Good place to help adult people learn to speak English. The staff and the tutors are the best.

Literacy New Jersey is a very successful organization which helps to give adults the chance to learn how to read and speak English in order to become more active members of society. LNJ also gives adults the opportunity to become US citizens and helps students study for and pass their citizenship test. LNJ utilizes local tutors who donate their time to the cause and this has helped the organization have such successful outcomes!

The previous reviews are not completely objective. Literacy New Jersey is one of the most corrupt organizations in line with Rutgers University New Brunswick. One of its directors, Melissa Bernstein (formerly known as Melissa Cohen) refused to consider me, a disabled person w/ a teaching qualification, for teaching an ESL group at a library that is near my home. I have substantial proof that she never intended on considering me for those opportunities. In fact, she questioned as to why I wouldnt accept a volunteer position that is very far away from me, and that Im only interested in the one thats near. Her and LNJ will never give me, or those with a disability the light of day. For those who are disabled and considering LNJ, I highly recommend that you find another organization/company that will actually give you a chance.

LiteracyNJ in Hudson County has a mean lady running it. She is rude and raised her voice at me. When I call her she never answers or returns my messages. When I see her she tells me I have to call her. I went to their address from the flyer on Kearny Ave and the person running the program was not in at 3pm. The person at the desk said she was at Kearny Library (address not on flyer) and when I went there she wasnt there either. I had to get my mother into another program because I was sick and tired of dealing with this.
