Nakamura Sensei is one of the most experienced and talented karate teachers! He has a beautiful and clean dojo!

Sensei Tony is a great instructor. He makes the classes fun. Before you realize it you have trained for 2 hours. Sensei Dahlia from JKA Lincoln Park has joined Hu Shin Kai. Theyre both great instructors. I highly recommend this Dojo. Ooosssuuu

I moved to the Chicago area from Louisiana over a year ago, and was looking for a place to continue my karate training. Luckily, I found Hu Shin Kai. Great dojo and outstanding instruction. Unlike many other places I looked at, this school focuses on all the basics of Shotokan karate, from kihon (basics), kumite (sparring), and kata (forms). Detail is given to each and how they all relate to each other.My karate has improved a ton since I joined up. I recommend coming and give it a try.

I live several hours outside of Chicago, but have been coming in to train on a sporadic basis with Nakamura Sensei first at UIC and then Hu Shin Kai for many years. Every time I visit I feel I have learned something important to sharpen my Karate. Definitely a great place to learn traditional Shotokan.

Yeah, dont listen to the reviewer that acts like he knows what traditional martial arts is like. Having been in the traditional community for some time already, I must say that most real schools make you build the necessary foundations first before you do any real live sparring. At Hu Shin Kai, Tony Nakamura-sensei is great about providing you with these fundamentals. His approach may be a bit modern to most purists, but it is all directed at helping you realize the true essence of Shotokan Karate. The prices are very reasonable - you essentially pay the price of your own JKA membership and the dojos monthly upkeep. In a world where there is often a disconnect between traditional martial arts dojos and modern mixed martial arts gyms, Hu Shin Kai is a welcome addition to the roster.

I Train at Hu Shin Kai along with my kids, instructions by Sensei Nakamura and the seniors is truly very high quality and one of the best in the Chicago land, this is the reason why we drive 40 miles all the way from the north side to attend the dojo.I can see the difference karate training (at Hu Shin Kai and UIC) has brought to my kids, they have become more confident, more independent, learned to focus in their studies and above all they have learned to respect everyone.It is great to be part of Hu Shin Kai and UIC Karate Clubs !
