One of the most professional and and unknown barber/beauty salons in Columbus,Ga!!!
I have a mohawk with locs. I have a regular barber, but was in a pinch on yesterday. I decided to stop by PK due to convenience (way closer to my house) and let me just say, never again.Call me naive, but I honestly thought licensed barbers do their due diligence in staying abreast of societal hair preferences, learning how to care for and maintain them according to the natural demographic of their clientele, and perfecting their craft. If that concept was too complex lets keep it simple.... if somebody with locs sits in your chair..... do your thing, work your magic but please, DONT CUT THE DA*N LOC. Should be obvious, right? Nah.I met with Mr. Pernell on yesterday. The first thing i did was put my hair up and show him a picture of what I usually have done. All was well initially. I mean he took a lot longer than Im used to, but whos going to complain about thorough work? That was fine. When I asked for lines on either side (to emphasize the mohawk style), I felt him pulling my loose hair out as if he was trying to see where to cut it off. I said, no theres no need for that, just brush it back up because my loctition with put it where it needs to be next time I see her. He did, we laughed and moved on. Then I said, the barber I used to see would always get so close that a couple locs started thinning. I cant have that. By that time, another client of his came in, who also had locs. Of course that confirmed his ability in my mind, loose hair incident and all. At least I felt it and was able to clarify what I wanted in case he ran into more of that during my visit. And there were more, and instead of brushing them up like I said before, he cut... and cut.... and cut. I didnt realize HOW MUCH he cut until he let me pay, tip, and LEAVE. I walked out, took my hair down, put it back into my original style and got in the car, lord. As Im driving I feel a little extra wind throughout my scalp so I start examining. The first thing I feel is a chunk of hair root hanging onto its loc. Then another on the opposite side. Then another at the nape of my neck. The loc at the nape was completely tapered (I like my mohawk to come to a point in the back) with a lot less hair than I had before. I was devastated, to say the least. I immediately called and told him what I found. His first statement was, oh for real? Aw man. You want your money back or what can I do? I want my HAIR back, Mr. Pernell.... my hair. I asked him if he needed to see it and of course it was a quick no, uh uh, mm mmm. Maaaan I got my refund, sat in my car and cried. Theres no way he didnt see what he did when I walked out. No way. Im appalled. Thank God I have the loctition I do. Bless her for finding the time to squeeze me in because lord knows shes busy. I mean what if she wouldnt have been able to????!!!Moral: if you have locs and choose to use a new barber for whatever reason, dont assume they know ANYTHING about how them unless they have them. Hell I told him to be careful and still got chopped and screwed so, just be wary. Locs symbolize so much. We dont go through all the patience, stages, and maintenance (simple or complex) for nothing. That hurt my feelings. Barbers, please listen to your clients. Better yet, just dont accept those with locs if you arent capable of understanding the concept that they are not to be cut the eff off or into unless otherwise stated. Period. Two stars because he made me laugh a lot. Funny wont re-attach my locs, though.
I brought my son and I in for haircuts. Mr OJ was one of the best barbers Ive ever interacted with. My son has autism and he was extremely gentle and patient with my son and did a great job despite having to cut a moving target. He also did a great job on my hair and beard trim.
