Richards for over 10 years now through two homes, and this is a very typical experience from them. Theyve always been very good to us, when we need help, they get us help. Their prices are more than fair compared to the competition, their service techs are friendly, and they know what theyre doing. 10 years ago, we went with them because they were the best price, but Ive been continuing to use them since then because theyve gone above and beyond to keep my business, and I havent regret it once.

I wish I can give 4.5 stars. Our experience with Richards, was almost superb. Upon agreed on costs, they come and in 2 days they have everything working and running. Unfortunately the machine didnt heat due to a malfunctioning motherboard. It took two technicians to find the problem. But during the process Richards staff were always supporting and diligent. They went the extra mile for us by answering the phone at late late hours, etc. They even help you to submit documentation for rebates!!

If you need heating or AC work, Richards has professional people who know what they are doing.Our AC stopped working during the heat of July 2010.We called Richards on a Thursday morning. They sent Brad? to do an estimate pretty quickly. They sent a crew of people I believe on Saturday morning.Our old furnace and AC were old, so we had them replace everything.It took them a lot of effort to remove our old 1942 Chrysler brand furnace. They fixed old problems like a covered-up air return, but they did not charge us extra. I think they lost money on our home.We were able to pay on a MasterCard, so we got a little time to delay payment, and we got reward points on our card.Richards processed the manufacturer rebate for us, and we received it in a timely manner. We will receive the Federal tax refund on next years taxes.

While the installation and pricing was fantastic! Our unit was installed less than two months ago and had already stopped working. When we call their number and press the option for emergency, the lady answering on the other end says that there is no one scheduled to be on call and that she has no way of calling anyone to help. We have a 20 day old infant and our house is heating up higher than the recommended temperature, yet Richards has no one on call to help!

My Carrier Infinity air conditioner had stopped working after almost nine years since I had it installed brand new. So I called several contractors to get quotes to replace it under Carrier warranty program. Most of contractors gave me very expensive quotes(like replacing whole system).I contacted Richard air conditioner and heating company and I talked to Mr. John Smith. Richards is the best! A month ago they replaced the heat pump and furnace for one zone of our home. The work was done promptly and at a fair price.Yesterday we saw a leak that we thought might be coming from a room unit (not the area serviced last month). I called Richards Heating and Air Conditioning in mid June, when my AC suddenly stopped cooling my condo. A technician came out on June 18, said the system appeared to be working normally, dismissed my concerns, charged me $150, and left. Less than a month later, the AC quit completely. The same technician returned on July 17, diagnosed a failing valve, grudgingly admitted that it was probably the source of the earlier problem as well, and charged me $180. Nothing was actually repaired until a return visit on July 20, and another $450. I spoke with several people at Richards by phone and was promised that the owner would call me to discuss the situation and refund the initial charge per their warranty. That never happened. If the technician had properly diagnosed the problem on his first visit, I would have saved $150 and bunch of very hot nights. I certainly wont use or recommend Richards again.

We have been a customer of Richards for many years. They installed two Carrier Infinity systems at our Falls Church home in 2009. We maintained a service contract for some time after that and discontinued it when the contract response time became slow and unreliable. Recently we went back for another try. I wish we hadnt. After two months of effort we still cant get the service manager to call us, and we cant get a repair commitment on a coil replacement after two months. It has been a miserable experience.

We contacted Richards because they service York residential systems. The system was installed in 2013 and evidently had a bad gas valve based on the first service call. Of course they did not have the part (understandable) so they needed to order it and come back. The part was about $80 and the technician installed it in 45 minutes. Between the two visits and the 45 minutes of work that cost $800. I tried to call and discuss with the Sales manager and then the owner to determine why it cost so much and was put on hold for 15 minutes. I finally hung up, paid the bill and determined that I would never use this HVAC contractor again.

Had a tech out a month ago, paying the substantial trip charge. He told me someone from the office would contact me to go over repair recommendations. After 2 weeks of no one contacting me, I called and was told I would hear back within 24 hours. More than 2 weeks later, I am still waiting with no email response from their website either. As of now, the service call charge seems to have been a complete waste of money!

I couldnt have asked for better service that what RICHARDS provided us! My mom was released from the hospital and sent home only to find that her A.C. wasnt working. The temperature outside was 105° and the inside felt like it. They had a technician out to our house and repairs made within hours. Thank God!

We had a great experience with Richards at our previous home, so when we moved a mile away to a home with radiators, we called them to request a maintenance appointment and to help us learn how to take care of our system. I called June 21st and was told that since it was a non-emergency, the first available appointment would be July 18th. That was perfectly fine with us, so I accepted a 12-4 PM window and was told the tech would call 30 minutes prior to arrival.Having heard nothing by 3:30 PM, I called and was told that my appointment was somehow deleted from the schedule. They politely apologized and I certainly understand accidents happen. They offered an appointment on July 21st from 10-12, so I again rearranged my work and stayed home.At 12:15 PM, no one had called or showed. I called again and was told that they would contact the tech. I was told theyd be there in 20-30 minutes. That would mean, by the time I got this information, the tech would at best be arriving an hour after the 2nd no show appointment. I asked if there was a discount on service and was told that wasnt possible. At that point, I felt like I had learned how the company valued my business and opted not to continue to miss work for them possibly (or, likely not) showing for the third scheduled trip.I would offer anyone considering using the company now a lot of caution, especially if they are experiencing an urgent need. We are so fortunate to have not been in that situation.
