My wife had told me she saw bad reviews on transmission fixes they provided but I told her to do it here anyway. Big mistake! To start off owner said they did the the whole job right there at the shop well as you can guess he was lying all they do is remove transmission & they send it to someone who actually rebuilds/fixes it. He took two weeks after he said it was going to be 3-4 days. As soon as car was done it was still acting up engine light came on as well, checked anywhere with a computer all came out the same it was the transmission. Took it back & all they did was remove the light & said it was fine. It was like this for a WHOLE WEEK! To top it off when my wife went to pick up the car she saw they had bended both sides under the doors(pictures attached below) she told owner this all he said was it should come out quick didn’t even offer to fix or give a discount for denting it! Paid 1600 dollars for a job that was not done right! Ended up telling my wife to trade in the car before problem got worse that’s how bad it was. He treated my wife poorly I would assume for being a woman thinking she didn’t know anything he was even bold enough to say “if there was something wrong with the car we wouldn’t be able to remove engine light” the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard! This place is the exact reason people don’t trust mechanics! Do yourself a favor & go ANYWHERE ELSE!
Another shop quoted me $888 for a simple ac blower motor. These guys got my car in and out for a much more reasonable price today. I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Ive been taking my trucks to Mr. Pena for the last few years.. he always gives me a call if something unexpected pops up or to give me an update on my truck.. Hes the only mechanic in town I trust with my vehicles. His prices are reasonable and he tells you what to expect price wise up front.
Great people. Great service.
I am writing this review to possibly keep someone from wasting their time, money, and energy if they have a problem with the transmission of their car. Please read through! After six years of having a pre-owned vehicle without car troubles (just regular maintenance), in early 2021, my car started messing up. Little did I know that not asking around about trustworthy mechanic shop or look for reviews would turn into not having a vehicle to get around in the RGV for over one month!!! YES for more than one month. The first time we took in the car, Mr. Pena told my husband that the problem was the transmission and was quick to say that fixing would be over $1,000. It took us a day or two to figure out what we wanted/needed to do, and because the car is in excellent condition we decided to have the transmission fixed. My car was in the shop for a little over two weeks and it was returned to us on April 8th, 21. The job was outsourced to a transmission specialist which he didn’t mention until we had paid him full amount to have the car fixed.About two weeks later, on a Saturday afternoon, as I was driving home from work, my car almost stopped turning the street. I got so scared and was thankful my daughter wasn’t in the car with me!! As I was in a high traffic area. I mentioned it to my husband, and he thought I was playing! Sunday came around and we went to the store in my car. To our surprise, in the way home, my vehicle would struggle to accelerate… my car would NOT drive over 20mph!!!!My husband called the mechanic as he had given us 1yr or 12,000 miles of warranty (whichever came first) to tell him that the car wouldn’t drive over 20mph. We waited two weeks before the mechanic could take our car to get fixed. We gave the mechanic time as we wanted our car to be fixed correctly this second time, but it has been one month and four days wince we took it and until today, he has not have our car ready. He outsources transmission work and points at the person who is actually working on my cars transmission!!I was lucky that my parents have an extra vehicle otherwise, I would have gotten around on lift or Uber with a toddler to daycare, work, home, and necessity trips!!! Please do your research and take your time before deciding where to fix your transmission and DO NOT go to Pena’s Auto Repair in Edinburg TX. He will take your money fast but will take his time to fix your vehicle! It’s not Wirth our time or money!!!
Penas auto repair shop was a wonderful experience for me. It is a family owned business with friendly service. No hidden fees. They are honest and attentive to the customers. Thank you penas auto.
Great and fast service. They do a thorough job. Will be back next time any of my vehicles need service!
Outstanding service as always, and very knowledgeable.
Mr. Pena did a fantastic job on our vehicle after it broke down. He was very friendly and courteous, he also recommended a tow truck that was very reasonably priced. He did an outstanding job I was very amazed at how quickly they got the job done at such a low price. He even picked me up so I didn’t have to get a ride or walk to his shop. I very highly recommend Mr. Pena
They did great job for my daughters car.
Took my van here 3 or more times in a month and they said they fixed the problem but they didnt. Spent more than $300 for my van to just keep turning off. The 2nd time I brought it they had finished working on it but didnt call me and it had been too long so I just showed up and they said it had been ready for a few days. Do yourself a favor and find someplace better
Knew what they are doing
Very expensive and they didnt fix the problem. They didnt want to correct the problem he just kept making excuses
Very great service!!!
Had a great Experience with Penas Auto Repair. These guys are great and get the job done fast. I have taken our cars to this shop for about 3 times. Every time I never had to go back. The prices are reasonable and offer lifetime warranty with parts. I was really impressed how they literally waited for me to call them back to pick up the vehicle even after closing time. My phone was on mute and I didnt call them back till an hour later. I would of understood if they had already gone home but they didnt. I called them back as soon as I saw the call and they waited for me. GREAT JOB GUYS.
I recommend Penas Auto Repair to Any & Everyone needing automotive care done to their vehicle. Mr. Pena helped me fix my wifes Jeep over the telephone. His Automotive advic6was dead on Accurate.
Took my Honda Accord because my AC was not working. Turns out I had a bad condenser. Replaced it and got my AC working again. Took only about 4 hours. Fast service and cool guys to work with. I plan to go back to get more work done.**edit**They botched my wifes Cadillac SRX repair. They did an oil change and something else when that was not the problem. The problem ended up being a timing chain issue. Had they just hooked up the OBDII scanner they would have known this, but all they did was clear out the CEL light. It came back on later that day. Waste of money.
Extremely fast service and very knowledgeable mechanics. They are honest and never try to scam me for more money because Im a girl. Love it here.
Well it started with a very convincing conversation that the universal joints on the drive shaft would be done by the end of that day. Well sure enough it was as they said. Thinking that they had test driven the truck. My son brought it home only to find out that it still had the vibration. As I took the liberty, with some of my experience, and looked under the truck to see the universal joints only to find out the obvious. It was noted that the univ. Joints were too big because the ring pin on one side the ring pin was not in the groove, they extended too far off past the groove. Well only for the owner to tell me that the legitimate ones would cost me more money. So even he acknowledged that they werent the right ones. Never again. Also my daugh. In law took her car in for overheating. Ended up with no A/C. Was working fine. Only to find out by me that a simple wire was disconnected from the compressor. Totally not right . Take it from there very disappointing. They wanted to charge us extra! Not responsible and wont own their mistakes.
Experienced & trustworthy mechanics
I had a great experience at Penas Auto Repair. They took me in right away, fixed the problem and very affordable. Thank you Noe!
Been to Penas a few times...Hell let you know exactly what work needs to be done, gives you a price and does the job right. -Lee
They do good work, and they work VERY quickly. But, make sure you are very specific with what repairs you need done. Also, its best to only go when the owner is there.
Well informed by them and expert service. Definitely a positive experience with true professionals. They offered to have me leave my car with them if I wanted a quote on what was more than my battery: camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.
They are the best!!!Excellent service:)
Quality mechanics with competitive prices. Talk to Noe or Joe and you wont be disappointed.
Great services, great prices. Do recommend. Ive decided to take my car there everytime somethings wrong with it
Took my car to get looked at cause dealership couldnt fix the problem. The mechanic checked it and all it needed was a wire. I got free diagnostic all I paid was for a wire that needed to be replaced. He even dropped me off at work and picked me up when the car was ready. Didnt charge me either. They now do all my families oil changes or anywork needed. Thanks for saving us lots of money in repairs. I highly recommend them.
Best place, the only mechanics i trust, incase i cant fix it my self, this is the best place to go
Great service and really friendly, knowledgeable staff
Awsome people they get the job done asap. Id recommend penas to everyone .
My family gets all our repair work done with Mr.Peña. Hes a nice guy, and does good work at fair prices. We only had a problem once where one of his new guys seemed to having trouble fixing the air conditioning if I remember correctly. We took it back twice to have it double checked, but he never charged us for any of those extra trips. He warranties a lot of his work, so if you have any problems later, he wont charge at all, or he may just charge for the parts if you dont buy them yourselves (which we usually do since his shop is pretty close to an OReillys.) Once, my sister and I got stuck there waiting for our car, and the guys brought us some breakfast tacos! They had offered to drive us home, but since it wasnt a repair that would take too long (maybe about an hour) we opted to wait. Some of these guys might look a little scary, but dont worry. Theyll take good care of you and your vehicle :)
EDIT: The original comment is below. I had originally given this shop 5 stars, but after my last service visit, all I can say is, to hell with this mechanic shop. Allow me to explain. I took my car to the shop for some mechanical issues. They called back a few hours later saying it was good to go, so I went over, paid the bill, and decided to drive it around a little bit to make sure the car was ok. I drove it through stop-and-go traffic for about 5 miles and then took it home. I turned it off and noticed coolant leaking from the engine. I took it back and it turns out that somehow the head cracked. This is usually caused by driving the car aggressively or overheating. The car has never overheated and we barely even go past 3000 rpm. Now I need to replace the head (about $600 part) and pay a different mechanic to fix it. The only thing I can think of as to how the head cracked is if the mechanic that did the repair test-drove my car in a very aggressive way and cracked the head.To hell with this shop and the way the manager handles both the clients and his employees.ORIGINAL POST:I took my 2006 Malibu to get serviced. It was misfiring and I had already ran out of troubleshooting steps so my next step, naturally, was to take it to a shop. Im new to the area and this shop was recommended by the guy at OReillys.I explained to the mechanic what I believed the issue was. He was a bit hesitant since he said it sounded like a dealer-level issue, but decided to accept the car and said hed try to diagnose it at the very least.I stopped by about 2 hours later to drop off the old spark plugs so they could see what I saw and they gave me a quick update to what was going on, walked me to my vehicle, and physically showed me what they had done. I left to run some errands and about an hour or so later, they called me to let me know they had figured out the fault and that my car was ready.I showed up, chit-chatted with the owner a tiny bit, paid, and drove home. I popped the hood and the shop had done exactly what they had charged me for. All in all, for two hours of labor and the new engine part, the price I paid was accurate and honorable.I also asked about some minor repairs for my second vehicle and they gave me a quote similar to other shops in the area. I dont sense any foul play from the staff, and their work as far as I can tell is true. Ill definitely be bringing my vehicles here whenever I need a professionals aid.
