We have used Shred-it for a number of years and are very confident they offer a great service.
I called and asked for a one time purge set up with three total dumpsters. I was signed up for 3 dumpsters every 2 weeks for 5 years. When I tried to explain that if they would pull the audio of my original call--they would see that I asked only for three total dumpsters--not an ongoing service. They are unwilling to work with me and get to the bottom of what I asked for and are saying that I signed a contract and will have to pay the whole term of the contract to cancel...which is about $5,000.00!!! They sent 11 pages over docusign and the terms were not on the first page--which is where you sign... The terms are all the way down at page 9. I incorrectly assumed that the person I talked to had listened and understood what I was asking for and sent me a form to sign to start the process for the three total dumpsters.DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE AND NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SATISFACTION!!
The prices are affordable but their customer service is disorganized. Their back office will transfer your call over and over to different departments, leave you on extended holds, promise to do a service and not show up. Its more hassle than its worth. Theres not an account manager to help customers navigate through the system. As long as you never need help, they are fine. After 4 years with Shred It, were switching to a local provider.
We have had service since July 2019 and due to Covid taking out 40% of our workforce and no one working from the office anymore, my assistant called to cancel service. She was given a confirmation number for the cancellation and all was great. THEN, 2 weeks later, a guy by the name of John Kim emails her and says we need to pay an early termination fee of $891.71. The rep that cancelled the account over the phone did not mention anything about an early termination fee and even provide the confirmation number that it was cancelled. The person that signed the agreement is no longer with us and was not authorized to sign the contract so I may be taking this approach now. DO NOT go with this company.
Shred-it is reliable and professional. We feel secure in their pick up and their protocol of service. The drivers are friendly, courteous and professional as well.

If I could rate this a 0 I would. Ive had service at our community for over 2 years. I recently requested additional service for the end of the year and they never showed up. Several more calls were made and they agreed that since they accepted our payment, they would service the account. Once again, they never showed up. After 4 calls, (and several hours of my time) they stated Since you are no longer with __ management company, we cant service your account. Although they have received my payment for over 2 years, including this month, and have never once asked for any thing from us to change the account. The checks they receive clearly state our property name and new management company - for over 2 years!!!! Im super disappointed. Will never recommend them again to another property or management company! Im calling ALL of my 30 years of property management friends and letting them know that this organization is really bad with customer service. We are talking $21 - to ruin a business relationship and create loss of current and future business.
UPDATE: 2 things. First: The response from Shred-it below is their generic one, I had called that number before the review below because they wanted me to since I wanted to cancel, so you want me to call that number again?Second: Ive been trying to cancel with them since I posted the review, they keep telling me the person in charge of cancelling is out, so they continue to charge my account because they have more tricks and tactics to continue charging you. They seem to think it Is legal to not cancel my account because their company has just one person that can do that and they are out.WORST customer service Experience as others have mentioned before. Ive been a long-term customer with monthly service. Recently I scheduled an offsite Purge service and I was quoted $213 for it. Service was done, I get my invoice and there are additional fees of almost $50 added including $25.56 Fuel Surcharge. These fees were not disclosed to me verbally when they quoted the service fee verbally. When I called about this they kept mentioning it is disclosed in their signature document (Fine Print). At this point I felt that I was tricked and gouged with this service. I asked for my account to be cancelled, thats when I learned that gouging is the least tricky part of this companys tactics. A very Rude and arrogant representative then comes on the line, GABRIELLE, who informed me that I was on a 36 months contract and cancelling would end up costing me another $500+ not including an additional bin pick up fee. When I asked how far along I was into their 36 months contract, she informed me 36 months. So they renew your contract every month so no matter when you decide to cancel, they can charge you their cancellation fee, wow. Gabrielle additionally kept talking and I would barely get a few words in and when I tried to get my words through she kept throwing in that she was being interrupted. This is the person the company relies on to get you to stay with them after a bad experience. If these practices, policies and customer treatment and service appeal to you then you should use them. I recommend staying as far away as you can from this company. Very disappointed.
UPDATE: After cancelling my account they said they would be here to pick up their bin on Tuesday, yesterday. It still sits on our front porch. I have sent 3 emails asking them when they were coming. I have not received one answer or phone call. Yesterday a girl called saying that she was coming by to get the bin...but did not show up. It seems that bad reviews are the only thing that get attention with company, so I am trying this route to see if I can get them to at least answer my email. (The person who contacted me saying they were going to come Tuesday for bin pickup did not leave a number. That is why I am emailing instead, fyi)===========================================================The WORST customer service I have experienced in quite a long time. When I did get a specialist (Gabrielle) on the line she would not stop talking long enough for me to get a word in and then suggested that I need to be accountable to change my schedule instead of them calling and making sure. Of course, they charged me for coming out and not having anybody there...when I TOLD THEM I NEED A PHONE CALL FIRST. Jeremy did call but I told I DID NOT need him that day...so he didnt even have to stop...but charged I was, anyway. I would rather haul my shreddables somewhere else than use them anymore. I told Gabrielle that its like checking yourself out at WalMart. I have cancelled my service and will look elsewhere.

DONT USE THEM!!!!! worst service and experience ever. The driver puts in whatever charge he wants to... the billing people dont answer emails, OR PHONE CALLS.... they send you bills that are wrong... they dont care... then they send it to collections, even if you have corresponded with them numerous times to fix their mistakes. WORST SERVICE PROVIDER EVER!Update... So after I put this review here... and on FB... they reached out to me... they promised they would refund me x amount... After 3 months... I reached out to them again... they then said they had done it... but it got stuck... I finally got a check for 75.00 today... This organization is a mess... Buy a super duper shredder... and do it yourself...
We have used Shred-It since 2012; make sure to review your lease because it will automatically RENEW after the 5 years. No one will notify you or ask you if there is anything you want to change on your lease. We are now required by the City of Austin to recycle 50% of our waste due to the size of our business. Shred-It could not provide us with the size container that we need to meet this requirement. I called today to cancel our 1 X per month pick up on a standard size trash can and they told me that my contract is valid until 2022. There is no way out of contract, even if they cant provide the size we are now required by the City to have.
This company had the chance to do great things in this city but the operations manager Gabriel Soto is unreliable, unethical, and lack of care for his employees is unacceptable. Which makes me wonder if he cant take care of his staff how is going to be able to care for companies needs. He has put his employees life endanger several times which I find to be unethical.
Similar experience to others....they scam you with their 5 year agreements that auto-renew like you are really going to remember.this company is trash. i guess ill be an unhappy customer for years to come.
Youre better off waiting for the sun to expand into a red giant and vaporizes your paperwork than waiting in that Shred Day line.

Buyer beware! This company has in extremely tiny print in their (5 year) contract that it auto-renews for 5 more years. Be very careful before signing. After utilizing them for 7 years and I called to cancel because the business I needed it for was closing. I called them and they were completely unwilling to work with me and wanted me to buy out the contract at $50 a month for 3 years. Teddy Burkett was responding to my emails and then suddenly dropped off the face of the earth when I asked to simply cancel and come pick up the box. As of now, no one will respond to me nor will they come pick up the box. Really terrible customer service and policy for auto renewal of a 5 year contract. Many states are making this illegal now.
This company bought CenTex Shred, with whom we were customers, and never notified my company - and never serviced our bins... It wasnt until I contacted CenTex Shred - that THEY notified me of the company change. I tried contacting Shred-It for several months. We were never serviced, so I just had our bins picked up and arranged service with a different company. Bummer. The people at CenTex were always friendly, helpful, and responsive. Shred-It is just a call center somewhere...
