Spartan Academy is the premier BJJ school in Columbia. The instruction is very professional, family friendly, and validated. The classes can accommodate all levels from an excellent kids class (which I have both of my kids in) to the adult s class with top notch up to date instruction.

Advanced practitioners or beginners Spartan Academy is the only place you need for high level instruction (both jiujitsu and kick boxing) and large clean facilities. A wonderful family environment that me my wife and two children have been attending for years.

We love this place. The coach aka Professor and his family are top notch. The people who train here are A1 quality. Other families train there as a family. Clean staff, clean gym, fair amount of equipment to use for lifting and training BJJ and MMA. As someone who has never trained before, I am beyond fortunate to have been introduced to BJJ and grappling at Spartan Academy and be part of such a great team that pushes me daily. Proffessor SA is a WORLD CLASS competitor and a great teacher with the patience to help anybody regardless of skill level. There are excellent coaches and dozens of training partners at every skill level (lots of legitimate competitors) and I feel like spartan academy has all the tools required to teach anybody practical jujitsu to the highest level. From someone who is highly self-conscious and hates to sweat, the Muay Thai (kickboxing) classes at Spartan academy is helping me change my perception by a little every time. It has a collaborative learning atmosphere where every level of expertise is welcome to hone their skills with the help of the best instructors available in the area. The academy is a family of its own and it’s a pleasure to train there everyday.

I just took my first beginners bjj class and I was a great experience. I am very out of shape and I wanted to find something different. The staff was very professional and patient and didn’t make me feel bad for being so out of shape. I highly recommend anyone who wants to get in shape doing something different.

I participated in their grand opening today and took a class for the very first time and I got an amazing workout and had a lot of fun. Some of my sparing partners taught me moves with each round. I must do it again!

Hands down the best place for BJJ and MMA in SC. My son has been coming here for about a year and he absolutely loves it. Professor Guybson, aside from being a two-time BJJ world champion and by far the most talented coach around, is fantastic with kids. Excellent gym with brand new facility! Clean mats with state of the art equipment! Professor Guybson Sa is a world bjj and mma champion and is from a from a traditional bjj family who are now SAS bjj and have teams all across the country and internationally and have produced champions at every level in bjj and mma.

Not an MMA gym. A Muay Thai and BJJ gym. The classes are separated and there is no mixing of them. In BJJ you wear a Gi 3 of the 5 days of classes, and no MMA or striking is really incorporated. In kickboxing, you are taught to stand straight up in a square stance. This is not MMA. Its a good gym for learning these arts but not for MMA or anyone serious.Yes indeed this is a fake profile, it allows me to be completely honest without giving away personal details.If you go to a pizza shop and they sell you dough, pepperonis, cheese, and sauce all separately you would be outraged. The same concept is here. To say it is an MMA gym just because different classes are offered and that makes it mixing is just a joke. MMA is the combination of martial arts to have no style, but every style. This does not happen at this gym. If you go into a fight and your opponent is training at a gym every day under MMA, and they know how to deal with strikes on the ground and have a proper stance and awareness on the feet, and combine them, they will most likely best you. Im saying its not serious because MMA is a combination of styles and there is no combination at this gym. Just separate classes. Thats a very dangerous way to train if youre a fighter that wants to make it to the top.Obviously taking classes in Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai are great for self defense, Im speaking from a viewpoint of competition

Spartan Academy has changed my life. I came in about a year ago to start my free one week trial and I have been back just about every day since then. Professor Guybson Sa is a world champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelt, accomplished MMA fighter, and an excellent instructor. Everybody who attends this gym is super friendly and welcomed me with the most positive attitude. The cleanliness and professionalism of this place really jumped out at me when I came for the first time. Spartan Academy (SAS Team) is great place for children and adults to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Sa will take his time to teach them discipline, respect, and proper technique. One of the best decisions I ever made was to start training kickboxing and BJJ. I am in no position to evaluate what a BJJ school should and shouldn’t be, however when I moved to South Carolina and joined Spartan Academy Guybson and Juliana Sa were welcoming, inspiring, and motivational. I loved the fact that the school has not even been open a year but the participation and competition outcome is at a phenomenal level. The atmosphere is one of discipline but pleasing at the same time. Another plus in my eyes (as a white belt), was the fact that the school is not over-flowing with upper level belts that seem to “smash” me at other schools. At Spartan Academy the upper level belts do not submit me to the point of discouragement but work with me and fellow white belts to gain the technique and knowledge. If you want to go to an actual BJJ academy and earn your belt (not buy your belt) then Spartan Academy is the place to go.
