Checked out this store to buy some rope and other climbing gear. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and a good array of inventory. Was much more impressed with this place than REI, this will be my go to CS store for gear the next time I’m in town. Thanks again for your help guys!
Overall good first experience in this store. I do not look like their typical shopper but the gentleman who greeted me was friendly and helpful. He knew what I was looking for an walked me directly to the area to find the specific item. One other staff member greeted me so kindly as I browsed around this huge store!! I didnt make a purchase as the item was a bit more than i had intended and want to solidify this is the product for me, even though it will be cheaper to get online I will be returning to support Springs small biz! Also, I appreciated that as I exited, amidst the cashier dealing with a stressful customer, she still made sure to tell me thank you for coming in and have a great night.. the important part, she made me feel welcomed.
Great place with one of everything. Staff in general is exceptionally well-versed in the equipment, and obviously users of the items themselves (NO couch potato sales force that knows nothing about camping here!) Daria spent the whole morning with us sizing, trying, testing, comfort fitting, etc. Great job! Prices are average retail, but service is excellent and personal.
Great gear grab with all the outdoor necessities to get your adventure on. These guys are super friendly, knowledgeable and a great all around team. Thank you for the hiking hook ups!
Far too yuppie for me. Nothing practical, everything WAY over-priced.Very nice salespeople, though! Generous w time and tried to show inventory...
Jim and his crew share their wealth of experience to help customers find what suits their needs in outdoor toys, big and small. So if you need a little guidance with that new rope, ski or backpack purchase, these guys will treat you right. They bent over backwards last year to get me into the best ski setup I’ve been on in 30 years and i am truly grateful! Keep up the good work!
Great selection of high quality gear but what really makes this place is the customer service. Friendly and helpful without being pushy
The friendly staff members make this store stand out. Whether youre experienced or casual about exploring the outdoors, youll find what you need here. The staff is willing to ask questions about your needs and suggest appropriate products to meet them. The staff members are easygoing and seem genuinely interested in helping customers, as well as building trust so that youll want to return.
A community oriented local business focused on stewardship, taking good care of customers, and priced competitively with anything listed online. REI is awesome, but after my experience here today, this is where I will shop from now on.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great Equipment. Slightly expensive, but good trustable equipment isnt something you want to be cheap.
The Mountain Chalet is a great independent outdoors store. I love their professional, friendly, and knowledgeable service, their selection of quality products, and their new location. I wish I had more money to spend here, they have so many fun outdoors stuff.
The staff are so friendly and helpful. Very cool vibe in that store also.
Wonderful customer service, they are more worried about making you happy with your gears performance then making a buck. Staff listen to fitting issues and work with you. Very knowledgeable staff for the different areas of the store. I wouldnt go any where else for ski gear maintenance. Climbing gear looked reasonably priced, I will buy new climbing gear here next time I need something, didnt talk with the staff too much on this. Camping gear was expensive but good quality. I shop around alot and look for good prices or buy used, maybe not my first choice for all products, but if I can afford to support a good honest local business in my budget, I will and that mountain Chalet, thanks guys!
Staff was super helpful and had some unique stuff you dont see at other stores.
Great place with helpful staff and a good selection. Definitely recommend it for any prospective climbers looking to get into the sport.
Ron and Jim helped me pick out a back country ski set up. Complete package, boots, bindings, and skis. They were so great to work with! Its always hard buying new equipment for a sport that you really have no idea about. I never one time felt pushed to purchase up, or buy something more expensive. There were options in every price range. They spent nearly 4 hours selecting and fitting the correct pair of boots in order to get things just right and I never one time felt like they wanted to be somewhere else. Its so nice being able to get that type of attention and service right here in town. Mountain Chalet was already one of my favorite outdoor stores and with my most recent experience they have only solidified that. Great products backed up by great service!
I have visited this store several times since moving to the area. I love the store and I try to spend money with local businesses. I appreciate that they carry brands like Mystery Ranch and they have a good selection.I have made several purchases from Mountain Chalet, typically a couple hundred dollars each time I stop by. Recently I stopped by to buy a couple carabiners. An associate helped me with them and afterwards I decided to walk around to see if I needed anything else.I was stopped by an employee and told I was not allowed to carry the carabiners or any climbing products in the store and she needed to leave them at the register for me. It made me feel like they thought I was going to steal them or something. When I asked that question I was not given an alternative reason as to why this was the case.Very disappointing to say the least that I couldn’t be trusted with an $18 carabiner. I promptly left and bought some from REI. Not sure if I’ll be back or not Mountain Chalet. Maybe you should trust your customers a little more.
Great shop! Scheduled a ski boot fitting. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff and very good customer service. After an hour and a half of working with Jim, I had a new set of boots and made the decision to have them mount my bindings for me. I would highly recommend them for your adventure needs!
Great local store for climbing and outdoor gear. Can be expensive but everything outdoorsy seems to be expensive. Great gift ideas for young hip people trying to look like they do cool things. Good snow great and camping stuff. Go here instead of REI.
They charge pretty premium prices which is my only real complaint. I love supporting small and locally owned businesses so I dont mind paying a little more. Sometimes employees can be a bit gruff. But that seems to be typical these days in the outdoor industry. Snotty young kids but they will still help you. Great selection overall and a great place to browse on a weekend!Updated the review to five stars because they gave a well thought out and very nice response to it! Highly recommend checking this place out
Lots of individual attention given and knowledgeable staff. Took the time to help me find the right item and educate me on some basic concepts.
These guys have always been great to work with and are very friendly and knowledgeable. I just learned today that their free parking lot is in the alley just north of the building.
Great staff nice, and super helpful! Definitely recommend going hear for your gear needs!
Best outdoor gear shop in the area. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They have helped me find the gear I need even if they dont have it available or carry it. I have never felt pressured to make a purchase regardless of the effort they make. Well done!
Best place to buy gear in Southern Colorado. Very helpful staff.
Long time local outdoor store. Shop here first. The staff are very knowledgeable.
Very friendly folks. If you cant find the right map, just call and they can print a very nice topo/road/trail map for you. Great ski and climbing gear also!
Helpful staff and well stocked.
Love the new space, staff is friendly and helpful. The free parking is so nice!
Certainly the best outdoor shop on the Springs, and one of the best in the state. The folks working the sales floor are very knowledgeable and never pushy. Matt is a total wizard with touring skis, boots, and bindings, he’s fixed so many one off problems or fitment issues for me I’ve stopped counting. Perhaps they aren’t the cheapest shop, but the service before and after the sale is worth the twenty bucks I might have saved online.
Great merchandise and terrific customer service.
Great customer service, awesome selection of outdoor gear. They have hiking pants/shirts/jackets, lots of boots to choose from, sleeping bags and sleeping pads, ski equipment, and rock climbing equipment to name a few things.
Friendly helpful knowledgeable sales assistant. Great quality merchandise. Same wonderful experience that we have enjoyed for 15+ years.
Great place to rent snowshoes and more. They have everything for the outdoors. The staff was very helpful.
Fast, easy, and effective. Very friendly staff that are very knowledgeable and helpful. Kinda pricey, but high quality inventory.
Theyre the best. Period.
Went in for alpine/touring ski bindings and new tech boots. Ron really took the time to ask questions, find items to fit my style and preferences, and get a good fit! I feel confident with the knowledge and effort I received (plus some good deals), and Im excited to use my new gear this coming ski season!
Great customer service with a small town store feel. They have a very large selection of climbing, hiking, camping, and winter sports gear to choose from. I will definitely be back!
Unfortunately the front desk woman was rude and didnt make it into the store. We were visiting from out of state so I had a small pack on and was asked in a very inappropriate way to leave my pack - it even upset my 12 year old. I have a very expensive professional camera in that pack so I was uncomfortable leaving it with this stranger. If you dont trust me, why would I trust you? A better way to handle this may be to just ask to check my bag when I leave or at least ask me to leave my pack in a respectful manner. Never run into this behavior in our hometown of Santa Cruz. Thankfully all the other stores near this store downtown, are friendly. Will avoid this store altogether and buy our hiking and climbing stuff at REI.
Good product, slightly overpriced but I get it, its a small locally owned joint. Connected to the city rock climbing joint so thats cool, pleasant and very knowledgeable staff.
Best local ski shop in Colorado Springs. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend.
I had gotten a pack online that needed some adjustments, so I took it in to Mountain Chalet for advice. They spent over an hour with me, teaching me the basics and helping to problem solve even though I did not originally by the pack from them. After education and deliberation (with no pushing on their end, they were so very relaxed about giving me space to try and decide) I went with a pack they stocked and will be returning the other one. When I was concerned about cost, they informed me of their price matching program and my pack ended up being less expensive than it would have been at REI. With the added bonus of being thoroughly fitted by folks who really know what they’re doing.Very kind, passionate staff, a good section, lots of items on sale and reasonable prices on new items. I think I’ll do my gear shopping here now and avoid the big box stores.
If you need outdoor gear, this is the place. They have reasonable prices and work for you to get you whatever you need if it isnt available in the store. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable.
Excellent variety of top brands and super helpful staff, especially with climbing shoes and fitment.
I hadnt been to the new location since they moved, but Im definitely digging the new space! Very open and welcoming, and the staff as always is very knowledgeable and helpful with anything youre looking for. I came for some mountain climbing gear and chalk, and was helped immediately, even with questions on the gear. Would definitely recommend, though plan ahead for parking, because as with anywhere downtown, there is a lot, but its paid, so be aware of where you need to park to not get a ticket.
Friendly and helpful staff, very attentive. They helped me find the perfect new shoes! Highly recommend
Absolutely love this gear shop! They’ll treat you right and give you the best recommendations💚💚💚
Best outdoor shop in Colorado Springs by far. Staff is helpful and super knowledgeable. I wont buy outdoor gear anywhere else!
Disappointed. Dont bring kids? Went in for the first time to check out some gear and had a toddler in our group. The entire time we were stalked by the staff and when we were checking out a display tent we were scolded for allowing him to horse around....calm kid, not being destructive, literally just crawled into a tent with his dad. So much for supporting the future of outdoor rec... We put down the jackets we were going to buy and were shadowed by a grumpy staff member all the way out of the store. Id recommend spending money at a more supportive shop.
The old store will always be iconic however, the new store is amazing! Keep up the good work! Please bring the old door over! Its not the same without it! The chalet has a great selection of gear for all seasons and great, actually experienced and knowledgeable people to help you with it. Go check them out. Local legends for sure.
I have enjoyed shopping at Mountain Chalet for many, many years. I like the new location and the people there are always so friendly.
I love this store and have always supported their business. I bought a pair of Ibex wool pants that are falling apart after only wearing them a few times. For the amount I paid I had hoped they would last longer. I contacted Ibex directly to see if they would take care of this like Arcteryx does (they warranty their products) and they said because they closed their doors and then reopened with the same name they will not warranty the pants. My question to Mountain Chalet is would you be able to help me with this or at the very least please do not sell Ibex products any longer? The quality is not good.
It was my first time in their new location. Its a much bigger open space, not as dark and closed in as the old layout. The employees were helpful and knew what I was asking about gear-wise. I need to go back to see how the book section is.
Absolutely the best true backcountry and advanced gear shop East of the divide. Perfect balance between the big name main stream shops and the tiny niche places that sell two skis and pressure you to buy. They have summer and winter gear, great selection of most everything they sell, and a friendly knowledgeable staff that can help you out or just let you shop. Easy to work with and always friendly.Had a minor issue with a binding mount job, the owner right away offered a refund for what I had paid and assured me that I could come back and be taken care of if any issue came up with the ski. True dedication to great customer service! Will shop again!
Easy place to rent snow shoes.
Its not often that when you walk into a business youre treated and greeted with such respect. Talk to a gentleman by the name of Shane, his knowledge and expertise was 2nd to none. I was truly amazed at how much time he spent with me. I would like anyone reading this to know that this place is amazing and the new location will knock your socks off thank you for providing such a great location and even more are you friendly and knowledgeable staff. I have often found that you get what you pay for I was looking at tents I went from a good better to best...remember you get what you pay for.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff!
These guys are great, very knowledgeable and stand behind what they sell.
Staff is beyond helpful. Shane just spent 40 minutes with me trying on climbing shoes. He spent time describing each shoe and how it might stretch, always finding a flaw where there was one. Even though he couldnt find a proper fit, I felt like he never would have sold me a shoe that wouldnt be the right choice. He took down my contact info so when other shoes my size come into stock, he could let me know.Such a great selection of pretty much everything youd need for camping, climbing, hiking, etc. Highly recommend this place.
Knowledgeable, authentic staff who have been around a long time who know gear and know the area well. Extremely supportive and integrated into the local community. Great inventory, especially in regards to climbing hardware, for a non big box store. Support your local shop and check them out.
I have bought a fair amount of static rope from this store. I have found rope here to be a cheaper price than most anywhere else. They have a really good selection in climbing gear. Top brands are very important to me when it means hanging your life from it. They do not have off brands or bargain brands which is nice, especially if you are a beginner. When you buy climbing gear here, you know that you are getting quality and reliable gear. I highly recommend this store.
Great service from many knowledgeable and friendly staff members. Excellent selection of outdoor equipment to choose from as well.
Very pricy but it’s fun to walk around and browse. They do have everything though!
The new location is really cool
I purchased Darn Tough socks for my wife last Christmas from this store as well as several things for gear bags over the year and I am happy with the quality of the products I purchase and especially the warranties they offer. If you are willing to pay for a higher grade product I would recommend this store.
All the staff members at mountain chalet were incredibly kind and helpful to me every time I visited. Matt in particular provided exemplary service as he took his time to help submit a warranty claim for my Fischer Nordic skis. Not only did I not purchase these skis at the chalet, but after several weeks of what I’m guessing was frustrating communication with the Fischer people - Matt wouldn’t accept anything for the time and effort he put in. You’re not going to get that type of service at the large chain recreational stores, trust me, I tried them first. These guys are doing something right. You can bet they’ll get my service from now on.
The front of the store doesnt give it credit with how big they are on the inside. They have a great selection and super friendly staff.Shout-out to mainly Will, my fellow Missourian for making me feel welcomed.
I love this place. Mountain Chalet is the only place in town worth shopping for your climbing and mountain needs. Prices range from MSRP to ridiculously good, but the employees are knowledgeable, friendly, and super chill. I always end up hanging out and talking with the climbers for a while. Not to mention, they actually sell Alien cams!10/10. Highly recommend to any climber and mountain athlete.
I have been going to mountain chalet since I was 12 yrs old...I have never been disappointed in products or customer services...My first purchase was a pair of Vasque boots with red boot laces...[ Remember ]
The best place for all your outdoor needs. The staff is beyond pleasant, accommodating and great people in general. Recommend mountain chalet for the best ski fitting. Thanks Jim, Ron, and Kate. We will continue to shop here.
This is the best place in Colorado Springs for outdoor gear. Always someone to help you. And competitive prices.
Fantastic gear selection with knowledgeable and helpful employees. Great store!
Cute little local business with high-end outdoor gear, great shoes, and very personal service. Well be back!
Best selections of outdoor gear, and the most friendly and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful store, I want to live here!
Excellent gear shop for what ever your backcountry, Front Range needs may be! Staff is incredibly knowledgeable as well as super friendly. Felt like I could hang out all day- except I was there to get supplies to get outside! Also: buy nice or buy twice. The brands they carry are quality with excellent warranties and gear that will last. Dont go into the back country with less than ideal gear because you wanted to save a buck.
The epitome of why it is important to support local business. The staff knowledge of their gear is fantastic, to the point of overwhelming. They help fundraise for local outdoor nonprofits. And their customer service is nonpareil. Recently after a backcountry ski Id finally had it with my boots killing my feet. Jim and his staff put forth an exhaustive effort to find the right boots for me. Go figure the right size was not in stock. Not to worry, on a Sunday afternoon Jim texts the local rep from Dynastar, who puts them in the mail on Monday, Im getting very patiently and expertly bootfitted on Wednesday and head out skiing with them on Friday. AMAZING, thanks guys!
Good selection of outdoor stuff, friendly staff!
I decided to buy a last minute gift for my husband, but wasnt able to make it to the shop before Christmas due to working retail myself. I called the store two days before Christmas to describe what I wanted and see if it was still on the shelf. Not only did they find the time for a phone shopper during the holidays, but they set it aside for me until I was able to send a friend to get it. Exceptional customer service!
They are friendly informed folks and have very up-to-date technical gear. If you can catch sales, that would be the best time to go... especially for seniors on extremely fixed incomes
Always have liked buying gear here. Shopped at Mountain Chalet for many years. The experience and great attitude of the staff make it the best.
Love this place!! They will help you, so you can make a educated purchase. When you leave you know you made the correct purchase! Thanks for all the help!!
Wiiiide selection, up and downstairs. Ordered shoes I wanted, super helpful and supportive staff. Support local business.Lyft Code: paola81120Uber Code: paolap860ue
Super friendly knowledgeable staff. Love this place for all my Mountain getaway gear. Theyve been there for 50 years for a reason. Awesome service and incredible merchandise.
Well-stocked, friendly, helpful staff. Lot of history and expertise. Theyre good for tips and questions too.
Since I moved to Colorado Springs in 1997, this is the first place I go to look for outdoors gear. Their selection of quality American companies goods is impressive. I always find the staff extremely helpful, and while they may not have the same return policies as certain stores, that many times are abused, they will help you if you have valid warranty issue. I am clear that as an organization they are in it for the long haul with this community, give back to the community, and have such great staff that I always hesitate to shop anywhere else!!!
The owners are real people and dedicated to the Colorado Springs outdoor community! Love this place!
This is about as good as local stores get. In terms of climbing gear, they have just as much if not more than the local REI, and the prices are stellar. They also have a PLETHORA of guidebooks for local climbing areas which is another thing thats hard to find anywhere else locally; I can almost always walk in there right before a trip to a new area and find the book I need. The management is also wonderful and always goes above and beyond to help you out. I recently bought a stick clip in a rush before climbing that weekend, and didnt realize I had bought the wrong size. When I asked about returning it, they said they typically need the tags or cardboard backing label that came with it, which I had already thrown out. When I told them no worries, Jeff put me on hold, called Trango, and asked them if they could send a new backing label, then got back on the line with me and told me Id be able to return it. If thats not the definition of customer service, I dont know what is. Things like that are what keep people coming back.Support your local stores and small businesses, this is a great one!
So, long story but I want you to understand my review. I have planned for years now to do the CT and am finally working toward it. I had a really bad bag and after a weekend on segment 15, knew I need a better one. So after meetin Shane once and briefly chatting about a friends bag, I knew he was the guy to talk to.I did a a lot of reviews and searching online. Shane suggested that after speaking with me for a good hour or so at the store. With his recommendation, the Osprey Aether 70L AG, I am in love. He really knows his stuff and has experience with most all gear.I love going to this store. They really know their stuff and understand how the gear works and how it applies to the trails. I can not say enough good things about them.Thank you Shane, you made a customer for life!
Great new location. Staff is very knowledgeable.
Charming little place in downtown. Excellent information and a wide selection of products for all your outdoor needs. Ill definitely be going back!
Im new to rock climbing so I needed help trying on and choosing shoes and a harness. The staff was really helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. They had a good range of equipment and prices. Great experience.
Great store with helpful staff. Its nice to see the progress and evolution the stores made since new ownership took over (not that the store was at all bad before, mind you).
This store is absolutely first class in the league of outdoor sports outfitters. Hiking, Climbing, Camping, Nordic Skiing and more, they have the best gear and great people to help you.
This place has a lot of hand to find stuff that you usually need to order online. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.
Great knowledgeable staff to help out with gear choices.
Amazing new building, and they have a custom topo map printer.
The sales reps are always great conversationalists & thoroughly knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. Badass mountaineering store, highly recommended.
Best hiking/camping/climbing gear in town. Skip REI and support a local business. The staff here is very knowledgeable, very personable, and very generous. Never trust anyone under 14,000 ft! I love you guys, keep it up.
