Buying a car at a dealership is never a completely wonderful time. So Im rating this business in comparison to other dealer experiences. With some online homework on the current inventory of cars, we went in to walk through the lot and look at several possible cross overs. The salesman left us alone so we could go through each vehicle at our own pace. When we had our candidate, we took our test drive without the salesman. The car details were efficiently detailed, the trade in value of our car was typical and the financing straightforward. The final paperwork took a while to complete. Apparently it takes over 3 hours to buy a car from any dealer. The hands.off, no haggle arrangement just made the entire process much less stressful.
I requested an online offer to sell my car to CarMax in the afternoon and made an appointment to redeem the offer for the same night. We showed up for the inspection and paperwork and walked out with a check for the full online offer amount within 1 hour. The process was seamless, the people I interacted with were great, and the offer we received was favorable compared to trading in at a dealership.

The inventory was amazing...especially with the used car market right now. We have seen so many bare car lots. The process of buying the car was so smooth. I came in pre-approved and flew through the purchasing process. It was the most seamless and easiest car buying experience I have ever had. I plan on using CarMax for all my future car purchases.
The initial buy of my car was fine. My car has now completely died twice, we could maybe fit you in in 2 weeks very poor follow up for service...be forewarned.

Great way to trade in and buy a car. Pleasant, informative, everything went smooth. I would have liked more for my trade in of course but I had done my research and pretty much knew what to expect. The price on the new car was very fair. They constantly were making sure that all of our questions were answered and that all of our concerns were addressed. The process did take several hours but you have to expect that with all the moving parts. Will definitely buy through CarMax again.

This was a great experience, I did an online quote to sell my vehicle that only took a few minutes. I made an appointment to finish the process at 10 am the next day. I arrived 20 min early but it was not a problem. The appraisal took 20 min and I got the final quote for my car. After that all of the paper work was taken care of and all I had to do was sign. The entire process took just under an hour. If buy a car is anywhere near the same I dont see why you would go anywhere else. I am extremely happy with the level of customer service that was provided. I have told everyone that I can about the amazing service I received and recommend they go through CarMax to sell any car in the future.

Probably the easiest vehicle transaction I’ve ever done. I went in for an appraisal, and got my offer after only 30 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised with what they were offering, and shocked it was above Kelly blue book values. I had to wait for my lessor to give the payoff amount, so I had to return the next day. But when I came back to sell it, it was only another 30 minutes before I left with a check in my hand. Very easy and very happy!
This was a great car buying experience except for one thing. They didn’t tell me I needed collision insurance on my car in order to test drive theirs for 24 hours. I had been dropped off by the time I found out, so had to take a Lyft home. Also, the website says they’ll deliver the car to you, however that’s not true in Oregon.Everything else was great, though, and they were very helpful. I liked the no haggle aspect, the 24 hour test drive, the 30 day return policy, and the big yellow bow!

They claim to have a no haggle policy. Its total BS. When I made them an offer for their car they refused to accept it and suggested I pay a different price than what I had offered them meaning they wanted to negotiate the price. They also kept me on hold for 35 minute waiting to talk to someone. Im defiantly not purchasing from them.
Everything went swimmingly. As effortless as purchasing a car can be. April, who managed the process, did an excellent job, and Im a hard grader. Id no previous experience with CarMax, but the entire operation was most impressive. A month ago I purchased a 2013 VW Turbo Beetle with only 9K miles. Very happy with my new old car.
When you walk into any car dealership you expect to be pretty much attacked by sales people trying to get you into a car. But at Carmax they are there for you, to make sure you get the right car. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. It was the best sales experience!

It was very straight forward and easy. I had gotten an offer online. I made an appointment but it seemed like you could also just walk-in. They spent 30-40 min inspecting car and confirming the original offer. Ended up offering more than my online offer which was a sweet surprise. You have a week to accept the offer but I accepted on the spot. Took about another 20 min for paperwork to be complete on their end. 3 signatures, they hand you a check and that’s it. Just make sure you have your title and all the people on the title are present. While waiting I Overheard some people having to come back another day bc spouse or whoever wasn’t there.
I bought my first new car in 16 years and April at the Beaverton location was great to work with. She was very helpful, easy to talk to and very upbeat and friendly. All the staff were very pleasant and made the whole process easy to understand and hassle free. I would recommend using them to any friends or family.
My experience at CarMax was the worst car buying experience I have ever had. If I never have to business with CarMax again it will be too soon. First of all, the “sales managers” I dealt with were at best deceptive, at worst dishonest. I made an online appointment to view and test drive a vehicle at the Beaverton, OR store. The vehicle had been on the lot for 14 weeks. When I arrived, Michael, the sales manager who greeted me, told me I would have to wait 30 minutes or so. I explained that I had a 3:00 appointment and would appreciate having someone see me at my appointed time. I had driven 150 miles to drive this vehicle so was forced to wait and after about 25 minutes waiting I spoke with someone else at the check in desk who stated that my appointment was listed as 6:00 p.m. I’m pretty certain that Michael switched my appointment time because I complained about having to wait. I wandered the lot and was finally connected with a sales associate and after the test drive asked why the prices were different for the same vehicle.This is where I learned the business model is dishonest. I was shopping for a car that is difficult to find and was willing to drive or ship from pretty much anywhere in the U.S. I found three identical vehicles; same make, model, year, trim line and color, all within about 1000 miles on the odometer. According to CarMax there should be “no haggle” pricing. This certainly does not mean “no hassle”. The price difference was $2000 between the vehicles with the closest vehicle being the most expensive.I said I was ready to do the deal for the price on the vehicle in Maryland and was told that the price is set for the market where the vehicle is located even though CarMax business model advertises to appeal to a national market. I was told I could not get the vehicle there for the price of the one in Maryland, but could ship the Maryland vehicle out for $2000, effectively making my cost the same. The vehicle in California was $1000 cheaper but $1000 to ship. It occurred to me that prices are set so that of a vehicle requiring shipping incurs a cost to match the sticker price at a higher priced closer store, something that should be stated explicitly and not hidden within a deceptive pricing structure.The final deception came when I was ready to complete the deal and pay $2000 to have the Maryland vehicle shipped sight unseen to my local store, having to pay shipping regardless of whether or not the vehicle was in acceptable condition and was told it would take 21 days. However, the quote for the value of my trade-in was only valid for 7 days and they would not put in writing that my trade in would be accepted. Allison, the sales manager in my local store, told me three times during our conversation that if I didn’t like it then I didn’t have to do business with them. I got up and left, driving 150 miles and wasting a day of my time to give another store the sale.

I have had my new car for a month now. There was one small issue with the tire pressure monitoring system battery on one of the tires. The service department replaced all four batteries for no charge. My experience has been completely stress free. They have a great selection of cars at different prices and even without buying an additional warrantee you have 90 days to drive and come back to them if there are any problems. I would definitely recommend CarMax even if youll be paying a little more for convenience. My salesperson was very helpful and not pushy at all, very patient and accommodating and I ended up with a car that I LOVE.

I bought what I thought would be my last car however after not even 2 months of having it we found out the engine was bad and needed replacement so I refused to take the car back and after weeks of trying to get an answer they finally agreed to a full buyback! I tried finding another car but because of the poor quality of every car I test drive I chose to go with a reliable dealer I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND CARMAX TO ANYONE

Worst car service! Very unprofessional!! I spoke with 2 separate reps via phone and text and they both were very condescending towards me due to my age and work status. One even mocked me being an independent contractor and owning a business because I’m 24........ and proceeded to tell me how he’s owned many businesses and has done many independent work. Also the Information online doesn’t match the information they tell you what’s so ever. I was willing to add more of a down payment no matter the price for the right car but after a while it just became more irritating to work with them, I’d rather give my money elsewhere. I’ve financed and fully paid off many cars in the past so I fully understand the car business. Just because of my demographics they wanted to give me a hard time which is frustrating but In the end everything works out in Gods favor and that just means he didn’t want me to work with Carmax! After deciding to sell my car I decided to head down to CarMax to see what they would offer for my 2012 VW TDI Golf with low mileage. I set an appointment and had a written offer in about 40 minutes. Their efficiency was impressive, even more so as this took place on a Saturday. I returned a couple of days later, without an appointment, and had them take my car for a test drive, confirm their offer, sign the paperwork and walk out the door in less than an hour.I really appreciate their transparency when explaining the offer. I had a figure in mind and was pleasantly surprised that their offer was higher. They made selling my car to them an extremely simple and time efficient experience. I would highly recommend considering them if you want/need to sell a car with no pressure to get into something new off their lot.

Definitely not the same place it used to be. Ive purchased three vehicles from CarMax and sold two others over the last few years and received fair value across the board.In the last couple years, Ive taken three different top notch, top quality vehicles in for appraisal and received offers $2000-3000 less than what a dealership was willing to offer me.Tonight though takes the cake. I made an appointment for 7pm, checked in at 6:55pm. No one came to even start the process until 7:35pm just as I was getting ready to walk out. The appraiser was a nice enough kid, but then crickets for another 30 minutes.Finally someone else shows up, calls my name and says, Heres your offer, and it was pathetic. KBB says the low range of trade-in value for my vehicle was $3500 more than their offer and a full $4200 less than what the local Jeep dealership offered.Im done with CarMax. I will not recommend them ever again. On the contrary, I will advertise to as many as I can reach that it is a complete and total waste of time
I will never return. I made an appointment but waited over an hour without any assistance. Watched numerous employees chatting with each other but ignoring customers. I went to another lot & got a better deal for an even newer vehicle with less miles. So,it worked out for me.

I have now purchased two vehicles from this location and I have to say each time the experience is just better and better. Theres no pressure there is no forced sale theyre friendly theyre interested in what you want and what you can afford. I made a horrible mistake of trying a different location at a dealership and its night and day the difference between CarMax and a pleasant experience and a dealership at a high pressure sale. I couldnt imagine going anywhere else for a future vehicle.
I would not recommend Carnax or will I ever purchase a car from them again. It took me 3 tries to buy a car. Car #1; sold after I had put a hold on it. No money was deposited. Car#2; I immediately paid $899 to told purchase. Notified that the car was shipped for that price and given a time for it to arrive. No communication from Carmax whatsoever. Waited 2 was, finally called, and told it had been sold. I called the sending dealership and they said it had been shipped and on a holding lot. Mass miscommunication! Finally confirmed it was sold. With complete agreement that I would get my money back AND not have to pay for for a shipment for another car, I tried one more time. Car #3; It arrived. When I went in to pick it up, I was told by the floor manager that I would not get my $899 back because it cost so much to ship it. I did remind her of our agreement and her promise to me. Since I needed a car, I went ahead with purchase and now am fighting the refund on my end. You are better off going to a car lot, NOT this company! L. Tibbles
Hassle free, great offers for buyout. 2010 Kia Rio w 53k miles bought for 4k when everyone else offered under 3. We had potential buyers telling us we werent going to get a better offer than that. Also superior customer service. All members seemed well versed in the ability to provide a positive, well directed, and stress free experience. As a high volume retail worker during the pandemic, I know this is easier said than done. Props!

Just wow! Rather than haggle with the new-car dealer over a trade-in, I tried the Carmax online appraisal. After checking various pricing sites, I felt Carmaxs offer was more than fair. When I took the car in, the cleanliness and efficiency was impressive, and even better than the new car dealer. They gave me a check for the full offer and I was out in 45 minutes. Would recommend to all used car sellers and buyers.

The Carmax experience is in a league of its own; seamless, stress free, and embedded with professionalism.My ultimate goal was to be bought out of my loan, and after working with a couple dealerships, I was at wits end with their appraisal determination process and reasoning that I did not see it as a possibility. I thought I’d give it one last attempt, and give Carmax a chance and there are no regrets; car dealerships never again, and when I decide to own a vehicle again, I am going straight to Carmax.
I have sold cars to Car Max with zero issue. But buying a car was a train wreck. I am out of state. I went online, held the vehicle, got a call, did all the financing paperwork, signed up for the big boy warranty and sent a copy of my drivers license and insurance card. They said they would call me to confirm everything is all set before I hopped on a plane. Then silence. The next day the dealership texts me an hour before close saying my hold was expiring in an hour. I asked If my paperwork was ready. He said he hasnt seen anything. The Car expired and was sold the next day. Im glad I didnt get on a plane. Be careful of these guys. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing. They will waste your time.

I love that you can search for a car online and have it saved for you and schedule an appt to see it. You can also walk around the lot. They will ship cars for you to test drive (some have fees if they are far away). So easy and no haggle/no hassle!
Make sure you check your cars from inside and out.Make sure they actually try to give you the best interest possible with credit union and outside loaners instead, of house financing and make you believe they have the best % rate that no one will give you. Thats a lie!!Other than that, excellent Customer Service and very friendly..

There is nothing more stressing than dealing with people that try to push you outside of buying zone, when youre already dealing with the physical ramifications of the accident itself. This was my second car-buying experience at CarMax. My first car had gotten totaled so I needed to find a replacement ASAP. The first time I had bought through CarMax, I went to the Salem location and had an amazing experience. However, it unfortunately was not the same the second time around at the Beaverton location. My father and I got paired with salesman Clayton, and at first everything was fine. Then further down the line everything started to go downhill. There were HUGE issues with communication, regarding the in-app vs. in-person correspondence with financing, and other frustrating issues. My father ended up getting extremely frustrated, and to my surprise, Clayton our salesman, started arguing right back. He told us every customer is important to him, yet when he was arguing with us said, “I could have sold 3 other cars in the time it’s taking to work this out with you.” This was horrendous to hear because it made us seem like our business was not valued. This was only one of the snarky and rude comments he made to us throughout our difficult visit. At the end of the night, another miscommunication led us to not even get to take home the car at the end of 4 grueling hours, and we had to drive another two hours back to CarMax to pick it up the next morning. I am very disappointed that Clayton got credit for our sale, as he was disrespectful and exhibited extremely poor customer service. I hope Clayton never displays the same behavior to any other customers looking to purchase a vehicle through CarMax, as I would not wish this car buying experience on anyone.

Wife bought an Audi Q5 over a month ago. When it comes to paperwork, they DO NOT show the customer their inspection sheet when the vehicle arrives, we found a large star in the line of sight. They finally replaced it. When we picked it up,, a mechanic left a tool in the engine bay (Safelite), Rear brakes were worn, tires were at 4/32nds, their policy is they replace tire(s) at 4/32nds or less, they refused to replace the tires, 2nd day of owing it, there was a huge puddle of oil on our driveway, had it towed to Carmax, they said they installed the wrong oil plug and washer. They replaced it and same thing happened again. So we took it to Audi Of Beaverton, they did a full inspection, texted me a full documentation and video of the inspection and found a leaky power steering pump, carmax refused to replaced it. Now Weve only driven the car for one day. After two weeks at the Audi dealer, carmax FINALLY agreed to replace the power steering pump. BE VERY CAUTIOUS BUYING A CAR AT CARMAX. GET AN INSPECTION DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND GET DOCUMENTATION
Paid to ship 2017 SUV from Spokane. Took it for 24 hour test drive. Barely 5 miles out from CarMax in Beaverton the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with “transmission system issue” and the like. Also the dash would glitch out as if it was about to die. Ran diagnostics on it and 10 major engine and transmission codes came up. Took it back to CarMax and said no thanks. Car also had cosmetic damage. This was my first and last CarMax experience. To be fair the people were very friendly.

This was our second car-buying experience with CarMax, and both went very smoothly. Found a car this time right away, took a test drive the next afternoon, and pulled the trigger. The only glitch occurred when we went to pick up the car, only to discover that it had been transferred to another location across town. . . . which was kind of annoying. Otherwise, all went well.
I am seriously blown away in appreciation of Carmax encounter . I had recently experienced a breakdown of my commuter car and felt a need to buy a vehicle to get to work . I found a super nice car in Beaverton Oregon . I made the purchase in haste . About a week later my previous vehicle was found to be a simple and affordable cost . Return process with Carmax was incredibly easy and they even provided a LYFT home afterwards . All future car buying will be from Carmax !
