We have been at karate international for the last seven months I have three kids that go here and it has been A great experience for my kids to learn self-discipline as well as respect! What really caught My Eye was the way that they announce themselves walking in and out of the building:)I thought it was quite honorable! My daughter is very shy so this class helps build a great confidence in her personality around other children! The Sensei is always very helpful since day one! And even in a group setting still gives one on one to the kids while teaching the entire class! You can see black belts all around still working with others they’re helping improve their skills and my kids love it ! Everything speaks for itself! Totally worth the time and effort! And reasonably price as well!! That’s always a deal!!

Karate International--its leaders, staff, and programming--have been outstanding for our daughter. She has realized and developed leadership capabilities, assertiveness, and friendships that are shaping her whole person. Everyone here embodies and expects the discipline and perseverance spoken of in their creed.Incoming KI families need to know that this is a family endeavor. Parent coaches are important supports; this is not a drop-and-go program for kids, nor do they hold a trophy for everyone mentality here. Every belt is earned through time and high quality practice; I have consistently seen teachers take an equitable approach to ALL students in meeting their goals.Most importantly, if an issue arises, Hanshi Bowen and the staff have been extremely responsive to concerns. He has taken the time after class, for example, to provide extra guidance to my daughter in appropriately using her self-defense in real life situations. Because he has daughters himself, I have found him to be attentive to the unique needs of girls, as well as very inclusive and equitable to all races, religions, and cultural backgrounds.Affordability is relative in situations like this. When I look at value, we are absolutely getting the most value possible from this program. We attend regularly, are proactive, take advantage of discount offerings, and prepay in advance if that is available.The kids are developing into top-notch, disciplined, very worthwhile leaders. KI is a real gem in Durham.

My son has been in this dojo ( karate school) for 4 years. He loved it and I had a great experience with the overall education and discipline provided by the school. Mr. Chris, the sensei is a very well disciplined instructor with full energy and is always there to help young students. My son won 11 trophies by attending different tournaments. I am so proud of my son and Mr. Eller and all supportive team. I recommend this Dojo to everyone who wants their kid to be highly disciplined and successful in their life.

Ever since my daughter enrolled at Karate international I have watched her self confidence bloom. She went from a shrinking violet who would barely speak to people above a whisper, to a confident, focused and capable young lady in just a few short months.I would highly recommend this school to anyone with a child dealing with crippling shyness, or social anxiety, or who just wants to watch their child mature before their eyes in a positive, safe, and fun environment.5 Stars

I would recommend Karate International of Durham to anyone at any age who is interested not only physically, but mentally as well. The school is based on honor, respect, integrity, discipline, & focus. Grandmaster Jessie Bowen & staff have a gift to meet people where they are and help bring them up to their highest potential! My son has began as a shy, quiet student over 5 years ago and now is a confident, well-spoken leader in & outside of the school!

I love the instruction, discipline and skills my sons have learned. They absolutely love it and I believe my sons confidence level has increased however they are very expensive. You have to pay a high monthly fee plus belts and your child ranks higher

My daughters and I love coming to karate international of Durham. I love the focus on self control, communication, and becoming a confident leader. My girls have learned invaluable lessons of working hard to accomplish a goal and to not worry about others accomplishments but to only focus on pushing yourself to be your very best. They are becoming strong, dedicated and confident martial artists and its been amazing to see their growth over the years. In August of this year two of my daughters will be testing for black belt and I cant be more proud of them. I know that the ideals they have learned at KI will help them throughout life and the techniques they have learned will make them a force to behold.Yes there are costs involved but thats with any extra curricular activity and my theory is that at least with Martial arts it can help them throughout their life.If you are looking for a martial arts for you or your child, or you AND your child come to KI of Durham. You wont regret it. And remember a black belt is just a white belt that never gave up.

*update*Dropped the rating to 3 stars bc I noticed over time that they favor and promote boys over girls a lot. I didnt want this to be true but as I watched girls strain to be noticed and get overlooked for boys that did not even practice proper techniques I couldnt deny it. A girl can reach black belt here but she wont be a Golden Child.*update*Good fun & instruction for the kids. Has helped my daughter with self-confidence and self control, which I feel has given her a boost in school. The adults that are enrolled at KI are very dedicated and seem to love coming to the dojo each week. The instructor, Hanshi Bowen and his assistants are extremely dedicated to the art and their students. Many students have become black belts at this school.Only reason I dont give 5 stars is because its very expensive, even overpriced I dare say, and you have to pay for every little thing. You must be ready to dish out the cash, and possibly your first born child, to pay for this. Seeing my baby girl focus better and be more successful in school makes it worth it though. One day, hopefully, she will be part of KIs black belt club.
