Their newest hire (the older man with red hair and glasses) has to be the SLOWEST working person there. Every time I come to this post office there is fast service, but when he is at the front desk I have to plan my whole day around being there. There is no reason he has a line of 10 people every time he is alone. I’ve had to leave twice because he has taken so long. And I’m not the type to complain but this is annoying at this point!
Have tried repeatedly to book a passport acceptance visit here. For first kid, like a day or so before, theyve canceled on us. I ended up booking in an SF USPS and had no problem (aside from the lengthy trip). Tried again here for my second kid, same deal, they called and canceled on us after weeks of waiting. This time I booked in Orindas USPS instead. Im getting the message - this USPS doesnt want you to visit. Take their advice.
I made an appointment for my baby to take his passport photo and submit all required documents to get a passport. When I arrived for my appointment, I was informed that USPS does not have appropriate equipment to take a photo of an 8 month old. I pointed out that the information was not available on their website when booking my appointment and the employee acknowledged that. It’s imperative for customers to know this, I would have made plans to have his photo taken elsewhere and bring it with me. I booked this appointment a month ago because it was the soonest one available, only to be turned away. Very disappointed in the lack of communication, Thank you for wasting my time!
Why is the post office closed at 9am on a Tuesday? Made an appt online for passport processing and the building is completely closed.
They work slowly but were helpful to a new comer. I found this post office the least crowded and also the only one open on a Saturday, which was a huge help to me.
Went in for a passport and everything was quick and easy. The only problem was that they cant take photos during the pandemic, but thats hardly their fault. They even called me ahead of time to let me know.
I wish I could give negative ratings. Extremely rude. Will never choose unless forced to.
Very kind and hardworking people at the front desks. Definitely the busiest Post Office in Berkeley so expect a line and be patient.
What a beautiful old building, both inside and out. Lots of wood inside with the old painted names and numbers, denoting a time when we took pride in our civic buildings. We dealt with Tony and he was fantastic. Helpful, funny and a total professional at his job.1st time there, but it was one of the best Post Office experiences I’ve ever had.
Beautiful building and the workers are nice, but service overall is terrible. Lines are always long and slow moving. Also, the self service box has been broken for several months and it doesnt look like they intend to fix it.
The man and woman who work week days are super efficient and always helpful. Lines get long near the end of the day and self service machine needs its card reader fixed.
It’s horrible; Hell on earth. I wish they would bulldoze this gross place. The employees are the slowest most inept. Their pension and benefits are pre funded so they can be as slow or as fast as they feel like. I waited for an hour to pick up mail since my apartment complex next door had its mailroom destroyed.
The employee told us that the QR code on the receipt could be used for tracking, but it leads to a customer survey! Also, the employee gave us incomplete information about the tracking code so that we only have the one for our express priority mail going to New York, not the one going from New York to us. Therefore, our package ( which was an important visa document) is now untraceable. If you are sending important mail that needs to get to you in time, please use another service! I really hope nobody else will pay 50 dollars for a total failure in service delivery.
Employees don’t wear face masks.Do you have a postal service related question? Sorry they can’t help you with that but they will give you a phone number to call that no one will ever answer.
This rating could soon change to a 1. I registered for a post office box online, paid for my three months of rental, okay. Simple enough. I knew Id need to go to the location to pick up my keys after showing identification. Nowhere online did it say to check about the availability of a postal clerk to issue your keys. I drive 20 minutes out of my way, pay Berkeleys premium parking prices for an hour because I know what to expect - long lines, slow service, poor service - but I was happy that the desk was open on a Saturday. After standing in line for way too long, Im informed that the person who can issue keys only works Monday through Friday, 9-5. I plan on calling on Monday to figure out if theres a way to do all the verification with her through some other means to pick up my keys, but otherwise Im demanding a full refund. The point of a PO box to me has always been the extended accessibility to it outside of working hours. No way am I taking a day off of work just to do this! Ill take my business elsewhere, to a local store providing private mailboxes. Not worth the hassle!
When things are good, it’s important to say it !I went to this post office to eventually hear about a package sent from France and that I’ve never received (wrong address on the package). The lady at the front desk took the time, was willing to help me, asked me questions... and a few minutes later, I was leaving the post office with my package.
I see really negative reviews on here. Today was my first time at this location and only positive experience. Very nice people and beautiful building. No wait 🙏 ❣️
They actually responded to a request that I posted online on the USPS website and held a package that was mislabeled but had my phone number on it so that I could come and pick it up.
I came into take care of our families passports & the person who helped me was super informed & helpful! They answered my questions & saved me heaps of time.
Extremely bad service, the guy in the middle window whose name is Tony is the most horrible clerk I have ever seen . Just rude and careless, other staff too, but he was the best. There was one time he signed my package delivered from Fedex then lost it in their facility, his attitude was like he did not do anything wrong, until I reached out their supervisor, first time she was horrible too until called USPS customer care and got the facility managed involved, they are just horrible people.
The passport service at this post office is absolutely horrible. The girl processing the past ports is rude and very lazy. I was there twice. First time I went she wasn’t there that day due to mandatory training. I went back there today to find out their printer has been down for weeks so they can’t do photos even though the website says they can. Then she told me the amount of the check was wrong and it has to be done I two payments even though the government website calculated my fee and didn’t say anything about separate payments. Avoid this post office at all costs for pass ports. There is a passport processing center on 2301 Bancroft Way. They told me they get a lot of people there who have complained about the service and run around at the post office. The processing center at Bancroft is the way to go. They processed my application in 5 minutes. They took my check and I paid them $35 for their processing fee. They said the check they took the government will refund me the $35 so I was good to go. They were wonderful! To bad the people at the post office could have cared a less about the horrible service they provide.
It was my first time sending an international package and Angie was super nice and helpful. There was basically no wait when I went so I got in and out pretty quickly.
0. Worst experience ever in Berkeley.1. Consistently got interrupted by the staff when I tried to explain my situations.2. Been there twice, didnt get anything done nor useful information.3. Please go to the office at Durant St. They are generally friendly and helpful.4. Avoid using USPS whenever possible. I still didnt get my passport delivered after many attempts of contacting them and scheduling redeliveries.
I usually go to the post office at Allston way and always meet up with ton of a line.So I tried this place out on Tuesday afternoon and found that there was only one person before me. Nice!!The service was decent, not horrible or rude as the previous reviews. The facility was also clean and organized. I will use this place for next time.
I wish there was a no stars option for this. I came in just before 5pm with a pre-packaged box, just needed to use the self-service kiosk to print a label and send it on its way. The kiosk was having technical issues and suggested I go see a member at the counter. I waited in line for a few minutes and then when I was second in line, the counter guy said he could help me since it was after 5pm. I told him I was in the lobby before 5pm and the kiosk was broken so I could use it, then I was waiting in line for a few minutes to ship the package. He repeated it is 5:15 and were closed and I would have to come back tomorrow.Pro tip: use FedEx for anything you care about.
The worst Usps I have ever seen.
Worst experience ever, it does not even deserve one star. I had a package delivered to me but was not home when the first delivery attempt took place. I went online to schedule a redelivery, I waited...and nothing. No note, no attempt. Tried again 3 times, same thing. Called USPS customer service they told me they had an order to hold the package at the post office from the customer even though I never ordered it to be held. So they placed a complaint and asked for it to be redelivered. Waited...nothing. Tried calling this specific place to ask about it, the phone rang and rang for over 20 minutes with no answer. Finally decided I was just going to have to waste my time waiting in their supper slow line with lousy service. Only to get informed that my package was now being delivered back to the person who sent it to me...
Wow. Do not go to this location. It will absolutely ruin your day if you have to deal with some of the employees. The second time I went, I refused to see the woman who works at the counter on the far left, as did the man in front of me in line! Obviously other customers have experienced her disgraceful customer service. Go to the man with the ponytail instead. He at least is willing to help you.
I came on a Sat morning. there was no lineup. the assistance lady is super nice and helpful. to my surprise, the service is not bad at all.
Would rather give zero star if possible. all workers are extremely low-efficient and arrogant. Long wait every time.for those International students who need to pick up packages, remember to bring your passport or driver license or they wont give you the package.
Always a long line that moves slowly. If you are looking for faster service, use the mail center at Staples on Shattuck and Durant. Staples mails USPS and UPS, is quicker, and has better hours.
When they wouldnt give me a slip for the prepaid return and i tried to at least take a picture of my package, clerk yelled no pictures here! its a federal facility.
Not built to help ship stuff. Unhelpful staff. Go to fedex the next block over and pay a few dollars more for a package you can reliably track.
Came to the office this morning to mail an envelope with tracking. There was no line, but the employee was alrady irritated and snapped at me for no apparent reason. Spoke with me in condescending tone.I did not feel it was safe leaving my package with her and just left. Will have to make a trip to another office and send it from there.
Very nice and swift. Went in a Saturday Morning with some international mail requests.
Long lines, only 2 people working windows. Went there to renew my passport at 12:03pm. Only person trained went out to lunch. Went back at 115pm, person was still not back. Told I should come back later? Not customer service focused. Attitude of worker at window, sucked.
One member of the staff in particular is equal parts rude, ignorant, and flat out a disgusting human being. Watched her berate multiple customers, was incredibly unhelpful on the phone, gave out incorrect information about passport requirements, and literally refused to service multiple customers. She refused to submit my passport application without my fathers name and birth place, when I explained I didnt have it she told me to ask my mother. I can only hope to not be as much of a miserable person employed at this establishment.
Always a VERY long wait and employees are extremely slow and have poor use of language. While I was standing at the counter waiting, a person next to me tried to pay for his shipping with a $20 bill. The USPS employee said, Dont you got a credit card? I aint got none change. I was trying to mail an international package and was told We dont have any more customs forms. I asked when they would get them. No idea. The ONLY thing to recommend this post office is the mailing kiosk because it doesnt require human interaction. But only limited services can be accomplished there.
By far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a post office. Extremely rude. Crossing my fingers that they actually send my package correctly.
This is seriously the worst posy office EVER! TONY, that works in the front doesnt know what he is talking about. I paid for priority shipping and just wanted him to scan my package, so I can have a tracking number. He said NO and made me pay $1.40 to get my tracking that doesnt make any sense if i already paid for it???? The time before this he did the same thing but the girl next to him actually took me and did it so i didnt have to pay.... He felt so stupid!!!! If you could avoid coming here by All means please do!
Workers laughed in my face after wasting my time.My wife is home bound as she is extremely ill. Because I only had her credit card on hand, even though the last names match, they refused to take my money. This is after they put the packing label on the package. They made me wait 15 minutes while they painstakingly took off the label refusing to let me just take out the item from the package. Do not go here. The lady laughed in my face when I asked her to let me remove my item and leave.
Look- I hate the post office- but every time Ive come here they were relatively quick, efficient and MUCH more polite and helpful than my experiences in Chicago or Cleveland.
I love this post office. Its one of the most beautiful buildings in Berkeley. Yes, theyre understaffed, but Ive always found them to be polite, even when dealing with rude people who think everything should happen within nano seconds of their request. Yes, sometimes the lines are long, what a pity you have to wait. FYI, Staples charges you more, and they just take your packages to the Post Office. They dont have a structure that is Nationwide for delivery. And we pay less for postage than the rest of the world.
Super sweet workers!
I use Staples as they are knowledgeable, great customer service and efficient. yes the building is beautiful but the staff are the worst I have seen they all have an attitude, slow as you can get...terrible!!!!All this crazy people in town camping outside to safe this place...really? this people just need an excuse to put up their tents and smoke crack. If this post office employees worked for me they will ALL be fired!!! Oh wait...the reason we are stuck with them is that are Union! I believe in the Union but when you get self entitle lazy workers that just wrong!!
Would give zero stars if I could. This African American lady working the counter today moved at a snails pace. I literally waited for her to type in everything on my customs form like a hen pecking at seeds. It was the slowest thing I’ve ever seen. When I asked her if I could pay, she said I had to wait until she was done and “if you don’t want to follow the rules of the usps, there are other options available”. When she asked me how I wanted to send my envelope, I said “regular mail.” “No such thing!” was this lady’s reply. There was at least 25 people in line and the other counter lady HAD to go on her break at 1pm. Omg. Like so these people feel ZERO sense of urgency when the line is that long. I cannot believe how slow this lady was today and then she was rude. Never going back.
Waits are often long, and there isn’t enough seating. The staff I have interacted with here are warm, friendly, and helpful.
Terrible customer service and atrociously long lines. Skip USPS altogether, buy from Amazon or ship via UPS/FedEx. As most government services go, this one is straight garbage. It feels like people are forced to come here due to complications with packages. No one, and I mean NO ONE, comes here for the hell of it or just because they want to ship something via the post office.
My package from Berkeley to Stanford was delivered to the wrong address and lost. I called the hotline but it was extremely difficult to connect to a human. Finally, I had to search on Google how to press keys to connect to a human. After 16 minutes of awful ads, I was connected, But the operator was full of cliches and told me that they would investigate it and call me back and e-mail me in one business day. But three months passed and no reply. They are good at stealing packages and lying, but not delivery.Update: I was returning a book bought on Amazon and it might be the seller lying that the book was not delivered.
-this USPS is inefficient and unprofessional-Went here to apply for a passport-Line was long and made longer because the Postal worker allowed people to constantly cut the line-Waited for 2 hours just to be sent to a different window and a 2nd person. Where was this person in the last two hours? The manager saw the line growing and slowly shrinking. She was constantly commenting how there more people in the post office for passports than shipping packages. Why not open a 2nd line sooner rather than 15 minutes before the window closes passport application window?-Employees repeatedly yelled at and talked down to customers in line.this place or close it.
9:15 AM. May 2nd. I was on line waiting to purchase a stamped envelope to mail my rent check. I was one of 3 people total at the post office, including the clerk. After about 5 minutes four other people came in and joined the line behind me. They each pulled a number from the ticket dispenser beside the clerk. The clerk finished helping the woman in front of me, then it was my turn.Number 98!Good morning, Id like one stamped envelope please. Are you number 98?I am not a number, I joked.Where is your number?I paused. You saw I was waiting in line.I cant help you without a number, so you can take one and get back in line. For one stamped envelope? You really didnt see me standing here? You need a number to be served. Maybe youll remember that for next time. The guy behind me piped up. He was here before any of the rest of us.The clerk frowned. This time, Ill help you, but you cant just stand in line without a number. One stamped envelope? As children, some people dream of being astronauts and then grow up to become actuaries. Others dream of being God and grow up to be postal clerks.Sure, the building is beautiful, but I need good service more than collonades and arches.
Never seen an officer that is rude like here. Really bad English and no patient to customers. I wonder why such officer are still here.
Super slow. There is almost always a long line. Half an hour is the minimum time you should waste there if you are very lucky!
Unfortunately, the staff is extremely rude and the wait is always unnecessarily long. Lately on occasion some staff have been trying to be making an effort to be more polite, but this post office has had bad customer service for years. They dont have a good selection of stamps either. One would think the main post office would be better.
Really wish I could leave 0 stars on every USPS page. Whoever I talked to wouldnt give me their name and basically hung up on me. Very rude. Probably the worst out of all the services since they dont know how to properly place a package in front of someones door. Instead they leave it on the floor by the elevator so it gets stolen.
Its the post office. I havent had a problem with them. Id imagine youd normally only leave a review of the post office if you had a really bad time...they arent that bad.
Beautiful building. Fast service. Went in on a Saturday afternoon.
Never helpful.Always have to wait for a long time.Have been there a few times hoping to pick my package up and they just declare that the package is not there (I guess they didnt look hard enough) - and today I asked them to look for the package again with a different person and there you go they have it.Have to go through all these frustrations every time getting a package there - not pleasant.
Old balding man was rude and not helpful at all
Claims to have scanned and delivered my package, but the mailman never delivered it. Called their office to ask about the situation 1 and a half hour before they close, but no one picked up at all. I have called multiple times and called pretty much until they are definitely closed, and yet no one picked up.Called the next day right when they opened, a guy picked up and said he will look into the situation. Didnt get a call back from them until 3:30 pm. When they did call me back they stated that the mailman claimed to have left the package on my doorsteps. When I told the guy on the phone that USPS did deliver a package to my address (i live in an apartment type complex) on that day, but that wasnt the package on my tracking number, that was someone elses package. The guy on the phone put me on hold to go back and ask the mailman. Left me on hold for over 15 minutes, than a lady came by and told me that I am talking to the wrong department, I am holding up the line, and gave me the number for the supervisor and hanged up (despite I was trying to explain to her that I am waiting for one of the employees there to get back at me with an answer to my missing mail). So I immediately called the supervisor at 3:50 pm (keep in mind USPS closes at 5), and was talking to A supervisor about my problems... but only ended with a response sorry you are not under my jurisdiction, they guy you need to talk to already left the office. Please call back tomorrow morning Really? It only JUST turned 4 pm and the guy left? And I have to wait ANOTHER day? Seriously? If it isnt because the package contain valuable content I probably would have just let it go by now... but seriously?USPS you deserve to be downsized. You deserve to go out of business. All the unnecessary bureaucracy and incompetence and lack of motivation of your employees is unacceptable. I personally dont feel this way, but many people do state that the USPS is just filled with thieving bastards that prescan mails with valuables and steal the packages that they can get away with. Avoid this business at all cost, you are a lot better off with DHL, UPS, or FedEx.
They lost my packages. Then when I filed a claim for it, the woman, named Teresa Gonzales, who handles the claims LIED about talking to me on the phone, and closed the claim without my knowledge. I’m out money and merchandise because of these terrible employees.
I mailed a package from New York to Berkeley with tracking and signature confirmation. Tracking states that they attempted delivery to my customer and a notice was left. My customer never got the notice. I tried to set up a second delivery, the said that I couldnt because the package was on its way back to me, which it isnt because it was never scanned in. So I called and talked with Irene, the morning supervisor who told me that she would check with the carrier and call me back. I called back the next afternoon and she said that she hadnt talked with the carrier yet. SO I called back the next day, and spoke with Ray, the PM supervisor, who told me that they attempted delivery, and that the usual carrier gave that half of the route to a new guy on that day (convenient) and that he would have to do some looking but it was definitely at his facility, unless the new guy STOLE it, which rarely happens because they have cameras and stuff. I gave him 3 days, until Friday, to find it and call me back. He called me back the next day and told me that he found it, compared the tracking number, and told me it was a different package that had been LOST for my customer, that the package had to be there somewhere unless it got put on the wrong truck for delivery but my customer and I are the only people who can sign for it so it would be showing up soon, and he would continue looking. I waited until the following Tuesday and called right at 9 when they open. Once I told Irene who it was, she put me on hold then put the carrier on the phone, who took all my information again, then put me on hold for a half hour . After waiting for an hour on the phone, total, I hung up and called back and was put on hold for another 30 minutes. Called back AGAIN, to be told I was 5th in line and my wait would be long. So I waited until 4PM to call back, they picked up the phone, and hung it up without even saying hello. That happened 3 times. This place is appalling. I have never in my life dealt with such an ignorant group of people.
Always feel like the staff looks down on you if you dont know the ins and outs of the postal service, every time i ask a question here I am given a rude response. Go to the post office in downtown Berkeley if possible.
Extremely slow. Have you watched Zootopia ? Remember DMV ? That is them.
Most unfriendly staff. It’s obvious that these people don’t want to work here.“You forgot to add the return address!” - “Oh, I am sorry. Could I borrow your pen for a second to add it?” - “No, people keep stealing my pen!”
If i could give zero stars I would. these guys are the absolute worst. We showed up to get a passport for our six week old baby - as we got to the front of the line the incredibly rude lady closed her window in our face (an hour before closing time) as she was running into overtime - her supervisor told her to open it again, she refused. These guys are hopeless and could not care less - appaling customer service, I implore you to take your business elsewhere.
Really nice and helpful staff.
The people are pretty rude, consistently, but they get the job done. Sometimes have to wait in a long line though.
Bad service, go to another usps
This is the slowest, most inefficiently run post office I have ever been to. The (only) woman working the counter (with a line of 10 people) moved at a glacial pace and was quite rude.
I have to laugh at some of the comments from others. This is a federal government institution operating in the most anti-government location in the Unites States. I would not expect, even if they staffed this place with Stephen Hawking would they get positive reviews from the locals. While we were here, they were staging a protest to keep the location open, so go figure.
Extremely rude, unhelpful staff and long lines. They seemed utterly miserable and unhappy about being there. Wont be coming here again if I can help it!
I hate to bag on employees in tough jobs like this one, but the staff here is just the worst. The worst post office Ive ever been to
Tony was super nice and friendly
Only one person working wow ! USPS need to hire more people for this location . Stop being cheap and hire more people.
Best place to totally ruin your day :)Very, very rude staff👍👏
They dont give a crap. Worst PO Ive ever used and that is saying something.
Al Bates has been a part of our neighborhood for years ! Thank The Spirits for Als Spirit and Service to us all. Thank You Al, Bill Dane, Talbot Ave.
I used to use this post office all of the time when I lived in the area. Very friendly staff.
Very slow service. I waited for 45 minutes to send a letter.
The worst place in US. Crazy people work there... Zero stars
Supposed to open at 9am, have been sitting here for about 30mins, they finally opened at 10am, ridiculous
Negative stars should be an option here.
The worst experience ever, dealing with usps at this location was like dealing with a bunch of lazy, rude, entitled bullies who have zero desire to help customers and/or work!
Incredibly rude and unhelpful staff.
Bad customer service 👎🏽
Extremely RUDE.
Extremely rude toward customer
One of the staff is extremely rude, keeps bullying customers.
Very bad customer service
Racist as well as extremely rude..
They are a joke.
Broken machines.
Just go to Fedex
Extremely SLOW service!!!
Rudest workers ever
The worst
Useless.
My friend tried to send my parcel to Australia, however USPS lost the ship that had my delivery. They didnt once call my friend to tell him they lost it. He waited months until he called them multiple times and they told him theyre investigating the issue every single time. They gave him a refund for the shipping price when he asked them the 7th time on call. Do not recommend USPS not reliable and doesnt care about customers.
Can I give a zero-star review? We made our passport appointment weeks in advance, carefully prepared all the documents and forms, took time off work (for me) and school (for my son) to come out to Berkeley, found parking downtown and showed up ten minutes early to our appointment, all as instructed ...only to find a shuttered window, and be told No passports. Closed for a week. Sorry. They called and e-mailed people to let them know. No they didnt, you wretched bureaucratic lugnut. They didnt bother informing anyone, nor did they find a way to help people who had appointments, because THEY. DONT. CARE. There are no consequences for their appalling customer service, other than bad reviews, so why would they bother to provide even a semblance of decent service? Well, heres another bad review for you. Maybe another office would be better, who knows. Thanks for the big dose of frustration and the wasted time, you useless sponges.
