Avis owes me a significant refund for returning my rental a month early (I prepaid). The person at the counter said she couldnt issue the refund and that I had to contact Avis through a phone number. I got a recording that there was a 30 minute wait and that I should leave my number for a call back. I was never called back. Through the website, I contacted them by email. Its been two days and I havent received a reply!
Carl the manager was very helpful and provided the best in class customer service. On top of it, he gave us the best vehicle for our need. Really appreciate the simplicity and excellence that Avis and the team attributed to the best experience we had. Again Thank you again Carl!
I love renting from Avis. It was fast at pick up and drop off times. They did not try to sell me additional insurances which keeps things simple. I will rent again from Avis.
The website for reservation is intuitive, I appreciated the reminder and the courteous services during pick up. The return of the car is self-serve which works great for me! I plan to continue using Avis when I need a rental car.
2020 Pathfinder - back break light was broken and held water which shorted out the brake light. The car was not clean on the inside, smelled of smoke and had food under one of the seats from a previous rental. Customer care was not able to provide a new car of equal or greater value as a preferred member. Rented the car for a week and was pulled over twice in two different cities for not having a working brake light. Very horrible experience.

The rental was fine, and no issues with the vehicle. I was very disappointed when I got home from picking up the car and looked closer at the inside of the vehicle. It did not appear to be cleaned, or if it was, they did a lousy job. There were crumbs in all of the seats from the prior renter, and the carpets in the car were not clean, and it did not look as though anyone wiped down the seats. I spent a half hour vacuuming and cleaning the vehicle before I would put our belongings in the car. Worst cleaning job I have experienced for a car rental.
DO NOT go to this location!!! We rented a vehicle for our family trip to Pennsylvania. The van itself was extremely nice but the customer service is ridiculous! First, I wasn’t told or even saw on the website that there is a $250 charge on top of the rental if you use a debit card. So we used our credit card no problem. We were set to return the vehicle at 3:30pm on April 24th. We returned it around 1:30 pm that day and the office was closed. The guy we picked it up from never told us the process of returning after hours. On the box it says to return the key and rental paper in the envelope that was given to you with the ending mileage wrote on it. We were never given an envelope! So therefore we couldn’t write the mileage or anything down. Today, April 27th I get a message saying we never returned the van and that our contract couldn’t be extended. I called customer service and they proceeded to tell me the rental would be over $800! Um no, my rental was $722. This company is a joke and even though I’ll have to pay a little more, my business will always go to Enterprise!!!!!!!!!!!
The car that I picked up from Chesterfield was filthy inside, very disappointing for an car rental place near a private airport . I has to explain to my customers and my boss, how Avis let me down.

Absolutely excellent customer service!!!! I WAS an avid Enterprise (Emerald member) renter until I had my worst and last experience with the Enterprise Rent A Car off Long Road in Chesterfield. Long story short, I literally called this Avis location from the Enterprise parking lot and Chad with Avis saved the day. He picked me up from Enterprise and had me on my way in less than 15 minutes. It was awesome! I’ll be renting from this location from now thanks to him. Chad absolutely converted me to an Avis customer. Bye Enterprise! Thank you Chad Ficken!
We have rented many times over 10 years at this convenient Chesterfield, MO Avis location. Carl has done a terrific job getting me in and out of the office and into my rental very quickly. Two or three times we have inadvertently left items in our rental and he had them waiting in the lost and found the next day. One rainy evening he kept the lights on and waited a few minutes past the 6:00pm closing as I was I late getting to their office and picking up my wife who had dropped off a rental. Great Customer Service!
Convenient location just off highway within walking distance to airport. Its okay to leave your car on their lot.Quick, friendly service and nice cars with fairly low mileage.

As a loyal customer, I am disappointed in my recent experience with customer service. I have no complaints about the employees who work at the physical locations. The one-star is purely for the billing/customer service department. I had gone out of town to visit my aunt who was terminally ill and I prepaid a one-way rental back to the city in which I reside. I picked up my rental in the morning and started my trip in the afternoon. About 45 minutes into my trip, I got a call saying my aunt had passed away. I pulled over and called Avis and asked what my options were, because it didnt really make sense to complete the trip home when Id have to come back in a few days for the funeral service. I spoke with Isreal, who said that he could modify my rental to be roundtrip and the price would be adjusted when I returned the vehicle. Isreal had my information and I mentioned it being a prepaid rental, so I assumed he knew what he was talking about. When I returned the vehicle this morning, the man working there said he couldnt adjust a prepaid transaction from his computer and suggested that I call Avis customer service to help me out. He seemed to think that this would be an easy adjustment. He was very sweet and offered his condolences to me and my family. So I called Avis and spoke to Victor, who seemed empathetic and politely transferred me to billing. I spoke with a woman in billing, who was awful (name unknown, well call her A$$hole). She wasnt listening to my questions and kept offering me responses that were completely unrelated to what I was asking for. I tried to be patient and not ask for a supervisor, but I was getting nowhere and she clearly had zero Fs to give. So I started to ask for a supervisor repeatedly, and she wouldnt transfer me, so I asked her if she refused to transfer me to someone higher up. Of course once she heard that she she transferred me to Carl. Carl seemed nice at first but kept reiterating what the prepaid contract is. I know what the prepaid rules are for cancellations, but the website doesnt mention what the terms are for modifications when you confirm your reservation. I asked for a credit to my account for the difference between a roundtrip rental and a one-way rental, which is approximately $100. I didnt ask for a refund. All I wanted was something that could be applied towards future rentals, which would mean that Avis wouldnt lose any money on the transaction. The $100 difference is due to the wildly expensive inconvenience fee they charge for dropping off a car in a different city, which I can understand. But considering I didnt drop it off in a different city, I shouldnt be charged that fee. They are essentially charging you for a service you didnt receive. Carl refused to help me out and offered me a courtesy coupon valid for a free day on my next reservation, which for my needs, is nowhere near the $100 credit I shouldve been given. Because I am grieving my aunt and Im completely disgusted with customer service, I gave up. To charge someone for a service they didnt receive is completely unacceptable and its even more appalling that theyd do it to someone who is only asking for an exception due to extenuating circumstances.

EDIT (October 29, 2018): I rented from this location again as the rep called me on phone and apologized, and wanted to earn my business. This time I rented a MiniVan for a week. The agent was more friendly and tried to explain what happened with their fleet previously. This time the renting experience was more pleasant. When returning the car I left my sunglasses and phone-mount inside, which he kept for me for a week to return.I would still complain that:(i) The car was not too clean, it had chewing-gum on the door when I received it, and a lot of leaves and debri on the floor. When I asked him why the car isnt clean, he said that it is a fault of previous customers.(ii) There is a tendency to put blame on things out of his control. As customers, we expect apologies and accept responsibility, when things are wrong, and a serious effort to make things right.(iii) We wanted to return the car on Sunday evening, but no provisions are there for off-hour key-drop.For these reasons, I upgraded them to 3-stars from 1-star, but not higher. If they improve on these in the future I can give them more stars.ORIGINAL POST, March 2018: I am a AVIS preferred member and generally I am very happy with the car I get. However, I had a very unpleasant experience at this location.This location gave me a car below the Vehicle Class (Standard) that I booked for, and kept arguing with me. When I complained, the front desk person told me AVIS does not deal with Standard car category any more. What I gave you is Standard, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, SIR.. The car was old (45000 miles), and clearly a small car for Standard.In next few hours, I called and verified with AVIS Customer Service that I was indeed correct, the car I was given was in a lower class. AVIS Customer Service gave me a compensation and arranged for me an upgrade at the airport location.No complaints for AVIS, but avoid renting from their Chesterfield location!!

One star is too much but I have to click to post this complaint...Carol is racist, it is sad that a customer service rep” the face of the company is displaying such mannerism” will never deal with Avis again. That’s besides the erroneous charge on my card 3 days after the vehicle was returned! I called his branch and he said that he doesn’t work for Avis yet he is a rep at an entity with the brand displayed outside of the building. He said take up with customer service and that was puzzling because he told me that he’s with a customer and he’d have to hang up on me instead of resolving the matter with customer service on my behalf the “black customer”. There’s more to talk about but I think you catch my drift. I will get my money back but you’ll never get this customer back because of one sorry excuse of a human being you chose as your rep. I was up charged to begin because I rented a vehicle from the Avis that wasn’t immediately available but showed up 5 minutes after my arrival to pick my rental! He offered I took a somewhat similar vehicle but I was up charged $400 extra dollars!! That wasn’t clean and when I asked politely, to get a wash he spazzed and started telling where is the dirt while obvious marks were visible! I persisted so then he got in the car and drove off violently towards the wash and did a poor job! All that whilst I was uncomfortably smiling to lighten the mood! It’s 2018 and I get paid 6 figures a year show me the damn respect as a human being. I honestly hate the experience with a paission I don’t recommend the office to any person of color!
We booked our vehicle online and everything went very smoothly. From picking the vehicle up to dropping it off we had an outstanding experience. The staff at the facility was very courteous and helpful.
Karl is always fun to chat with and makes the process actually kind of fun. That location also has two gas stations within a couple of blocks as well as access to highway 40/64.

An unbelievable event that is stranger than fiction. I made a reservation on 6/28/18 for a 3-day rental of a full size car in St. Louis, MO, beginning yesterday, 7/24/18. Yesterday, before making my flight to St. Louis, I realized that the reservation had been made to this location off the airport property, so I called the corporate customer service number to see if this could be changed. It turns out the PGA event in St. Louis left no cars available at the airport. I thanked the agent and ended the call. When I got to this off-site location (via Lyft but no fault of Avis), the agent there told me my reservation had been changed to June of next year in Alaska for a SUV vehicle! I called the corporate customer service number and explained my dilemma, and they said they could do nothing to change it. Because of the PGA event, this off-site location was out of cars (except for the one I had reserved but then lost due to the change in reservation). I filed a grievance and asked to be called by a supervisor in 24 hours. No call. No car. No help. So I have been stuck taking several Lyft rides to my business appointments. Unbelievable.
