Terrible. Wed been searching for a counselor for months- finally found one, or so we were led to believe, through this service. We scheduled an appt. for about two weeks out. 48 hours before the appt., we received a confirmation email...great.Less than 24 hours before the appt., we received an EMAIL, not a phone call, that said the appt. had been cancelled, the provider was not taking new clients. If the provider wasnt taking new clients, why would we have been scheduled in the first place? And then they try to tell us were being charged $39/mo. for this special service in addition to the providers fee?No one responded to my email complaining about this.I called, the lady on the other end was polite but offered no help.Then I received a text how is everything going? how do you like Thriveworks so far? Clearly there is no communication between anyone here....so I responded to the text what had happened. They texted back they would find us a new therapist. I said great, what day/time for the new appt? Crickets. No response.TERRIBLE, AWFUL, do not TRUST your mental healthcare to these people.

I was considering becoming a franchise owner of Thriveworks but then learned of some concerning tactics like these reviews. Notice that many of the reviews left for therapists are from others in the company or colleagues, not patients. This is because they incentivize and encourage internal reviews. They say to ask your friends and family to boost their ratings and therapists leave reviews for other therapists to increase their ranking with Google. It looks like this location does it at a high frequency so I would encourage people to consider the validity of a review. Yikes.

Stacie D., a licensed therapist at Thriveworks, is an amazing asset to their team. I know her personally and professionally. She is always seeking new opportunities for personal and professional growth in order to best serve her clients, the community, and the population she works with. This translates into her personal life and the way she raises her child. She is an advocate and ally to people from other backgrounds, races and cultures and doesnt shy away from difficult conversations and/or situations.I have only positive comments for her and what I know of Thriveworks. Highly Recommend!

She has an innate ability to make others feel welcomed, emotionally safe, and centered. She is consistently grounded herself and uses mindfulness/meditations as part of her practice. My review is specifically regarding Raechel Brittain, LCSW. I worked with Raechel closely in the hospital setting. Raechel is a strong clinician who is well equipped to deal with a wide variety of issues with such skill and compassion. She readily meets people where they are and patiently works through whatever situation may come up. Raechel has such a calming and encouraging presence that I believe would allow for great progress to be made in the counseling setting.

If you have the opportunity to work with Raechel Brittain, I highly recommend that you take it. Raechel embodies strength of spirit and professionalism to the highest degree. Having worked under Raechel’s leadership, I can honestly say that she cares for others in a gracious but empowering way. I always leave Raechel’s presence feeling seen, heard, and known. I have known Genhi Whitmer for around 15 years as a colleague and friend. She is one of the most thoughtful, conscious, and compassionate people I have ever met, both in a professional capacity, as well as personally. Worst Experience ever dealing with these people. Spent over 30 min on the phone setting up an appointment after searching for months to find a therapist that is available. Then comes the day of the appointment and they cannot find any information or the appointment. The receptionist entered no information, did not make the appointment we discussed and could find no notes? When trying to rescheduling I was informed me they do not take my insurance, which is the same exact insurance I had given a week prior, plus I have record of the phone call. They also expect you to pay $99 a year for their scheduling services, what service? It has been a horrible experience in Charlottesville trying to find a therapist for my daughter and this place just made it 10X worse.

One has to pay nearly $100 to join their organization. The benefits described are nothing more than what any other counseling service provides freely as part of a plan of care.I also had an issue with being charged for a missed telehealth visit even though I spoke with the provider on the phone at the scheduled time. I made 3 attempts to speak with accounting regarding this. Details of my complaint were taken by the receptionist and read back. I was told on one occasion my request would be marked urgent. There were no attempts to contact me through phone or email; I never heard from anyone.

Reaching out to Thriveworks was a great decision. The service is excellent and the representative matched me with the best counselor for my needs. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first, but I was pleasantly surprised when I met Anita Dean. She is very knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about others. I have observed that she doesnt create cookie cutter plans. Instead, she creates a plan specific to the needs of her her clients. My husband and I lost our sweet family pet of over 15 1/2 years and it also caused the loss of a child to resurface. Anita, has handled my situation with care and assisted me as I walked through the grief process. I am so grateful.

I think it is so important for people to talk to someone when they need help. More people should seek counseling because we could all use it. Thriveworks Charlottesville is where everyone can find a good listening ear and the help they need!

From the first session with Judith I found myself feeling so comfortable and understood. Having been to several therapists before I have to say that this is the first time I can see myself shifting in such a positive way in life.

I worked with Judith Carlisle for about a year - if you really want to change your life and not just be handed a bottle of Xanax I would 100% recommend her. She made me feel very comfortable, I was a young adult and she worked great with me on issues about substance, my relationships, and anxiety. Horrible experience all the way around. I saw Tracy, last name I forget. Never returned my phone call or my husband’s. She only accepts cash and is not even licensed in Virginia.Called to make an appointment with another couple’s counseler and the only other couple’s therapist was booked 6 weeks out. How is this helpful? I called crying, praying I could please get some help, for someone to shed an unbiased view into my relationship issues, and am told I have to wait 6 weeks. This place is horrible and has only made my relationship issues worse.

Their call-center scheduling staff was a constant pain and disruption to regular scheduling. I met with two counselors over the period of two years and had appointments cancelled without notice, made in person but never entered into the calendar, date/time changed with out notice, and swapped to webcam appointments (at full charge with the counselor in their PJs lol) without notice at least ten times.I left to receive direct care without the for-profit Big Brother umbrella and am now happy and confident enough to leave this review today.

Weve been seeing Anita Dean weekly for over 6 months now and have felt so rewarded by our time together. I had a great experience. Counselor was great and it was easy to get evening appointments that fit my schedule.

As with most businesses, the clients first contact with the company is the person who answers the phone. I was very disappointed with the ability of the receptionist to provide options to help my family. She simply stated there were no appointments available. No offer to put me on a cancellation list or offer alternatives.

Very difficult to make an appointment for medication consulting: they only have one person who is able to make prescriptions and they only consult by some sort of FaceTime program that requires a fast internet connection. This does nothing for individuals with no internet or slow connection speed.

The therapist that saw my sister gave terrible relationship advice which killed a 16 year marriage that could have made it if it was encouraged to last.Therapist told my sister and her husband to take a break from each other. Now the daughter is traumatized and the mother is desperately depressed because the therapist played them against each other. Now my sister’s husband is looking for a new girlfriend. All because they were told a break was healthy. Now there is no going back. This is a couple who has loved each other for over a decade and a half- they’ve been through worse but always got along eventually. And because they trusted a stranger with their issues, the husband thinks that it’s okay now to throw it all away- a loving wife and 4yo daughter- so he can live a little and not feel like anyone is holding him back. What kind of relationship advice is that?

We have known the owners for a long time. They are compassionate and truly caring people. We know they will be a great asset to the Charlottesville community.

I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy!! After 1 visit and 3 canceled appointments BY my therapist (Dr. Bowman) the night before I think I have learned my lesson. If youre like me in search of a therapist keep looking!!!! Thriveworks is NOT the place.

I had the pleasure of meeting Crystal Belcher during a business meeting at ThriveWorks. She was pleasant, professional and seems to be very passionate about the work she is doing. The office was cheerful and inviting. I found it a very pleasant environment and really enjoyed my time with Crystal.

Be ready to pay $100 in order to even set an appointment. That’s ridiculous. Why would I pay to set an appointment?? The entire website is based off of a “24-hour appointment” but the wait time seems to always be 2 weeks. For a mental health facility, this place really isn’t welcoming.

DO NOT GO HERE = the woman (DENISE) who is a nurse (I guess) that i was scheduled with today is the rudest least helpful woman I have ever met. After paying 100 to make the appointment on top of the 200 for the appokintment ( being promised an appointment within two weeks) I took a day off from work only to get a call five minutes before I was supposed to be there that she was canceling two weeks ago. I rescheduled for today (9 am) unaware that there was no school on this friday (today october 27) in albemarle. after a frantic morning of arranging babysitters etc... I get there 15 minutes early to find the door to THRIVE locked. As I wait I see soembody go downstairs (turns out there is a downstairs office BUT there is no sign to this effect) At 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment I go downstairs to meet this sour bitter woman who instantly is treating me with utmost disdain. she glaringly slams a clipboard into my hand and begins to scold me for not having brought the paperwork with me. I explain that I do not have internet service or a printer as I am carpenter and hate computers. She acts like I have killed her dog. Despite still having 5 minutes to fill out the single piece of paper she continues to harp on the ‘WE SENT YOU A CONFIRMATION TO YOUR EMAIL’ while treating me with utmost disdain. Apparently she thinks this I am obligated to retrieve this email (that i have no idea about as I told the people on the phone I don’t have a computer, I do not recieve email) Whatever therapy she is supposed to provide I’M PRETTY SURE IT SHOULD START WITH A MODICUM OF KINDNESS. She is easily the most unpleasant human being i’ve ever encountered in charlottesville. I missed two days of work, paid for a babysitter today, drive and hour to the appointment, got there early and I get pure venom and disgust from this horrible woman. I truly doubt somebody that unpleasant has ever helped anyone at all. she did not offer a single apology for making me miss work due to her cancelling last week (five minutes before my appointment) BUT I am apparently the worst person EVER because I am not psychic and don’t know there is a separate office downstairs making me only 5 versus 15 minutes early. NOBODY NEEDS THIS SORT OF TREATMENT! I think she should get a job with animals or people not already going through hell. NO GOOD ZERO STARS. BOO HISS = awful people alert!
