You couldnt get a bad haircut if you tried.

I would have given this place five stars if not for my last visit. The new guy they have there is not a barber. My normal guy no longer works there so I got stuck with the new guy. I havent tried anyone else yet but my son got a cut by someone who has worked there a while and his was even on both sides. So I have to assume its just a poor replacement and if I avoid him I will probably have great experiences again!

Wally is the man, period. Im very particular about my cut and have been disappointed with more haircuts than I can even count, even with high-end barbers. Nothing worse than dropping $25+ on a cut, only to come home to trim the edges and stray hairs. Have been going to Wally for ~6 months, normally every 2.5-3 weeks, and he never disappoints. Perfect high-fade, perfect hard-part, perfect cut. Will never go anywhere else!

I really enjoyed the haircuts of Marcos and Eric, I believe theyre brothers and I always enjoy seeing my husband and son get cut up by both of them. Very talented and very nice people. The reviews on Marcos are definitely not true. He always cuts my husbands hair and does an amazing job. The below pelple are probably too sensitive to the buzzers and thought he was going rough. Trust me this Is the place to be if you want a great haircut! 5stars!

Been there a few times and usually goes alright, but is overpriced. I called in for a quick trim around the edges and guy on the phone was very rude about it and said “there’s no such thing.” I guess they’ll do fine without my business anymore.

Walk in, seated within 10 minutes but not greeted or acknowledged. Haircut $30, straight shave $30. Barber was Marcos. Haircut was fair and quick. Shave was thorough and skilled (only minor typical nicks in my sensitive skin areas), but he did not describe what he was doing, so I had a couple surprises (e.g. warm towel on my face, and no announcement of the razor).

We are new in the area and walking around, checking out Carlsbad and the village area and the hubby needed his head trimmed. We spotted Against the Grain across the street and walked over. Stepped inside and greeted quickly, the hubby was sat immediately in the second chair on the right. I do not know the gents name but he did a fantastic job and my husband was very happy with the way he cut his hair and how it turned out. He said it was the best job hed had done in a long time. I went here earlier today and asked for a trim in the top and short on the sides. This short guy cut my hair when I asked for a trim on the top, but he cut it very short to the point where I almost had a buzz cut. He also didn’t clean he side well with no fade. I don’t recommend this place.

Against the grain is an awesome barber shop.The level of service is top nitch.Complimentary drinks.Rudy is incredible.The whole crew is great. Theyre sll laughing and joking with each other and the customers.Extremely relaxed snd comfortable vibe.This place rocks.

Great place to get your haircut. Most places in the area just have you in an out in like 5 minutes but they take their time and do a great job here, the end product is great! Straughn blade is a big added plus. Chill atmosphere and employees.

This place is as legit as they come when youre talking about barber shops! These guys really take their time and are true artists with clippers and scissors. This is not a turn and burn shop, so expect to wait a while if there are a few people in front of you. I learned that you can make appointments ahead of time so try that.Every person that works here is solid. No need to wait for your guy at a place like this. If you are into shorter cuts with clippers then this is the perfect place for you. They are equally great with scissors but this place is definitely more geared towards shorter, more current, styles.Also, gotta love the straight edge trims and shaves they give. Theres nothing like a straight edge!

My choice of barber shop in the area. I hit up Against The Grain and I live in Oceanside. Its worth the drive. I see a wide range of people come in for cuts, its not a one type of person or cut barber shop.

The other 2 recent reviews mentioning Marcos werent lying. Usually get a great cut here, but I had Marcos the last time I went in, felt like he was rushing the whole time, very aggressive with the buzzers instead of going gently, and the fade I got doesnt look nearly as good as usual.

I have been seeing the same barber twice a week here for over 2 years. So I have experienced this place through and through. Good luck ever finding a barber shop with so much talent in just one shop. The guys are usually booked in advance so I suggest calling and making an appointment. I have been cut to by most of them but 99% of the time I see Jaime unless he is out of town or something. He goes out of his way to make it in early or stay late for you. Not to mention gives the best cut. I bounced around at first and have been with Jaime ever since. He actually listens to what your asking for and does that! Not his own variation unless you just ask him to do it his way. The vibe is good. I miss when they always had hip hop playing but I guess some yuppy moms didnt like their kids listening torap... Then go to Supercuts. Overall this place is the best barber shop Ive ever been to, and Ive lived all over the United States. Youll see me here every Monday and Friday at 10:30. AND Marcos is a cool kid, give him a break. He is brand new. Everyone starts somewhere.

Havent seen a $4 haircut since I was a kid at Russells Barber Shop in Detroit/Grosse Pointe.Marcos has given me one of the best haircuts since moving to San Diego.

Marco has ready for me when I entered the barbershop. Nice clean atmosphere with NFL game on. Marco gave me the best shave EVER! No knicks and smooth as silk with warm towels. The only reasonI I rated it a four was the chair which was listing aabout 30 degrees and was a jerking mess to raise and lower. With the shave I neverfelt comfortable and I think the chair needs to be replaced or repaired. Super nuce and kid friendly popular with the locals. I recommend Against The Grain highly.
