Great service, wanted to get some components soldered that i didnt feel competent doing.A note to others: If you dont want to pay extra labor make sure you disassemble as far as you can. Like i just brought in my laptop motherboard bare with parts that needed fixing.

Rip-off - Paid $45 for an estimate and diagnosis. He said he wouldnt tell me what was wrong with the CD player, because he wanted to fix it for $60; rather than let me fix it. It was only supposed to be an additional $55 as an intermediate repair. I asked why it wasnt a minor repair for much less. He said he spent two hours on the diagnosis, which has was paid for and nothing to do with the extent of the repair. No reason to trust this chump.

The electrical power at the Hilton destroyed 4 powered speakers that I use for all our district wide church functions. They worked with JBL to get the correct parts and repair them as good as new. Been two years since the repair and they still work great! It did end up costing about 900 for parts and labor...but that pales in comparison to shelling out 3 grand for new ones. Would have no trouble trusting Jims for other electronic repairs.

Jims was able to solve a major problem for us with a component out of one of our presses. Heidelberg wanted $1,750 for the assembly. Jims got us set up with the switch and soldering required to replace it for $38! Wonderful! Ive had my stereo gear repaired by Jims for over 20 years and have never had anything but pleasant dealings with Jim and his employees. Theyve always been exceptionally fair!

My Pioneer VSX-80 receiver produced an Amp Error code and no longer powered on. After a quick call to Pioneer they gave me the choice of dropping if off or shipping it to Tacoma or Eugene. Unfortunately, I choose the warranty repair from Jims in Eugene.Shipping: I shipped it in professional shipping material and it arrived within 1 day via UPS shipping. I called to confirm they received it and was told everything was in order including the paperwork (which was in the box.)Damage Discovery: Two days later I got a call saying the square box packed inside another square box filled with high quality packing material had been damaged. It seemed weird they didnt notice it upon first opening. It was also weird they didnt ask me if it had dents in it before I shipped it. They either knew it was broken during shipment or after receipt. They initially told me to get money from UPS for the damage but I didnt buy the protection....my fault. I dont know if it was excellent customer service or manipulation of the system but they decided to repair it.Repair Estimate: They told me it would take 30 days to get the repair completed based on their backlog. I thought this was excessive but figured it was a warranty repair so I didnt have any choice.Delay: I called 30 days later to get the status. They had just opened the unit and confirmed they needed new boards and transistors but hadnt ordered the parts. My first thought was why would they wait 30 days to triage the device and then wait for parts. Why not get the parts so they are waiting in line along with the device?I called a week later and they didnt have the parts because they were confused on how to order them. Apparently Onkyo bought Pioneer and the ordering process is different.I called a week later and they didnt have the parts.I called a week later and they got some of the parts.I called two days later and they said they received all the parts and would have it fixed the next day.....One week later I called again to get shipping information (optimistically.) When the rep got on the phone I identified myself. He sighed and said they had a glitch and he knew he would have to deal with this. If he knew he would have to deal with me, why didnt he call to let me know? Why does the customer need to reach out to Jims to find out what is going on? At this point 61 days have passed instead of the 30 days originally estimated. Another week or so will be required for the next part order, repair, and shipping. Two days later I called again to find out they fixed the unit and it was being packaged for shipment as we speak. I hung up with the hope a well packaged UPS Ground box would be heading my way. Unfortunately they missed the shipping pickup and the unit arrived a few days later.Quality of repair: It works but the back has some strange looking repairs and plastic covers. It also seems like the HDMI inputs are mixed around because they dont line up with the exterior labels. This led to a very confusing setup process but ultimately, it worked.Communication: Over the two months my unit resided in Eugene, I received one call from Jims and that was to tell me the unit was damaged and to get my money from UPS. All other communication has been me calling them. Despite my frustrations, I demonstrated patience and have simply asked, what is the status and how long will it take? My communication strategy was based on them possessing about $800 of my money in the form of electronics. I dont know how well the Tacoma warranty repair location would do, but for anyone with the choice in the future, I recommend checking reviews of both locations before shipping off your device.Last oddity...if my original packaging was so bad as to cause damage, why did they ship it back to me using the same packaging material?

I had very positive experience the first time I used Jim. I was quoted $65, he gave me my electronics back and I paid $65.The next time I used Jims service, he quoted me $45, then called back and said it would be another $100 to get my item fixed. Even though the item only costs $100...They basically stole $45 from me.Bait and switch fraud. Avoid.
