I hired these guys to install a door frame and trim in my home and my expectations were met and even exceeded. The gentleman that did the work was professional and courteous. He worked very cleanly and left no mess behind. He also made sure that my expectations were met and graciously worked to make the job look perfect. I would absolutely hire them again to do work for me!
Sorry for the extremely late posting. Chris did two projects for me about five years ago. One inside and one outside. The work was very professional and the quality was outstanding. I am trying to hire them again for a new project.
Backes Remodeling did a major repair to the exterior of our house and they did an outstanding job. Chris Backes covered the scope of the work and the cost up front. As things came up he would review any changes and costs with me before work would proceed. Everything was in writing. Chris was always concerned that my wife and I were happy with the workmanship and progress of the project.
My wife and I have used Backed for two jobs and been completely satisfied with the workmanship each time.I was happy with the work done last year, but now the balusters are falling out of the stair railing. I called on 5-29-2018 and Chris Backes returned my call on 5-31-2018 promising to take care of the problem the following week. All told I called them 4 times and nothing was done so I took off the railing off and redid the balusters myself so that they will stay.
Chris and his men remodeled our main bathroom this past January (2016) and I couldnt be happier with the results! They executed a fairly complex tile pattern on the wall, replaced the old cast iron tub, put in new custom cabinets and replaced the sink and counter area all in a week. Id been half-afraid to do this in the middle of the winter since re-circulating sheetrock dust is always a concern (and an asthma hazard in this case), but they sealed off the cold air return and the ducts where they were working and we had no dust problem as a result. Employees were great, the work was great, and I couldnt be any happier!
Backes did a roof repair for us after a leak damaged our garage. They were professional, easy to get in touch with, and did a great job. I never had to wonder how long it would take once they started. They were always very up front with the cost and any changes. I even payed them before it was finished, which made me nervous, but they were back the next day to check the paint. We were very happy and plan to use them again for more repairs. My only complaint would be the wait time to start a project, but they were always up front about that as well. We would recommend them☺️
Stay away. They make a bid deal on their website about how they work in your home and keep the place clean. What a joke. I hired them to install a tile shower and floor. The first day they covered the carpet right outside the bathroom with grout and tile chips. I cleaned it up, put down MY own tarp and called them to express my concerns. They continued to get my place dirtier and dirtier. When the job was done and the owner came to settle up, I pointed out the 4 areas where they left a mess. He showed no concern at all and started to gripe about how much money they lost on the job. As I explained that wasnt my problem, he then switched to attacking the cleanliness of my home. Really? Granted my steps were dirty but they TRASHED them. There were 4 areas they left messes, the carpet, the steps, a huge sticky mess in the utility room and the carport was left full of sawdust and cigarette butts. I documented all this with photos at the time. Chris showed absolutely no concern for this at all and just kept griping about his money and belittling my house. If thats how you handle problems, youre in the wrong business! Beyond that, their work was mediocre at best. Their record keeping must be pretty poor too. After my initial complaints, they contacted my one year after the job to see if I was still happy??? Laughable. Then most recently, they sent me a mailing requesting I post an online review. Since you asked for it, here it is.By the way Chris, your poor service and attitude cost you the chance to bid on the $25,000 of work Ive done on my house since.
Mr. Backes is very proffessional and he ans his crew do a very good job. I would recommend their services.
Workers friendly but like other poster they had no materials or anything to do job even after initial consult took pictures. Whats the point of that? So I get to pay for them to drive all over town getting supplies and stuff for three hours, yeah. My main concern was the rude attitude I got from the owner on the phone not once but twice! I was just calling to ask a question about the bill and he yelled at me, Im the customer you dont treat customers rudely or you lose customers, plain and simple. I feel bad for the guys that work for him as they were quality guys who treated my family nicely. Wont be using this company again.
So I dont always write reviews of service, but I felt compelled to this time. We decided we needed to replace our bathtub. We considered doing it ourselves since a friend of ours offered to help us, but we didnt want to impose on him so we sought a contractor. We found Backes R&S. We had planned to shop around but the Backes rep promised to make us the deal of the year. The average contractor cost according to Angies list is 40-70 dollars an hour. So when he promised us we could provide the materials and they would provide a two man crew at 75.00 an hour which would be 37.50 a person, we figured we would never do better. So we signed a contract and paid an upfront fee. Three months later we were told they could finally install our bathtub. We had visiting family and the timing was terrible but we went with it in the spirit of getting the job done this year. So imagine our surprise when at 9 am a 4 man work crew shows up instead of the two man crew promised us, we have a tiny bathroom that doesnt fit 4 men and they do not have tools, not even a caulking gun. So two men go to get tools while the other two smoke. Then after working awhile they decide they need more tools and a lunch break. A little after 3 pm they are almost done, installed a tub the same dimensions as the last, same plumbing, using the same surround. Then they decide their nail gun is dead, talk about it for a while, then around 4 finish nailing in three pieces of trim and the surround. They leave a pile of construction garbage and the old tub in our driveway along with one of their trashcans. I get contacted about how the work was, I say fine (the quality of the work was fine) and ask how much do we owe you? They dont have an answer for that, they have to come to your home personally to show you the bill which has my skepticism peaked. I am told the owner himself will remove the garbage that is still in our driveway. The owner shows up and seems like a nice enough guy and then springs a bill on us. 150 dollars an hour for the crew. Admittedly not a bad price for a crew of 4, but when he is confronted with the fact that we were promised a crew of 2, he tells us then we would be paying for 2 and a half days of work. In what world does it take 2 contractors 2 and a half work days to swap a tub making no modifications to wall or plumbing? He is sure to mention that normally he would charge 4500 dollars for a tub install. Since the average price the internet quotes for labor on a simple tub install is 450-1500, yea 4500 sounds like a good deal. The fact of the matter was we were charged the normal to high price for the job, but stopped our search for a better deal because we were promised a great deal. Also he has 8.5 hours. So 9-4 with lunch and two trips to get tools they didnt bring equals an 8.5 hour work day. When asked about his workers not showing up with any tools, he said they had to come to see what tools they would need, you know, like a caulking gun. We live in the county, so we pay 150 dollars an hour for a simple bathtub install scouting trip, and they still didnt get all the tools they needed. Backes told us to let him know if he could do anything else for us, but that next time he would charge extra. OK, sure, next time I want a job done 3 months down the road by a tooless work crew Ill let you know so you can charge me extra. Maybe you can have 8 people fix my water heater. When asked about the garbage left in our driveway he tells us he came in a small car and cant take it. Slow clap.
Do not hire Chris backes rns for any job ...his lead foreman was a Walmart employee has no general construction knowledge i worked with him and he didnt pay me in full until i got lawyers involved ..he has not paid other employees for past work has multiple lawsuits from homeowners and past employees for unpaid wages and collected DEP. And leaving jobs items before the job was finished.. this is a YouTube company they will underside other companies and then not have any knowledge of the work they are preforming...just hire at your own risk ...Chris will claim he needs to collect a deposit 7-8 weeks before he can start on your job
Dont ever work for this company. I was shorted hours and money. And I did not receive my w2 forms for 2017 from Chris backes. He is a crook. I have jumped through hoops trying to get my information to get my taxes done but the issue at hand with him will be dealt with in other ways.
