Had a fantastic experience here. It is a little pricey, but as usual you get what you pay for, and this is worth every penny!! My nails look great,, and the pedi was one of the best I have ever had.. Owner was friendly, and made a point to greet repeat customers by name, and I saw him try to handle a difficult customer with kindness. All in all, a GREAT salon!

I got tips and got dipped, looked really good but came off in 2 weeks! When I get my nails done here they seem to always come off in a week or 2! This was my first time getting tips and was not happy! Have not been happy how long my nails have lasted every time I have gone here!

I called to ask for an appointment, but for later in the day. He told me he had two slots available but I had to come now if I wanted both nails and feet done. So he is the only stylist? Didn’t offer any other stylist, just take it or leave it. For a first time experience, I would never even try them now.

I have went in twice.The first time was great, which was why I came back. The second visit my manicure was amazing and I was so pleased. However, during my pedi the tech filed all of my toe nails to the skin. When he was going to start the polish I mentioned it hurt and he should not put polish on it. I showed him multiple toes that were filed extremely thin you could see spots of red. He started saying he didnt do that and he would review the camera. Even if he didnt do it why would he put gel polish over red irritated nails instead of saying something himself?? I was not rude and only trying to pay and leave. The owner then looked and tried to say the tech did not do it either. I simply wanted to leave and they kept becoming very defensive and argumentative instead of apologetic. Im very disappointedn I was hoping I found the right shop. However, handled my experience very poorly.

The service is really good and everything, but there is a gentleman there who “greets” you, and I use that term lightly. He glowers at you as you enter, talks to you like you’re an inconvenience, and grumbles and huffs when he checks you in. If he checks you in. Sometimes he growls that they are booked all afternoon, which I’m sure they are, but he is still incredibly rude about the whole thing. I don’t go there because this man makes me feel so uncomfortable and like I’m a complete burden.

Second time Ive had an appointment and waited over an hour to be seen. Last time my shellac and pedicure chipped in less than a week. Very sad because this was my go-to place and so cute inside but they do not value your time at all.

They do a quality job and great customer service if your nails break!

Me and my friends had a appointment and we were a little late but they worked on us right when we walked in, i got a set of nails done and they are SO cute. they use team work to get your nails done and they are AMAZING at designs. i got a little heart painted on my nails and it looks so good. my friend got flames on hers and they are perfect. i highly recommend.

Door says walk-ins welcome, but we did not feel welcome. Male host seemed irritated and said they take appointments here. Was short and unpleasant- will not spend my money here.

By far, this is the best nail salon in Cedar Rapids. Very clean, posh, feels like you are in the big city. Fancy. And nice. All of them are very nice. Owner is quite charming. And it’s next to a wine place and a pizza place!!

Long waits. Hit or miss on how well the nails are.

They always do a great job I get a pedicure once a month. Making an appointment is best so they will have a spot ready for you and you wont have to wait.

Called to see if they took walkins and they told me that they do but when I walked in they told me that they were only doing appointments today. Very irritated with the hole situation. Was exited to finally be able to see what they could do but now I dont know if im ever going to be going back.

Tried to call and set up an appointment. I asked if they had any openings for this afternoon to which the guy asked what I was wanting done then when I told him he responded with I dont having any openings and hung up on me. Not a great encounter for a first time being in contact with this place. Guess I will being going elsewhere.

Very friendly and they do good work. I got my first pedicure there. Since I walk slow they were very patient with me and always made sure I was comfortable. I plan on returning often.

The nail tech was awesome and did a fabulous job!

Everytime I have been here they do a great job. Served me wine with a regular pedicure and I have always left very satisfied with my nails. Very popular so you may have to wait but definitely worth it!

As I Black woman, I was NOT WELCOMED there. They barely let me in the door before rejecting me and kept running me in circles about how to make an appointment. Yet the whole time they were turning me around, white people were being serviced. Then they gave me a brochure and told me I had to call the number on the front to make an appointment with the owner, citing that because of Covid, only the owner makes appointments but the number that was on that brochure was to the actual shop, not the owner. I rang the phone standing in there while they ignored the ringing and they still told me it was the only number I could call and it was the bosss number. They kept lying to my face. Its ridiculous. Just wow.

This salon is immaculately clean and offers excellent service.

Got my nails done by Ny, she did an amazing job, I loved that she kept asking if I was liking the results as she was going. Recommend going here, make sure to have the time because they make sure to get your nails perfect.

My appointment was at 1:00pm. I arrived at 12:50, the owner looked at me with a smug look and asked me what time was my appointment and asked what time was it when I arrived. He rudely said that it was not 1:00pm and I shouldnt be here until its time.I asked for a black and red ombre and a marble accent nail, I was truly disappointed. My husband said that the nails where too thick and it looks like a 3 year old dod my nails. During my whole visit the owner was talking very rudely to people on the phone, and in person.I will never be going there again, definitely not worth my time. Very unprofessional of the owner!

Went in yesterday with a friend and both of us are very happy with the service! The lady that did mine was really nice and did a good job. My nails look perfect!

It started with them being a half hour behind but I didn’t get too upset because they’ve just re-open since the corona shut down. Once it was my turn we got started right away I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she said no problem. She started right in doing a dip for my nails which I’ve never had before. And then she finished them off with chrome polish that I had asked for. She did it in about an hour which was perfect time for me But when I went to cash out she let me know it was going to be $80. When I called they said a full set was $25, now I know different things cost different amounts but I never would’ve guessed it was that much more exclamation I feel she should’ve told me before she chose to go with the dip that it was going to be so high. She did a wonderful job on them though I had asked for them a little thicker and she did that as well as made them look exactly like the picture that I showed her. I know you Pay for what you get and I did enjoy the atmosphere and the professional work but again big sticker shock when I cashed out. I gave them a four out of five and I probably won’t go back I’ll just make sure to ask from now on.

The only place in CR that does nails right! Worth the wait...or make an appointment on Monday or Tuesday!

Super expensive, tons of up charges for basic nails & my nails are absolutely horrible. Crooked, uneven, the acrylic is uneven so the gel polish is bubbling and collecting every little bit of anything dirty. I tried to correct the lady several times to fix the shape, I had to ask multiple times for her to round my edges and she gave me a horrible attitude. When I went to pay I absolutely was not going to tip her and made that clear. She owed me back $5 and gave me 50 cents. Definitely will not go here again.

AMAZING WORK AND AMAZING SERVICE. Literally the nicest staff ever, accurate with their wait times, the specific lady who does MY nails is such a perfectionist and I LOVE it. She won’t give up on a single nail unless it is PERFECT. That’s what i love about them, they’re extremely precise with their nails, very friendly, and the setting or the environment is very clean and nice to look at. :)

She did a really great job and was very nice. They were extremely busy and if we hadnt made an appointment a few days ahead, we wouldve waited a long time. Since we had an appointment, we waited around 5 minutes for our turn. We will be going back.

They alway provide the best quality sevices and are always willing to fit me in to their schedule when im in town. i drive 45 minutes for their services because theyre the best and they havent ever disappointed me. Super clean facility and friendly.

I’ve gone to this salon several times... but I’ve only been able to get my nails done once! Each time I’ve gone (different days and times), they are “too busy” to accept walk-ins and I’m told I should schedule an appointment. Every time I call to make an appointment, I’m told they are not accepting appointments for the rest of the day... or the next day... or the next. The owner has been so rude every time I’ve been there or called. They do great work from what I’ve seen, but I guess I’ll never really know.

What I seen was they have a lot of regulars and they all seemed to like it. I enjoyed gettin my nails done. I am always uncomfortable in nail salons. everyone seemed friendly and be my nails are awesome thank you

We got there an hour and fifteen minutes before they closed. They told us that it would be a half hour wait and asked if that was okay. We asked if that would be okay with them. They assured us that it would be fine. I was honestly concerned that they would rush to get it done. Not only did they not rush, they did an amazing job! The best I have had. AND they were so friendly! I will absolutely go back!

The salon is very clean and organized! Staff is incredibly polite and will go above and beyond to ensure you have a positive experience. Great selection of colors as well as a talented group of employees who stay up-to-date on the newest trends will keep me coming back! Highly recommend!

I love the place and the work they do. They are just completely terrible with scheduling and time management. You walk in and they say 15 minutes which actually turns into 30-45 minutes.They tell you to come back at a certain time and dont even take your name, so when you do come back, its another 15-45 minute wait. They need a better way to schedule clients and walk ins.

Great experience. Reasonably priced and worth every penny. Saturday is very busy but their wait times are accurate and even though theyre busy, they dont skimp on the service details and the final product is really good. And the atmosphere is very clean and comfortable....theyre funny and very polite.

Amazing work, they can literally do any color/design you like. Never had an issue getting in the same day, always walk-in, have had a wait at times, but they’re great about holding your spot if you want to Run an errand and come back.

This is the BESTTTTT nail shop ever!!!! Very friendly staff. Veryyyy clean and nice shop.The nail techs are experts at what they do and they never fail but always aim to please. TERRIBLE experience! Brides do not schedule with this place if you want a relaxing experience. We had manicure/ pedicure appointments scheduled for 2pm for 9 people. When scheduling the appointment we explained we would need to be done by 4pm to make it to rehearsal. The last people were not done until 4:30. The management does not know how to effectively plan for these types of occasions. The manicures and pedicures were rushed, not relaxing. All they worried about was getting us in and out. Some of the wedding party did not even get the full service they originally requested because there would not be enough time. When approaching the ‘manager’ about our timeframe at 3pm. He was rude and very unprofessional and guaranteed us we would be done on time. I would NEVER recommend this place.

Unbelievably poor customer service!I made the comment she cut them a little short and instead of just apologizing she immediately defended why she had done that. The owner proceeds attack me to back her up saying it was my fault. I said I’ve been getting my nails done every 2-4 weeks for 11 years. “Well what’s that supposed to mean”? I said “it means I know how I like my nails done that’s all” he told me I was being very difficult and they might not be able to finish my nails. Mortifying I have never been treated like that especially not while PAYING for a service.He shed a whole new light on BAD customer service!Ps no women likes to be called “honey” (repetitively) NO ONE!!This was my second time at the salon and second time bleeding from them nicking my skin.She did do a great job on my nails but because of his poor attitude I will not be going back!

My first time there. Very impressed. Ive been to approx 8 other similar businesses and this was by far the cleanest and had the friendliest and most attentive and considerate staff. Free full sized lotion. Bonus! And my toes looked great.

I absolutely LOVE Nails on 42nd! I have never been disappointed, plus they treat everyone that walks through the door like royalty! One thing I appreciate about this place is they are honest with their wait times, but will always make time for you if they can.

100% impressed with the place! So clean and fresh for the layout plus they did a phenomenal job! I went in two days in a row and by chance had the owner both times, she was happy to fix things I wanted a certain way and was so kind and patient. Went to get dip nails at 2:30 in Saturday . Had to be somewhere else by 5. . Told it was a 30 minute wait. An hour later they put nail polish remover to soak off old polish. 2 hours later I still had not got my nails done. They took 6 people before me. Woman that is owner didn’t even seem to care I was upset and had to leave without getting nails done. I have been here several times before. Normally they do a great job and are very friendly. Very clean! I think they need more staff.

Super clean, super stunning and amazing people. I have found the place to get nails done and its here. I have not one bad thing to say about them. Highly recommend. They do offer water, coke or wine.

Ive been to many nail salons around the Cedar Rapids/Iowa city area and have never had service as good as nails on 42nd. They are very professional and can do just about any design/color you want. The nails always turn out flawless and last for a very long time. Sometimes the wait is long, but trust me it’s worth it.

Got gel manicure on a Monday around 2:30pm and waited about 20 minutes. Manicure took about an hour and a half. Fairly good attention to detail and a clean salon so I wasn’t too upset that the gel manicure was $37.50 and took a while. HOWEVER, two nails chipped the next day and all but two have chipped or started lifting and it hasn’t quite been a week. I get gel manicures often and am not hard enough on my nails that this is typical. They either need to lower their price or up the attention the place on sealing in the polish on the ends of each nail.

Had reservation for a birthday GNO and showed up on time. He took walk-ins and gave away our apt. Told us to come back next morning at 11 and he would make it good. Keep in mind, we drive in from all over. It was a two hour wait!!!!! Will not be going back.

I thought Nails on 42nd was wonderful too. I purchased a gift certificate but wasnt told it expires in 90 days. I called today to see if I can use it I was told they couldnt honor it. They should tell the customer the certificate will expire after 90 days. Im out of my money and the person I purchased the certificate doesnt get a gift. Sadly when I called, the person that answered the phone said we cant honor it. Buyer beware dont a gift certificate. Im going to the new salon on Blairs Ferry.

Normally I love this place. It says open at 11 am on Sunday. Its 11:15 and no one is here. If they arent open at 11 they should change their website time. Very frustrating!

I made an appointment at nails on 42nd, when I arrived on time for my nail appointment they had no record of it. After a short wait they seated us, my friend and I both got a shellac manicure, the manicure itself was Professionally done and all the equipment was clean. The next day my nails began cracking and coming off, I asked my friend and she had the same thing happening to her nails. Just a week after my manicure three of my nails are completely without polish, I’ve never had this happen before and feel like I threw away $40 dollars.

I was just turned away when I walked in trying this place for the first time ever.No one greeted me. I stood there. Then finally she said “can I help you?”And I said “yes, I would like the dip”. And she said “come back another time. We’re too busy for you.”And I said “that’s ok. I’m in no hurry. I’ll wait”.And she told me no. Yet it says walk ins.This is very disappointing as I was really looking forward to trying this place because others have said good things.

Calm and for a Friday night surprisingly slow so that was a great way to end the week. Good attention to detail, everything is new, stylish and upscale. Often lots of conversations, jokes and antics going on in foreign language that left us feeling left out of the fun.

A wonderful experience! The people there were so friendly. The decor was beautiful and extremely clean. Loved that a tv wasnt blaring like at so many nail salons. TVs were on but muted. Very pleasant music played instead. I loved the bar like set up for manicures.

As many others have said, expect a long wait. I was told to come back in 1 hour, only to come back and have to wait another 45-60 minutes! They have no appointment system or a clue how to manage time. Furthermore, I have asked them to cut my toe nails shorter, and they argue with me and then are very rude. I have had to cut my nails before going, which defeats the purpose of going for a pedicure. They do not treat their customers with respect, make rude remarks, converse in their language while giving giving dirty looks or snickering, etc.,. The only positive thing I can say is that they are hygienic, which is probably the only reason for having so many customers! So, if you want to wait over 2 hours and be treated poorly, this is the place to go!

Nails On 42nd is absolutely my new favorite place to get my nails done. The place is very clean, very sterile and the workers are so sweet. They genuinely care about your nails and work very diligently so that you leave completely satisfied. I would highly recommend Nails On 42nd!

Worst experience of my life. My friend didn’t want her nails done so refused service to me, some male staff member got in my face. And accused me of harassing the staff. Ended up butchering my nails.

I give them two stars because my toes and nails look good, but their customer service is so horrid! A friend simply asked them to get her nails done that she was paying to be done vs sitting there while they did social hour. The Male owner flipped out on her like no other. Even once she left he continued to rant and rave about how people like her arent allowed to come in the shop and I should have known not to bring her there like that. The way he talks about customers to customers is horrific. I get you wanna sit there and socialize while doing peoples nails, but to take several hours to do a pedi/nails due to distractions and chatting is beyond crazy. To go off on a customer for her simply asking your employee to focus on their job is ridiculous. I hate to break it to you people there, but despite tattoos and gages, she makes more in a week than you guys do there in a month, possibly even two. No exaggeration here. The judgemental behavior lost you customers today and word of mouth about the horrific customer service is going to loose you even more.

This new nail salon is fabulous! Has a very glamorous feel, unlike any other nail salon ive been in. The staff are VERY friendly and they offer complimentary drinks INCLUDING WINE. Girls this is definitely the place to go!

I made an appointment for 12:30 on a Monday afternoon to get dip nails and my toes painted for my vacation. I got there a little early and I ended up sitting there for over half an hour before they even talked to me. They had a large selection of colors to choose from and they did an okay job. The lady that did my nails filed them down so much that my skin was swollen, red, and painful for a couple days. Overall the place is decent but Ill probably go somewhere else next time.

This place is relaxing, beautiful and all the people working there are kind and professional!

Got a horrible pedicure here. It was already a bad job (loose skin pieces hanging from my toes and streaky polish) and then she accidentally bummed the polish on my big toe with her hand causing a big hole in the polish and instead of taking off and re doing the whole toe, she just filled in the hole with a dollop of polish. Never going back.
