Our personal experience with NAMI South Carolina, its programs and support groups, was a life-changer for our family. I dont want to think about where we might be if we hadnt taken Family-to-Family and participated in support groups during some extremely difficult times for our son and our family. Thank you for being there! I joined the staff about 15 years ago in an attempt to pay it forward. Now retired from NAMI South Carolina, I am working part-time locally with my area affiliate. The good work needs to continue for individuals and families that need the help and support!!
There have been ethical concerns told to many people about NAMI South Carolina and the University of South Carolina grant with blue cross blue shield of south carolina. The first concern is that NAMI South Carolina is going into schools under this grant and not getting consent from the parents of the children. This is a concern because it is a research study. Legally, you can not conduct a research study and collect identifying information. The second concern is that USC or Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina is not aware of everything that NAMI South Carolina is doing in the schools, If this is the case than their research study would be invalid. The third concern is that NAMI South Carolina has indicated to multiple people that they are creating Red/Pink flags for the USC/Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina evaluation forms. For example, if a student states they didnt sleep well it is considered a pink flag and soft hand off to guidance. This is especially concerning because they are creating problems for children that do not exist.USC or Blue Cross Blue Shield have an obligation to ensure a sound ethical research study is being conducted. That children are safe from being not falsely diagnosed by individuals who are not medical professionals capable of diagnosing mental illness.
Nothing but a front group for pill companies.Update: some mindless drone in the bowels of the local NAMI group commented on my review, giving their usual lines. Lets break this down:Nami offers support, education and advocacy for those with mental illness and their familiesLie #1: nami advocates for weakened patient rights, drugs as the only solution to mental illness, punitive laws forcing patients into torturous mental hospitals and was founded as a way for parents to escape blame for wounding their kids.we are not a front group for pill companiesAround 75 percent of namis donations are from pill companies, the same groups that used their NAMI puppets to try and argue against black box warnings on SSRIs when it was found they tended to make youth and certain patients suicidal.Id reach out, but all you worthless parasites do is lie.
