I was visiting from Vegas and decided to bring my two year old son in for a hair cut. We waited 10 mins and Jackie was the one who cut my sons hair. She was absolutely amazing with him. She did his hair better than anyone I have ever brought him to! All the barbers in there are absolutely AMAZING at what they do!! If I could give this place a 10 star rating I would!!
A haircut worth 60$ for half the price. Ill be going here regularly now. Definitely recommend.
Great cut, well worth a 25 min drive from Durham.
My first haircut in a year now that I’ve had the COVID vaccine. I was the first customer of the day. Shop was clean, barber friendly. Good cut, reasonably priced, especially given how much hair I had to cut. I think my new regular barber.
My favorite place to get my hair cut. Never have had a bad one. Price is very worth it. Only thing you should know before going is that it is now by appointment and that you should bring cash.
Been going here for years. Great traditional barber shop. Good covid precautions.
Great haircut,Andrew Ingle fantastic barber, highly recommend
I walked into an empty barber shop with an available barber who told me they were appointment only. I walked in at 9:45am and was told I could have an appointment at 10am. I was then asked to wait in my car. At 10am walked in to the same empty barber shop with the same available barber who them hand me off to a colleague. That barber would not trim or cut my facial hair and I left with a haircut I could barely tell was fresh. That was when they told me that I owed them $30. I have not felt so taken advantage of by a local business before in my life. This place is a joke, I will not return. I certainly wont pay $30 for a $7 head shave ever again.
Ive been going to Chapel Hill Barber for years, and am thrilled with my cut every single time. Drew is fantastic and I fully recommend heading here for both modern and classic styles.
Drew was my first barber when I came to chapel hill and I’ve been missing his haircuts. He did a great job and I only had to tell him a couple things and he took it from there. Perfect cut and I’ll definitely be back. I’m kinda picky about my hair and he didn’t let me down. Definitely recommend The Chapel Hill Barber Shop!!!!
I stopped in around 2:30-2:45pm on a Tuesday, and was getting my hair cut almost immediately. Being my first time there, Brad asked me a couple questions about what I was looking for and how I usually get my hair cut. When he finished cutting my hair and showed me the result, it looked GREAT. After trying another barber in the area and having to fix things myself after getting home, I was extremely pleased with the result I got the first time around at Chapel Hill Barber Shop. The cut I got was well worth the $24 it cost, and Ill be back again. 10/10 would highly recommend.
Very convenient, great haircut
Great barber, great shop! I’ll be back for sure.
I would give them more stars if I could. After a botched haircut at Midway barber shop this morning I went to Chapel Hill barber shop at lunch time. Brad listened to everything I wanted and nailed it. The place was clean the music was good the atmosphere was great. I will no longer be getting my haircut anywhere else.
Never disappointed. Always get an excellent haircut and good conversation. Has been my go to barbershop for 10 years.
You wont find a better cut for a better price, and you arguably wont find a better cut for any price. The shop has a very cool, modern yet retro look. The hair cuts are great. It doesnt matter if Drew (the young guy) or Don (the not as young guy) cuts your hair, youre going to look razor sharp. Dons been cutting mens hair for 50 years; he knows what hes doing and he knows what his clients like. Drews also extremely talented, and has a knack for making guys look sharp. They just give great haircuts, its almost like they cant help it, they just do. They make a really unique team that seems to embody the town. On one hand, its steeped in tradition and has a strong sense of continuity, and on the other, its young, and dynamic. Only regret is that I cant take them with me when I graduate.
Drew has been cutting my hair since my freshman year of college in 09. No other barber will ever take as much time on a hair cut, and pay as much attention to detail as drew will. He has the skills and talent to cut all styles of hair using both scissor and clipper. I moved away from chapel hill after graduating but still drive almost an hour to get my hair cut by Drew. I once came while he was on his way out to lunch and he was nice enough to postpone his lunch since I drove from so far away.Drew, since the first time I got my hair cut there, has been able to remember exactly how I have got my haircut, but still is considerate enough to ask if there is something different i want to do. He can even tell if I went to another barber between seeing him based on the way my hair is cut.HIGHLY recommend drew as a barber. You will not be disappointed.
Had a great experience here. The guys are as friendly as can be, and even stayed ~45 minutes after hours to give me a cut. Brad did a great job -- best haircut Ive had in years, no exaggeration. Will definitely be getting my business in the future.
Don and Drew have been cutting my hair for over a decade. I’ve tried other barbers closer to my home but haven’t found any that match their skill level. In my travels to San Francisco, Houston, Seattle,Tampa, Portland I’ve found barbers who have similar attention to detail but they all change double what you’ll pay at CH Barber Shop. And please, I you are happy with the quality of hair cut you get from a chain please keep goin to it - no point wasting caviar on a pig. But if you appreciate these men who take great pride in perfecting their craft then please tip them well - you are getting a bargain.
Guys here are awesome and give consistently good cuts! I give them a rough idea of what Id like and they knock it out of the park
Consistent, high quality work and a great price! I am a UNC healthcare student, and I am always in need of a professional haircut because everyone around me keeps their appearance at a professional standard. The employees that work here are enthusiastic, and I have been very satisfied with every haircut they have given me. The two best qualities of this business are 1.) The fact that I know I will receice a QUALITY cut at every appointment, and 2.) They genuinely care about their customers satisfaction with their services.Bottom line: if you need consistent, professional, haircuts, this is your place.
Drew and Don are the best barbers in Chapel Hill. Both are obviously masters of their trade and provide great haircuts. Beyond that, they are easy to talk to and value knowing their clients. They remember me on a first name basis. I never need to tell them what to do - Drew typically cuts my hair and does a great job each time.
Awesome place to get a haircut, had to wait just a bit but totally worth it. Drew gave me a great hair cut, it was exactly what I wanted. Appreciate the work done hope this review brings more customers to yall.
Ive gotten several haircuts here now from two of the barbers. Theyre not great clips prices, but theyre consistent with great haircuts and worth the money. The barbers Ive met have also been friendly. Just FYI, but no old fashioned, traditional face shaves.
Speaking on behalf of my barber Drew, I cant say enough about this place. Most importantly, Drew is a highly skilled specialist, which is why I have been a loyal customer for years. In addition, he and his father and genuinely kind folks. This family business has a clientele that is decades old, and continues to thrive. The price is fair, the work is great, and these guys know how to do business.
This place is not a barber shop... To begin, they charge $24 and I have never in my life been to a barber shop that has charged that much for an actually horrendous hair cut. I don’t know the name of the clown who cut my hair but I’m praying for his next victim because they will be in need of all the prayers they can get. Whoever is reading this probably thinks that this is incredibly dramatic but I CANNOT stress enough how much you should not go to this place. I would go to Great Clips 100 times before I would go back to this “barber shop.” I’ve gotten haircuts from my mother that have outdone this haircut one million times. And to top it off, they face you away from the mirror so that they can do whatever they want without any of your advice. I was fooled by the positive reviews before I got screwed so please take my advice and do not go here.
A regular barbershop. Three barbers as of now. Welcoming and attentive to customers, both young and old. May choose barber or accept first available. Do not take appointments.
Adorning the left wall right as you entire this intimate barber shop is a poster of the Carolina Basketballs most notable historical figures: Dean Smith, Phil Ford, Michael Jordan, etc. This place has been around long enough to see all of them play at Chapel Hill. Theres a reason for this. The father-son team not only dishes out the best haircuts for guys in CH (maybe all of triangle), but also fosters a simple, small town vibe. They keep their cuts simple and consistent from visit to visit. Oh, and its only 16 bucks which beats every other place Ive encountered except the $13 crops at Great Clips (but the service, quality, and amiability of the barbers is well worth the three dollar premium).
The slickest barber’s in town. Drew does a great job while giving a fresh and clean look every time. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. Has been my number one spot since i’ve been in Chapel Hill.
This is the best barber shop in Chapel Hill. Both Don and Drew are super cool guys who consistently offer quality haircuts at an excellent price. I have been a customer for over five years and have never had a cut that didnt exceed my expectations. Thats consistency!
Me and my father have been customers here since I was 6-years old, I am now 33. When I was a kid I hated getting my hair cut, but the barbers at Chapel Hill Barber Shop always made the experience fun. I can honestly say it is a place that still has the charm and character that made me and my parents feel at home, the irony being that my parents are Greek immigrants with noticeable English accents and diverse physical features. The owner cut my fathers hair for 20 years and my father still vehemently refuses to go anywhere else. Today, the owners son cuts my hair and each time is better than the last; Drew is the man! Chapel Hill Barber Shop is not only an icon of Chapel Hills rich history, but of Chapel Hills reputation as an oasis of inclusiveness, acceptance, and kindness to ALL people. In sum, great haircuts, great people, great atmosphere . . .Ill never go anywhere else to get my hair cut! :)
Giving a 4 star as an average of my two visits (5 and 3 stars, respectively). The first time I came, I received a superb haircut from Drew. In particular, the sides were exceptionally neat, and he cut most of my hair with scissors like I requested. The second time I came, the older gentleman/Drews father cut my hair. I asked to have it cut with scissors like last time but he sort of denied my request and said it would look the same with clippers. I dont know if he is not as comfortable with scissors, but it wasnt the same and the cut definitely felt a bit more rushed and somewhat sloppier. Ill definitely be back, but will probably wait for Drew next time if possible.
Nice enough guy but easily the worst haircut I’ve ever had. Didn’t listen to anything and instead just did a total hack job. Also, they make you pay cash and there’s an ATM fee. Welcome to 2018.
Located in the breezeway between SunTrust Bank and University Square. All haircuts are $16. There was a half hour wait which seemed to be too long for some students trying a get a quick cut between classes. I brought a book but the barber, Drew, was conversational and the time passed quickly. I received a good haircut and they took care to get the majority of the hair clippings off of my ears and neck so that I didnt have to walk around itchy the rest of the day.
I hate to be the first negative review for this place, Ive been getting my hair cut here for years. I recently went in for a trim and to have my hair thinned a bit since it had been months since Id had a haircut. I was told by Don that this would be almost impossible and that he didnt want to do it, which threw me off a little, but I told him I trusted him and that he should go ahead. A trim turned into 3 inches off in some places, which wasnt what I wanted but I wanted to work with him, so when he showed me what he had done I told him it looked good and I wanted a little more off around my ears. He then said Im done and was literally pushing me to get out of the chair. This was not an issue of me being impolite, he and I had always gotten along in the past. He was visibly angry and told me to leave. He did not charge me for the haircut, but that kind of business is unacceptable. So if you are looking for a place for somebody to work with you a little on how you want your haircut to look, this is not the place. It seems like they are more concerned with getting people in and out than customer satisfaction.
The quintessential local barber shop. Drew and his dad run a really clean and friendly business. And most importantly, they do an excellent job cutting hair!
Ive been getting my hair cut here going on two years now. The clientele is mostly students and older Chapel Hiillians. They recently moved locations a bit farther down Franklin street. Don and Drew both do excellent work and are both conversational, easy going guys. That being said, this is a barber shop and not a hair salon, something the other negative reviewers should have taken into account when asking for a specific look. That being said you should allocate about an hour of your time to get a haircut as there is usually a wait (the price you pay for getting a good cut). If you can stop in at an odd hour do so, and you might just skip the wait.
Great classic mens barber shop with good price ($21). Drew is very good. I took one star off for the limited hours and inability to make appointments.
Quaint, classic barbershop. Few words need to be said to get a good, sharp haircut. Drew is the man!
Ive gone to this shop for a few years and always leave happy with my haircut. Both barbers have a great feel for what will look good on you or making the look that you want.
Between great clips, whos next, and here this is the best one. Best haircuts Ive had on campus, and Ive changed my preference a couple of times. Cash only.
This is a perfect shop for anyone who is looking for a great haircut at an affordable price. The place is exceptionally popular so you will have a little wait and they dont take appointments but you wont be disappointed. Don and Drew attract a crowd from students to executives so they are familiar with every style in the market from fuddy-duddy to the latest fashion. Do yourself a favor and swing by to see what good and affordable looks like on you.
Chill music, friendly people, and didn’t commit crimes against humanity. 10/10 would visit again.
I gave the barber a picture of the haircut I wanted, and instead of the desired haircut, he ruins my hair. The sides of my head are shaved almost completely which looks nothing like the picture. We even agreed before he started cutting them to keep them longer so it would look like haircut I want. He shaved off one of my side burns and left the other one without saying anything after I told him to leave them. The taper was shorter than what I asked for. Overall this has to be the worst haircut ive ever had. Terrible experience.
They have moved to the courtyard at the corner of S. Roberson and W. Franklin Streets. There are now 3 barbers and all are very good. There is ample parking in the rear off Roberson and beside on Franklin. The parking is not free but also not expensive. The shop is in the courtyard area near Vamalas Curryblossom Cafe. You cannot see the Barber Shop unless you park and enter the court Yard. There was no waiting and the price is $16.
A bit pricey for a mans haircut but it was a great cut and not too bad a wait. They definitely know what they are doing.
Great place for a haircut, been patronizing them since the 1960s. Only drawback is they are open Monday through Friday, no weekends.
Easily the worst haircut of my life. STAY AWAY!!!Im new to Chapel Hill and thought Id give here a try, since it was the closest to campus, and I didnt feel like trying the roulette wheel of GreatClips-- despite this place being several dollars more expensive. I sat down in the chair and thought it was funny that they faced all their clients towards the windows instead of facing the mirror to monitor the cut in progress. Also, I had to breath through my mouth the whole time because my barbers hands smelled pungently of tobacco. But Im a results guy, not a process guy, so I was willing to wait for the end result. In the final reveal as he turned me around, I had to hold in a shriek. It was horrible. I had even brought in a picture of my previous haircut to show him EXACTLY how I wanted it cut, but instead he decided to go in a completely different direction. It looked terrible all over, but WORST OF ALL he decided to completely buzz about 1.5 inches around the sides and back of my head. I paid and walked out, but in hindsight I shouldnt have even paid anything. Now not only do I have a terrible haircut that resembles nothing close to what I showed him 15 minutes before, but I have to wait 3 months for it to remotely grow back and look good since he decided to take creative liberties. If he had checked in with me halfway through or if I had even been able to see what he was doing in the mirror I would have told him to stop right there. I will NEVER be going there again, and I will pass along this message to everyone who inquires. If I could upload pictures of this disaster I would. Also, they dont accept anything but cash, so if you enjoy the 21st century theres one more strike against them.Ugh, Im so disgusted right now. Go anywhere else but here.
Best haircut in chapel hill. Wont go to anyone but Drew.
Been going here for a few years now. Drew and his Dad, Don, are super friendly and know what theyre doing.
$21 for a simple mens haircut. Was an average cut too
I am not an expert on hair. As such, I reviewed the barber shop (quite seriously) as a service, not the haircut as a product. It is often difficult for me to explain how I want my hair cut. That said, this was the first time Ive felt so uncomfortable trying to get a haircut.I stopped by around 3pm on Friday for a haircut. The reviews stated no appointments, so I just walked in.Patience is a must for the customers here, as there were several people waiting with only one barber, who took his time with each customer. My haircut was overdue, so I waited. Some time later, an older barber arrived. Some of the customers seemed to be regulars and conversed pleasantly with the barbers. However, that wasnt the case with me.I was tired, and so I blabbered a bit more than usual. Even worse, I wanted a different cut from what I normally get. The older barber was confused as to how I wanted my hair, so I promptly gave up trying to explain and instead showed a picture of the hair style I usual get. It did not help. All of a sudden, the barber seemed angry, and told me that he cant cut my hair and to get off. He literally pushed me off the chair and told me the other barber will cut my hair. I said thats fine and proceeded to wait until the other barber finished. In truth, I was left feeling quite disturbed as to what had just happened.I showed the younger barber the same picture with additional explanation, and I received a satisfiable haircut. I paid $21, and left $9 as tip.In South Korea, haircuts are sold almost as a product, not a service. One does not come to know the hairdresser nor vice versa. So, I actually liked how it was different in America. I visited several hair salons in Chapel Hill and wasnt always satisfied with my cut. Also, I felt the price was unfair for those (~$40) and I still think Chapel Hill Barber shop is by no means the worst choice if looking to get a decent haircut for a reasonable price. Yet, I have never once felt unwelcome or unfairly treated in those hair salons. I would now rather pay more, get a half decent cut, and leave with a smile. While I could not give it a one star due to the good cut, it certainly did not deserve three. I shortened the harsh words of the older barber, but the rudeness I felt was real. Even if it was just a misunderstanding on my part, the older barber did nothing at all to mitigate it.Some might have a great experience at this barber shop. I mightve as well. However, I will not be returning to a place with a barber who was apparently offensive and condescending.
Thanks everyone! We appreciate all of you!!-Don and Drew of Chapel Hill Barber Shop
Excellent pricing for the haircut, and while the wait may be a while, the quality and attention to detail of the haircut certainly makes it worth the wait.
By far the best. Dave is amazing, he truly gets it right.
First off, DO NOT go here if you are noticeably lgbtq because they will harrass you or make passive aggressive comments. Im 90% sure this place isnt even paying taxes because they only take cash and dont tell you that untill after the cut. Youll end up paying close to $30 for a really crappy hair cut if you give a fair tip and pay the atm fee, and for that much money you could go to a salon on franklin where they actually wash your hair and listen to instructions. Only come here if you dont care what your hair looks like and you want to over pay
Don and Drew are great barbers, and they run a very friendly and welcoming barber shop. I wouldnt think of going anywhere else.
They have amazing detail and always give you the quality for your price
Service is far too slow for the cut you get. Regularly waited 1+ hrs for a spot
Great haircut, good eye, quick. Very happy with Drews services.
Best barber shop around. A little pricer than others, but well worthed
Excellent attention to detail, the best haircut Ive ever had.
I have been going here for the past five years and I have always had a very good experience. The price is fair.
Nice family owned business, friendly service every time.
Perfect fade, cool little spot. Will be back.
Love these guys. Glad I found a friendly Barber shop.
Been coming here since my first-year. Very friendly and the barbers know what theyre doing.
Amazing skills here
Drew
