Its unfair that we have to pay for UCCS to keep the rec running even if we dont ever go to the gym. Its a complete rip off and since I already pay for this service I decided I would use the swimming pool. Lucky for me the swimming pool has been closed all year because of budgetary reasons. Maybe use the fee you take from everyone here and actually use if for what its intended for. Seriously what do you guys do with all the money you steal from us? Total rip off and not worth it.
In our pandemic time, this Center is kept very safe. It offers members of the University of Colorado community great ways to stay fit physically, and consequently mentally. Thank you, Skyler!
Awesome place. I love the tiny rock wall! Its well worth the $10 price for the whole year. As others have stated, the music can get a bit loud. Last time I was there they were playing what seemed to be the radio and so advertisements were playing and that was quite annoying. Whoever is controlling the music may want to look into a premium Spotify account!
Amazing facility with excellent equipment and very friendly staff!
Great clean facility with a great view of the front range.
Nice place, clean, neat, good customer service.
A fantastic facility. So many great features, machines, resources, and opportunities. To fully explain the rec center would take longer than is appropriate for an online review. Go to UCCS, and take a tour. Its well worth your time, and youll be impressed with the scale and quality of the facility compared the the schools size. In breif though, highlights include: 4 courts, indoor running track, 2 group fitness studios, wellness center, rock wall, bike shop, swimming pools, and more.Seriously go check it out for yourself.
Great for dance practice. Ballet mostly.
Ashley B. is the nicest, most friendly and welcoming person ever. I love coming in to the rec and being greeted by her everyday! Give that woman a raise!
Evan and Kylee at the front desk made my expirence very satisfying. quick and easy check in with some friendly chatter. Clean facility and impressive court space.
Amazing gym. I workout everyday after classes and It truly is a great place. Staff is typically friendly. All the options for equipment is awesome so you can always get a great workout in. The gym is kept very clean and equipment is always back where it should be after use. Great gym for the university.
I’ve come here on two occasions where my workout is disrupted by a staff member due to dress code. I wouldn’t have a problem with this if they addressed it the first time I’ve worn my jumper to the gym. However, the fact that I have worn it on multiple occasions without any reproach shows a lack in mutual staff enforcement.A staff member was also taking pictures of me without my consent during my workout. Additionally, I felt humiliated when it was a male staff member who told me to put on a sweatshirt. Now when I come to the gym, I feel like I’m being watched and monitored carefully. I’m considering moving to another gym due to my discomfort in this environment.
UCCS is a good university. Like every big institution, sometimes it can be difficult to navigate the system, especially if you are trying to find something specific. However, UCCS has tried to alleviate this by posting much of the info online. The students that work at the campus are very helpful. The facilities are nice and useful. Many employees are extremely helpful (of course there are always jerks that with their attitude denigrate the institution, but it seems that for one of this are many that are proud and happy to help). Note of caution: the bus drivers can be aggressive and disrespectful (at least have bad experience with couple of them) and they want you to move immediately no matter how valid a reason you have; one of them started to hit my vehicle when I was waiting for my son that have a recent cirjury and this jerk almost hit my son when he turned around. When I complained in the transportation office, they behave like if I was in a military tribunal (I am retired from the military). So, is people like these who put down the name of a good institution. You do not need to be rude to explain and educate people and enforce policy and regulations. Anyway: The University and facilities are good and, if you are prepared and realistic in your expectations, you will enjoy your time in the UCCS.
Ashley is amazing. Her professional skills are extremely refined and i hope she is getting paid well.
Its a great place. My only complaint in that whoever decides to play country music in the morning needs to turn it down. I nearly go deaf when I have to blast my headphones to drown it out.I get some people like it but like a lot of people dont so just let me listen to my own thing please.Update: Music thing has not changed. I dont wanna be that person that always complains so i dont say anything while Im there. But whenever the country music comes on thats when I know I need to have my headphones on full blast and theres no escape from it anywhere in the gym.But thats not why Im here.Theyve done a pretty fantastic job with covid and keeping everyone safe while we can workout so thats a plus.Main complain now-a-days (the reason Im taking it down to 3 stars) is that they do not use my preferred name. Pre-covid times it was not an issue because I did not need to make an appointment and check in. I would just scan my student ID and walk in. But know its weird because I have to check in through UCCS, and the rec center uses my old name and thats the name they have on file when I check in so its weird. I dont expect them to remember my preferred name because Im just one of many students. I just wish I could make my appointments using my actual (preferred) name. Even my student ID, canvas, my email, everything else at UCCS uses that name, but now the rec center, and I dont know why. :(
The UCCS Recreation Center is the most unprofessionally run college fitness center to ever exist. The professional staff is understaffed and completely unprofessional. They care more about making money than they do about the people there or their employees. The personal trainers are unkowledgeable, under experienced, and completely unqualified to be in a position of coaching. They’re an organization that cares more about saving face than standing up for their employees. I do NOT recommend training from them unless you are looking for underqualifications and a good place to get hurt.
Its a great place and there are amazing people that work there. The expansion was needed but there are still many basic things lacking. Half of their leg machines are always broken, it has been a few months now and still nothing is fixed even after speaking to their employees. They have too many cardio machines that nobody uses, that space can be utilized better with other equipment. They are also the first gym I have ever been to that does not allow guys to wear stringer tank tops which is absolutely pathetic. If they want things to improve they should listen to their customers!
This gym needs better parking. I was going to give 2 stars but some of the staff is amazing. Special mention to Ashley whose paygrade should be at the top like her performanceEdit: parking ratings has gone to parking and transportation services.
I hate the fact that the recreation center especially the gym. Is not kept opened like a gym. Surely we are spending enough money to ensure the gyum is kept opened between 5am and 11pm 24/7 apart from public holidays. Gym is not a recreation anymore its a lifestyle.
The Gym is great. Plenty of the staff are happy to spot you and give you advice. However the business hours here are ridiculous. The Gym should be open in the morning on the weekend.
Recently renovated doubling the size. Lots of events and plenty of classes. Always clean and well kept staff are friendly.
Great facility, great staff
A great view and good equipment. It has the smallest, most poorly designed locker rooms Ive ever seen though.
Really nice campus rec
Very nice place with pool, hot-tube, sports court and a big gym.
Edit: 1 stars to 5 cause the staff
The entire college is a joke. Retaliation is also against Colorado law.
The gym itself -- fresh from an expansion over the Xmas break -- is open, clean and replete with more free weights at the racks.I didnt see any dedicated space for dead-lifts, so Ill go back. And where is the trap bar?Unfortunately the space is inundated with treadmills and elliptical machines, which hog the windows. And if you need a machine to do cardio, youre doing it wrong anyway. An indoor sprint track would be much more effective.. and force the wanna-bes to actually do some work, not sit and read a book while pretending ....The pool is nice, although I didnt comprehend the design of the round pool near the hot tub..and the hot tub is conveniently placed at the far end of the space, so one needs to walk the entire perimeter. And as always, the parking sucks.. this university has some perverse contempt for parking near the buildings. The old parking lot was covered with more building, and now one faces a tortuous hike on the exposed hillside and thru traffic.Sucky design from sucky bureaucrats... (January 2016)
Great but STILL NO CLIMBING WALL AFTER THE RENOVATION!!
All the need is an ab wheel and forearm rope twist. They could use bench wipes instead of spray and paper towels.
Wish it was open at 5am. Good gym though.
Always clean. Parking is atrociously far away.
The new gym is awesome.
Reaaalllyyyyyy need more squat racks, guys...
More people need to go here
Excellent gym, great staff
Great facilities!
Go for it!
