This was the best trolley tour I’ve ever been on. Lisbon, our trolley driver, was absolutely amazing!!!!! He made it so much fun. He was knowledgeable, personable, and made the time pass so quickly! The tour hit every historic landmark and gave great photo opps while we were able to stay dry. We will definitely be back. Thank you.
The best sightseeing tour I’ve ever experienced. Been traveling a lot, but Old Town Trolley drivers are so happy and knowledgeable about Boston and surroundings. Got picked up by Seaport in the morning and I also had a Harbor cruise in my gold pass ticket. Great choice for a day or 2. I got off and on like 3 times. (USS Constitution, Old State House, Boston Common). I will definitely recommend it to my friends.
I highly recommend Old Town Trolley as a tour of Boston, but also as transportation for the day. It brings you all over town. The hop on and off aspect is perfect! Their sales people were super informative, help AND nice! The tour guides were equally as nice and professional. Its a must do!
We chose a 2-day platinum pass for our visit to Boston in July 2021. The trolley tours are a great way to see all of the highlights of the area. I recommend going at least twice for the same route since you get a different twist on the tour depending on who your driver is. We loved Uncle Pete and Bear - they were both informative and fun to listen to. We even learned to speak Boston from Bear.
This is an excellent hop on/off trolley tour with convenient stops all over Boston! Its well worth the ticket price. The tour guides are both funny and informative and have a lot of Boston fun facts and history to share. We epspecially appreciated our tour guide/driver, Lisbon!
From the hop-on/hop-off service to the Ghost tours - Old Town Trolley Tours of Boston is the best! We would totally book them again when visiting Boston. The ghost/cemetery tour was so much fun and we learned a lot. The workers are truly committed to giving you one of the best theatrical experiences in Boston. I would totally recommend giving any of their tours a try but especially the ghost tour.
Hop on off can be bad. Or they can be great. This one is great. The guides are interesting some funny some serious but all care and love their job. The tour is perfect for seeing all of Boston and really identifying things you want to see and do the most. They are all super nice and professional. Would give it a higher rating if I could. Its the definition of an extra credit place.
Rode with Crafty and Captain Matty. Absolutely fantastic. Incredible stories you just don’t learn in school. Both conductors greeted me very warmly. Made the whole trolley feel welcome. Both conductors told incredible, and often hilarious, stories. Both conductors made me feel very safe on board with their incredible driving through a city filled with illegally parked cars, people jaywalking across roads, and so much construction that took out a few stops. Yet neither of the 2 skipped a beat. These me ought to be commended for how they handle the streets of Boston, and I for one will be back on Old Town Trolley in the other cities too!
Great hop on-hop off type tour bus. Tour guides were very informative and helpful. Out of the three bus drivers Gonzo was by far the best tour guide. He really made it interesting and funny! The buses were easy to get on and was a comfortable ride. Sitting on the top level by the window you could see nearly everything. If it’s your first time in Boston don’t drive, ride!
This was an extremely efficient and entertaining way to see Boston! This is what we needed since we only had one full day in the city. What made it really special though was our guide Sean, who deserves a pay raise and a promotion. He answered every question, engaged with us, provided a ton of information about the history of Boston in an entertaining way, all while expertly navigating the intense traffic and construction.
Every driver give a little different take on the history of Boston. Making the ride interesting and fun. So no matter how much you hop on and off one is entertained.
I wasnt planning to take a trolley but I hurt my hip and couldnt walk a lot. This was a great time. The guides shared useful information and the tops were close enough to the action to make it easy. Would recommend as a way to get around.
This was a great way to get around to see the sites in Boston. Each of the drives we met were knowledgeable and entertaining.
We did the Ghost tour that was highly entertaining. The guides were hilarious and the terrible puns cracked us up every time. Price was reasonable for the entertainment and history they provide. I would highly recommend doing the ghost tour at night if possible, you’ll understand afterwards. It was a great time!
I would give 6 stars if I could. I had NO interest in riding the trolley tour, as I was only in Boston on a 9-hour layover. But over by Cheers taking a selfie, the trolley showed up, and “Captain Matty” opened the door, asked if I was coming to have a good time! His southern charm IMMEDIATELY won me over. I told him I didn’t have a ticket. He said not to worry! He knew a spot to get it and would give me a few stops on the house! People were yelling out the window “DO IT! THIS GUYS AMAZING!” I hopped on, and I NEVER hopped off, except to get my ticket, because he was SO MUCH FUN!!! Fantastic sales representative named Andrew got me my ticket, which was so easy and super convenient, and Matty even waited for me to come back! As he said “they always come back for the captain.” And boy did I ever!!! I can’t believe I got “picked up” in Boston, but I’m SO glad I did. Captain Matty gave an unbelievable tour. I loved every second, and to hear his stories, the people falling out of their seats laughing, and the passion behind his storytelling, DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR IN BOSTON!!!
We loved it!! A great way to see Boston in a day. The drivers kept it entertaining the whole time, and we learned a lot! There’s a parking garage right near stop 13, Boston commons parking garage. We didn’t have to walk much at all. We thought we’d get off the trolley more than we did, but we saw so much on the ride we didn’t feel the need! Well worth it.
We spent 2 days in Boston. July 3-4 2021. I am doing 2 reviews. This is regarding the rude driver Welby of our Trolley July 4. We had been on several over the 2 days. After spending close to 350.00 for our tickets for our family of 5 we were totally offended when Welby stops the trolley to tell me that he couldn’t compete with my 3 year old and if she couldn’t be quiet we would have to get off his trolley. I understand if she was the only one making noise but the people behind me that were translating were way louder. I was so embarrassed. He even told my daughter she would have to be quiet. If she was yelling or crying I could have understood but this was totally rude and unacceptable! She was just talking to me. Trolly service overall was great. We had a great driver named Hercules and another named Deviline that was nice too. Welby wins the award for jerk of the day!!
Such a great tour. Best way to see Boston hands down
The guides were knowledgeable and friendly for the most part. Only issue was that the buses were very crowded and it was nearly impossible to get on at the later stops. I think they added more buses later in the day, and it got better. But we ended up getting off halfway thru. But they do a good job showing some of the interesting spots in the city.
Really enjoyed the hop on hop off tour and harbor cruise combo. Our drivers Laurent and Crafty were both fun and informative!
Took the tour with Sean and didn’t even wanna get off at the stops because he was so awesome. This other dude rick totally sucked though. 5 stars
Tour guides had great personalities and were full of knowledge. We were entertained AND educated! The hop on and off feature allowed us to explore the city all afternoon.
Waited 25 minutes for a bus then when we got to the first stop we were kicked off and had to wait even more for other full buses to load and unload people, honestly the only good part were driver suggestions and that the bus wasn’t broken. 2 starsEdit: Foxtrot was the best driver and highlight of my rides. 3 stars, very punny
Uncle Steve was unprofessional and inappropriate. We boarded the trolley and sat in the first set by the door. Uncle Steve boarded and sat in the drivers seat and turned to us and asked why we were wearing masks and if we were vaccinated ( which none of his business). Uncle Steve then proceeded to spew CDC misinformation about masks and said “ Be brave, take it off”. He then proceeded to lean towards us and COUGH twice in our direction. We were taken back and my only response was to say to him “That was ugly”. Needless to say we immediately got off at the next stop, with concern about riding again. Three other drivers that day were very informative and friendly, I will not use their names of those drivers as it would an insult for them to be associated with Uncle Steve. Still can not believe this happened. Very disturbing and worrying if he passed something to us.
It was okay once we figured out where they were. Spent 3 hrs trying to figure out where they were located and the trolley stops. They are not well marked at all. The map doesnt describe or give a good location of their trolley signs. Also they signs are very small and unrecognizable.
This was my first time to visit Boston, and during our visit it was exceptional. The views, history, and the trolly tour! I would like to point out out first driver Gordie, he was fantastic, very kind, and funny. Gordie you absolutely made my day, thank you so much for everything, and for a wonderful afternoon on your trolly. I would love to visit with you again on our next trip to Boston! Thank you!!
Great way to get around Boston and you also get a history of the city from the trolley driver. You can get off and back on throughout the route. Highly recommend!
Can’t hear what he is talking, the speaker seems not working so great for back rows
Always use this tour service when in a city that its available. For the most park drivers are knowledgeable. They could use an upgrade on speakers, unless driver had a deep, clear voice they were difficult to hear. But all and ill great way to get to know Boston.
Very convenient way to take a trip around the city. You can hop off anywhere you want to and hop back on the next one, every 15 minutes. Reasonably priced and courteous staff.
We have been in Boston for two days and have been utterly disappointed by the Old Town Trolley Service. Despite visiting during the busy season of April through September, when they state more trolleys will be running, we consistently waited excessively for trolleys, 45 - 60 minutes. On each occasion we tried to hop on, the trolleys were full on the first attempt, which brought our wait times near an hour. Finally, thinking these experiences were anomalies, due to other good reviews, we made one last attempt to use the trolleys. This time, after waiting another 60 minutes for trolleys that were available, we were again told there was not enough room, which forced us to have to walk to our destination rendering our trolley tour tickets with little value. With so many other options available for tours in Boston and other cities, I would recommend not using Old Town Trolley Tours anywhere.
We ride old town trolley tours each time we come to Boston for a visit. Each driver has their own spin on the sites we pass on our tour. We have found a very enjoyable and a fun way to get your bearings around the city you’re visiting
Had a great tour with Crafty today. He was knowledgeable and seemed to really love his City!!
I like because tour visit the main important places and driver bus explain very well with sound effects was great.
It was a dark and stormy night, literally. We took the latest tour available which made the graveyard visits more fun. Enjoy the tour for what it is, listen to the gruesome stories and youll have a great time.
Our bus driver, Johnny Boston was SOOO funny! Had good knowledge of the area.
Very charismatic and knowledgeable tour guides. Worth the trip.
Nice way to see city... driver was very knowledgeable. If youre just wanting to see Bostons historic sites, you might want to walk the Freedom Trail. But to see more of Boston this is definitely a great way to go.The drivers were very knowledgeable, humorous and very polite. Each of them had some different additional knowledge than the other about the town, history and sites. This is a great way to get around town and let to most places you may want to go without the hassle of driving and parking yourself.Drivers were a great wealth of knowledge. You get your moneys worth if you get on and off. Parking in the city of Boston cost $30 plus. Drivers were highly entertaining. Stops throughout the city made touring Boston extremely easy and convenient. waiting time was not that much, even while waiting, you can admire beauty if this old town.We got a lot of tips on sites to see; and, places to visit. The trolley was basically a bus, with vinyl windows, which leaked cold air. But, we were fairly comfortable.Great tour. Recommended...
Hazaa! Magoo was great. I went around town telling everyone to ask for his bus. Hes a true Bostonian with a tuff exterior and a heart of gold.
We found a trolley stop but no prices were listed. We went to ask a driver about how it worked and he said just hop on and well take care of you at another stop. We were surprised about an hour & many stops later to find out it was $46 a person. We thought that seemed a little bit expensive. He dropped us off at the end to pay. At that point we were given an out-of-date map. I mean the stops were the same but it said the deals that you would have got in 2018. It mentioned that we should have gotten about $50 worth of coupons so that we could have gotten off at stops and gone to museums at a discount or for free. We did not get any coupon books and we did not find out that it was an option until we already finished the day and paid and left and were looking at the map. I would do this again but I would strongly recommend starting at a stop where you can pay and getting all of the information up front. If you got on in the morning and got off at each stop and visited things you could spend an entire day doing this! It is a great deal of fun but a little more communication up front would have been helpful and actually getting what we were supposed to would have been terrific too.
Wonderful way to explore Boston at your own pace. The tour itself lasts just a couple of hours if you stay on the bus but you may want to spread it over two days as there is just so much to see and lots of individual tours available at many of the stops. The same company runs the Boston tea Party tour which I would also highly recommend which at the time of writing was at stop 16.
Excellent tour, stopped at multiple places and did some exploration, and got right back on. Well worth the money.
This was an excellent tour! We used this as our way to reach several points of interest and we also rode the whole route so we could see/hear the whole thing.
Quint was our driver. He was funny, knowledgeable and entertaining. He seemed to really enjoy giving tours, it didnt seem like a chore to him.It was great to see so much of the city and learn its rich history, while resting our feet from some of the walking we did.
All the tour drivers give you lots of info and are very entertaining.
Great tour! Loved all of the trolley drivers. Informative and humorous.
Great way to see the city... best tour guides Ever!
Rocky was very knowledgeable and everyone was great with helping mom mom in her wheelchair. We will be back!!
Very informative and funny tour.easy to get on and off.We were with three different guides and all were great
Rode with Uncle Steve, JD, Steve-O, and New York who were all fantastic guides with an absolute wealth of knowledge. Also did the Ghosts and Gravestones tour. Both are a must for the history/Boston lover as they do a great job of blending historical stories with some modern things of what to see and do like the Converse factory.
Easy process. Great tour guides. Fun intro to Boston.
Thank you Uncle Steve for such a great experience. We will remember this tour and experience.
Not worth the RideBetter tocall uBer
The Ghost and haunted tour in the evening was absolutely superb. The guides all acting their part, the Irish guide in particular was hilarious. We took the normal daytime tour with guide Devlin who skillfully operated the bus whilst constantly giving historical information about Boston in a humourous fashion.
We loved this trolley tour the tour guide new his Boston history. We went to some great places and seen some really cool things. We had a really fun time
Great guides, particularly Uncle Steve and Lisbon !
Love the tour. Hopped off several times and walked to different stops or places nearby. Narration was great and included plenty of history and information with a joke now and again. Overall impressed. I dislike their mobile ticket though. I had no printer access so I utilized it, which involves keeping a browser tab open to display the ticket when you board. You cannot screenshot.. because you need a blinking arrow. Once, I couldn’t get the arrow to blink and was afraid I was going to be stranded, but thankfully they worked with me. Still five stars though, because it was that great overall. Worth it.
Informative and interesting tour of Boston. There is so much to see that this trolley doesnt really take it all in. I wish it had gone by Fenway Park but only got near that. It is convenient that you can get on and off anytime you want at the designated stops. The real accolades should go to the person who drives the trolley because streets and Boston are very narrow and extremely difficult to navigate through. Boston has an odd mix of the really old and the new so its interesting to see one right by the other throughout the tour. Its a bit pricey at $86 for two people, but versus trying to drive thru Boston... a much better alternative..
Weve done Old Town tours in St. Augustine, Key West, and now Boston. This is a fantastic way to get a quick tour of the location, tons of facts and history, and decide where you want to explore in depth.
Ive taken hop on hop off bus tours all across the world. What the customer wants is to get a feel of the best spots, some humour, unique facts and to decide where to get off and explore.OTT while generally good was to technical in their descriptions. Their accent difficult for Asians to follow and only a love commentary option. (No headphones). For a wider appeal do consider speakers who speak slowly, pitch the content based on the audience (I know which is vagrant) and have a headphones option. The map was unnecessarily commercial and for the first timer honestly bewildering. Simplify please.
Amazing value if you are going to be traveling around Boston. The tour itself is extremely informative worth the initial price alone. You wait (at most 15 minutes), Ive used them twice 4 years ago and today and longest I waited was 5 minutes. Drivers and personnel are super informative and can help guide your visit if you are on the fence about certain destinations. You can combine this with other attractions to save even more money. (Currently they offer discounted admission to a number of locations and free entry into the Wax Museum and Old State House). Id recommend it for locals and visitors.
There are two separate trolley routes included in the same ticket. That is 2 hours one tour and another hour on the second route. There are lots of stops. You can spread your tour into 2 days but explain the need so that the sales person puts a note on your tickets. They dont have recorded tour guide and earphones. Driver/guides are humorous and make an effort to interact with the travellers. Its a pleasant journey overall, definitely recommended. If you buy harbour boat tour and trolley tour together you save a lot.
Devlin was a great entertaining tour guide!
Loved the tour. It was super convenient
Driver was very personable. Loved stopping at the ‘Cheers’ location. Would have liked to see more of the city with this tour.
You could not hear the drivers narrations Over the street noise and trolley noise, he was not engaging And the windows of the trolley were filthy so you couldnt see the sites either. Do yourself a favor and go on the duck tour! 100 % better!
Our tour guide was great, but we were in Boston in November so were not able to get on and off the trolley to see things. The trolley was too large to go down many of the side streets where there were things we would have liked to have seen. The one stop at the Cheers Bar was meh. The Bar was so small and crowded that we decided to pass. It definitely wasnt worth the cost of the tour.
This has a a good way to see a lot of historian sights quickly, but although it is labeled as hop on hop off, you can only get on at the he start at the warf, and there are s only on stop at Cheers.
Approximately 2h round trip will take you through the whole city and its major sightseeings location. Overpriced (46USD, even if it includes entrances to 2 other museums) and it’s often very difficult to understand the narrator as there are no headphones. It’s also heavily focused on US tourists so as foreign tourists we often felt left out of the “joke”. Overall not recommended.
The tour guides really make the tour. They add their special flare to the experience.
Were in Boston visiting from California and decided to take the Old Trolley Tour unfortunately it was raining but we decided to go with it anyway. It was really waste of money. Nobody inside the bus were able to see out the windows because they were fogged inside and rain outside making it impossible to see through. During rainy days, these tours should be canceled because you basically pay them to ride around the city and listen to the driver narrate the history of the city which you can probably get for free on the internet. This was very disappointing and I feel I just lost $95. Totally a waste of time.
We took the one day tour of Boston and thought the experience was great. Getting on and off we got to ride with several different guides and all were knowledgeable and made the tour interesting. We also did the add-on harbor cruise which I highly recommend, it was well worth the small additional cost.
Went on all 3 tours: city tour, boston tea party, and ghost tour. The guides are hilarious. Everyone was COVID compliant by wearing masks the whole time and the buses are open and well-ventilated. Learned a lot of fun facts. The ghost tour was especially fun.
Tour guide was great! Disappointed that its not hop on/off all day due to COVID I guess. Only 1 stop off at Cheers.
The service would’ve been much better if they had not falsely advertised. The majority of the locations they took us to were closed, due to the simple fact that it was a Monday. Furthermore, most of the tour guides did not inform anyone when they would get off the trolley that the sites at that stop were closed. On top of that, often you would have to wait for a trolley, instead of being able to enjoy whatever area you were in.....just to find out that the trolley was full. The you’d have to practically run to another stop in order to find a seat. The service was SIGNIFICANTLY too expensive for its value. Wish I could get my money back. Would not recommend!
We bought one-day passes online and took the subway to downtown Boston from Cambridge so we could get our tickets and start the tour at Stop #1. When we arrived there at 9:30 AM nobody was waiting for the trolley so we decided to tour the nearby sights. Big mistake! We returned to stop #1 around 10:30 to find a queue of about 30-40 people waiting for the next trolley. Unfortunately it was raining hard, so when a trolley finally showed up 15 minutes later, nobody wanted to disembark into the pouring rain. When it was obvious we couldnt board the trolley we decided to bail and head to the JFK Presidential Library via subway. The weather improved by mid-afternoon, but with only 2 hours left before the trolleys stopped running for the day, we feared not getting full value from our $89 tickets. I called Old Town and was very happy to hear the tickets are valid for one year from purchase date. (This isnt noted on the tickets or on the voucher.)The next day we decided to avoid a possible crowd at stop #1 and instead we went to stop #6 at 400 Main in Cambridge. We looked for a green & orange sign with a no. 6 emblazoned on it, but couldnt find one so I again called Old Town to ask where exactly do we catch the trolley. The nice lady told us to stand across the street from Legal Seafood. Later, after we were on the trolley, the driver pointed out that all of the stops are discreetly marked with an orange band wrapped around municipal traffic or parking signs. This important information needs to be printed on the ticket! If not for the issues that we encountered getting started on the tour, I would have awarded 5 stars.
Great guided tour of Boston, only $45 dollars this time of year and you get a second day free and loads of free or reduced entry to attractions on the route. We had Bill as our first driver, he was really fun, animated and enthusiastic. Loads of fun to listen to. New York picked us up at MIT later in the day, also very knowledgeable and a pleasure to listen to.
Had a great time visiting Boston . The tour was Covid safe and it was a great way to see Boston . I definitely recommend all the staff was very attentive and curtíos.
My wife and I spent a day of our honeymoon in Boston and this was a great experience! The trolly runs often and all the drivers are friendly and know a lot about the city. Would recommend for all tourists! Very easy way to see a lot without getting lost or spending a lot of money.
If you only have a day, and want to cover the most of Boston, this would be what you want to do . Buses every fifteen minutes with good guides . covers almost the entire downtown Boston . You can hop off at one point, see that place in detail and then catch the next bus that comes that way . Informative maps are also provided .You will also get a discounted ticket for a cruise, which enables you to see the historic city and its harbours from the water as well.
Great tour, very informative guide. Just a wonderful time.
Awful experience with customer service........ Me and my girlfriend arrived at one of the trolley stops to see if we were able to bring our dog on the trolley after explaining to one of the drivers and one of the workers that sells the tickets that it was an emotional support dog and showing the papers to the two workers they said it was okay and we can bring her along so we purchased two tickets after we got the confirmation that we were good to go. We waited around for the next trolley to come around the driver told us that the dog couldnt go on and the emotional support card didnt mean anything and was being extremely rude after we explained the situation ontop of all that she said she was the manager her name is Sue. Then she told all of the trolley drivers to not let us on any of the trolleys and instructed the lady that told us it was okay to bring the dog on the trolley to refund our money which we are still trying to get back (its extremely difficult to get your money back)!!!! Would not recommend!!!
Fun experience with lots to see and learn
