They are really nice. They try to help u in anyway they can. Ive never had a bad time with them.

I made a mistake trusting that the La Plata County Department of Human Services would help me on a path to self sufficiency during personal tragedies or financial crises over the years while struggling to raise my family. While this was many many years ago and i know things are different now, i was treated in numerous ways that now would be considered inappropriate and damaging to other human beings. Along with a spectrum of disrespectful treatment my assistance was always met with red tape for instance, I was eligible for childcare assistance but there were waiting lists, i was eligible for Medicaid but there were no doctors or dentists in the area taking medicaid for just two of the examples and affordable housing has always been a nightmare in this community and all while dealing with those challenges i constantly struggled to meet the deadlines and requirements given to by the departments programs. It took years before i realized this was no sort of path to self sufficiency. In subsequent years i have been punished financially, threatened and coerced into paying that inadequate assistance back to the county and have had my independent path toward self sufficiency blocked by the countys persuit of me financially as if im some successful person who took advantage of the system, I believe the system totally failed me and shame on me for thinking it could have been otherwise.

You all are amazing individuals who take on the most brutal caseloads and for that... I want to let you know the appreciated values of kindness that you have provided me over the years. I am always reminded that people do actually care, and by nature want to make the world more... simple. Thank you, from every beat of my heart. God bless all of those whom simply do the next right thing, just because it was the right thing to do.

A nice fassad but behind telescreens folks can only cut you off of the bottle when you still havent discovered a source of milk. These folks high and dried me 3 years of anguish. Just working with them makes sickening. They dont return.

People have really been great in the past few months. They call back and seem to really care about getting stuff right. Kudos to yall!

I had an hour long phone interview with Stephanie about getting my ebt. She spoke with supervisor and told me I was approved for one month (oct) of ebt and that it would be loaded by the next day. I do have more documents to submit for reoccurring benefits, yet the approval she told me was for one month and that I have until the end of the month to receive my other reoccurring benefits. They never gave me the benefits for the month of October and blatantly lied to me. I highly recommend you record your conversation with these people as they lie to you and get your hopes up and then say they don’t remember saying what they said. You are ruining people’s lives and never call back. Thanks for being the worst! You are here for the people and yet don’t help anyone who is actually in need.

Trying to help humans succeed

The staff has always been so helpful and makes sure I understand the state regulations according to my case. I understand they are struggling with case overloads right now because they are shorthanded. They are still doing an amazing job!

Every month these people take something from me then give it back. This month it was my Medicaid. I’m on permanent disability and can’t work. I received no notice that I was losing my Medicaid. They will not return my phone calls and the lady at the front absolutely refused to set an appointment and told me nobody would see me. Now I can’t get my insulin or see a doctor. Never had problems like this until I moved to Durango.

Such a pleasure to be a business partner to these amazing individuals who care so much about their community!

Not crowded like most Human Service Depts Ive been to in major cities. Very helpful and friendly staff, considering what they must deal with on a daily basis. Super sweet they have a kid friendly area with a teeter totter and books.

This is a really good place to get friendly professional help with a lot of patience for people seeking direction and assistance. Wait times are only 5 to 15 minutes. Ask lots of questions, and get lots of help.

Ive been coming here for while and Ive talked to two very nice and pleasant ladies. Every other lady Ive talked to has been very insinsitive and very rude! Makes it hard to come here when your already struggling. Than they make you feel worse.

The animals all seem very well taken care of. I almost fell for a little kitten in there tbh. The dogs are all pretty friendly. (PLUS! Guess what, NO KILL SHELTER!♡)I also loooved the Thrift Shop nextdoor, the aspect of reusing/recycling to help raise money to save some kittens and puppies life is great.Anyways, Ill go again and probably adopt my next furry friend there.

They were able to help me every time I had question, and they were able to help me when I was in deep need and set me up with SNAP and old age pension. Great people.

Called to find out why I hadnt received a document they said they would send me, and after listening to the interminable outgoing message that was obviously designed to make you hang up before you can leave a message, I left a message. The outgoing message said they would call me back in 24 hours. They didnt. Two days later I called back, listened to the message again and left another message. After another two days someone finally called and left me an extremely snotty message about how busy they were and saying essentially that my request was stupid and of course I would get the document. That was two months ago, and I still dont have the document.
