In general, quite good service and communication. Generally good selection of cars and competitive pricing. Did notice on a recent rental (Detroit) that the car was not very clean on the inside, especially the windshield, which we had to clean ourselves. I hope quality control is not suffering because of the pandemic as service has typically been excellent.

It was great coming back to the Industry Standard in car rentals. I have travel extensively for my corporation and have been executive level with National for many years. One of our Exec thought it was a good idea to switch us to Hertz to supposedly save money. The last three years have been horrible and makes you appreciate even more how smoothly things run at National. They figured out they werent saving money and there was a significant drop in service. Its great to be back.

Coming to pickup this car with an Executive tier today now you can’t pick it up because national area manager have them Parked on side for special reservation so national can’t keep their promise with loyal customer because it the holiday. I don’t recommend people to fall for national tier because it’s the way to take you money with no benefits. @ national stop being ungrateful to costumers you have zero ingratitude. Arobye

I always use National Car Rental, and the service is normally top-notch. This past weekend, I rented a car at DTW airport. No problems at all picking the car up, and my time with the car was fine, until I returned the car. The rental personnel were demonstrably waving their hands directing different lanes for returning vehicles to park. I thought I pulled right into the lane I was instructed, but the lady attendant became visibly disgusted that I missed the direction from her co-worker. She raised her voice, and disgustedly shook her head. She then high-handedly told me to, Leave the doors open, and the keys in the car! When I asked nicely if I could get a receipt, she scoffed, and said, Not if you want to catch that shuttle!, and proceeded to walk away. I know businesses are understaffed and overworked right now, but courtesy to customers should still be #1.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the branch at Detroit Metro, we were forced to pay for a 2 day rental, when all we needed was one. I talked to 3 different people at National and they all said, thats what the computer says, trying calling the branch to talk to them.A very frustrated and overcharged Executive Elite customer

The car was ready when I scheduled. Customer service was perfect. When I dropped off I left a bag in the car and when I returned to retrieve it two customer service agents helped me find it within minutes. I was very happy that they stayed involved and didnt just leave me to hunt it down on my own. Yay! I will rent with National again!

Easy to navigate their website to make a reservation. Shuttle bus from DTW airport to the car rental location was clean and driver was professional. I had reserved a car as an Emerald Club member but they did not have any cars remaining in that section so I asked the attendant what my options were. I had reserved a full size sedan but he was able to upgrade me to an SUV instead! I was very happy with the selection available in that car type and had no issues with the car during my entire weekend with it. Returning the car was very easy and had no issues at all. All the staff/employees were professional & very nice!

Thanks, National, for your friendly, good-humored employees, from the shuttle driver who gave helpful airport tips to the return check-in employee who gave a cheerful grin when I managed to pop the engine hood instead of opening the trunk for my luggage.

I have used National for years and am an Emerald member. The vehicle I rented in Detroit was the dirtiest I’ve ever seen. I could not even see out the windshield, the INSIDE was disgusting. I carry wipes when I travel and wiped down the steering wheel, all knobs and dash. The wipes were gross and brown. For sharing the sign about the car being clean and offering 1 wipe I’d be embarrassed. It smelled and it was dirty. I am not a Karen complainer but this was bad enough I wanted to say something. My coworker also had a car from there the same week and his was disgusting too. I’d definitely discuss the ways to clean a car with your Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County airport employees. I’ll still be using National but hope things improve.

I recently rented a premium SUV from the National at the Detroit airport with my family. Being an Executive member I was hoping to pick our car quickly and go. However, we had to wait outside for 10-15 minutes before the car was brought from the back. Additionally the car hadnt been washed so that added another delay as they took it back to clean the exterior twice. But overall we enjoyed the premium vehicle but the timeliness of the service could have been better.

Everything was great about the rental. What I really like the most was the bus ride back to the airport. The bus driver really went out of his way to make the bus ride enjoyable! His name was the The Candy Man. Meeting people like him just makes your whole day better!

The rental was wonderful experience. The car was clean and shiny new. The Kia vehicle was compatible with Android operating system that made my travel easy in a new area..I was un happy about the $175.00 charges for adding another day to my original rental agreement.Everything else -great

I rented at 2021 Chevy Colorado with 800 miles on it. I was on a month-long trip for work. The truck was fantastic, the rental staff were friendly and helpful. All in all this was a great rental experience.

I have to say I love National Car Rental I get to pick my own car and get to drive lots of different types of cars. Usually the staff is pretty nice and Emerald Club is wonderful for getting in and out of the rental agency quickly. I will say with the current problem with availability of rental cars I was concerned when I showed up and all I saw were trucks and vans but then the staff pointed me to one of the last sedans. It was a Kia and it was really nice to drive.To talk a little bit about the Kia it had a I wont call it a self-driving mode but it was a mode where it had assisted steering I could never quite completely trust yet but it was fun to try out

My experience with National has been pretty good until the recent trip to DTW. I arrived around midnight and there was not a single decent car in the executive isle. So I took a Toyota Camry, which is not a horrible car but I have done so much better in the past. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the car until when I returned the vehicle. As I pulled in to return the vehicle, the lady informed me that I had a few dings on the roof of the car and asked me where it happened. I never paid attn to the roof of a vehicle in my years of renting vehicles. I have seen a ton of door dings in the past and I am sure I added a few while I was renting as well but dings on the roof??? My response to the lady at the return was I had NO IDEA there were dings on the roof and to be honest, I have never checked the roof of a rental car in until just now. Then she informed me that I SIGNED A PAPER stating there was NO DAMAGE on the vehicle at the time of rental. Really??? What happened to pick any car from the isle business??? I dont remember last time I signed anything when renting a car. So I informed her that I picked any car from the isle and drove off and didnt sign anything. Then she disappeared for a few minutes and came back and started the claim process. I asked if it was possible if those dings were there when I picked up the car and she said it was never reported and it is MY RESPONSIBILITY to pay for the repair. What a shady business and what a way to treat a long time customer. Then I received multiple emails from National on following few days about claims process and some other junk. I handed the claim over to my fleet insurance company to handle the case but I am beyond disappointed with National Car Rental. Please make sure to check every little details of the car you are renting to avoid junk like this.

Recently rented a Jeep Wrangler at DTW. We arrived to the pickup location and the vehicle was not ready. We waited about 15 min. for someone to pull up a car that was less than clean. The windows were filthy, the cup holders had food and spilled drinks all over them. The vehicle was never cleaned. We will never rent from National again. Their level of service and cleanliness do not exist anymore.Their way of fixing the issue was to simply issue a $15 credit to an already overpriced vehicle rental.

I arrived in Detroit Airport in the middle of a MONSOON. As an Emerald Club member, my car was waiting for me in a sheltered area. I did not have to wait on a line, did not have to walk into a building. I just loaded my family and out luggage into the car of the same size I had rented and off we went. The same deal when we returned to the airport. It was SIMPLE, convenient and exactly as arranged over the internet. The entire process was totally painless, like I as a dentist try to do for my patients!

The car I nabbed was a 2021 Nissan Armada. This was an extremely nice vehicle, fully loaded. As always, the checkout and return policy with National was perfect! I just cannot think of how they could possibly make renting a car any easier. I will never go elsewhere!

Vehicle was fine however when we arrived to national they were virtually no cars to choose from. Thankfully, one of the ladies there helped us find a suitable SUV located across the lot. I’m grateful for that. However, there seem to be no vehicle tag with the car keys and therefore received many calls asking when I plan to return the vehicle. I drop the car off three days earlier but national found the car was still out there being used. Not a great situation to be in for sure as a customer

DTW: Dirty cars, not so friendly staff (picking up), much better customer experience returning.On pickup FEW cars, most were dirty inside. Selected a 4 door jeep that was clean and not marked as premium, but denied the vehicle at check out and had to go pick another one.I realize that the industry is emerging from a crazy year but this is NOT customer service.

I really like the feature of selecting your vehicle in the emerald aisle and executive aisle at National Car Rental.The only issue I have is with the National Car location at the Detroit Airport (DTW) never has larger vehicles or nicer vehicles like the GMC Yukon or Cadillac to choose from even with my Executive Aisle status?There is no point of having a higher tier status if the National Car Rental location decides to only put low cost smaller vehicles in the Aisle.

This was my first time with National and the Emerald Isle experience and I LOVED IT!! When I arrived to the lot from the airport bus I was dropped right next to the cars for my selection of driving. I picked a car, got in and drove to the exit booth. When my trip ended I pulled into the return lot and was immediately greeted by National staff. They asked if I had any questions or concerns. Easiest time I have EVER had renting a car!

Cars were limited on this trip, which I understand due to covid. Also I felt like my car smelled of stale smoke even though smoking is not allowed in the cars.... Otherwise, love renting from National. They were quick getting us from the airport, we got our car quickly and got right on the road no problem. Same thing when dropping the car off. Got right out, they sent me an electronic receipt and we got directly on the bus to the airport. So much appreciated when you are trying to make your flight!

I Use national for my business travel. At the Executive elite you used to be able to drive some nice cars, but now you’ve even made wranglers and most pick ups an upgrade. And my last vacation there were only 5 cars on the entire lot to choose from. Definitely going to inquire with my company about changing to a different rental company. Not seeing any perks for spending thousands a year.

They accepted my card payment but when I arrived to pick up vehicle 15 miles from home they didnt accept my debit/credit card that they took the payment off of. They said I had to have a credit card not connected to my debit card or a bank account. They shouldnt accept payments for a vehicle then decide after they tied my reservation of $364.59 I cant get back until four days from today. I dont think this company even cares that it ruined my trip. My hotel was reserved and paid for as well that I cant get to until tomorrow because my local rental company wont have another vehicle until first thing...They wont ever be called again by me or anyone who ask me...

I had a great customer service experience. Although the lines were long, the wait wasnt. They moved as quickly as possible. Manager on duty jumped in when she saw the lines backing up. Other rentals tell you where to go to look for your vehicle, the associates here, actually walk you out the door and point out the location of your vehicle to you.

The car had a strong cigarette smell and caused me to have asthma attack. I had a mask on and did not notice the smell until I was home. I had a deadline to meet with customer and had to drive 1400 miles with windows down and feeling very sick.

Being an emerald club member I thought this would have been an easy process, and I was wrong. Upon arriving to the emerald club lot there was no Premium elite SUV that I had booked on my reservation, so I had to walk to the front desk (with a 2 year old and in 90 degree weather) to pick up my reservation. At the reservation desk the desk clerk took my ID and reservation and told me what I already know and sent me back to the emerald club lot to pick up my car after I told them I was already there. I walked back with my 2 year old and was told a white range rover was being cleaned. I waited almost 30 minutes and the vehicle was gone to someone else. I went to another desk clerk who helped me out, With no premium elite vehicles left I was given a dodge Durango (had to pay extra) and was give 2 car seats which looked like they were taken out of another vehicle and given to me without being cleaned. I had to clean them myself. After all this I have given JUST a $75 credit, which I took because I did not want to waste anymore time with a cranky 2 year old in 90 degree weather.

Usually I have a good experience with National. However, not this time. The vehicle had not even been cleaned. There were still leftover clothing tags and food bits left everywhere. The vehicle rode extremely harsh and after further inspection I discovered that all of the tires were overinflated by 15 pounds. There was a rattle coming from under the vehicle that drove us crazy on our cross country trip. When I advised of the issues, I was told I would be contacted by a national representative. Nobody ever contacted me. I guess they dont care.

I have been a Emerald Club member for many years and have never experienced a twenty five minute wait for a shuttle to pick me up from the airport to the rental car location. Only to witness no cars were immediately available. Had to wait a few minutes to have cars from returns. Hopefully, this was just an anomaly.

My experience with the vehicle and the customer service was great. However, I left my phone in the car when I dropped it off. When I returned an hour and a half later it was nowhere to be found. They said they did not find it when they cleaned the car and that’s it was already rented back out. When I used my locator it showed still being at the Alamo/National rental facility at DTW. I had to go out and buy a new phone as a result. I am very unhappy that it was not returned to me.

The DTW location is usually filled with friendly staff and a good selection of vehicles in the emerald aisle. Theres only been one time the executive aisle did not have much of a selection in the times Ive rented from there.The one thing that is never good is that the vehicles dont seem to be getting cleaned very well on the inside. Almost every rental Ive had from this location always has crumbs or wrappers left in it from the previous renter. The windows are also usually never cleaned, especially the inside which makes it tough to see out of. Ive usually just cleaned the windows myself because its not worth the hassle of driving back to swap out cars for another one that is likely in the same condition.Overall, good experience and usually a nice selection of vehicles. I just wish they took the time to clean the vehicles better.

The only lack was a manual for the car, especially as we had no luck linking the map on our phone to the display on the dashboard while still able to connect the phone audio for music. The process of picking up and dropping off was easy. However, we were disappointed with the car and was told we could not get another one as all cars were rented. Our rental desperately needed new wiper blades, the carpet was very worn and no floor mats, the front window was dirty. I wiped down the door handles and steering wheel with the wipes i brought because of covid and it was apparent the car had not been cleaned inside.

Picked up the car in Detroit. Issue with license and ID not being returned. Old car poorly maintained. Left without paperwork and contacted repeatedly 1800 number speaking to several ‘customer representatives’ asking for rental car agreement and never received. Service: 0 out of 10. Car: 3 out of 10. Dropping off: much better experience with a 10 out of 10.

They actually had a car available at the reserved time, which puts National way ahead of my last experience at Hertz. However, I was 2 hours over the daily deadline and they charged me for an entire extra days rental. The person checking me brought it to MY attention and said he would have it fixed. However, after missing several shuttles to the terminal, his boss wouldnt fix it. I wasnt expecting anything, but if youre going to bring it up and commit to fixing the problem, you need to follow-through.

Picked up a car at National at the San Francisco airport. I’m an Emerald Club Executive Member so I pick off the Emerald Isle. I grabbed a Honda Accord (unfortunately the largest they had!) that smelled like someone had just smoked pot in it. Had to keep it because my stuff wouldn’t fit in the smaller ones. Then, when I drove off, noticed it had over 44,000 miles on it!! If this is what club members drive, I’d hate to see what others get!!

Just a drop from the normal service Ive come to expect. Flight was delayed due to weather and the Shuttle driver gave us attitude because he didnt see any pickups at the time we arrived. Because we were late arriving. Once there the lot was understaffed and took a long time to process our reservations. After finally receiving my car, it took almost 30 minutes to get out the single gate that was open. I understand the workers struggling to keep up with limited help, I dont understand why staffing was so short. Made a long delayed trip even longer.

I guess we should be thankful for being able to rent a car at a reasonable price. However, the only vehicle available was a dirty inside and smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. Although the car was a 2020, it already had 40K miles on it and seemed pretty beat up. With that being said, we had no problems with it aside from the smell.

So while rushing to catch a plane, I realized I left my credit card portfolio inside the vehicle I turned on. Did not notice until I got the the gate for my plane. I hurried and called national and told them what had happened. They immediately notified the airport branch and I got a call when my plane was about to push from the gate. They found it! I was so relieved they were that honest to return it to me untouched. Later that evening, I got another call advising me on how to ship it to my residence in Texas which I had it overnighted for the next day. Usually a quick in and quick out. Flawless...However, the Metro Detroit airport location I guess is in transition with Enterprise. A poorly setup Enterprise drape/curtain to cover the National marquee. Then we were told it is not the National counter at all and we needed to go to the Alamo counter. Like I said, very confusing at Metro Detroit airport location.Otherwise, when we finally did get the car, it was an easy choice and great customer service in the exit lane.

I feel like my rental was way overpriced. It seems these rental companies are taking advantage of people in their time of need during COVID-19. I rent cars on a normal basis and the prices have more than doubled since COVID-19. In addition to that I was charged almost $70 an hour for each hour I was late when returning my vehicle. This should be in big bold writing somewhere. On a good note the rental process was seamless and and the customer service agents were excellent. I just feel like I was taken advantage of with the new rental rates.

Have rented a lot of vehicles for work over the last five years with National. First time I ever had to leave a security deposit ($400) in case it was damaged or returned excessively dirty. Car I selected wasnt as clean as usual and had a few damaged parts so was concerned enough to vacuum before returning. Turn in was easy but took pics of inside and odometer / fuel tank.

Actually I went in to rent a car from Enterprise which is in the same building... I was 1500 miles from home and had a rental scheduled from across the street at Hertz but I did not have a true credit card and I did not know I needed one .. so I walked with my luggage for what amount to be a half a mile...and since I was a past customer I was In their computer.... They also saw me coming and I ended up having to pay double what I normally would for a rental near my house... There where no full size cars available in the emerald isle, only compact. The Nisan Versa being one of the larger available, yet I was charged for a full size car.

The rental experience was okay. The bus ride from macnamara terminal was pleasant, the bus driver was friendly and helpful. I was disappointed with the service once at the desk to pick up my rental. It was confusing, we rode the national bus but ended up renting through the Alamo desk. The car booster seats werent ready although they were on the reservation. The car selection was not great, a Kia or a Carolla were my only options. I usually have the pick of the row with national.

As usual, National has provided easy access to choose my vehicle, which is my number one concern when renting a vehicle. I can choose based on my needs and preference for my trip. Every car was clean and on the seat I found an extra packet of disinfectant to ensure I felt absolutely safe with my choice, given the times. It really couldnt be any easier and thats why I trust National

We had just dropped off our rental, got to the check bag area when I realized I had left my wallet in the rental! I tried calling Alamo but they wanted me to fill out forms, etc. That would take way too long, my flight was leaving in the next hour and half. I decided to take a chance and get back on the shuttle, my husband and children went on ahead to security.I was the only one on the shuttle after waiting awhile so I asked the driver if we could get going, I told him my story and after a minute more he left. Then my husband called and said that TSA would let me through after questioning me and looking into it but it could take awhile. I asked the driver if we could turn around. He confidently said we should be able to find it quicker.At Alamo he took me to the drop off cars were, helped me find the car I described, but it wasnt there, so after giving him a description of my wallet he went into the office to lost and found. He came back holding it up and I about cried! It was a miracle! He told me hed drive me back. I made it back and through TSA just in time with 20 minutes to spare! My kids had been so scared and anxious. This driver saved me! There are angels among us and this one had the name Jerome. I believe...I was so stressed out I hope thats his name! Please give him a raise!!! And all he responded when I kept thanking him was its what we do.
