They do not mention up-front that they charge $70/hour in labor for your diagnostic. Edit: I had it pointed out to me that the fee is listed on the service request I signed AFTER having turned over my laptop. To me, this looks like a receipt, NOT THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. If this is your only mention of your pricing, I would call that poor business practice.
Beyond disappointed considering the reviews. I took my laptop in for the cover to be replaced. They couldnt do it that day because they didnt have the part (totally understandable.) When the part arrived, I brought my laptop in on Monday. I was told itd be done very soon, probably within the hour.I didnt hear from them at all and ended up calling Wednesday. I asked if my computer was ready and I got some awkward run around answer that made me immediately suspicious. He mentioned my hard drive being old and needing to be replaced (my computer wasnt slow, I just wanted them to make sure I had the correct virus program). I told him that Ill think about replacing it but since I just put all this money into fixing my cover, I wasnt going to pay for another repair at the moment. Then he pushed again about getting a new hard drive put in, etc. and I said no. After I said a firm no, he quickly said Ill call you right back and seemed nervous. I thought it was really odd and texted my boyfriend saying something seemed off, especially because of how hard he was pushing for a new hard drive.Although he said hes call right back I did not hear from him all day. I called the nest day (Thursday) and left a voicemail, didnt hear back. Called again in the afternoon and finally got an honest answer...something happened while checking my hard drive and the operating system became corrupted and unbootable. Basically, my hard drive got messed up and Id need a new one.Mistakes happen, I get it. It was an honest mistake - I know they werent out to ruin my hard drive. What Im most disappointed with is the fact that he tried pushing me into buying a new hard drive (and paying for the labor) to cover his butt. When it was clear that I wasnt going to pay for a new hard drive and labor, he had to own up to the mistake. He did take care of the labor fee and did not charge me to put in a new hard drive (I ended up getting the newer one put in per his recommendation, so I did pay for the newer hard drive). I now see that I should have just had the same hard drive put in for no cost at all.I spent the extra money on a newer, faster hard drive but Ive had issues since it was put in. Since my hard drive crashed, Ive been booted out of all my saved accounts/login on my laptop. I already called once today to troubleshoot a problem Id never had before (it was a simple fix and he was very quick to help). But now I am unable to log into my email and my computer is acting slow almost (issues Ive never had in the past).Im all for supporting small businesses and everyone there was friendly. Im just disappointed with how everything was handled and how I was almost bullied into paying for their mistake. Im extremely frustrated as Im still being inconvenienced with new issues with my computer, having to keep contacting them for help.
We have effectively been screwed by Michael with Austin PC Tech. We brought in a brand new Mac laptop in June to get a RAM upgrade to handle working from home for a tech-based job. He did the repair and then decided to double seal the computer screen to the computer frame, thinking it would be extra secure. This seemed fine at first, but we started noticing that the screen wasn’t holding very well. Fast forward to the day before Thanksgiving - overnight, the screen fell out of the housing, smashed on our desk, and shattered the screen. The gap between the layers had let air into the computer, and there was rust inside the computer frame. At first we could only display the computer into another monitor, but the fan was loud and the screen would periodically crackle with snow and then subside. Then, the outside display wouldn’t display the computer at all. We immediately called Michael about the incident, citing photos of the damage and how there’s no way anything could have knocked it over. He was immediately skeptical and spent 15 minutes trying to hash out how his tape could not have failed - as if we don’t understand basic physics. After flat-out asking him if he thought we were trying to trick him, he finally agreed to start looking for a replacement part.We have been calling every other day for three weeks, and for the first week he updated us about trying to find a replacement part from overseas. But now he won’t even call us back or respond to our messages. Today was my last straw when the secretary ensured me he could call me before 1PM, and he didn’t. Now my $1.5k computer is completely useless and we can’t even get them to respond to us. He won’t admit that his work led to the destruction of our computer, and now he won’t even give us the good graces to follow up on what he can do to fix it. He has treated us like garbage throughout this incident and I’m convinced he doesn’t want to fix it because he knows we won’t pay full price for his mistake. Avoid at all costs.
My laptop had been experiencing issues since BEFORE the pandemic. After discovering my warranty was expired, I took my sisters advice in finding a small repair shop instead of seeking assistance from Geek Squad.Michael provided the diagnostic quote over the phone and even gave specific instructions on how to locate his office. He contacted me about my issue, he informed me what was wrong in terms I could understand.I spent less than $200 on my computer repairs and are extremely happy with the service I received. I recommend anyone in the Austin area to visit my tech angel, Michael.
They saved my Legion Y-540 experiencing a powerjack issue. I was told by the Lenovo shop in Austin that they had to replace the whole motherboard and it cost close to $900. Michael fixed it with a $15 part in the same week. I highly recommend!
Gave me plenty of options with varying costs to fix my computer, and a perfect job getting it back in working order
Great place! The two folks there I met were both extremely helpful. They bent over backwards to get my job done before the end of the day preventing me from having to wait for a long weekend to get my computer back.
Professional, informative and efficient. They fixed my computer screen and kept me updated with what was being done.
I was very impressed with the service I received for some work on my laptop. I took it in on Wednesday around 1 pm and they had the work done by the end of the day so that I could pick it up first thing the next morning. Robert was very detailed in explaining what my options were and I could not be happier. They could have easily led me down a path where I would have spent seven times what I did and I would have never been the wiser...but they didnt. Great service and they did exactly what needed to be done.
Great success repairing multiple laptop brands over past 5 years.
Both Michael and Robert really know their stuff, and it shows in the great problem solving that my friends, family, and myself have all been fortunate enough to have been provided with at reasonable prices on our various laptop and desktop computers. This is a long overdue 5-star review as it seems to have been 10 years or so since I first appreciated their services when a hard drive began to go bad. If they arent the right ones for any certain need, they are able to refer you to who is. A+! Thanks, guys.
Ive been going to these folks for years with various computers Ive owned or used at work. They are highly competent and their rates very reasonable, and they keep you up to date on the progress of the repair on your machine while its in their care. This is a top notch shop!
Really nice guy, took care of my issue fast
Solid, responsive IT support for the business I work for. Austin PC Tech does our IT soup-to-nuts, from setting up new hires with computers and everything they need, to managing our cloud-based shared file storage and office network. Highly recommend.
After my local computer repair shop told me that my laptop wasnt repairable, I called Austin PCTech. I spoke to Robert, who was very courteous and explained exactly what needed to be done. They were able to get my laptop up and running quickly, and their prices were more than reasonable. I wouldnt hesitate to call on them again!
Quick and reasonably priced.
Called two days after Christmas on the weekend and the gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and professional. Would use them again in the future for any of my computer issues.
Awesome experience! Saved my bacon.
Very helpful people, great communication.
Honest, fast, helpful
A good place to repair PCs
