I am a muslim girl who wears hijab. They were extra helpful to make sure that my hair is covered infront of any guy. I LOVED their service! Also loved my hair cut. This is my go to place whenever i need a hair cut from now on.

Ashley is amazing . we love the HBE. They have several amazing stylists if Ashley isnt available. Rula, Denise, Liz and Joe. Kristen and Mary are great with nails.

Joe was awesome. Went in not really knowing how I wanted to style my hair, and left highly impressed. Would recommend for anyone. Very friendly staff and very cleanly.

This is the best place to get your hair cut!!! It’s the only place I have found in DC area which I love. Liz is great, she is great at getting the hair cut and style you want and makes excellent suggestions. Also her whole team is super friendly. I have curly hair which is difficult to manage and she does a great job. I will always come here for my hair needs. Lastly, just in case you feel they weren’t perfect enough, they also have complimentary beverages including wine and pastries.As for some of the reviews stating that they are not nice to people of color is completely false. I have never experienced that by anyone in the staff nor have I seen anyone get discriminated. Quite the opposite.

Rula is fantastic and knows exactly how to make me feel like a new women from cut to color!! She has been caring for my hair now for several years and I give her info out to all my friends!! You will love ❤️ her!!

My first time at Hair by Ell I had a wonderful experience my hair is gray and brassy they suggested I use purple shampoo to wash the brassy color out and it worked . I also had a hair cut I am so very happy with my haircut and color of my hair. Thank you so much.

Rula, my hairdresser/stylist, is the best around. She is very talented. My hair always looks great when she finishes coloring, cutting and styling it. I highly recommend Rula. She is very skilled and highly professional as well as very friendly and outgoing.

Very disappointed, as soon as I walked in, being the person of color that I am made me stand out, honestly speaking, if your not white, or look rich, dont come in here, they made me wait past my appointment with no explanation, I didnt mind the wait till I saw that someone who had arrived after me was taken care of, as soon as she stepped foot in their, they probably thought I wouldnt be able to afford the cut but they where completely wrong. The first time I went, I went to a stylist who bragged about how many clients she had, that she was always booked and wasnt a stylist whos scissor happy. Thats great, but I had as many split-ends as I came in with and still paid for a haircut when there was virtually no difference between my before and after.Then I went to Ashley, she was SO sweet but sadly trashed my healthy hair. For months I wondered why my hair was so dry and tangly when it had never been that way before, I went to a new hairdresser at a much better salon who has had TONS of experience with color and she said that you could tell she didnt know what she was doing. My hair was beyond bleached and she started the highlights about 1/2 inch from the root of my hair. Also, the haircut was probably one of the worse Ive gotten. My hair was so choppy and unless my hair laid exactly right, between the color and the cut, I had the dreaded zebra stripes no one ever wants.The only reason Im giving this place two stars is because the staff is SO nice. Unfortunately, I just dont think the services there are worth your money, there are so many better places in this area!

Do not step foot in here if your not white, or look rich, they did not consider me, and had me waiting way past my appointment thinking I would not pay or something, people were coming in after me with appointments after me and getting helped before me, maybe they know how to cut hair, Ill just never know.
