Lonnies was the third mechanic to which Id taken my VW Golf with an intermittent steering problem. They were the first to provide a realistic diagnosis—failing control module in the steering rack—and they repaired it at half the price of the dealer: $2,000 instead of $4,000. To top it off, they replaced the whole rack and pinion within two days. Id highly recommend them.

Had to get the secondary air pump replaced in my sons Passat to pass inspection. They worked fast and got it inspected by the next day. Great service and the reasonable price.

Great place to get your car serviced

They were very quick and I was in and out for service. I find it is best to be on location when they open if you can not leave your vehicle because they do not take appointments. Despite that inconvenience of not taking appointments they have been accommodating for the most part. I was going to that shop when it was owned and operated by Mr. Hawkins and so by default I still take my older vehicle to them.

Lonnie’s has the best prices around If you are looking to get your VW serviced! From the first phone conversation they really made me feel at home and kept me informed throughout the whole process of my repair. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back!!

In the 100+ degree heat all major VW dealerships in the area turned me away for a simple A/C evacuation and refrigerant recharge. Lonnie’s was kind enough to be able to fit me into their schedule and they fixed my A/C quickly and cheaper than other places in the area. It’s a 45 min drive for me with traffic, but I’d come back for such great service.

This is one of the best car repair/service places I have ever used in my life! People there are super helpful and friendly. They are thinking of helping customers by making repair recommendations best to the customers need and budget - I and my brother had three old cars serviced there. With great patience, they were never tired of fixing a tricky problem of my old 1994 Honda Del Sol, when I almost decided to give up!

Highly recommend this FRIENDLY neighborhood garage. It was looking like I would be stranded, or at least limping home from a far business trip, when I was recommended to Lonnies. The guys where able to squeeze me in with little notice and give my car a once over so I could check my options. Luckily the main issue appeared to be a bad spark plug and the team threw a old one in to get me home free of charge. Wish I had a helpful and trustworthy garage in my city to work on my car.

84 vw westfalia subie conversion. left florida heading to the obx for a much needed vacation, some good wind and kiteboarding fun when I lost 1st and 2nd gear. I asked around for recommendations and called Lonnie. He was just getting back from lunch and said he would look at my trans. Turns out my aftermarket shifter ball and ball recepceptacle at the transmission were bad. Lonnie had a replacement shifter ball. He installed it and corrected the defective recepepticle ball cup, checked the trans fluid, adjusted the shifter mechanism and I was back on the road in 2.5 hours. He was busy with other jobs but took the time to get me back on the road and I want to post this because he earned my gratitude for the good work, very timely and and very fair price. thanks again Lonnie

I very much appreciate Doug and Lonnie. I got a car from a independent dealer in Wake Forest. The check engine light came iton not even a day after I got the car. I took the car to their mechanic 5 times and still couldnt get the check engine light off. I didnt trust any off them anymore to touch the car so began looking for someone else when my boyfriend called about Lonnies. I spoke with Doug he was very nice on the phone asked what It was doing and said we will check it out. They called me to let me know what the problem was and what esle I needed to get the car straight. Took my car to Lonnies for the first time to help diagnose a service engine light. They worked with me over a couple of visits to help determine what the issue was. They looked at my car multiple times to correctly identify the possible cause without doing unnecessary work. All the staff that I worked with were professional and helpful. The mechanic that worked on my car came out and personally talked to me about the issue and what he recommended going forward. I will definitely go back to have them work on my car in the future as I had nothing but great service!

I took my car to Lonnies based on 1st the price I was quoted for a complete diagnostic and 2nd on the friendly open line of communication that I received after calling multiple times to get better informed of the detailed services they offer. After the diagnostic was completed I was called and informed of everything that would need to get done to get the car running good. I told him I would call him back to let him know of my decision. I decided to get a second opinion. After informing the mechanics of my decision he informed me that one of his mechanics had performed a service on my ac unit that would be an additional charge, so i was quoted almost double what I initially expected. After discussing the unfairness of this business transaction I cannot trust this business to perform all the services stated at the price quoted. The fact the address is located on Christian Ave does not make this situation any better.

Would definitely recommend finding another shop. We we our $1321 did not have a car for 3 weeks, and our car broke down with an engine problem, on the freeway, less than two miles after leaving Lonnies shop following an engine repair. Lonnie refused to do anything to compensate us. Lonnies told us that our car having an engine problem two miles after leaving was bad luck. The bank says that if you sign on the dotted line and authorize the repair, and they do the repair, you have to pay for it. I recommend finding another shop that can guarantee that the work that they do on your car will actually help get the car back on the road.

A real find!I am not one to write reviews, but sometimes you have a unique experience that cries out for recognition.By way of background, you might call me an old gear head, I own six cars, including a couple of classics, and know my way around auto repair and body shops. Recently I had occasion to Drive 12 hours and 600 miles from New England to Durham to drop my daughter off at college with her, new to her, 2002 Lexus ES 300. It performed flawlessly until the following morning when its failed to start. We identified the problem as the starter but had precious little time to fix it as I was flying out the next morning. I contemplated buying tools and doing it myself in the parking lot when someone recommended Lonnies. Initially they indicated they could not take us until the following morning but when they heard our predicament they agreed to replace the starter that afternoon. They were fast, efficient and fair in their pricing. In fact I feel guilty because it took them an additional 45 minutes to clear codes since the battery had been disconnected so long. Whats most impressive is they never complained about or charged me for their extra effort and they did all this while their owner was absent recuperating from an illness. In other words, it is the culture of Lonnies to treat customers with Southern respect, perform quality work and do the job right. Now that Im back up north it is a great comfort to know I can rely on Lonnies to care for my daughters car when I cant be there myself. Thank you.

Gave me a list of the things wrong with the car (fairly lengthy, being a VW Jetta with 130K miles), and itemized which ones HAD to be done to pass inspection, which ones were a good idea to do now, which could wait for a while, and which ones not to bother with. Charged me $270 in labor for work that I later discovered should have taken a half an hour max. They did diagnose and fix my car, but at a very inflated price.

I bring my VW exclusively to Lonnies. I have found them to be competent and trustworthy: They want to help me keep my car running well while being cost-effective -they think of ways to save me money by combining services, postponing non-essential work, or getting used parts when appropriate. When they have made a mistake, they made it right without charging me. I have used them for the past 6 years at least.

Lonnies was recommended to me by my BMW mechanic, who told me Lonnies is the place for VWs. I took my wifes car over, and Lonnies staff diagnosed the problem, completed the repair, and had the car back to me in a day. Communication was prompt and professional, even when it turned out the one day it was going to snow was the day the car was ready. The price for my repair was very reasonable, and I felt at ease with the staff and customer service crew.A big plus for us was the ability to pick up the car after 5PM, and we had the option to go in at 7.30 am, had we needed it.I will recommend Lonnies to anyone who needs their service, especially if youve got a VW.

This place is HORRIBLE. I went here with a broken fuel pump (I knew it was broken, and I told them it was broken). Lonnies mechanic plugged my car up to some computer and he said it wasnt my fuel pump, but instead my MAF. So they fixed the MAF, gave the car back to me, and it was still broken. So, acting in stupidity, I took the car back. I asked them to fix it properly, so they fixed the thermostat next, saying it also threw a code. Well, low and behold, that didnt fix it either. So I took the damned car to auto zone, bought a fuel pump, put it in myself, and VOILA, it was fixed. I ended up paying Lonnie over SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for parts I didnt need, and he refused to give me my old parts back and refund me. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CARS HERE.
