Topaz House is a great place to stay. Efrem and Bonnie from the management and all the maintenance team have been extremely helpful when we fist settled in and have been available to accommodate our needs in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend Topaz House as a nice place to live, with nice people and very comfortable environment.
I’ve lived here for three years. Overall, I am pleased.Pros: location!! It’s close to Bethesda row, metro, and the older part of Bethesda. Easy commute location. The appliances are really nice. You can tell they aren’t the cheap apartment type of appliances. The space you get in the units is unmatched in the area. The ceilings are high and the windows let in so much natural light. The hallways are (generally) quiet. You don’t hear neighbors. Maintenance is always prompt. The parking is good. The building is secure.Cons: they will raise your rent and parking rent every year. They’ve done this to us TWO times during the pandemic. Just expect that you will not be rewarded for being good tenants who always pay on time, budget for that. The bathrooms need ventilation. They don’t have a fan in them and it’s really annoying because the bathrooms always are too humid and you need to clean the walls monthly (I’m not joking, Maryland humidity here people). BIGGEST CON: They allow smoking indoors, cigarettes and pot. What is this, 1980’s?? Who smokes indoors.
Been living at Topaz House (TH) for almost 3 yrs and loving it! Staff is friendly and responsive. Location is the best, right off the Bethesda metro stop and across from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and School. BCC High School is also right across, which is also our voting site. TH is pet friendly and lobby is being renovated. Theres also 24/7 front desk service and valet. Pool is beautiful and never crowded; gym is great as well. Price is very reasonable for this area, which is very safe at all hours of the day. Everything is within walking distance, Bethesda Downtown, Womens Farmers Market, Starbucks, walking trails, NIH.... We couldnt be happier here!
This review is about the leasing office manager Efrem Kifle and the front desk Leslie. My car wouldnt turn on this morning and the towing company was taking time. I called front desk to ask the details of the parking garage and Leslie wouldnt mind to check if she had a jump starter Efrem went extra step to help me to start my car. He drove up his car and helped me to turn my car on. I was able to drop off my car at the dealership. This was excellent customer service! Efrem is always professional and ready to help the residents any given time. Thank you Efrem and Leslie!
Staff is extremely rude. Leaves nasty notes on packages in the valet. Lied to my face about having contact with employees that could help after work hours. Looking at a newer building near by. If service does not improve I will post the notes they have written to me in my next review.
We moved into the Topaz House in July. We have been so satisfied with everything so far. As four College Students, frantically looking for a place to live, Efrem, and the Leasing Staff provided excellent service and made the Application and Move-In Process go very smoothly. The Owners and Staff are very friendly; we feel right at home.
This is a very nice apartment complex. Like basically every apartment/condo in the Bethesda/DC area, utilities are included. Water is always nice and hot, and the AC/Heat is always consistent and good. The windows seal really well, so if its hot or cold outside it doesnt really effect the apartment. The staff are both friendly, kind, and accommodating. I have only 2 issues: 1. The price for fully furnished, short term rentals is really, really high for a very, very small apartment. and 2. There are added fees (not hidden, but not super obvious) for pets and cars (car rent is a bit high). If I were not buying a place I would definitely stay here for quite some time (if I were staying in a one bedroom, which are a nice size).Bottom line: Great place, great location, great service and amenities, cheaper and comparable options exist, and if youre looking for short term fully furnished there are cheaper options. But, the service was impeccable and I really have enjoyed my four months here.
Living at Topaz was awesome!!! I was in a corporate housing apartment and it was amazing. Everything is taken care of, just bring your suitcase! The amenities of the apt (rooftop with a pool and great seating, gym, lounge with wifi and printer, parking, front desk) were great. Being so close to the metro and walkable to all shopping and errands was amazing! Check this place out!
I could not be happier! My apartment is large with a huge kitchen for an apartment. Topaz is an older building but the apartments are updated, the lobby is gorgeous, the concierge desk is staffed 24/7 and the leasing office, Kerstin and Efrem were fantastic. They, plus Bonnie, the manager did all they could to make my move easy . They treat you well here. You feel appreciated. The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the Metro and downtown Bethesda. The pool is large and there is a separate deck for just hanging out with great views.10/28/2019
It was a very nice place to live but staff is becoming disgruntled.
I had an awful experience with the property manager, Bonnie is extremely unprofessional, as is Efram. Im not sure who would have ever left this woman in charge of anything. Nothing is organized and she has a nasty attitude. Does not treat her tenants like paying clients, instead like she is doing you a favor by DOING HER JOB.
Thank you to the amazing management team! Special thanks to Efrem for his great effort to help us out with the application! Highly recommend this place.
I lived at Topaz House for almost two years and only left because I was moving out of state! I have had the best living experience here. The units are clean and well designed, the staff are super friendly (and will remember your name) and prompt with repairs. And besides all of the big things they do right like being affordable for downtown Bethesda, including utilities in rent and feeling safe...its all about the little things too....They hold your packages so they dont get stolen, they have gas stoves in your kitchen, trash shoots and laundry on every floor, big windows and balconies to let in natural light, there is always someone available at the front desk, AND if you lock yourself out they have a spare key for you to get back in, no charge. I have thoroughly enjoyed living there and if I move back to Bethesda they would be at the top of my list.
This a great place with great, friendly service (which is why it is 4 stars).I want to give it 3 stars because the price, while good for the area, comes with a bunch of extra fees if you have a car, dog, etc. Just be aware that the sticker price will most likely not be the price you pay. Other than that, this is a great area. The location is nice, as it relatively close to the metro but far enough from the main city that traffic and noise is awful. It is situated on a one-way street, which I thought was going to make life hard but it actually is still really easy. The traffic getting back is often aggravating, but that is by no means Topaz Houses fault, just something to be aware of.I would recommend living here, it is very nice; just the fees for extra stuff is aggravating, and one of the reasons I will not be returning once my lease is up.
Its surprising to see some prior review about my current situation with leasing / management. Personally, my initial experience was good, However, would provide unbiased follow up review later, based on how pending matter is resolved.I promised a follow up review.I would like to report that management responded to my request positively and its completely resolved to my satisfaction.
My wife and I resided at Topaz House while working in the district. Very convenient to the metro. Large apartment sizes. Management staff and maintenance employees were all very responsive and considerate. We were treated better than expected and I would happily recommend them to anyone.
Ive lived in the Topaz House apartments for about a month now and I love it here. The location is great-- 2 blocks or so to the Bethesda metro. The building itself is clean and quiet, the leasing office is really helpful, and the amenities (pool, gym, etc) are awesome added features. I highly recommend living here if you are looking for places in the Bethesda/ Chevy Chase area.
0 stars tbh. Horrible Hospitality. Especially the leasing manager Efrem. Getting customer is his job but involving lies and disrespect isnt right. Very unprofessional, even asked me about his printer problems and told me to leave after. Who does that to customer?!?!?!? I stayed bc of the location but never more than that. The walls never helps with noises especially in the building like this. The room beside me smokes like hell and plays loud music. Full of scams. So dont believe the ratings. You pay extra for your peace of mind not stress.
I have had the best experience at Topaz House. Efrem has been a blessing from the first time I contacted him in April 2019. A true professional and great man. The transition to Maryland was made to easy by Topaz House and Efrem. Great gym, rooftop lookout and overall environment!! Close to, Starbucks, Woodmont Grill, Target, La Madeline, Harris Teeter, CVS and much more all a few minutes walk.
The staff is extremely rude and they really don’t care about the satisfaction of their residents. In addition, the apartments are so old and if you get a furnished apartment, the furniture is hideous. The Holiday Inn Express is infinitely nicer compared to this place. My apartment didn’t even have a dishwasher. Also, you have to take your laundry to a specific laundry room ( reminded me of a laundromat). Who wants to share washers and dryers with an entire floor of people you don’t even know?! Moreover, you can pay up to almost $6 per load. Don’t move here. It’s expensive and totally not worth it!!!!
I had loved staying at this place. Close to metro, as well as trails and parks, its location is awesome. It is well maintained - the staff is helpful and maintenance available 6 days a week, promptly. The rooms are spacious and the management keeps doing stuff to make it better - when I was moving out, they were renovating gym, which was already in a decent shape. But, they are so super slow in giving refund of advance deposit, you really begin wondering about their professionalism. It has been 12 weeks since I moved out and am still just following-up to get the refund, when they had said it will take 6-8 weeks. If not for this, Id have given them an extra star.
I lived here for 3 years during my medical residency. The building has been around for a while, but the apartments are nicely renovated and very well maintained. The staff is great and the maintenance people are very quick to respond (although I rarely needed to ever call them). The best part for me is that the units are very well insulated, so I NEVER heard my neighbors! The other great thing was the price. I dont think you can find a better deal per square feet anywhere in Bethesda (plus, they cover utilities and electric, so you can crank that AC as much as you want in the summer!). I rarely made it up to the rooftop pool, but its a pretty fun spot to hang out in the summer. On a clear day you can see the Washington Monument from up there.
I moved in to Topaz building August 2017 and it was very efficient and fast. I was very impressed by the execution of the leasing manager. Certainly, when they need your money and they are really fast. I stay there until end of April because I purchase property in DC so I need to move out. My lender had the extremely difficult time to reach out the manager to get a rental verification and I have to walk into the office twice in order to make it done. At this moment, I still believe they are just busy. After I moved out for 35 days, I sent them email checking the status with no replies. one week after, I called them and they said I should get the deposit back soon. On June 16, I still do not receive my deposit, which is 46 days after I moved out. I emailed them again and one of the officer replied me said her manager is responsible for the deposit and she will check. Come on, I do not have to know your internal organization in order to get my money back. After the one week, which is today, I still do not received any feedback. Based on Maryland law, I should get my deposit within 45 after I moved out. Now it is been 55 days. I strongly believe I need to post this comments to website so everyone should manager your timing accordingly when things come to return deposit and rental verification.
An excellent place, the studio apartment is very convenient for short stays, nice amenities, friendly and flexible management, very good location close to the metro and to shopping streets and restaurants in Bethesda. The prices are extremely good, I highly recommend it.
Noise from outside AC (not sure, maybe its from the adjacent office building) is very loud. And for some reason its always turned on at night. If you prefer to keep your windows open, youll feel like living in a bus that drives through a highway.
My brother works there. He says its real nice
Great apartment building. Staff is friendly and the price is very good for the area. The building has a very nice gym, a pool and doorman service.
Please, be mindful of any information given during touring before lease signing, usually not the truth. End game is to get you to sign lease, thereafter, the nightmare starts. Dealing with the leasing office and management is the worse experience i have had in my 8+ of renting....Be warned!!!!!!
Good location, ok building and apartments. The service is pretty bad though. Most of the front desk staff has a very rude attitude (the tall guy is super nice.) You cant get your packages if you work long days, and sometimes even when you are here they wont give you your package the same day it arrives. Our balcony is still all mold covered even though they said they would power wash it months ago. Theres a weird smoky smell that hasnt been addressed after 3 times asking them to fix it... 8 months later and I think Ive finally just become numb to the smell. Very unaccommodating towards bike commuters, saying you cant go through the lobby, you have to go all the way around the block (not just the building) to bring your bike in the back door, and you have to use the service elevator, which can take forever to come. On most weekends they have people moving in with priority service and youll be lucky if you ever get on.Great location, ok price and apartments, all a good deal if youre fine with being treated like a second class citizen (or even worse if you ride a bike.)
We lived at the topaz house for 3 years. The price in unbeatable in downtown bethesda and its very convienent to bethesda row and the metro! The maintenance was always quick to respond to our needs. They did a great job with updating features to provide for the tenants. The reason I knocked a star off was 1. The package service time is terrible. If you work normal hours at a job its near impossible to get your package. 2. The staff office is also never open at a convienent time and 3. The front desk staff should not be called security. Overall my husband and I enjoyed our time there.
In fact, those who wish to live in peace and enjoy the comfortable and quiet place you will not find better than this because this place has the human and the natural and practical harmonically do not hesitate to be the best, thank you to all the staff and the administrators of this edifice
Stayed at furnished studio for a month. This is one of few apartments in Bethesda area that offer furnished short-term lease. Although its not a modern facility as seen along Rockville Pike, it has a calm and relaxing ambience with sophisticated staffs. One negative point is that it doesnt provide room WiFi while very weak WiFi is available at lobby zone. It might be reasonable considering that most of the residents stay here for longer term and contract with internet provider individually, but this was real pain for short-term guests like us.
Please dont go there, I am residing here from last 3.5 years and I saw rats in my house as they cleaned up near by apartments which was closed from 2-3 years and so many rats were there and now rats came to my unit and I asked for change of my apartment but they are saying rats are not their responsibility also they started blaming on my apartment condition and saying they cant help out in this. Its very scary to see rats running on your couch and I have 3 year old at my home and these things not even bother leasing office. I hope somebody from higher management read this review and reach out to me so that I can explain my entire concern. If you want to live with rats you can come to Topaz house as once you come inside nobody will listen to you as because of poor management. I tried to reach out to owner many times and I don know leasing office staff keep changing very frequently and never allowed me to talk to owner. I hope one day I will be able to communicate my things to him. They are offering specials to new customers to make them fool but if you come here once and asked for upgrades they will not offer any special and even charge more than the new customer. Please stay away from this place.
Where to begin?! Topaz House has been hands down the best experience Ive ever had at any place Ive lived. I was in a pickle to find a new apartment and Moriah (associate manager) was absolutley a doll. She got the ball rolling for me that day and was constantly in touch via email to make sure I was prepared to move in in a jif.My apartment is gorgeous, spacious and extremely cozy. 2 bedrooms, 2 bath and a great living area with an open kitchen. The pool and rooftop are a couple of the great perks of living here. I would recommend this building to anyone on the market looking for a new spot. Be sure to talk to Moriah, she really is a peach who cares about all the tenants at the topaz. If I could give more stars I would!
They need a 60 day letter of not renewing lease to get your deposit back. These people are criminals!
Move in was easy, and the staff was extremely helpful.
