My favorite staff to work with is miss Shelia Peer Navigator, Cassie Manager, Tru and Diane in kitchen...they all did wonders for me. This is a place where you can get help. This is a homeless shelter for men, women and families located in lower downtown Denver. Itis kept relatively clean and quiet. This shelter provides a hot breakfast and dinner to those who are signed in to stay the night. Most of the staff is very nice but there are some who are perpetually in a bad mood. Men and women are separated and do not share eating or sleeping areas.

Staff, rules, meals, procedures and pretty much everything is handled inconsistently. The Smith road overflow is great in an emergency as always has room, but drama abounds and staff is very inconsistent in handling it. Some staff are very rude and unprofessional at both locations. Meal quality varies greatly but dinners are usually decent (although even the times served are never the same... breakfast from 5:45 to 6:30 and dinner from 4:45 to 5:30 so you may have a long wait or miss it all together). Its great in an emergency but not as a long term solution. One grows tired of being treated like a number or livestock.

The politics on the family floor is impossible to overcome. My family was there for 3 months and they constantly change rules, dont communicate, write you up for everything, and basically set you up to fail. At first I thought the place was wonderful. After my first week, I wasnt so sure. By my 3rd week I felt like we were in a prison and by the time we left, we couldnt take it anymore. Staff tells you its OK to do something, then you get written up because apparently it WASNT OK to do it. The elevator is always broken with no provision for those in wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes. The boilers are always going out so having heat and hot water is very hit or miss. When the boiler is actually working, the hot water scalds you and you cant adjust the temperature because theres no cold water coming into the shower! The women are so nasty. At any given time the toilets and walls have poo or blood on them, people dont flush, they dont make their kids flush, hands dont get washed, and moms actually pee with the stall doors open!! Its just way too much there. I suppose they do try, but its hard to really notice. You arent allowed to speak your mind or air your frustration AT ALL or else you get written up. They police you like youre a child or criminal. Its ridiculous. The food is bland, repetitive, and extremely unhealthy. It really feels like a minimum security prison.

The Director is pitiful. I mean when Bob Davis was the Director back in 2012 this place was intact and a blessing. The new staff is in it for a check trust me I know they are Especially the new Director you can tell how fake she is Ive only seen the woman 2 times out of 4 months of living there, so that was a red flag from jump. The case managers are dumb as a bat they dont even take time to research resources for you. When I say these people are a Joke yea they are just that. Im contacting Fox News for an investigation because I was here at one time and the program worked. This new staff ie; The new Director she needs to be fired. The woman is useless. Case Management is a Joke. Prisoners need to know whats going on. The director is getting paid a very high salary. Im going to go out of my way to get her removed from Samaritan House. Samaritan was so much better before she came along with her high price shoes and clothes looking down on others. Hell if it wasnt for the homeless she wouldnt have squat. I dont like her, she and the case managers are all fakes. Darn shame. The place is so filthy now and so much more. The mens showers need shower curtains very bad. Its a mess in that place. Fire the director she doesnt know what she is doing. She is a threat to this type of individuals. She has no clue.

Im doing the best Ive done in a very long time and I finally have that one thing back that I had lost along the way...HOPE! Thank you Catholic Charities and thank you Sam House, you guys are life savers and I couldnt have come this far without your help! Oh yeah, to those with negative comments, you have to want to change for the better and change isnt always easy, change means following certain rules and abiding by a certain structure designed to help you make a positive change. Its not always easy here, but if you want a better life you do what it takes to get there and dont bite the hand held out to you in help!

Update: BED BUGS! this place is not very catholic. Some of the staff tend to give attitude to those who are responsible and trying to get out of the situation. Dont expect them to help you. The volunteers are homeless themselves. No one had a clue how anything works. Their lottery program is 4 months long. So instead of you getting up and out quickly, they want you to hang around for 4 months. This place is a joke at best. Ran by a bunch of so called babysitters. They perpetuate the homeless issue rather than resolve it and then have the nerve to put Jesus loves you on a white board like thats going to help.It provides a place to sleep at night. You have to sign up for a bed every day. They serve breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is usually small (ex: a pancake and an egg). They allow trans at least in the womens shelter but I dont agree with that practice. I filled out a sheet for housing opportunity but have yet to hear from anyone about an update. Dinner isnt too bad. Most women are drug/alcohol addicted and arent trying. The staff do not Care about changing the situation. Showers arent offered at the shelter nor laundry services. Remember, it is a shelter so women tend to get upset, withdrawal, cause fights/arguments early in the morning or late at night. Expect to be woken up constantly by tweakers, etc who cough a lot all the time and dont cover their mouths. Wake up time is around 4:45/5 am. I work a full time job and dont expect these guys to provide any resources for transitioning out of homelessness.

It is a good place that does well helping people more than other places. They are not as awful as some places. They have many programs that help a few people with housing and things. The only complaint is that they do not provide showers for the women and they should and they should help them with employment or anything they dont understand or know about in the area. The shelter makes them all sleep in a basement type of place when they have a huge building maybe they should let them stay in other rooms they are not children. Not be treated like slaves or something. They should provide shelter for all the people in Denver when it is cold some are still on the streets sleeping on cold nights that is not ok many are not even addicts or anything they just dont know how to make it. They should let everyone in the shelters when its cold so they dont freeze to death.

Staff didnt seem very interested in actually helping people... More like they wanted to push them through. My 2 month old and I were forced to leave during the day even when it was too cold for him and me. I was still healing from a c section and was forced to cary my son up 3 flights of stairs for almost a week when the elevator went out... nobody helped. A 13 year old girl threatened me and nobody did anything. Not like I can defend myself against a 13 year old, I would go to jail. Felt like there was a lot of staff there who just didnt care. They did go all out for people for Christmas. Im very grateful for that, however, it didnt make up for how we were treated.

This organization is not run by Catholic people. It is ran by people who hate you the moment you walk in the door. The case workers are very quick to accuse you of being something you arent. If you make one mistake you are kicked out and your appeal is denied at 930 am and you have to call them to find out about it being approved or denied. And you would think they will give you a number to call. Be careful about the blonde case worker she is the biggest accuser and will Love to play word games with you all the time. They get paid by the government for the amount of families they help in a year. Prisoners have more rights then a person who is kind hearted and has repeatedly gone out of the way to be nice to a nazi loving case worker. The rats roam freely through the whole building and you eat expired moldy food. And you are constantly sick. They should shut this place down.

This place is a cesspool.Staff treats you like you are a child. You are constantly reprimanded for trying to become self-sufficient. They kick you out for for not doing chores even if you have valid reasons such as interviews or DHS appointments. I admit I am a weed smoker and I was upfront about that upon winning the so called lottery, but to tell me youre going to retest me again after 30 days is ridiculous. What does that have to do with anything if I have held very successful jobs in the past. Just down on my luck at the moment. I hated this place from the moment I entered the program, and left quickly after only 2 weeks. I would not recommend anyone live here. Staff curses you out and men enter the womens dorm like its their right. Everyone working in the kitchen has a cold and coughing over everything. It might as well be a breeding ground for germs, TB, and lets not forget the beg bugs. And they do bite and are promptly on the premises to welcome you. This place should be condemned and a biohazard team needs to come in a do a full sweep fro get rid if the infestations of staff and germs and God knows what else. Do not stay here if you value your integrity and privacy because here you will have none. should be called Hell house.

Not good, use to have privacy issues. Does not seperate clients by gender identity. I stayed here before 2012 and was forced to stay in Mens emergency shelter or is extreamly dangerous and threatening for Transgender people. They are marriage focused and will not recognize couples. After making promises of my partner and her child to come back too the family floor. They instead told the hospital we had lost our beds because we were a non traditional family and sent us notice she was kicked out for not returning and having a gifted cell phone listed as not declared income. They also told me her partner that she was hysterical Im guessing because she is a woman. They thought she was faking Labor. She had Her child and I Was her birthing partner that next day. We begged for her to be readmited to the family floor with the help of a social worker from the st Josephs birth center. We were instead denied emergency shelter and reported for negligence and her daughter was take into state custody. I feel because of the Harassment the staff treated us with for being a noticeable couple. We were thrown into the street like trash because we were a LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈 a Transgender lead blended family. I feel sorry for anyone of my community that has to stay here as a last resort. It is a sexist sexually toxic harassment environment. They dont serve all people.
