Great selection of rods, fly-tying supplies, and gear. Could stand to use a womens clothing section.
Me and a buddy spent 4 days in Bozeman to do some fly fishing and decided to visit this store based on a recommendation from a youtube video. I am incredibly grateful that we did because these guys are the sole reason that we walked away from Montana with lifetime memories. Everyone at the shop was great, but our guide (Nick) and a younger tall blonde gentleman (who’s name unfortunately escapes my memory) were exceptionally helpful. We are indebted to Nick for not only helping us plan where we should fish, but also he improved our fly fishing so much in just one guided session. If you are planning a trip out here do not second guess coming here. Thank you guys for everything. If/when we come back, these are the only guys who are getting my business.
Took a friend from out of town there at 3:15 pm recently. He needed a license and some supplies. Three young guys were standing at the counter talking. They asked what we needed. When we told them we needed a license, they said, “actually, we just shut our system down. The gas station should have them.” At 3:15 in the afternoon.
Good idea to stop here even if you arent using their guide service. Didnt ask for advice from them but they were happy to hear what had worked for me.
The most incredible fishing experience of our lives. My son had never caught a fish on a fly rod and I hadn’t caught many. We wanted to learn so we booked a full day fly fishing trip with Fins & Feathers. By the end of the day we both had caught dozens and missed 10 times as many (still learning!) So exciting to watch the fish snatch the flies off the surface! At the end of the day my son proclaimed it was the best fishing trip he’s ever been on, and I have to agree. Our guide, Will Allen, was the key to our experience and everything we could have hoped for. We were fly casting novices when we arrived and with Will’s gentle but quick instruction, we became adequate casters and comfortable with various techniques Will taught us. Will is a master at controlling his boat, putting us in the perfect drift time after time even in a stiff breeze. Because of Will’s easy going and fun personality, we quickly became friends, fishing like buddies, and had a hoot all day long, laughing and ribbing each other over our gaffs and goofs. I highly recommend Fins and Feathers for their service, and Will Allen for making a float down a river into the most memorable trip of a lifetime.
I took a class with Tegan. He did an outstanding job teaching us about fly fishing.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first fly fishing trip. Our guide, Ryan, was very patient with two rookie fly fishers and did an excellent job of giving us pre-fishing instructions and guidance during the trip. Even though we only caught one fish, Ryan did his best but due to the extremely high winds, it was a difficult job. Well be back and hopefully it wont be as windy. Beautiful scenery and awesome experience.
This was our 4th annual trip to Bozeman and Fin and Feathers. Each year gets better and better! My friend and I did 4 different floats with Toby and had an amazing time.Toby certainly put us on a lot of fish. We caught a lot of very nice fish. He has a gift of knowing where the fish are and knows the rivers like the back of his hand. The best part, however, was the comradery in the boat. The 3 of us totally enjoyed being together with a lot of laughter as well as great conversation (when the fish did not interrupt.) Toby is a very interesting person and a people person who likes to get to know you.I would highly recommend Toby and his Fin and Feathers shop!Thank you Toby!
Great selection! Friendly employees!
Great down to earth fly shop. They dont push the most expensive products just because they can and will happily just chat about fishing. There is no sense of any of the employees being elitist or above anyone who comes in. Well stocked and very knowledgeable. Fun place to stop in and or purchase any necessities before heading out.
We certainly didnt get the staff member who received the 5 star reviews.Previously I bought a Tenkara rod and gift certificate for the line and accessories from them and was waited on by a person who was very helpful . When the recipient of the rod and gitft certificate went in to get the line and other tackle he was waited on by an uninterested clerk who didnt seem to know what kind of line or tackle went with the rod and was unwilling to show him anything about the rod. Very disappointed as the previous person who had sold me the rod was most helpful and we were looking forward to learning all about Tenkara poles.
Very friendly and helpful folks and average prices. Cannot speak to guided trips but they are also very helpful for fly tying materials as well as tips and tricks for your flies. I respect any shop with folks who are happy to help you learn to tie rather than force flies down your throat for $4 per fly.
Jake did his best to get my 15 yr old, first time fly fishing daughter, and I into fish on a cold and very windy winter day. He even took us to a sheltered location on the Gallitan and worked patiently with her on casting skills. Lunch was plentiful, and beside a fire he built for her to warm by. A good day....
The shop is somewhat small but contains a lot. Its well organized and the staff is more than happy to help you find what you need. They dont just talk fishing, they want to know where you are going fishing so they can help you with fly selection. The fly selection is ample but clothing and equipment ranks are shallow. If you are there at all close to meal time, walk across the parking lot to Mama Macs and get some food, you wont regret it. Support your local fly shops (or the ones near where you are going fishing)
Great place! Employees were so helpful.
Went out with Jake a few days ago and it was nothing short of fantastic! Jake was great, he not only consistently put us on fish, he was extremely patient and a great coach. I would highly recommend Fins and Feathers, especially Jake. I will 100% book them again when I travel back to Montana.
Very friendly staff!
Store: Friendly staff, tons of fly selection well stocked, and ACTUAL items of more than one type/brand of womens clothing, wading boots, etc.Package: Booked online for 2 full days on the water with local accommodations (The Lark). Great location for a variety of foods and some evening shopping off the water and no issues with the booking arrangements. Really smooth, thanks Toby.Guide: MIKE LANZARINI ... with both a rain and a shine day, definitely knew which waters to hit. Listen to him and hell let you know what works, after that you just have to be fast enough for these big MT trout! (Ill be back Mike, and Ill be faster!)
I loved my time in this store. I came in for a small case for a specific trip, and the guys were great about letting me meander and enjoy the merchandise in addition to having a fantastic selection of what I was looking for in stock! They have so many pretty colors of the Hatch reels it was hard not to walk out with one.
I recently made a purchase online for shipping. I emailed after placing the order and the staff responded in less than a couple of hours answering my question. I received the item in the time frame expected and it was well packed. Recommend!
Spent 3 wonderful days on the Mighty MO fly fishing out of Craig, MT with Toby Swank! The weather was a bit windy and cool but the fishing was great - lots of rainbow and brown trout along with a few very large whitefish! Toby is an excellent guide and works very hard to get into the fish. Highly recommend booking a trip through Fins and Feathers of Bozeman!
Absolutely the best fly shop in the valley. Been shopping with Toby, Jim, Charlie and the gang for over a decade. They are truly ambassadors of the sport, and they look to engage all experience levels. Great fly selection, and all the tying materials you can dream of.
My boyfriend and I went with Tony. It was our first time fly fishing and Tony did an awesome job teaching us the basics and put us on a lot of fish. Thanks for the awesome experience!
Great shop, Ive been shopping there since I moved to Bozeman 16 years ago. The staff have a great balance between being fish heads and being professional in the shop. Best stop for tying materials in the Gallatin Valley.
Absolutely fantastic. I was there in early June 2012, right after the mountains around Bozeman had a foot-plus of new snow. Even Bozeman had snow that weekend! Regardless, Paul, my guide, was a master. We were on the Madison for an awesomely-long half-day float that was filled with at least eight fish in the boat, plus I had another four-five fish on, and missed who knows how many strikes. Simply amazing; we had some shore time as well. The float itself was gorgeous; great views, a bluebird day. Paul was fantastic, offering up a bunch of tips, insight, and a good history of the place. Would HIGHLY recommend.
Fins and Feathers is BY FAR the best fly shop in the surrounding bozeman area. The staff has such a plethora of knowledge regarding productive waters and hot flies, but most of all, they go the extra mile to make sure you have success on the water. We are lucky to have a shop with such knowledge and variety.
Very friendly staff, gave me two stickers for my RV. And they even watch the Google review, what great guys. Thanks so much for the sticker, I have then on my RV already. Below is a photo of the sticker on my RV.
Great selection, fun atmosphere. They set up our trip for a great price and made sure we were 100% satisfied. We picked water that would be perfect for the weather each day and headed out for a new adventure. Toby had all the right gear to keep large fish coming into the boat from the put-in to the take-out. We learned from his expertise as we tried all the different rigs he recommended for each situation. Wish I could have stayed three more days, and probably would have never come home if I stayed that long!!
Great staff and inventory. No competition from surrounding fly shops. Most welcoming fly shop in four corners.
I stop every summer. Rons advice on a Sage rod was dead on. His knowledge of flies helped me in the park. Sam, PA
Stopped to pickup fishing license and received wonderful service. Great knowledge of local fishing locations and recommended lures.
I have been guided and misguided many times over in many different places. Toby and his staff are friendly, helpful and very, very fishy. Whether it is taking my 8 year old on his first drift on the Yellowstone or a 3 day adventure to the Beaverhead and other unnamed places, the F&F will make your day memorable and enjoyable. The shop has everything you would want or need, and some things you wont. Great shop and awesome people makes it a very special place.
I have lived in the Gallatin Valley for almost 20 years now, and this is my go to fly shop, not only to pick up flies, but also if Im just striving for some advice. All the staff is super friendly, and prices are very reasonable, compared to most. Being a college kid, the student discounts they give helps a lot!
Always the best in Bozeman. Staff is knowledgeable and accommodating.
We just finished a guided trip with Fins and Feather in April 2015 and had a fantastic experience all around. Our guide, Charlie, was outstanding and we couldnt have been happier with him. This was my wifes first time fly fishing and he took the time to work with her both before we hit the water and throughout the course of the day. Charlie was incredibly patient and his helpfulness is what made the trip so exceptional. We opted for the all-inclusive package from Fin and Feather and the equipment was top notch. The provided lunch was great and couldnt be happier on that front as well. The weather wasnt the greatest, but we still landed plenty of fish and made memories that will last a lifetime.
Good service. Not a fly snooty shop. Prices are the same as other shops
Ive dealt with a lot of fly shops & for the most part have had great experiences & have developed good rapport over time, however my experience was Fins & Feathers was the WORST I have ever had. The J...@$$ (Toby Swank) that owns this Business is the most grumpy & stuck-up person I’ve dealt with. I called a week ago, expressing interest in purchasing some equipment for our Fishing Club that was in excess of $500+ (some of which was on clearance, some on items were listed on an action site &some on their website.) He wouldn’t sell them outright and insisted that I would have to wait or just buy the items separately wherever they were listed (which is a waste of time) instead of buying them in one go as it takes only a few clicks to put an order together. Left with no choice, I went ahead with his recommendation and ended up winning 2 reels in an Auction. I paid for one of them and after an hour or so ended up winning the other reel as well. So I called back and asked if they could combine shipping so I wouldn’t have to pay the outrageous amount of $15 to ship a reel (x3 times the actual cost) My request was denied because I was told that he first reel that I purchased an hour earlier already shipped? The owner was EXTREMLY rude and wasn’t willing to adjust the shipping cost or even cancel the order & made a BIG ordeal out of it. Normally in such instances customer service is to offer options or any assistance to smoothen the transaction, but that does not exist in their neck of the woods. Through out the call he seemed flustered, Irate and was gasping. Towards the end of the call, I was told not to buy from his shop again, which I gladly will not. There are PLENTYof shops out there that would appreciate my business than some mom & pop shop in the middle of nowhere.Good luck Mr. Swank… I give a few months at the most year before your amazing attitude will lead you to go out of business!!!
My favorite shop in Bozeman. Knowledgeable and courteous staff. Best fly tying selection in town. A+
A super selection of hooks for tying, great fly selection and advice from guys and gals who fish local waters and super off-season clearance sales in the fall
Fourth trip in 8 years fishing with Toby! Great guide! Spoils us every time and makes other guides seem like they are on just a 9-5 job!We will be back again and again until he retires!!! And then more!
Had a great selection of fly fishing equipment and tackle for all trout fishing needs.
Very nice shop, very good fly selection. Very friendly staff.
Great shop! Super knowledgeable folks in there
When I was shopping in this store I asked for help from an employee, and he said he would be right over. I guess the conversation with his co-worker about last weekend was more important than helping a customer. The fly shop to visit in Bozeman is The Bozeman Angler
Very nice staff here and has lots of unique flies
Been going to this shop for a couple of years now, most down to earth staff and great selection of gear and flies.
Good fly shop to stop by if you’re fishing the gallatin.
Really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good selection of flies and fly tying materials.
Every was good about our trip our guide Jake was good also
Knowledgeable and friendly with a big selection of flies.
Great customer service, knowledgeable staff and high quality products! I stop by whenever I am headed to the river!
Best shop in Gallatin County. Actual fly shop, not a clothing store.
Friendly and knowledgeable. Thats what you want when you are passing through to your fishing spot.
Great selection of flies and fishing equipment
Excited service great advice
My favorite place for fishing supplies! Toby, Steven and Yankee Jim are always willing to listen to you and give friendly advice.
Best shop in Bozeman.
Purchased my husband a Patagonia fly fishing shirt here, it was a tad expensive but he loved it!
Great folks, good prices
