Absolutely top notch!! people are down to earth and not obnoxious. they understand and advise the sections that needs attention, and will show you the correct way to lift and or exercise. highly recommendππ
When true passion and business meet, this is the result. This gym is amazing. They have every machine you could ever want, two sets of free weight dumbells, cardio, boxing, and an advanced lifting area. Theres just so much equipment here! Also this place is immaculate. It is kept so clean. The staff is constantly cleaning everything. The owner is also amazing, friendly, and will help you out with whatever you need. Seriously, this place is awesome.
This place is awesome. You wouldnt believe the Facility til you see it. The staff is nice, The Owner is great.
Best gym we have been too! Definitely will drive all the way back to El Paso to visit. It was well kept good service and the equipment was amazing!!
The cleanest gym Ive been to here in town and Amazing looking gym! Staff is super helpful and friendly! Has a Gold Era gym vibe.
Very nice and professional gym. Well organized weights, tons of space and has actual powerlifting equipment which is hard to find in ELP
Great atmosphere, a lot of equipment.
They wont give you a price over the phone?Amazing customer service.
Great equipment, managers are awesome. Owner is super cool as well. Bring a towel to avoid directly touching the equipment.
I joined this gym about a year ago when I was stationed here with the Army, when i went to see the gym it was explained to me that this was a month to month contract. I thought this was great. In October when my husband joined me in El Paso (also military) he joined my contract as well. In December, I had leg surgery and was no longer able to utilize the gym facilities, but we continued our memberships. In March, they closed the gym. The Army was given direct orders that they could not workout at any outside facilities. Backstreet Gym still charged our account during the time their facility was closed $108. May 27, after moving and we went back and asked how to cancel. The front desk employee handed me a card with an address and said all we had to do was send a certified letter saying we are cancelling and we wouldnt be charged further. No problem. We did this the same day and the letter was received May 29. Today, June 15, another draft showed up on my account for $108. I called Backstreet Gym to inquire about this as we had done what was asked of us to cancelled. The person who answered the phone was extremely condescending and questioning me on why I couldnt go to the gym when they have E-9s and Generals going every day! I explained I was given an order that we cannot use local gyms and I am not getting an Article 15 for going to their gym, plus we moved. She kept going back to the fact that other military members are ok with breaking the rules so I should be too. THEN, THEN SHE TELLS ME there is a $500 cancellation fee. WHAT? So I said, this information was not told to me when I asked about how to cancel She told me that I should read my contract. I handed the phone to my husband at this point. Im astounded at the customer service, the fact that they think I should break direct orders from the military, and the lies that we were told by Backstreet Gym.
Just gotta say I really enjoy this gym I brought my brothers in the other day and they signed up too. The equipment is clean and works well, I also love the music they play. The owner is really nice she helps us out whenever we have questions along with the rest of the staff. I will be coming here for a while for sure. I recommend it! πͺ
Clean, modern, fully equipped for power lifters and serious weight lifters. Owned by IFBB pro Mary Ellen Jermubo. Opens at 4:30am during the week. $20 for a day pass is worth every penny. I visited for 3 days on business, walked in at 4:45am and was greeted professionally with a welcome to Backstreet Gym. They have a separate powerlifting room with everything you need and a huge main floor with every weight machine youd need and dumbells to 200 lbs. Awesome.
I was a member of this gym for well over a year. My first impressions were amazing. The gym is well stocked, super clean and never super busy. It was and is a fantastic facility. So why the two stars? In my 30+ years as a fitness competitor and expert, I have never seen such an unprofessional approach to running a gym. The gossip and negative energy generated by the very person who owns the gym boggles my mind.I did my best to mitigate and ignore the baloney, but when an individual actively tries to pull you into the muck one must rethink why they are paying money to a facility that is sub-par when it comes to a positive experience.I have a very active social media presence and I happily promoted this facility. Only to be accused of using the facility to make money somehow under the table or at the owners expense. This is absurd as anybody can clearly see my online presence and I have never made money off the gym.I could go on, but the bottom line is I will not pay good money to be in an environment where the management is less than professional. The extremely high turnover rate at the front desk should have been a warning along with the low membership. I was just happy to be in a great facility that was never full. Now I know why. Ive had several people decide not to join based on their experience with the owner during their visit with me for a workout. This is poor business at best.It is a shame. The place was brilliantly designed and has great promise. It should be the hottest place in town, yet it falls short.Pity, a lot of potential.
The owner is totally nuts. She makes offers but then when people come in for them, they are no longer available.. She treats her staff horribly, only one person has been able to accept her degradation for more than 6 months (how hes been there for years even at the request of his family to leave is beyond me)The gym itself is good, especially if you prefer more old school lifting. However, shell drag you into her personal issues and gossip if you so much as say hello. You have to sign the long contract (the thing is over 5 legal pages long) in the gym and you cannot take it home. The price is high and she runs off any personal trainers that she hires.Honestly, best avoid unless you cant get to Golds
I go here to do one thing; move iron. Itβs the best ever, my only complaint never got selected for vip of the month, lol. Seriously best gym set up anywhere.
I wish I could give this gym 6 stars! I was a member here during my internship in El Paso. This has got to be the best gym Ive ever experienced. It has all of the best weight lifting equipment and also enough racks that you almost never have to wait for weights! A lot of the equipment is so specialized Ive never even seen it anywhere else. And as a bonus, the gym is always clean and all the weights are always returned to their home in an orderly fashion. #femaleownership On second thought, I wish I could give this gym 7 stars... Cant recommend enough.
I called and was told that the gym was free on Mondays after 5 PM (I wanted to confirm this as I had already been told of this offer). I arrived; the paperwork necessary to try the establishment out for free was filled. Upon doing so, a tour was given. At the end, the owner arrived and stated that the offer was not valid anymore and wanted for the membership to be purchased immediately. Unfortunately, time was wasted because of this experience. There needs to be a consensus on what they are doing. I dont know if the workers or if the owner was right, nor should it be my concern - this is deceitful advertising.
Amazing gym! The gym is clean, the weights are racked. By far the best gym Ive ever been to. Stick around long enough and you might even get some free training tips for the owner!
SCAM. You can only cancel your membership by certified mail at exorbitant cost. Clearly malevolent management. Decent facilities.Re the owners response: Valuable membership... Damned right its valuable$, you human vulture.Read things before you sign them, people.
The best place to work out!!!!
This is easily the beat gym I have ever been too, Most equipment Iβve ever seen. The owner Mary is very nice. The place is clean and the staff is awesome. Like this gym would make me move to El Paso lol
Best gym in town with the most equipment!
Absolutely the best GYM in El Paso. The best equipment hands-down.
If you are about real heavy weight lifting go for it. Gym manager is very strict and make sure that everything is working in proper manner, clean and hygienic. No nonsense gym
Looks good but no sauna or pool include it.
In my opinion Backstreet Gym is the best gym in El Paso. I worked in EP for a little over a year. The main area is very clean and well kept. The back, caged area has a rugged and rough feel to it encouraging you to get after it. I made sure to buy a shirt before I moved away so I could give it some rep in CO. She has ever piece of equipment or workout tool you could need from very heavy dumbbells to machines to tires. The only caveat I would offer is to actually read the contract. The only complaints I have ever heard were because people didnβt understand the contract details. Yes, it is cumbersome to cancel if youβve already moved away (certified letter of move) and cancelling prior to the full 12 months results in a very large fee but it is Maryβs gym and she has a business to run. Seems more like a labor of love to me.Also, donβt be surprised if she yells at people for slacking or not cleaning up! Ha
STAY AWAY!! Walked in on a random day to check this place out because it is close to where I live. I was a little weary of the $500 cancellation fee and said Id only sign up if it was a month to month deal ($50/month) with no $500 cancellation fee. This was agreed to and memorialized in the membership agreement accordingly. The agreement was even initialed in TWO separate places by the employee who signed me up. A big X was written over the $500 cancellation fee paragraph in the membership agreement initialed by both me and the guy who signed me up.So I go to pay my monthly membership fee today (which I thought was recurring and theyd charge my card automatically) and they try to charge me a $35 late fee. I ask if they can waive the late fee because I was under the impression they were charging my card automatically. Too bad so sad for me. I have to pay the late fee.I end up requesting cancellation of my membership. I am THEN told I have to pay a $500 cancellation fee and will be referred to collections and the only way to cancel my membership is to send a written request via certified mail. I bring in the contract and the owner says the modifications are void because SHE didnt sign the agreement and I owe $500 if I cancel. What a scam!I then look at my bank account and see a charge for $89, which is the monthly membership fee plus the late fee. Now that they have the late fee theyre happy to charge my card somehow. I never authorized this $89 charge as the late fee was in dispute (I cant find anything in the contract about late fees). I had to cancel my debit card and order a new one.Anyway, I mailed my cancellation via certified mail today. Its almost Christmas (Dec. 23) and this place might as well be ran by the Grinch and Scrooge. I will likely have to deal with a legal action to enforce the $500 cancellation fee waiver initialed in two places by the Backstreet guy who signed me up. STAY AWAY from this gym!!I will say: The gym itself, however, is great. All I wanted was to pay $50 a month and go to this gym to workout 2-3 times a week (without committing for a full year at $500 penalty to opt out). I didnt even go that much. I would gladly go back and change my review to 5 stars if the $50 month-to-month deal that was originally given to me and memorialized in writing was honored by this gym.
Is there any type of gift or something if youre able to bench the 200lbs dumbells???
βTraining with Mary Jerumbo has given me the know-how to enter the gym with confidence! I now know how to use the equipment and maximize a workout with confidence!β β Fernando Z.
All of us at Zenk Marketing feel great working out at The Backstreet Gym. Mary Jerumbo, owner is an authentic trainer with a strong mind. We also love the boxing condition classes!
Best selection of equipment in town!!! The equipment and facility are clean and well kept. Great workout environment!!! Wish there was one on the Eastside...
Live across the street... Went there, there was no one at the front desk. After a while they gave me a quick tour. The guy was snobbish, stupid and just nasty. You can feel the nastiness in the air with their customers attitude. Stay away! too bad I live so close I would have enjoyed just walking to the gym
Best Gym experience in town. Has plenty of equipment to satisfy most if not all work out routines.
Didnt even make it in to the gym! I was wanting a drop in rate for a day as I live out of state. Was quoted $20 a day pass! almost half of what their MONTHLY membership is. Too bad, I am down working in El Paso every 3 weeks and will be taking business elsewhere..
THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!!! NO AIR CONDITIONING! NOBODY CLEANS THE LOCKERS OR BATHROOMS! I dont know how you can pretend to be a premier or nice gym with such terrible management. All criticisms are met with Marys fake responses and then disregard. She is a train wreck and definitely practices what she preaches when it comes to using steroids to get huge at the expense of your body and bones. It is a very unfortunate culture she has created. She represents everything wrong with the gym industry and why people cut corners to look big because they feel ashamed of themselves. The gym is not about fitness but about false appearances and she insults people that she doesnt think are big enough. It is honestly very disappointing to have a place like this in El Paso.
There must be some good juju in this place or something because i guarantee you will grow and become stronger than ever before by subscribing to this gym. Some days I wsnt to go to ep fitness or some cheaper place but the quality of backstreet always slaps me in the face and brings me back to reality. Awesome gym
Phenomenal gym, stopped in while visiting El PasoVery clean, large selection of equipmentVarious selection for the beginner, powerlifter and even strongmanGlad I stopped in, wish I lived in El Paso just for the gymVery friendly people
Great place to work out and you never have to wait for a machine to open up
Excellent equipment! Best in town...
Hands down, Top of the line equipment, clean environment, and best place to get your workout in El Paso. Whether you are a power lifter, cardio enthusiast, body builder, or simply want to step up your fitness game, this place is the best place for you!
Hands down the best gym in El Paso!!!
Went to check out the gym and see what it was like. Dude at the front barely knew what the machines were called, expected me to sign a $1200 contract after a 5 minute tour, then acted snobby when I declined and told me I can go check out other gyms but Id be back here for sure. I dont think so bud.
Best combo of good equipment/flexible hours in El paso
This is the best gym in el paso
Great equipment and is never too full like everyother gym
The BEST gym in town.
I stood there for over 5 minutes to ask about a membership and no one acknowledged me. When I called to get pricing they will not give info over the phone and tell you to go in. Well I did just that, and it was a waste of time because I was never helped.
Great gym, professionals only no BS
Clean and best equipment in the town
Great gym.
