Modern farm style atmosphere with great air conditioning to boot. We gathered around a large 6 top table and had plenty of space for all of our apps and meals. The sweet tea was scrumptious and the refills came quickly. Our waitress was patient with our late guests and even offered up some of her favorite appetizers to try. The portions are massive and we had plenty to take home for tomorrow. The pulled pork was juicy and barley needed any sauce on it at all. I legitimately screamed when I saw how big the carrot cake was. WOW. Looking forward to another visit here soon.

I didnt eat in so I cant comment on the service but the food was tasty. I ordered the smoked wings and the seafood salad. The wings came smothered in a trio of sauces. Not my favorite but they were tasty and fall off the bone juicy. They were whole wings, so technically 12 pieces. Not a ton of smoke flavor though. The salad had fat juicy shrimp and a little bit of crab meat, but it was a large salad. If you order the salad you wont have space for much else. I didnt use the dressing that came with it, I carry my own. Overall a tasty meal.

I’ve been pretty pleased with the service when I come here. The bartender at the bar was very informative, sweet, and attentive. I asked for sweet potato fries before, but was unavailable. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by Christine, my friendly awesome bartender. She recommended the pulled pork breakfast nachos for brunch and I quickly agreed. The nachos came out and they were just an amazing marrying of ingredients. The combination of the sunnyside up egg on top, the sweetness of the BBQ sauce went so well with the tender smoke flavor of the pulled pork. I will be back again. Thank you so much for your wonderful recommendations and service Christine!

After reading such great reviews for BRQ, my wife and I visited on July 3rd to order takeout for our afternoon dinner. What a mistake! The ribs (their specialty) were dry, dry, dry. Even w/ the provided sauce, they were barely palatable. Maybe this was a leftover batch from July 2nd, but they were terrible. We dont understand the outstanding reviews. On the other hand, their barbecued beans were excellent which is why they get one star instead of a zero which would have been the choice had it been an option. Maybe Google should reconsider that choice for places like BRQ.

Extremely disappointed. This is my first time trying BRQ and I decided to try the BBQ salmon entree. While the salmon tasted excellent, the cut of fish was so small I don’t know how they could call it an entree. Moreover, l had to cut all the florets off the limp broccoli and prepare it myself before I was able to eat it. Half the plate wasn’t edible. I paid $26 for this plate and I only got about $6 in fish and $2 in broccoli.

To start, the only reason theyre getting 2 stars is because of our server, Colin (Not sure if this is the correct spelling). We got the chicken wings as a starter, and they were good. The house-made chips were good but wouldve been better had they been hot. I enjoyed the pickles, but not everyone will enjoy bread and butter pickles. My husband enjoyed the offerings of local beers. He was impressed that each beer was cold and served with an appropriate, cold glass. On to our entrees, the french fries were so salty they were inedible. Vice versa the potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread had zero seasoning. The pulled pork was okay, but the brisket needed help. The pretzel bun for the brisket was gummy in texture. The bbq sauces were good. We have no plans to return.

My parents and I arrived this afternoon around 3:05 and the restaurant was mostly empty except for one very loud 20-top. There were two employees doing *something* at the hostess stand, but they pretended like we didn’t exist. After a couple of minutes, a hostess appeared and asked if we needed a table. She walked off but didn’t seat us; a couple of minutes later someone else offered to seat us (but first tried to put us next to the very loud table).Upon being sat, our drink orders were taken and we were told that someone else would be our server. The drinks came, along with chips and pickles (pretty good), alas a server never materialized. We finally walked out at 3:25 (after leaving $8 on the table to cover our drinks).Maybe the food at BRQ is really good? Maybe it isn’t? I don’t know because they certainly didn’t want my business today.

I found BBQ Nirvana here and I have eaten a lot of BBQ all around the US. This is the best BBQ pork and chicken I have had in a long time. Fresh meat done to perfection that you just wanted to savor and not even swallow. It really did wake up the taste buds. They do not skimp on the serving. I order a regular serving and glad I did I took half of it back. The place is open and bright, but does not take away from the dining experience. Plenty of seating and the seating is comfortable. They have a full bar with plenty of selection and they feature several beers including local beers and the server was very knowledgeable about local beers and made a great recommending to me.There is a good selection on the menu from basic BBQ favorites such as pulled pork and pulled chicken. There are several different selections to choose from just with the chicken and pork. Good selection of BBQ ribs and other meats. Great tasting sauces from mild and sweet to a bit hot and even a sweet mustard BBQ sauce. When we were there they had a BBQ salmon that was done well and was not over cooked and being from Seattle we tend to be a bit picky about salmon. Watch out Ivars Salmon House. They also feature charred oysters and they just melted in your mouth. In talking with staff they are connected with the Louisiana culinary institute and it shows with the excellent level of food preparation with good creativity with menu itemsStaff was excellent. They were friendly and kept on top of things and spent a bit of timing discussing the menu items and how they are prepared. It is easy to find and access. They have a fairly large parking lot, but it does fill up fast. We got there about 5 one evening and glad we did, by about 5:30 the place was packed and the parking lot was filled. I know this is a good place because of that and you could tell that is was packed with locals. I have never seen so may LSU shirts and jackets (OK this was just a couple of days after LSU beat Alabama in 2019) Geaux Tigers. If you are ever in Baton Rouge and you like BBQ and seafood you got to check this place out.

The food scene in BR to me is special and near and dear to my heart. Going to school here gave me a special and unforgettable ability to try, what I feel, is some of the best food in all of Louisiana. Unfortunately, I never tried BRQ when I was originally down here.Trying it today however, opened my eyes and tastebuds to an absolutely delectable and amazing mix of flavors that came together in an orchestra of sweet, tangy, savory, and overall delicious symphony.I truly wish I could have been privy to the amazing things this place was doing and cooking up when I had the opportunity to go here frequently when I went to school here, and not limit my visit to a simple passing through of this incredible city.If you love BBQ, brunch, or a combination of the two, don’t miss out.

Review №68

In the words of a cringey millennial - thank you, BRQ, for BEING you. My dining experience here is the kind that I’ve only seen in youtube videos in big cities like NYC or Chicago. To start, the farmhouse aesthetic was so charming yet the clean colors and high ceilings also make it feel really modern and high end. And just a touch of femme with the fresh flowers on each table was super cute.I’ll try to keep the food review short and sweet since I tried so many things. The pepper jelly shrimp was interesting. I was a little taken aback by how fruity it tasted initially but once you really get to savor the well-seasoned (not to mention big and juicy) shrimp and crust it balances out perfectly. Probably my favorite item besides the dessert were the brisket debris fries! Fries topped with cheese, bbq sauce, baked beans and delicious tender brisket…just wow. It was perfect. I also tried pulled pork, pulled chicken and the ribs. Everything was so tender and flavorful. The bbq comes with 4 different sauces. I honestly couldn’t keep up with which was which but they were ALL extremely delicious to me. I wonder if they sell them bottled. The grand finale which made me feel like I was in a Food Insider video was the carrot cake! It is a massive 3-layer slice of carrot cake, packed with nuts with a divine cream cheese frosting and topped with crunchy candied carrot shavings (how perfect is that?), and some caramel. It can serve about hmm.. 1 to 10 people lolThe only thing that keeps it from a 5-star rating for me is that the sides weren’t as great as everything else. For me personally I like when the sides are just as excellent as the main course. The jalenpeno cornbread was a bit dry and I didn’t get the jalepeno flavor. Also, I thought the potatoes in the potato salad were too cold and “al dente”. I know potato salad should be chilled but it was almost like biting into cold water chestnuts. The actual flavor of the dressing was really good however. And the baked beans were just okay to me.OVERALL though I cannot wait to come back!

Best BBQ Sandwich E-V-E-R!We dined here for a late lunch, after discovering it on a “drive by” on our way to nearby Woman’s Hospital. We were seated immediately, as the lunch crowd was largely gone by the time we arrived. Our waitperson was very helpful, and guided us on our first visit, steering us toward the smaller portions and lower prices offered during the lunch period. After enjoying the barbecue potato chips and pickles, I enjoyed the BRQ Midnight Panini. The pickled vegetable slaw gave the pork and ham a delectable sweet flavor to accompany the slightly-tangy barbecue sauce. The sandwich was perfectly pressed on a 9-inch loaf of French bread toasted to a light brown and with a crispy exterior. The sandwich reminded me of Pressed Cubans I enjoyed in South Florida and quite simply may have been the best barbecue sandwich I’ve ever had.I upgraded my sides to the feta and herb fries for an extra $2, and well worth the upcharge. The crispy fries were sprinkled with tasty herbs, and the small chunks of feta were easy to add to almost every bite.We finished our meal quite full, and departed with a hefty portion of our Little Q lunch plate in a to-go box.Overall, this was an outstanding experience, and I’d highly recommend BRQ on your Baton Rouge visit.

Food was good overall. Pretty pricey..Some things were not cared for by all. The side dishes need some work in my opinion. Potato salad was very vinegary and not enjoyable for me. Baked beans also had an odd flavor and didnt like. The coleslaw was very plain with not much flavor. The bbq chips and pickles they bring to all tables were both great. The pastrami grilled cheese sandwich was very good. Pulled pork was good as well, probably the best thing of the bbq items we tried. The brisket was good though not as tender as I like or enough smoke flavor, I think they need to slice it thinner. Ribs were good as well, but again lacking much smoke flavor, they werent super tender more like a competition style rib. Carrot cake is pretty much a whole cake worth size slice, as it should be for 17 bucks, it was very good . Service was a bit slow and lacking for sure. I think waiter had too many tables .The appectozers were good. The smoked queso tasted fine but no smoked flavor at all. Brisket meatball dish was great.

We visited BRQ during the first week it had opened. Arriving around 12:20 during the lunch crowd had us waiting 15-20 minutes for a table. We decided to wait at the bar and try some of their signature drinks (inventive cocktails) which were half price. The tableside and bar snacks included seasoned chips and pickles. Both were very good, as we ate 2 bowls of each before even getting our food. For an appetizer, we ordered the Smoked BBQ Octopus. It was unique and good. Im glad I tried it, but I probably wouldnt order it again. For our entrées, we ordered 2 lunch specials: the hog and the jambon. Combined, these included pulled pork, brisket (1 slice), pulled chicken, ribs (3 ribs with meat), rather large pieces of cornbread, and 2 sides. We upgraded our sides to grits (very good and creamy) and greens (cooked perfectly just over-seasoned). All of the meats were tasty and seasoned. There were four different BBQ sauces that were given with the meat: original mild (normal bbq), SC mustard (ok), NC vinegar (my favorite- a good bit of vinegar), and La spicy (pretty good with a little kick). I didnt eat the cornbread, because we had so much food. However, my husband said it was good and ate almost all of his. I definitely plan on returning to try some more of their dishes.

Sat for over 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us and watched as others seated after us received drinks and chips. Service is severely lacking. Got up and walked out!
