Giving it only 1 star because 0 isn’t an option. I was seen at Rock Prairie in December and was less than impressed with my experience. I only saw an actual doctor ONE time at my 5 day stay. I did not see a therapist the ENTIRE time I was there. The nursing staff not once made me feel safe or well taken care of. The ONLY reason I stayed as long as I did was because of the help of the techs. They made my stay somewhat bearable. The admitting process is an absolute joke. You sit in a freezing cold room alone for hours to be deemed “worthy” of admission. The facility was absolutely FILTHY. I wasn’t sent home a work note in my release paper work and have been calling for WEEKS just to receive a flipping work note! If you are considering this facility, just don’t. If you are considering sending a loved one to this facility DO NOT. I am absolutely disgusted with the entire facility.

This place helped me find my myself, I didnt have a bad experience except for the night staff can be a little loud. I would highly recommend anyone to come here for help especially college students, they have professional staff and good food. Rock Prairie Behavioral Health thank you for helping me with my problems and teaching me how to cope with them. Glad they built this place its close and convenient for people who live close by besides going out of town. This is a great place to get help for the problems you are going through in life.

The jury is still out for me but Im concerned after reading these reviews and canned responses. My wife was taken there yesterday. My initial impression was not favorable, especially when I tried to call her after she had been there a few hours. The phone receptionist was very unhelpful and uninterested: shes not on my list. When I asked her to dig a little deeper, she found her record, but I was deemed rude. My impression is that its not a warm and friendly place. Perhaps its not intended to be...

It’s been a few years since I’ve been here but i do want to express my concerns at the time. When i went to check in i was put in a tiny locked room for about 5-6 hours. It felt like forever and i couldn’t have my phone or watch tv. I get there may be more pressing matters, just would have been nice to have some form of entertainment. They did bring me food so that was nice. When i was there, one of the technicians would FaceTime her boyfriend and I’m pretty sure our faces were shown at some point. I’m pretty sure that is a violation of some sort. I hope she’s not working there anymore. Some technicians seemed to really care and i appreciate them. I didn’t like that the psychiatrist i saw was barely there in person and one time just FaceTime him while he was on a bus or train. Also it was very in and out. I went into a room with about 4 people all staring at me asking about how I’m doing. Felt rushed and it was intimidating. I’m grateful that i was able to have a safe place while in a dark place but i probably wouldn’t come back.

I was going through a rough time about a year ago and needed help. I went to Rock Prairie hopeless and out of options. My husband had just retired from the Military and forgot to update our insurance, so I was not covered at that time. Luckily I had some savings & was able to pay the cost until my insurance was reinstated, which was two days later. Since then my insurance paid what I had already paid plus some but they refuse to reimburse me! $2800 is what they owe me and on March 5 2020 it will be a year! This place is awful and totally took advantage of me! Please do what’s right and reimburse the money owed to me!Nancy Ott

My name is Tammy B. And Ive been to RPBH twice. Both times, I have been extremely satisfied with my care, not only from Dr. Torres, but the nurse staff is helpful and caring and there because they want to help others. I will admit there should be a quicker system to receive your medications, especially in the evening, but it is what it is. I also want to give kudos to the technicians, they have a lot to deal with and are patient and friendly and as flexible as they can be without breaking any rules. I am extremely grateful for both inpatient and outpatient services. Ive been gone since March 2018 when I completed my aftercare and am still doing very well. Thanks again, Behavior Hospital

Went here. It was awful in the the child wing. The nurses were rude, the doctor was never there and I had to wait a whole week to see her. There was this one doctor that antagonized some of us, but wouldn’t do the same to the boys. It was just the girls. The techs were not good at handling fights. They would stop it and then pull the two outside and talk to them like they were little kids and did not separate the two for a little bit to cool down or anything. They won’t let you comfort each other. Not even with a hand hold. They switched my meds almost every day, which I was only there for about a week and a half and the only reason why they let me go is because the insurance my parents had on me at the time was not good enough so they just stamped a paper that said “Free to go” and just let me out. They don’t teach coping mechanisms at all and the only things the teach are how to distract yourself from doing something, but a distraction only lasts so long. The techs humiliated some of the girls and shamed them for their illnesses. I was there in 2015. It’s 4 years later and I still have nightmares about that place from time to time. They don’t care about their patients. They don’t care about anyone. They are selfish and only in it for the money. They don’t want to help people grow from their illnesses. They want people to help their wallets grow.

*Adjusted after family member had second visit and had a good experience on the geriatric ward. Thank you!*I have genuinely tried to be understanding in my dealings with this place while my mother was there for some psych med adjustments, but I experienced a consistent lack of communication from the doctor and nurse on unit 400, who on one occasion was rude and offered excuses when possessions were missing and medication changes were not communication OR consented to. My mother’s medication was altered at least three times, without consent or explanation; they also tried to give her a heavy anti-psychotic when she has no history of manic or psychotic episodes. They revoked her anxiety medication that she has been on for years without providing a replacement, and also without communicating to her or her caretaker as to why. After discontinuing three of her medications, four days in they realized they had her medication list wrong, and suddenly they began providing her different medications. I called twice to speak to her doctor (who is off-site only) and was promised a return call, which never came, and I never made contact with the doctor at all for explanations on the medication chaos. It was clear the patient to staff ratio was unfair and detrimental to the quality of patient care. The staff at the front was wonderful and friendly although definitely stressed at times. This place is rough! Definitely cannot recommend to anyone I know.

I have been there for both outpatient and inlatient (both voluntary and involuntary) services. Extremely expensive for what you get, they are so understaffed that even though we are supposed to get (and are paying for!) 5-6 groups a day, we got 3 max. Most of the help came from other patients not staff. Doctor only sees you for an initial 10-15 minute consultation, then 5 minutes (if that) each day the rest of your stay. Not worth the money or time. I will say Dr Torres is a great physician and smart, interesting man. I wish he had a practice here in the area to see him for continuing care. Food isnt half bad, and I enjoyed the routine and other patients. Too expensive by far, but in order to get stabilized, its pretty much the only option in the area.

This place is awful. They are not timely about anything, they give anyone information about anything, even the patients themselves don’t get to know about their treatment! Frequently, patients never receive messages that someone has called them which is incredibly frustrating. One tech even lied to me about a patient getting the message and concocted a reply from her. Do not let anyone you know go here. People leave worse than when they went in. It is an absolute nightmare.

I tried to get a hold of somebody in regards to my childs well being and couldnt even talk to nobody. You have to keep calling back because they will lie that someone is going to call you back(dont hold your breath on that). Receptionist/front desk are really poor in customers service and poor communication. All they want or care about is taking your money so they can pay themselves. There is more to say but I will be filing a complaint to their corporate office. Again you have been warned!!!

The people were very friendly, except for a few nurses. The patients were also friendly and entertaining, and the group therapy atmosphere was relaxing and open. I liked the schedule and the food was above average. I especially liked the instant access to medication and seeing a psychiatrist and one on one counseling, unlike outside where it may take months to see one. However, I extremely did not like the unpredictability of being released. Probably the only reason Im not giving it 5 stars. Some people were kept for weeks, others for 2 days. Every day I wanted to be discharged. Although it was still an overall alright experience, I would go again, it was a. Very expensive, $800+ a day without insurance, though some people only paid $100/day depending on your coverage. One counseling session with the individual therapist: $300. I couldve gone to disney land!! But Id probably be miserable there. B.If you dont bring anything (clothes, shampoo, etc) youre going to have a bad time. The things they provide you with are low stock and not the most comfortable or fashionable.

Not a great place to seek acute help. I was involuntarily admitted here after seeking help at the clinic on campus at A&M for self harm wounds. I was deemed a danger to myself here and was involuntarily admitted to RPBH. No one explained to me what it meant to be involuntarily admitted to a hospital like this. (At this point I had no experience with behavioral health hospitals) I was left in a freezing cold room for approximately 6 hours to sign paperwork when I was first admitted to the hospital without anyone explaining to me why I was admitted (it may have been longer but there was no clock in this room. All I know is I arrived sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 pm and wasn’t assigned my room until around midnight) It’s clear that the “techs” or whatever you call them there are only there for a good paycheck as most seemed extremely unqualified and unsympathetic. Granted, this place is severely understaffed so most of them were working 12 hour shifts so that could explain some of it. The psychiatrist that I was assigned was probably the worst part of my stay. The first meeting I had he just told me (verbatim) “I don’t know how to help you”, and came off extremely condescending. Not exactly the best thing to tell someone that lost their will to live... The rest of the meetings I had with the psychiatrist were through Skype where the staff woke me extremely early in the morning by shoving an iPad in my face to talk for 5 minutes. I don’t remember what was said during these meetings as I was on heavy sedatives (that were prescribed to me without explanation) and didn’t feel fully awake at that time in the morning. I could go on about all of the other problems with this place but long story short: the staff is horrible and I left worse off than I entered

Ive tried numerous times to communicate with my husbands Dr and Dr Torres not once called me about my husband. The advocate of the patients did not even listen or addressed the concerns we had. BEWARE OF WHAT YOU SIGN! My son(20) and wife came here seeking answers to the type of Outpatient programs they offer due to psychiatric care has a waiting list for 4 weeks. He was told to sign a consent for an assessment to be able to talk with a doctor. He did not read the paperwork because the person was standing at his side ready to take him back. It was a locked room, and the assessment was performed over an iPad. The doctor deemed him unfit to be released and now he is being charged by the police as a danger to himself and society, which also admits him involuntarily to this facility. So now from seeking advice and finding out our options, he is now forced to stay against his will, pay for the 48-72hr stay and whatever legal fees that may come up, just because he signed that consent for an assessment. So much for asking for help/advice!

Had one when I was there and the Dr. pretended that I hadnt told her and mocked me for calling her out on her listening skills. As punishment I was put in the 300 ward. While it is scary at first being locked in to this place, being able to talk to doctors, get on the right medication and utilize group and individual therapy helped me get back on my feet and in the right chemical/emotional position to deal with life again. The bad reviews are all ridiculous. Either they didnt do enough research, or theyre complaining about things that this facility is legally required to do in order to protect themselves and their patients. They dont just lock people in here for fun. The DOCTORS evaluate you and will keep you there for your own protection if the medically trained DOCTOR deems it fitting. When I came in, i sat in an unlocked room in a locked hall way for hours. I had a doctor walk in and tell me i dont think you deserve to be here at all, and i will try my hardest to get you out of here by the end of the day. Then on my walk down the locked hall i was confined to, I happen to overhear him advocating strongly that i was mentally unstable and needed to be in here for an extended period of time. He said this after i was caught sitting on top of a garage on campus watching the sunrise, and deemed me manic and suicidal. Claiming I dont understand the risks of my behavior. He justified for incarcerating me in there for three of the most important days of my college career, with a decision I make every day. I drive a motorcycle, and am constantly aware of the risk that someone just like himself could look at his phone and end my life, is far exponentially higher than a random hundred mile an hour gust of wind sweeping me off my front row seat to a beautiful sunrise. We were treated more like animals than humans. And if that isnt bad enough, a few of the staff members seemed far more humored by our frustrations than concerned. All while we were constantly being blown off after requesting to talk to doctors. There were some redeeming qualities in a few of the staff members that managed to muster up this place one star. But overall this facility does almost nothing to promote happiness. Most of the employees showed less interest in what we were saying, than someone taking your drive through order. There are two qualified doctors there, but overall Rock Prairie Behavioral Health center resembled a profitable prison for children, more than a facility to help mentally struggling patients get back on their feet again.

But staff is rude, horrible and not helpful at all. Excuse after excuse. Discharge is terrible. He was only here for a few hours before he saw what kind of hell hole this was and he signed his self out to be discharged,at 3pm on Sunday. It is now 11:20 am on monday and he is still in this place. They will not let him leave. This makes and anxious, depressed or angry person even worse. I made the mistake of not reading reviews and going by word of mouth. All the one star reviews about this place are so true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS ON THIS PLACE BEFORE YOU GO!!!!! I’m so greatful that my husbands mind is still great to see a malpractice situation and get the heck out before they made him worse. Not everyone that needs this kind of help is able to speak up or tell people how they are treated they think it’s just the right way to be treated. ITS NOT!!!Please do not take your family or anyone here. I have heard nothing from a dr or nurse or staff. Have left several messages for nurses or therapist or dr to call back and they have yet to do so.I call to talk to my husband and all they say is he will call you back. You are left on hold for an obseen amount of time. If you have someone in this place, please be their voice and get them the heck out before they are turned worse, and can’t get out. They are not being treated well. They are taken advantage of and staff is using this to their advantage, and pleasure, to kick people while they are down. And it is very sad to see all this go on, knowing that our society is growing more and more with these types issues, and need serious help with this. I hope someone sees this that can do an investigation on this place, this is not acceptable for the people that can’t take up for their selves, or speak to tell what really goes on.Please help and pray for all the people behind these closed doors.

This place was absolutely terrible. If I could give them negative or 0 stars I would. I was legitimently scared for him while he was a patient here. Additionally, I called every single day for 8 days asking if I could speak to his doctor about his condition and give him pertinent information and I never got a call back or a communication from the nurse that the Dr was busy. On top of that most nurses blatantly ignore your questions bc of loads of paperwork. DR TORRES is an abomination to the medical field. He spoke to me for less than 2 minutes, called me by the wrong name twice (with my chart in front of his face), and walked away from me while I was speaking to him. I have hesitated to leave a review of Rock Prairie. But here goes. Lets see, PROS?They had group meetings that you could participate in twice a day. The cafeteria food is not bad, despite the sporks. And theres a recreational time where you could either sit in the corner and pout or participate in whatever game they play that day or color. They were leaniant on bed times and allowed TV in the day room. CONS? Where do I begin.. the staff for one is WAY WAY overworked and not able to care for each patient the way they should be cared for. There should be more techs on the floor and atleast twice the amount of nurses able to help you at any time. You dont get the medications you need on time or sometimes not at all. Or you get completely ignored. As a t 1 diabetic I dont reccomend allowing anyone to go to this hospital if they have an existing condition. The doctors rarely see you for any questions or concerns. Hygiene products are sparse for what this place gets paid for each and every patient that comes through. I was quoted a rediculous amount of money just to stay here. You are allowed to refuse medications if you are uncomfortable taking what is prescribed. Some of it is just to keep you compliant anyway. Needless to say, I do not recommend this unless you need to be watched 24/7 or are truly a danger to yourself. They will use your words against you.. Its been over a month and I am still unable to attain any medical records despite my multiple attempts.

Made an appointment so I could get a referral, I got there, filled out some forms, had my bag and phone locked up and I got sent to a locked waiting room until I could meet with someone. All I need is a prescription which I thought I made clear but I was treated like I was mentally unstable. I waited 2 hours in this place for someone to tell me all they can do is print out a list of nearby providers. Absolutely ridiculous and a complete waste of my time. All someone needed to do was tell me Im in the wrong place. Not that hard.

It clearly says on the website call for a free confidential assemsent. When I called she told me to come to get one. I wouldnt have called if I was seeking some sort of immediate help and I live over an hour away. Thanks Beverly (the not helpful receptionist)

Its been a week since Ive heard from my daughter, who was checked into this facility by her grandparents. No contact, no calls, and her grandparents have cut off her email. Im worried about my child. The things Ive heard about this place has scared me to the point of nearly calling the police. I wouldnt trust this place if you have issues with lack of contact with relatives.

Mental health industry in this country is abominable and this place is par for that course... Other than immediate lock-in for patients momentary safety, there is no benefit; no actual counseling and no real care!

Continually harass me by thinking my personal cell number is for Family Tree Group Home. Incompetence and an incorrect phone database can be the only explanation, as Ive asked them to rectify this multiple times.
