The internet is constantly going down at least once a week around the same time and it takes them over five hours to even make a simple Facebook post to inform customers of an outage and they always use the same vague “Upstream provider” excuse. This has been going on for the past four months straight. Their costumer service is terrible and they refuse to prorate your bill. I wouldn’t recommend this provider to anyone who wants reliability. Not to mention I pay extra for faster service and never get close to the speed stated and loose connection to my PlayStation constantly. At this point it feels like they’re just cutting it off to save money.

Their 24 hour assistance line is nothing more than a bot that hangs up on you without giving any options to speak with a person. The internet and power goes out multiple times a week and there is zero chance to get a hold of anyone to resolve any issue. DO NOT waste your money with this company. STAY AWAY!!!

You have to use them for electricity. But find another way to get your cable and Internet! Their service is terrible. Multiple outages and sometimes days before they address it. Obviously not up to operating a broadband system.

My father called to sign up for Internet service. He has had BTES in the past so it should be fairly simple to have it switched back from a competitor.The first time they were scheduled to come out both he and myself went to the house and after they never showed up during the scheduled time he finally called and they were running behind.He took off work a second day and the guy said he would have to drill into the wall and run install a new outlet and come back another day. Why can the previous outlet not be used ?Fed up, my father cannot take off another day and lose more time at work nor am I willing to drag my kids to sit for hours waiting on someone who likely isnt competent to show up. I know these are not BTES employees but they need to be made aware as this type of service isnt acceptable.Unfortunately we wont be switching providers even tho we truly did want to support a local provider.

This company is very expensive for internet that goes out weekly & sometimes at the same time for a set amount of time daily. The speeds are also not true speeds. Sometimes you only get half of what you actually pay for. Yes, I know tech, routers and networking. It has nothing to do with the my equipment or usage. All of Btes users experience the outages at the same time frequently (family, friends, neighbors, work).

They cut. then call you to tell you that you need to pay $75 dollars to reconnect and can charge you up to double the last month bill. why not call before you cut? . and will not give you a detailed invoice on why it cost $75 to take 2 peices of plastic out of your meter . and god forbid they forget a temper tag and blame you for it . this company has shown me that private power is a mistake and can never be fixed and that they are greedy and I would change power companys if they didnt have a monopoly on the grid also deserves a 0 star rating and now im being blamed for tempering with meter this is robbery and I will be going to court over this .maybe whoever cut the power just forgot to tag it and now im getting charged $300 almost a week pay for lies I want to switch power grids so bad but we are stuck in a communist country now and theres nothing we can do about it

If I could rate 0 Stars I would....... this crooked company will shut your service off and say that you were in non payment status..... If it wasnt for my bank transaction history to prove they got their money they would try to charge a reconnect fee. Be sure to always keep your bank statements. I

Extremely shady. Got a disconnect in the mail on the 12th, shut off was at 5pm... On the 12th, and no explanation for the oddball $25 bucks. Even more odd this is all happening the same week I get paid, twice in a row. I have receipts showing my account is good, screenshot of everything plus every bill I was sent with usps informed delivery sending me pics of my mail. I think class action is needed. If anyone is reading this and has had similar issues call wcyb or a legal counselor and lets stop these crooks.

We have been with BTES for over two years now. They showed up today at 2:45pm on a holiday (Martin Luther King Day) to shut off our power. We were given zero notice that there was an issue and told we had until 5pm or our power would be disconnected. Our account is in good standing, but our guarantor had moved (still within the service area and has the same account). We were told we either had two hours to pay the $500 deposit or come there, with our guarantor, on a holiday, to submit the same exact form....for the same exact two parties...on the same exact account as before or our power would be disconnected. Absolutely ridiculous. I have been pleased with BTES up until this point, even with the slow internet speeds, and after I figured out I was charged $110 more for levelized billing, but I am extremely displeased with what unfolded today. Absolutely abysmal customer service! If there was any other option, I would take it.

BEWARE! Stay away from their INTERNET! Don’t sign nothing! Installation fee is not waived!! Will have to pay if you have to cancel! Price is $500.00! Was lied to and was very deceived! Lady at the COVID mobile home told me I wouldn’t have to pay anything because there is no deposit nor installation fee! Liar! Their internet kept going out on us and had very slow speeds. Couldn’t get on the internet for 30 minutes sometimes and had to unplug router multiple times. Called multiple times to the technical support team and left messages to call me back. Nothing! Finally got ahold of a gentleman who told me it wasn’t the internet it was our $300 gaming router. Replaced the router and had to pay another good chunk of change for it to have the same issue. Switched to Spectrum because unlike BTES electric company. Their speeds are truly better. They don’t lie about their speeds. Called BTES and got a very very hateful elder woman. Asking me do I read what I sign. I went off face value because I was standing up around a COVID motor home with a long customer service line. I felt very uncomfortable holding up the line. I asked the lady straight up. I don’t want to have to PAY anything if I have to cancel. I always had spectrum where I moved from and there were always no contracts/agreements/install fees. Moved here in backwoods Tennessee where they can rip you off just because they are essential. Anyways. It’s not our router it was the internet! Switched over because I’m tired of them telling me it was my router. I tell you what. Better Business B. is going to have a field day with an essential company charging crazy rates during a national pandemic. Told the elder lady I would rather speak to her supervisor. Will update soon. Will give the feedback on how I was treated.Update: Nobody called me back! Imagine that! Called again to speak to another rude employee who tried to school me and put me in my place by saying “of all the years I worked here, we have never had any trial periods”. They don’t listen to no one. Who said anything about a trial period? Does everyone who live here love being in a contract? I don’t! When I signed up for it, I asked I don’t want to have to PAY for anything if I have to get out of it! I asked her why was there an installation fee because all the COVID motor home lady did was clicked a mouse and requested me to hook everything up! I was the one who did the installation! Crooks at its best! Capitalism at its best! Still waiting on a supervisor to get back with me so I can go another round with someone. They won’t fix my problem and I’m stuck paying for service I can’t use. I find that stealing and morally unacceptable. Nasty business! Im a single disabled mom. I had a family emergency and spoke to Diane. We agreed that if I paid a certain amount she would work with me until the next day for the rest. So I went and paid what I promised and they cut off my power. They refused to say what time it was cut off. because I have a reciept with the time plus I verifity with my son the power was on after I paid. Now they want a reconnect fee. And Diane is now in meetings and wont speak to me. They overcharge for everything already. But they have a monopoly being the only power company.

The lady this time with the pretty blonde hair with colored highlights (I don’t know her name) was amazing with getting our services switched! I only give them 4 stars bc I wish they had an energy tracker like Daytona Beach utility does that tells you how much you are using day by day online!

Prices for electric and internet are so much better in Tn than those in the Va side. I pay half as much in a 4 bedroom house with a full basement as I was in a 2 bedroom apartment 😕 Amazing!! 😊

There were supposed to turn off my cable and internet. They took the liberty of turning off my electricity as well. Told me it be 50.00 to turn it back on. They said I want specific. So I went down to listen to the call as well. Finally the girl at the front window said they were going to turn it back on no charge. They didnt want me to listen to the call because I know what I said. Tried to screw a working man out of 50 dollars. Sad.

This place treats you any kind of way they want because they know you cant go anywhere else. They make everything as hard as possible for you. My son and I both paid the same bill not knowing the other paid it already. I went up there to get a refund on one of the payments and they said I had to have the receipt, which I did....AT HOME, and they were about to close. So I had to speed back home to get it then speed back to their office. They had already verified who I was with my SSN. They are looking at the double payment on their computer. There was absolutely NO reason for them to inconvenience me in that way. Bet theyd appreciate their customers more if we could shop around for their service. I hate this place so much!!!!

Horrible service when it comes to people inside and anyone answering the phones. I had no help at all and was rushed while setting up my account to be able to pay with a check by phone, so my information was not correct, due to this I had to pay 8 dollars extra to pay by card! I called at 12pm and left a voicemail, I did NOT receive a call back and was on hold for over 10 minutes during this, I called again at 4:15 and was on hold for 15 minutes before getting through to a very pushy wom . Who was the one to rush me with my account info. When inside paying the woman at the window does not speak to you and does not acknowledge you in any way, she takes the payment and gives you a recept that is all. If you speak to her she normally ignores you.

Any time I have had a question, BTES was quick to respond and provide assistance. Also-we have only experienced one power outage that I can remember and it was resolved super fast! Their commitment goes beyond customers and is extended into the community through volunteer efforts, fundraising, and other service activities that help those who need it! That says a lot about the company and the people working there!

Charged me like $500 bucks for a deposit for electric services for a trailer. Very high. Also, if you own a multi unit facility you have to redo the application process every time you need to put in your name when it goes vacant and you want to turn on the electric. Even if you own the whole building you still need to do individual applications for each unit. I gave them two stars because they werent mean about it, but it is just annoying to have to pay a $500 deposit each time and have to reapply ever time you get electric turned on.

Called customer service around noon today for a service issue with the cable television. The technician, Kenny Venable, was onsite within 3 hours. After a quick troubleshooting process, Kenny found the wire crimped inside the box outside of the home. He replaced the wire and now all channels are working to our satisfaction. Kenny was top notch, professional and personable. Highly recommend Kenny as a technician. BTES was extremely quick in response and assistance.

You also have to pay on time, not be one day late for a year to get deposit back. I paid 450 dollars in 2006 when I moved to Bristol, I have yet to get my deposit back. Because sometimes you cant help but be late. But I have a question, when is btes going to start giving me the interest that my money is making them after 12 years I must have a good amount of money saved. Your deposit should be giving back in five yrs. No matter what. But they can do whatever its the only place we have to get electricity from. Pay me my interest since you wont give me my deposit back.......You cant have your cake and eat it too.

Used to be great, now they throttle speeds! I work from home doing live broadcasting. A few months ago, BTES began throttling me, the broadcast would go down for a few seconds every 2 hours. I complained via email several times and the issue was corrected. They are now throttling me again and refuse to respond to my emails for support. This is costing me viewers, which means money. Over the phone they will swear they do not throttle their services, yet every field technician will confirm they do. I think it is time to move on to another ISP!Update: After sending an email to customer support as requested by a comment below from the provider itself, my download speeds have dropped from the paid 100mb/s to less than 20mb/s. Large software downloads/updates have now been throttled to less that 1mb/s. I believe it is time to switch to Spectrum, their service for 100mb/s is less per month anyway. I stuck with BTES because it was fiber, not worth it.

Paying for 50Mbps/100Mbps and only getting 5Mbps down and 9Mbps up, literally can not even watch a 5 minute YouTube video at 720 to 1080p. Better of using the 3G on my phone, this is a scam and is wrong. How can you let someone pay for 50Mbps and only give them 5Mbps!? Thats just ridiculous. Better off to get Spectrum because you actually get 50Mbps and its even cheaper than BTESs 50Mbps plan!!!!

This power company exploites the fact that they are the only option in our area. Requiring deposits for people with 700 credit scores just because their computer said so. Ensuring that you will not ever get that deposit back unless you make them the center of your life for a year. Telling you on the app that e checks can no longer be accepted on your account and then charging you an 6-8 dollar convenience fee for credit card payments. This company is the epitome of hidden fees and hustling its customers. Choose carefully before having to deal with BTES.

The internet speed you pay for is never what you get. I pay for 30Mbps and my devices rarely reach a third of that. If you call them they’ll ask you to run a speed test, which will show your slow speeds, then offer to send a tech out. The tech will say there is nothing wrong and you’ll owe them a fee for an “unneeded visit.”

If you pay 1 day past your due date they will not let pay with a check anymore for 12 months! You have to pay on the exact due date or you lose check pay!! And in those 12 months if you pay one day late you have to start your 12 months over!! So irritating. The offer no help at all. And I hate that I have to drive there to pay or I have to pay a $10 fee to pay online or over the phone. I wish we had more options for power.*** Updated 12/2/2018***My daughter was in Niswongers Childrens Hospital for a week, our payment arrangement date fell on that week. WORST internet service Ive had in the 8 years Ive lived in Tennessee. Techs dont know anything except the cookie cutter answers they spew out of a book without any real knowledge of the system. If your internet is working fine one minute & not the next, it must be too many devices regardless of the fact that its the same number as every day the last 13 months. If youre not happy with that answer, then it must be that your router has been hacked. They are truly ignorant & worthless!!!

Terrible. Their meter didnt give out a proper reading so they just made up a price for me based off the year before (when I didnt even live there) which was more than I was using. Why use that one bill? your bill goes up bc of ur cable and internet! Cable is 50$ with 70 channels, internet is 50$ ... with spectrum cable is 45$ with 125 channels and internet is 45$!! This is the absolute worst electic company I have ever had to deal with. I used my grandmother as a guarantor for the starting of my service and she told them up front that it would not be long before she would have to cancel her service due to the death of her husband and her needing to move. They told her and I that it would NOT cause any problems and that when the time came she could contact customer service to disconnect. PLEASE NOTE they say that your guarantor just needs to have had service with them for 1 year and been in good standing!!! She was in wonderful standing on her account and then had service for over 2 years... but as soon as she turns her service off they tell me I need to have $155 by the first of the month to keep my service on.... WHY DID THEY NOT SAY THIS UPFRONT!? If at all possible I would advise anyone and everyone to never use them for anything. Personally, just because of them I would love to move out of the area. NO customer service skills, and no empathy for the situation at all. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!

If I could put negative stars I would. They lied to us and told us our landlord required them to put some kind of box on our water heater which regulates how much hot water you can have a day. I have small children, Im constantly running my dishwasher, clothes washer and baths. It seems like every night around 9 my hot water is cut off. This means after everything is done for the day, mom doesnt get a hot shower. Thanks btes.

Absolute garbage internet service. Always have problems and I know several people that have the same issue. When we call they always say there is a problem with our router. We have bought 3 new routers and the one we use now is a $200+ router. We pay for 60 download and at the best we get around 30. All day today I cant connect to anything and Ive reset over and over only to get under 10 download.

Customer service is horrible! App doesnt work, website says payment options cant be reached, 423 & 855 numbers disconnect you and tell you theres a problem with their service. I work two jobs. Simply missed a payment and when I tried to make arrangements the threatened to turn off power if not paid immediately. I was 13 days late, really 13 days. Been a customer for 15 years and if there was someone else to get power from I would change provider immediately. Honestly I only gave it 1 star cause you cant choose no stars. I agree with Joseph. We moved here a year ago and they doubled our deposit from the highest bill at the residence, which was 400 dollars, so our deposit was 800 dollars. How is that fair that they go on a bill that was not even created by you. that is totally a dirty way to do someone moving to Bristol. they don`t care as long as they are raking in that money. I would advise anyone thinking of moving to Bristol to give it another thought before doing it. The rent in this town is bad enough without your electric co taking advantage!!

This place is pathetic and run by heinous people with monstrous policies. My husband and I always pay half of our bill at the beginning of the month and the rest at the end of the month. Thats the ONLY way we can do it because Im the only one able to work and Ive been lucky to clear 20 hours every week where I work. This time, though, we received a yellow notice on our door saying if we didnt pay $85 and some cents (which is also about $20 more than what it shouldve been), our power would be cut off by 5 PM today. The last time we had this issue, my husband was able to call and rectify the problem, but this time they said there was nothing they could do because our last day to pay came early this month. I had to ask my grandmother for the money because these monsters were willing to cut off our heat in snowy 20-degree weather. Because there was nothing they could do. As if theyre not the ONLY electric company in area we HAVE to use, and they have no control over their own policies. The water heater that BTES installed 15 years ago wasnt getting hot enough. Within an hour the friendly service technician was here replacing outdated parts. I feel like I have a brand new water heater and it didn’t cost a thing because I am on the BTES water heater program. I just took the hottest bath I’ve had in ages and it was marvelous!

One of the absolute worst institutions. They required, or should I say forced, customers to go to IPTV. The IPTV goes down several times a week. Since October I cant count a week in which it has not went out. Their rates are exorbitant. They require a home phone service because if you drop it off of your quote-unquote bundle plan the rate does not go down.

Tired of the bad reviews, Ive never had bad issues with BTES, internet is great and stable, as a IT professional I dont see it being worth it for the 1gb internet. You can get 1gb to there speedtest server but outside of that its very spotty. Ive got high end equipment that I know can do the job of 1gb internet, as soon as they offered it for $100 I tried it and was unhappy, lowered back to 100mb, maybe its time to try 1gb again. I will say their customer service could use some work but ultimately I think it has to do with the people they have being over worked, they should really look into expanding and hiring more employees. Hope this review helps someone.

Fantastic customer service. Every interaction Ive had with BTES has been quick and easy.Ive been a customer 3 years now and Ive had to call about internet service issues a handful of times, but it was always resolved quickly.Last year I was upgraded from 60mbps to 100mps (like most in the area) at no additional charge.I recently had to cancel my cable and just after a less than 2 minute talk with Ana it was done. Give her a raise.If youre looking at the overall negative reviews just remember that when people are angry its easy to vent your frustrations. However when youre satisfied its easy to stay quiet and not sing praises.

Hands down, the best internet service we have had. We have had no outages and the speed tests always return with a solid connection at the speed expected from our service. We also have our electric service with BTES and have had no troubles there either. The rates are reasonable as well.

Literally the worst company. Ive complained. I e written emails. I’ve called TVA. BTES is a lousy utility company. Never ever ever get cable through them. Bristol residebtscare forced to use them for electricity. Don’t bundle. If youre ever late you will pay a huge penalty. Cannot day enough bad things about BTES. Been in the office many times with folk screaming and crying over their bills. Sometimes I’m one of them. Bristol’s problem is it’s too influenced by Bristol Va.. BTES does not represent Tennessee well. I thought we were a nice and honest people. This utility company is ruthless.

I’ve had electricity with these people for many years, and that is only because I can’t get it anywhere else. The guys who come out and turn the power on actually do that, but call them for support, or problems...wasting your time. It’s a monopoly and they sure act like it. The first answer you get to anything is no...we can’t do that. Whoever runs BTES needs to go.

Brand new account holder, just moved to the area.Worst website account navigation Ive ever experienced with a Utility company. Absolutely no detailed account information regarding terms and conditions, no information on what my services are (even to differentiate internet from power), no detail regarding the individual charges (internet? power? other items? youll never know), and after a random fee on an invalid account, i dont trust their online payment systems at all. I have perfect credit, and havent had any type of bounced fee in over 10 years of home ownership, but my first payment to BTES (which I was trying to pay over a month early) incurred a $26 fee due to some unknown error when online payment was submitted. Customer service was 0% helpful in figuring out the problem.Coming from Verizon FIOS, im less that thrilled that im stuck with this for a year.Its a complete joke that this website is kept by an Internet service provider.

Whenever I have dealt with BTES they have been very professional and very helpful. I work for a local non-profit charity with 13 buildings that are spread over two campuses. If I have to call, BTES always responds in a timely manner and solves our problems.

Really awful company, and the best part is you have no choice but to deal with them. They will demand a deposit to get service turned on that is just ridicules. And guess what? Yeah, they dont take debit cards to pay it either. And do you like paying extra fees just for the privilege of paying your bill? Well now you can! And if you have some sort of problem, mine was with the internet, the customer service is just a joke. they just want you off the phone and will say whatever it takes to get that done. Waiting for a call back from them? Dont bother.

I have never in my life had to deal with such hateful people. They have a ridiculous start up policy. Your deposit is determined by the highest bill the home has ever had then they double it to come up with your deposit. So the people before you had a $400 light bill one year then your deposit to get your power turned on is going to be $800!! I am sorry but no one who is moving can afford that kind of a deposit to have lights turned on! This is not a good way to get people to move to Blountville/Bristol.
