My dog recently passed, and I went here looking for a new companion that I could give lots of love to. I saw this little guy on the website and couldnt wait to meet him! I went right when they opened the next day, and the process was really easy and the employee I worked with was very thorough in providing me with everything I needed to support my new furry friend. Would definitely recommend this place if youre looking for an addition to your family.
We adopted owlet in May, we have had her for 4 months now, when we adopted her she wasnt really used to us yet, she didnt know who we were, but when we took her home, she was really good! such a good girl, she wasnt mean, she was trained well. This is her now, she finally have opened up to us, she loves to go to the park next to our apartment complex and just run around! shes so friendly to other dogs, and that relieves me a lot, specially people too!
We just had to put euthanize our dog today. She was very old and had got very sick in the last very days. A friend from work suggested this place and I for one am very glad he did. They were very considering and the place was very clean and the staff were very warm and loving to MIsty (our Dog of 17 years.) And the cost were very manageable. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place if you are in the same position. The staff even brought her in to us 1 last time to say goodbye. We love you Misty Girl. and we are going to miss you :(
We love our new baby! Thank you so much to Ammad for helping us with the adoption process!!! He was kind, professional, and very helpful! There were a lot of people there on the weekend and he was able to assist many people at once in a very timely manner, above and beyond!!! We love our new kitty Mercury, hes so sweet and were so glad to give him a happy furever home.
We adopted our kitten a little over 2 weeks ago, and on august 2, 2021 she passed away in her sleep unexpectedly. While initially the pain of losing our new friend was unbearable, and I have a few stern thoughts about the adoption process and the health of their animals, overall the dumb friends league made it their top priority to reach out and let us know that it wasn’t our fault and asked if there was anything else they could do to ease our minds, as well as inquiring if there were things they could do to improve in the future. That alone was more than one can ask for when they lose their animal. They offered us a full refund as well as waiving her cremation cost. We are still hurting, but the dumb friends league has done everything in their power to help ease our pain.
Adopted my Kitty there. Super clean environment and great people that work there. I know they are mostly volunteers, thank you! Highly recommend adopting from DDFL!
Dropped off a cat we found roaming our neighborhood for a few days. They took him in, and must have found a home for him, because I have not seen him on their website!! Great people doing great things!
This was a sad time for our family, we were on our way there to euthanize our dog, Doug, 13 yrs old and was suffering of old age. Doug didnt survive the trip & DF league staff were very compassionate & understanding and took care of our deceased dog. I donated the money that I had for euthanasia. Im so grateful for this place for their act of compassion on behalf of our dog & my family! Thank you!
My sweet guy Gaffer came from DDFL. Hes been home for 6 days. He is the best cat ever. DDFL were very upfront with me about his medical concerns moving forward. A volunteer brought him out to my car and loaded him for me.For an adoption to be this perfect sight unseen is a miracle. DDFL facilities miracles.
We just adopted our new family member Cinnamon about a little over a week ago. Shes a two year old husky mix, we renamed her Akeela, shes very smart, and loving her new home and family. She fits right in here, and gets along great with her older yorkie brother Dash. We had lots of questions and concerns on who would be the best match for us, being our first time adopting. If it wasnt for the time and patience spent with us answering all the questions we had, I dont think we would have found such a wonder dog.
77 years of age and wanted a companion but needed him to be good with grandkids Purchased on a Friday and on Sunday he attacked another dog causing injury to both as well as myself. Now have medical bills for all doctors and medications. On social security so unable to pay the bills. Dumb friends refused to help in any way. They never said he would go after other animals. Basically said that is part of owning a pet. I disagree. The response was amazing. They made things right which is appreciated and shows they care. Tha k you
This shelter steals peoples pets. I am not joking. A neighbors dog was missing, she searched everywhere, posted everywhere and someone found her dog, dropped it off at DDFL and they proceeded to lie to the owner that they did not have her dog! They never posted the pic online, lied over the phone that they did not have the dog, refused to scan for a microchip and adopted her dog to a new family. DDFL only admitted finally they had her dog when she gave proof of the person who found the dog. But it was too late, they have been awful. I will do everything I can to help this poor woman get her dog back even if it is through the courts.
I was in last Sunday to adopt a cat. The staff was extremely friendly and so helpful. I adopted a 3 yr old big boy they called Kyoto. He was extremely frightened and stressed, so I was not sure what he would be like later. The info said he should go to a quiet home as the only pet. Also he needed patient owners who would give him quite a bit of time to adjust. He hid the first evening but when I got up during the night he followed me around meowing for me to pet him. He seems extremely happy and content in my quiet senior home and has turned out to be a real little or should I say big, lover boy. I am so glad they let me adopt him.
I came to the Dumb Friends League to adopt a cat during their name your own price event. As soon as I walked in the building I was cheerfully greeted! My thoughts were to get two because of the work that I do which keeps me out sometimes until 7-8 pm. They were able to find me a young pair that are siblings and wanted to adopt them out together. I fell in love with them at first sight. In all I was there for an hour and a half. Great staff that absolutely care about the animals in their care. I would recommend this place to any one who is looking to add a new family member!
In my 3 experiences here I have found this company hires the most rude and unsympathetic people - I guess it makes sense if they decided to work with animals.Still- be on guard that the staff is not out to make your experience better, they are their for their job and hopefully the animals. I am writing this after paying money to try volunteering- the company/staff was unhelpful and again unsympathetic in the situation. Best of luck 🐕
We adopted our kitten from the Dumb Friends League. It is a wonderful place to adopt a pet. All the volunteers are friendly. Our 8 week old kitten has been very healthy and was spayed. Would highly recommend adopting from this shelter!
So lets start with all the great things going on at this adoption center, social distancing, temperature checks, hand sanitizing, limited people in, cleaning. Oh my goodness I was there less than an hour and I watched them clean not only the floors twice, but every contact surface as well. They where very friendly and helpful, while they are currently not doing the meet and greets with other animals unless there is a need. They made an exception for us so that our service dog could meet the new puppy we adopted and that makes a huge difference for us. Everyone of the staff was friendly and able to answer my questions when I had a few. 6 hours of walking and dog park got this guy sleeping hard. Just a reminder that everyone that adopts an animal out they need extra love and care to make them feel at home. I took the literal extra steps to make sure this one could feel the love. Thank you to everyone at the DDFL.Update: we changed his name from saban to sabian as he seems to respond better to it. And after 3 days I am proud to show off both Max(right) and Sabian(left) are sleeping well together. And are enjoying all the extra loving.
Adopted a cat today with my wife and they have a great selection of kittens and cats. They let you pick a few and you get to spend a little time with them. It was a great experience and we were very happy with our choice
Very clean and doesnt smell like other animal shelters staff is very helpful and kind
This is a wonderful agency. They help so many animals in so many ways!! We adopted a kitten from them about two years ago. The volunteer was amazing. His name slips my mind. He was an elderly gentleman, slender build and very intuitive and kind. After spending a short time with us checking out a few cats, he said he knew the perfect cat for us. He brought out a gray tabby kitten about 3 ish months old. The kitten purred for the three hours we were there. Then today on a different kind of intervention, I took my 16 year old cat who was terminally ill and suffering terribly over the weekend to Dumb friends Vet. I made the appt on line last evening for this morning. They were so kind and gentle as they took him away to Cross the 🌈 Bridge. Wan and I think Ellie took care of me and him with compassion. I am thankful my cat is no longer suffering. Thanks to Dumb Friends for providing this inexpensive, compassionate service for those animals who no longer have any quality of life.
So many sweet and lovey cats in the cat pavilion right now (8/5)! The animals are so well cared and the staff and volunteers are extra friendly and helpful. The facility is always clean.
One of the nicest animal shelter buildings I have ever seen. The employees seem to truly love caring for animals.
The staff was super nice, very knowledgeable about how to serve the community and making sure the pet youre interested in adopting, is a perfect fit for you and your family. They provided full disclosure. They sincerely care about the animals in their shelter and the adoption fees are reasonable. Other shelters I contacted wanted over $400! The high cost of the fees prevented me from adopting. DDFL makes the entire process easy and low cost.
I always like to support people who take care of animals its a hard job and usually a thankless one well at least not a human thankful one when we win we were looking for a cat just a Tom to replace a member of the family that had passed on and they were super supportive and helpful talk to about everything. Wonderful staff the one problem I have is the hours are a little wonky
The staff was so kind and helpful getting my daughters bearded dragon back. He was well cared for!
I had to let go of my best friend Tpol. She was 19 this month and I adopted her 17 years ago... She was ready to go even if I wasnt ready for her to go and on presidents day. I wouldnt go anywhere else to adopt or say goodbye. Best experience you can have either side of life. Just go get a friend and give everything you have to do the best you can for her/him and you will get more than you know. Give and get more... Better than a lottery ticket
Had to euthanize my 13 year old German shepherd here today. The staff was so caring and understanding, it really helped. We really felt like we could trust the staff, you could feel their love for animals.
Great set up....brought two home.💙💜
I came in with an appointment, got there 15 minutes early, yet wasnt seen for an hour after my appointment time. Then upon explaining my home and background in animal behavior and training the counselor became rude and short. Then the counselor didnt explain the answer to a question I had very well so they pulled in a behavior specialist, who came in extremely condescending and mean. Talking down to potential adopters is not a good look. Then the first chance she got the same specialist went out of her way to condescend about my current dogs separation anxiety (due to him being a pandemic puppy and we have been working on it now that things are opening up) as if that was proving some weird point of hers. All I had asked was if dogs labeled as best with no other dogs can never be adopted to someone with dogs or if they would make exceptions for someone with a background like mine. The counselor could have just said no, once labeled we dont adopt out to homes with other dogs. Instead he said theres not normally wiggle room. Making it sound like there may be, so I asked to speak with the behavior specialist so I could hear more about the dogs situation. It was a herding bread, it is not abnormal for that breed to have issues in inexperienced homes so I figured if I could find out if it was that or legitimate aggression then that may tell if it she would be a possible fit or not. Instead of talking to me like an adult she came right out of the gates aggressively and kept calling me sweetie as if I was a child. Overall, it seems like they try hard and the animals are cared for. The reports are detailed which is great. However I wouldnt recommend going here if you dont want to wait around for hours past the appt just to be talked to like you have no idea what a dog even is.
Super impressed. My boyfriends dog was stolen and ended up here for about a month. Not only did they work with him on trying to figure out on getting him home, but worked with us on everything else as well. We ended up driving here from Washington state and ended up getting there within 10 minutes or so after they closed. We were ati able to pick up the dog to bring him home and they were generous enough to reduce the fee due to special circumstances. Upon our arrival we noticed that they had plenty of space to properly exercise the dogs, which is what they were doing. Everyone was nice, the dogs seemed insanely happy, and I cant believe how nice and understanding everyone was. They definitely lead by example.
This place is absolutely great! Highly recommend. Tons of animals to adopt. Friendly staff and well organized place. Tons of resources. Highly recommend.
Great place to visit but the simple adoption took pretty much all day, shouldve taken only 30 minutes
Very knowledgeable and loving staff. Always and ready for your new family member. Be sure to adopt youll wont regret it. I promise!
Love all the pups here wish I could give them all homes! They take good care of their animals more shelters should be like this!
The staff was amazing. Very helpful.on helping me choose the right cat. Selection was amazing
They was amazing when I took my Cat to have him cremated and there are amazing people out there. I had a lady who didnt know me and when she found out I didnt have the money she paid for me. God Bless the Lady and Denver Dumb Friends League for being there in my time of need. My Baby Chunks, may he R.I.P.
Poor Animals. This has to be the worst shelter I have ever been to. The remodel is nice and all, but the animals are still living in glass boxes FILLED WITH POOP AND URINE. The dogs are obviously not being walked everyday (same poop in some dog cages that was there from a separate visit my family made there last week). What frustrated me the most was the fact that there were several Volunteers and Staff just sitting around jaw jacking like it was not a big deal. Riverdale, Foothills, Aurora, are all better shelters in my opinion... (especially for dogs).
Thank you for reuniting our Onyx back home to us! I dont think people appreciate what the ddfl actually does for the community! Please if youre thinking of getting a pet come here. They vaccinated her, chipped her and took good care of our fat girl Onyx
I have adopted several animals over the last 20+ years, I have always found them to be incredibly helpful. My little guys have been wonderful pets!
Adopted 3 adorable rat pups. Frankfurt, Pinky and Victor. They were really well taken care of. The adoption process was thorough, but fairly quick! You can tell they really care about the well-being of the animals here!! Affordable adoption fees. We love the new members of our family 💓P.S. Make sure to join the Q before you come by. You can get in line on the DFL website. You have to wait in the parking lot to get called since they are only letting in a number of people at a time
The staff and volunteers are all super friendly and careful to make sure everyone is safe. Everyone wears masks and they do temperature checks.I was here Monday, to look at a dog I saw on the website. She was already gone, but I ended up meeting Marty and I fell in love. The ladies working there were great at telling me all about him, introducing him to my current dog and helping me understand him. I brought him home and hes so happy and fits right in!Marty is now Soot and hes a super good boy! Thank you DFL!
Amazing animal shelter set up! You can tell a lot of effort and love go into their care.
We got the most wonderful kitten here. The adoption process was great, but after was very discouraging. The little guy came to us with an upper respiratory infection, which we were told would be treated. We took him back to their vet twice, but were given no medication for the poor little guy. It got to the point where we ended up having to take him to the emergency vet and we ended up with a several hundred dollar vet bill, which could have been avoided had he been treated for the infection in the first place. I didnt feel they kept up with their promise of taking care of him past adoption for an illness he came to us with. There was no sense of urgency and he became very ill. Im very frustrated over the whole situation and out a lot of money I wasnt expecting to spend over the money I did expect to spend getting the little guy vaccinated and such. This little guy is an ESA for my autistic son, and that was made known from the beginning. My son got scared he was going to lose his ESA, and that was just not something we shouldve had to deal with. I wish this adoption process had gone much better. This little guy was immediately a part of our family, and I wish his health had been taken more seriously.
We lost one of our pets earlier this year and my husband had a hole in his heart of grief from losing her. We decided to look around and saw a puppy that was on the website. He looked again and it was gone. Needless to say, I made him check the next morning and he was still there. We went to visit and didnt wait long. The whole process may have been 45mins tops because we knew he was the one. My husband is over the moon with this new addition and babies him all the time!
Sadly, we had to put our loving friend of 16 years Bella dog down. They were so kind and accommodating. Helping to make the experience as peaceful as possible. I thank them for their kindness.
I got my BEST FRIEND, the staff really cared, you could tell, they care for the doggos and cattos. The staff were really helpful. I went there to donate food, But I couldnt resist. The best place to adopt any animal! I bet no shelter can beat this one! They were very helpful with socializing and why cats should not drink milk. Great Kitty And great Staff!!!!!
Very friendly staff we had recently got a pup the but sadly the new dog didnt get along with our previous dog so we had to take her back and made it very clear that she cant have another dog because of her aggression tord other dogs when in a building and just checked to see if she got adopted and read her bio and they didnt listen what so ever of what we had said when we took her back. doesnt see, like they take very good care of the dogs when brought back
I been searching for my lost pet, I went in to see if they had any pets who can possibly be my lost baby. We didn’t have any luck but a gentlemen and lady were kind and supportive! Thank you for having a compassionate staff!
They were great at finding out who the owner of my dog was. The only thing I didnt like was the layout of the building. I thought it was kind of odd, but if it works for then thats fine.
Not even worth 1 star, my wife set up a appointment and when we got there we werent greeted nor even acknowledged for a place that has compassion for animals doesnt really show it with how they handled us today. These people obviously dont know the difference between a walk-in and a appointment. Keeping the cat by the way.
We adopted 2 kittens here and we love them so much, the staff is awsome and that make sure you go home with a great companion.
I worked on the new addition. Great personnel. On a personal note my wife and I adopted a Dalmatian years ago. We had Alex for at least 13 years. They took good care of him. Great establishment.Thank you. Rod Cruz
I had such a great experience adopting from Dumb Friends! The cat i adopted had recently had extensive dental surgery prior to me adopting him, and they even had me bring him back for extra bloodwork due to an over medication issue. I am from Las Vegas where the city shelter does zero medical treatment on the animals except for shots and spay/neuter, so this was a pleasant surprise! I love my Hugo (formally Felix) more than anything. I feel so lucky that I got to adopt him!
Last Saturday I had to put my baby girl down after 18 years of her being part of my family. The Dumb Friends League was so helpful and compassionate in this really difficult time for my family. Today, 1 week later, I picked up her ashes and met nothing but empathy and compassion once again. Thank you for being in our community and doing what you do!Sincerely,Stephanie V
I really liked that it is clean & organized. Dislikes Couldnt get any help. There was a gentleman sitting at a desk, he was staring people down. I know I felt uncomfortable. Animals of course are Adorable 😍. I want to take them all home.
Thank-you for taking Hugo back into your shelter!! He’s a very sweet boy
I volunteered here for about four years when I lived in Denver. I can attest that every staff member at DFL has a great personal commitment to the animals in their care. Theyll go out of their way to match adopters with the best pet for them. Also, due to a large donor and volunteer base, they are able to provide lots of individual attention to LOTS of animals, in a very clean and modern facility. This includes an exceptional level of behavioral and medical care.As an example of the overall value of adopting from them: while at DFL, my senior cat had full-mouth tooth extractions, complete with bloodwork, meds, and post-op care. This--combined with his neuter, vaccines, and microchip, all of which DFL provides every animal before adoption--would have been a good few thousand dollars at a vet clinic. And, most importantly, I got to take home a kitty who was no longer suffering from a mouthful of rotten teeth!Though its inherently stressful for an animal to be in the shelter, any pet you adopt at DFL will have spent its time there receiving lots of positive human interaction, in a relatively animal-friendly space, getting excellent medical care. The staff are transparent about all behavior or medical problems that the shelter has noticed/worked on, so you know what the pets ongoing needs will be. DFL really does everything in their power to set adopters up for success.
Great place to visit, even just for a tour. Please help support them, adopt a pet!
There was plenty of ppl checking in and making sure we were helped they were super busy today and the wait was 5 hours so just keep in mind there is a pretty long wait so getting there early is best
I got a nice companion and the staff in the apartment really likes her too. I think Calypso and I are going to work out really great. She likes to reseal tackle me on the bed. She takes me for a walk when we go outside. Lots of energy. A councilor helps you find a good match. There are so many animals that need a loving home.
They care about your pets as much as you do. Great staff and super helpful.
I volunteer here and this is such Ana making place and all the hard work they do daily to care for all the animals is outstanding.
The adoption process itself (signing the papers & getting my pet) was pretty easy & I love my pets. I feel like the people working there could be more understanding that signing up for the adoption process listed online is confusing and many people didn’t understand it; I had a reservation so it wasn’t much of an issue for me - though I waited over 2 hours in the outside waiting area to receive my pet, of course I don’t particularly prefer it but in the end, I didn’t mind - but others waiting there were confused & you could tell the workers were getting annoyed explaining it over & over again, which is understandable. But when the sign says “go to such and such website.com” when you pull up, and you look up the website & it gives no direction outside of join a queue (that is full anyway) there’s gonna be questions from concerned potential adopters. Maybe editing the website & explaining the process a bit more simply would help, or having all the same info on the same page.
Got a new dog from them about a month and half ago to be a companion to my older dog. My older dog suffered a stroke 2 weeks ago and the people at the Dumb Friends League were really kind about putting her down. I appreciate there kindness and gentle manner in helping Emma pass along.
Love this place. I’ve adopted from them and volunteered for them before. Staff is friendly and helpful, and they truly care about their animals. They want to make sure animals go to the right homes and make sure potential adopters understand each animal’s unique needs before they sign any papers. So for example, when I was looking to adopt last year I looked at several dogs. They knew each dog and its behavior. So one that I was really interested in they told me that he’s a great dog, but he really likes to chew things to the point that it’s destructive. They make sure those looking to adopt are ok with each animal’s behavior and are aware of what they’re getting into instead of saying “great! Here ya go! See ya next week when you bring him back!” They really want to find forever homes for their animals.I’ve also gone to them for my dogs’ end of life services. I wish they’d let you go back with them when they do the deed. Aside from that though, they’re very respectful and understanding and give you time with your animal before they bring them back. They’re a wonderful agency and I love them.
Such a Beautiful, sweet staff and loving! Helpful every step of the way. I cant thank you enough for Shadow hes perfect fit for my family, God bless you and yours!!
Very disorganized! Went through cat adoption section ready to adopt cat they told us we had to wait in a que and they may or may not get to us today(drove and hour and a half to come and get a car, trying to be responsible and provide a home for a cat in need versus buying new). Several people around us also were ready to adopt but due to disorganization and overall apathy of the staff will go home with our providing a place for these animals in need.
My husband and I have adopted five animals from Dumb Friends over the years, most recently our third cat, Duncan, orig. Pettygrove. We are so glad DDFL connected us with all our furry friends and thankful for the care they received before we bought them home. Adoption folks are great to work with.
We adopted my forever soul dog from this adoption center. If I rated it any less than five stars it would be a crime. They do amazing things and paired me up with my best friend for life.
As natives of Denver my family has utilized DFL many times over the years. Recently they renovated the entire facility and it looks like an apartment building now, which is great for the dogs! However, do be aware that DFL now incorporates the QLess app as part of their adoption process and you only know this from their actual website—not from PetFinders or We Rescue where many DFL animals are advertised. Because of this, I had a truly heartbreaking experience that I want others to avoid.I had been trying for a while to find a 5lb dog for my aunt who has bad Osteoporosis and whose own dog had recently passed away. I had been down to DFL twice already—once, to browse for a cat myself, and second to see if an advertised dog was still available. Both times I was told by staff that the procedure was to write down the dog’s number listed on the kennel on an official card and bring it back to the adoption desk to get put in line to meet the animal. One morning we saw a wonderful 5lb dog there advertised on my We Rescue app do my aunt and I drove there arriving 20 minutes early. As soon as the doors opened I went back, wrote down the dog’s number and lo and behold, the woman right in front of me at the adoption desk was confirming her spot in line to see the same dog! The QLess app allowed her to be first in line without even having arrived at DFL yet and definitely AFTER us. Well, this woman adopted the dog, we were turned away and my aunt was in tears. Indeed, on the DFL website it advertises QLess as a way to get in line to see an animal before even darkening the door... beware of this! Found a dog at Foothills animal shelter instead—impressed by the fact they don’t use QLess.
Love this place, I think they take great care of homeless pets and are very good at helping them get placed in good homes. We just adopted a new cat and she fits in our family well, shes using her box and eating well, As well as getting adjusted to our dogs, which was a concern on her sheet, but we already love her, My daughter is super happy. Thank you for all that you do. ❤
