Customer service was unbelievable. The management team helped us with all our problems and answered all our questions promptly.Definitely a great place to call home. It’s quiet, work orders get taken care of quickly and very well, and all the other tenants are friendly.
A great place to live in the downtown area! Direct sky-walk access, great nearby restaurants, and friendly people. The apartments are roomy and clean and the patio area is large and has plenty of comfortable seating. On staff maintenance is friendly and always willing to help out. Indoor parking on the ground level is very convenient.Overall, would recommend you check it out!
I love living here. Easily my favorite apartment I have lived in. Everyone I have met has been very kind and I adore my studio. The balcony is a big plus as is the washer and drier in the closet. I also appreciate the indoor garage, storage, and common room. Highly recommend!
I have lived at the Maxwell since the beginning of the year, and I have enjoyed it immensely. The complex is clean, new, and comfortable. The apartment manager is friendly as well as professional. The most important thing to me about living here is that I feel safe. The bonus about living here is that there is direct access to the skywalk, AND there are several good restaurants within walking distance. I am very happy with my pick!
After previously leaving a five star review (in part due to the fact they ran a promotion to leave one), it is necessary to come back and update the rest of the experience had with Maxwell. Specifically the move out process as they will go back on their word of hanging pictures and charge you for any punctures made as well as any clean up that would be made with a routine cleaning service at the end of the lease.A fine place to live but beware as you will more than likely be nickel and dime’d out of some of your deposit come lease end.
I moved to Des Moines from out of town and Maxwell instantly became home. The Maxwell employees security, maintenance crew, and leasing office staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. The apartment itself was in tiptop shape and clean when I moved in and the common areas are always pristine! I absolutely love living at Maxwell. My only complaints are there isnt a work out room and the noise from the road gets a little loud during high traffic times.
I have stayed here for over a year, Maxwell has beautiful interiors, neighbors are friendly, the location is great and skywalk access is the biggest perk especially in winters.
I have lived at the Maxwell apartments for about 15 months now. Unfortunately, I am moving and changing lifestyles, but I have to say, I am truly going to miss this place. I have had such a great experience at the Maxwell and love the views it has provided. There is easy access to the skywalk, court ave, the sculpture park, and many places to eat. Also, the deck and patio are amazing. I really appreciated the security of the building and the key fobs. I think that the fobs were easy to use and a great add for living downtown. The garage door can be a little difficult sometimes, but they have adjusted it so it is not quite as bad. Also, if you have pets there are doggy clean up areas around the blocks and out front, however, there is limited access to grass unless you walk a few blocks.I thought the Maxwell was pretty reasonably priced compared to many places (that were not income restricted) downtown. For the amount of things offered, I felt like I got a great deal. There is limited parking if the garage is full. However, there are two ramps that are accessible and the Wells Fargo one is free on the weekends. When living downtown you will always have loud noises, I became use to it, however many people who stayed complained. Also, I was on the corner of the building and had large windows, which tended to leak more than I thought they should for being brand new. This drove my energy bill up. I have heard people say they can hear people through the walls, fortunately for me, I had a hallway and bathroom between my bedroom/living area (studio apartment). The only problem I had with the apartment was in the summer, the water from the air conditioning wasnt ventilating very well in the closet, which created a musty smell in my apartment. They did try to handle it the best they could, but that design could have been fixed. They also said that the outside box would be able to dial your phone number to open the door if they entered in your apartment number, they never followed through with this. This made it hard when people came over, because I was always going downstairs to let them in.Overall, if I wasnt changing lifestyles, I would have stayed. They always keep it clean and are easy to get into contact with via email. The maintenance guy is very respect and kind! I hope you considering moving to the Maxwell.
There are nicer places to live in Des Moines but Id give this affordable, central location a try. One of the major bonuses is that all rooms have their own washer/dryer.
I called them about 2.5 weeks ago to schedule a viewing. The receptionist was not that pleasant but whatever... everyone has their days. I didnt hear back at all and followed up late this week. I was asked for all of my details again. While I have no problem giving it to them again and going over the process from the beginning, wouldnt you have controls in place to avoid duplicate and / or locate records? I was interested in leasing an apartment from them. However, looking at the immensely sub-par timeliness and responsiveness for someone simply looking to view the apartments makes me wonder how it will be if I actually move in. Based on first impressions (which matter a lot), I am scrapping Maxwell off of my list of potential apartments.
Filled out their online form last Thursday, got tired of waiting and called on Tuesday with the intent to view the apartments and ask some questions; all in all, its been a week, Ive made two attempts and there has been no call back, no email. From the reviews, it appears this is how Hubbell Realty has chosen to handle their business.
Looks great at first but is a total mess. Management doesn’t respond to emails when there are problems, the one maintenance person is very unpleasant to deal with, building is falling apart even though it’s new, not built to last, was thrown up quickly and you can tell...bathtub cracked after a few months, windows leak, ventilation and insulation issues, NO soundproofing between apartments makes for no privacy and major issues (you can hear a bedtime story being read and pressing buttons on a microwave next door through the wall), the residents are nice but leave the common areas very messy and there’s no one around to pick up their trash so other residents are cleaning up after them or the areas just stay a mess, there’s a fire alarm in the lobby that goes off constantly and no one turns it off, sometimes the fire department comes but the problem persists, the parking garage is overbooked so people are parking in the aisles and blocking traffic, the mail system is a joke, they set up a package delivery system and the carriers refuse to use it because there is no management on site for when things go wrong and several people have had packages disappear. Many residents have left before their lease ends and everyone I know won’t be renewing their lease. Extremely disappointing experience. PS- last week maintenance entered the apartment while I was showering for a routine inspection. Is it not common sense to return later if someone is in the shower? You have five floors of apartments to inspect, there’s no rush, it was violating and invasive. Another routine inspection this morning where maintenance was extremely rude and inappropriate and harassing. Cannot recommend this building at all and would strongly suggest you look elsewhere.
