My son started taking classes with Ancient Ways a few weeks ago, and we couldnt be more pleased with the experience thus far. The instructors and even the students, regardless of tenure, are supportive and caring, and seem to act as a unit to ensure that everyone grows and excels. We have felt very welcome there since the first trial class. The only downside thus far is that my son never wants to leave after class because hes so excited to keep training and practicing!

I couldn’t speak any more highly of Ancient ways if someone asked me to. We are so impressed with the chill, easy and happy vibe of the entire place. Our son is 3 and is one of the most headstrong and independent little fellows and so far ( 3 months in) he has blossomed with talking, decision making and patience. It’s the small details that they finesse into the program that have really made a difference with Dylan. It’s not some gimmicky program either! They really do teach these wee warriors how to practice martial arts in a graceful and respectful manner. All the kids are always happy and it’s truly because of the teacher, Ms. Tanya. We adore her! She has the most calming voice and it’s accompanied by a cool German accent. ( I like that lol)... she is very wise and very good with the children. She never raises her voice but has a great way of keeping the children focused and attentive. My son asks about her daily and especially when faced with decision making at home “ Ms. Tanya would be proud mommy!”.. if you are ever looking into a program for your son or daughter, this is the one, I promise.

Our son has been at AWMAA for almost 2 years. We started out with the summer special just to see if he liked it. He fell in love and so did we. As a homeschooled kid, its given him both exercise and a chance to meet other kids. As the very shy boy he was when we first walked in, Ive watched his confidence in himself and his abilities grow as hes learned how to defend himself, how to work with others, follow instructions, and of course recite The Code. When I was diagnosed with cancer over the holidays, coming to class gave him a great outlet as he dealt with his own feelings surrounding that. As hes ranked up, hes been given the opportunity to help teach lower ranks, another great opportunity. Every instructor truly cares about the whole child, not just if they can punch or kick. We recommend AWMAA without hesitation!

My son attended here and was forcefully removed from the program after about a month. Waste of time and money. Unfortunately my son was looking forward to learning from the instructors here, but they did not have time or patience to deal/were not able to redirect him when he couldnt do something the first time. He was six; most things he will not get right on the first try.Additionally the instructing part of the classes was about a third of the day; the rest of the time I observed all of the students watching more mature dvd content than I would have liked (15+ content) and/or on their cell phones in the small front corner room. Was not worth the ungodly amounts of money in my opinion, and my son did not need to go to a shrink as they told me he would need to do or be addicted to drugs when he was a teenager. Sadly, i should have posted this three years ago but saw them recommended on my social media and decided to leave my review here of my experience.

I do this with my family two to three days a week. I am very stiff. But now I can almost sit Indian style comfortably. The instructor really breaks down the movements making it easy to learn and understand. The people all seem like really good people. The type of people I would want to surround myself with and my kids with. My wife hates normal exercise but she really like this class. I have even done some of there grappling classes and sparing classes. There is no ego and it’s pretty laid back. It’s all done very safely. My family has a lot of fun and they learn a lot.

As an adult who was looking to get back into martial arts, I found Ancient Ways through a google search of local schools, and after reviewing their webpage, I made an appointment for an introductory lesson. I noted the studio was well maintained, spotless, with quality equipment. Everyone was having fun, but focused and respectful of each other and the school. I recall talking with Ms. Tanja for about 30 minutes, and I knew I just had to sign up that day. This was where I wanted to be.First, the schedule is exceptionally accommodating. For me, getting out of work at 5pm is simply not an option. The adult and teen classes (at present) start at 7:45pm on 4 days a week. So I actually have the ability to choose classes that fit my schedule.Second, as to the physical components of the classes - there is a blended, grounded reality to training - what is going to protect you out in the real world. I have learned different grappling techniques along with what you would call classic martial arts kicks, punches, and forms. It doesnt matter that you arent a super dynamic fitness god - everyone can do this material! Everyone can learn to defend themselves, whether you are 8 or 80, and the staff notes your fitness level and goals to help. That said, there are also a lot of electives available outside the core curriculum that let me dig into some areas that I want to add to who I am as a martial artist (sparring, weapons, and even some more dynamic/acrobatic moves). And this school has a committed group of black belts of all ages. Some places, black belts do not really get more advanced curriculum beyond adding a few new kicks or endurance drills. Here, material truly continues on, and you really get the sense that youre on a path that will stay with you a lifetime if you continue. As to the interpersonal, everyone there, from Master Brown to Ms. Tanja, Mr. Brennan and Ms. Tea and Ms. Chevis, all the black belts and other students...they care about /you/. They have taken the time to know me, my goals, and who I am. Everyone there is like family, and its about becoming a better person on the whole and being wise with your skills. Ive definitely become a better partner, attorney, and friend in the past year because of skills I have developed through training at this school.Ive never once regretted my decision to sign up with Ancient Ways a year ago. A review here cannot do justice to the impact this well-rounded school has had on my life. I truly recommend this school to anyone looking for physical fitness that is more than just reps at a gym.-Ed Richards

We LOVE Ancient Ways Martial Arts Academy! My husband, myself and our oldest daughter (age 5) started in August of 2020 and AWMAA has quickly become our home away from home, a second family and a place for our family to grow together and individually. The staff, students and parents are what make this place so very special. Our 2 year old counts down the days until she can be a Wee Warrior. Now my feelings have not always been love for AWMAA, after my first class I swore I was NEVER going back its great that hubby and kid like it but it is NOT for me. I actually had tears in my eyes after the first class. I went home calmed down and decided to give it another try (plus l had already committed to a year), so next class I go expecting to hate it again but I thought at least its a work out. Well, by the end of that class I had made friends, worked out, learned a self defense move (that requires lots of practice to make a natural reaction) and was surprisingly happy. Now Im about to be a green senior, and cant wait to earn my black belt (and beyond). To all the AWMAA staff, students and parents thanks for being AWESOME and welcoming us to your tribe.

I figured, Im not doing anything else and talked myself into checking it out.1st day, I almost chose not to go. Im so overjoyed that I went. The entire staff and every student is very welcoming. The 1st class still had me wondering if this was for me. By the end of my 2nd class I felt that I had made the right decision. I just finished my 5th class tonight and I know I made the right decision. I now feel like I have a goal and am part of something bigger than me. They took me through the whole warmup and then a kicking routine: front snap, double round, etc. They even made me bow when entering the room. At 4 and 6 years old, my two daughters have already gained so much confidence from their experiences at Ancient Ways over the past year. My wife and I could not be more pleased with the instruction and consistent message about high character and the many life lessons that they are learning each session.Last week, Mr. Jeremy gave a great message at the end of class about when the kids can and should use their martial arts when outside the dojo. We appreciate those messages that reinforce the messages we are trying to teach at home as well. Excellent conversation piece and connection on our drives home. Thanks for what you do!--Pete P.

I was not happy with my brief experience with Ancient Way Karate studio. I was looking for an activity for my child to do after school. The man at the desk told me they do not do this which was fine, but as I was leaving he was very snotty and told me that any karate studio that does an after school program is not a babysitter. I was very annoyed by his tone of voice and need to say this as I was on my way out of his building. He seems to have assumed that because I have a young look about me that my child was of a very young age needing a daycare or a babysitter. When in fact my children range from the oldest being 18 years old in the 12th grade to the youngest at 10 years old in 5th grade. I dont generally write reviews good or bad however I was very upset with his assumption and tone of voice to me.
