This place is the real deal. This place has a little bit higher pricing but if you want a premium product you’ll have to pay a premium price. Front desk staff are extremely friendly and the owner is the most genuine person out there. I’m new to town and have been looking for a trustworthy place to take my vehicles and I have found the diamond in the rough.

I am new to Austin, and recently had a flat tire. I looked around for a mechanic I thought seemed trustworthy, professional, and could get me in quickly. Boy, am I glad I found Newmans! I had spoke on the phone with Mitchell, who said they could get me in first thing next day. I mainly worked with Mitchell and Matthew throughout the process of getting a new tire, and they could not have been more helpful. Their work was quality, and they have definitely earned a new regular from me.

The shop owner and his team were phenomenal! My truck over heated on my way back to Houston on my way out of Austin. David Newman and his team, from towing my truck, diagnosing the problem, ordering parts and getting me on my way in 5 to 6 hours. The pricing was reasonable and the service is exquisite. Newman Auto Shop has the true spirit of Texas! I 100% recommend this place for honest work. I also received a 3 yr / 36k warranty on his work free of charge!! I felt very comfortable taking my car to Newman’s Automotive. They were recommended by a friend when I wasn’t able to get into my usual place. They were able to take my car and assess it on the same day. They had all the parts needed and I was able to get my car back within a few days. David even helped me install a car seat into my mom’s car when she picked me up. And he was extremely helpful in explaining the recommended repairs on my car without being pushy. This is my new go-to auto shop.

Everyone I dealt with was very nice. I left my car with them over 4th of July weekend and had it ready early the next week. Prices were reasonable and not pushy on recommended repairs. Heard a few things that I had heard from previous service visits elsewhere so did a few of those recommended repairs for cheaper than I had been quoted elsewhere. Thanks Newman’s!

I had the pleasure of meeting Newman when I first moved to Austin and needed by vehicle inspected. Although this service cost under $10, Newman treated me so well. He gave me insight on how to navigate the new resident process, pointers on how to pronounce the Texas cities/streets and even recommended a strawberry patch that my family loved. All this and the inspection took 15 minutes whereas other places were quoting hours of wait time. Newman was very friendly and has that Texan spirit that makes me happy to be here. I will certainly be back if and when my car needs help.

The first time I took my car here I had a great experience. However, the second time it took them 3 days to even look at my car and then they called me at 6 pm (closing time) on a Friday (they are closed on weekends) to tell me I could come get it right now. I could not get there at that exact moment (did not have a ride) and so had to wait until Monday to pick it up. Better communication would have been helpful (I.e. we will have your car ready by the end of the day Friday) so I could have arranged for a ride at that time. Furthermore, when I went to pick it up Monday morning, my car was up in the shop/being looked at for a “final inspection” which confused me as they told me it was ready on Friday (were they going to give it to me without a final inspection?). Not sure I will take my car back here next time.

2011 Forester flunked emissions test and dealer wanted big bucks to replace catalytic converter. Got the work done here faster and cheaper. Did a rehabilitation of suspension system afterward and grateful for easy service while we were out of town.

Ive always had trouble with my alignment on my pickup. They took a look at it and said my alignment was maxed out on its adjustment. They added a kit that allowed additional adjustment and things look good. Hopefully I wont burn trough wheels so fast now.

I dont leave a lot of reviews but I just had to warn people about this place, it has a much higher review rating than it should from my experiences.Overpriced, over charge, rude, take longer than promise, dont communicate, and dont take responsibility when they break things.This was the second time bringing my car here, the first time was a diagnosis in which they tried to upsell me on replacing my hybrid battery when another company does it cheaper, they responded, they dont do it as well.I unfortunately didnt think too much of it so when I brought my car to them again for the engine being sluggish and the brake system light being on, thats when the issues really started- Since it was unclear what the exact issue was they ran a diagnostic and told me it was probably my battery but they werent sure. They told me if it isnt the battery we wont charge me for that part of the diagnosis. Well it wasnt the battery but the charge for diagnostic still showed up on the final bill- They told me they had to order a part which took longer than they said it would, which is fine, but then it took them another week and a half to complete the work. When I called to ask them what the status was, they said another job had priority- When I went to pick up the car the back panel of my key fob was broken off. When I asked them about it the owner (i assume) told me he would ask his technician, came back about 15 secs later and told me thats how I gave it too them and accused me of trying to cheat him.I told him that I keep this fob on my keychain and now there is no way it can stay attached to a key ring, so no, i did not.He asked me what I wanted him to do about it, I said he could pay for the fab that they broke, he said no, told me to get off his property and if I wanted to do something about it to go call the policeThe repair work is good, after one day, but i hope so for how much I paid them.Do yourself a favor and dont bring your car here.

I had an emergency where my brakes stopped working and my car was inoperable. I was recommended Newman’s by a friend and called them. They were able to pick up my car within the hour and at no effort on my end. The next day they called me to notify of the true issue and progress each step of the way. I had my car back within 24hours fully functioning. They even cleared some of my minor alarms like tire pressure at no extra cost. The entire process was so smooth and easy it was unbelievable! I can’t say enough good things about this experience.

I needed a new 12v battery for my 2010 Prius. They replaced this with a Toyota battery--total parts and labor cost $463.They also said I needed new tires. I chose mid-grade tires at $600 total cost.They also said I needed a tune-up including spark plug and air filter replacement . . . even though I had just done a tune-up with spark plug and air filter replacement less than 2000 miles ago. This cost $800 total. In retrospect, I wish I had turned down this service or asked for further explanation why I needed it and why it cost so much, especially since I had just done this and it wasn’t what I was taking my car in for in the first place.They also installed a catalytic converter guard for me at $375 total.Work took three full days.They were nice. Could have been a bit more communicative--especially about how long the work would all take.

I have a 2011 Subaru that needed a new transmission being it was older I did not want to invest in a new one they found me a used one at first it was not correct I went back two or three times and they did everything possible to make it right and in the end they did. So much so that I am going to bring my other car down there for them to fix as well. These are very professional very nice people to work with. I very much appreciate all they did.

Estimates way over-priced for basic material costs. After receiving a $1400 muffler estimate, as well as $1400 estimate for rotors and brakes, I shopped around and found I can save over $1000 for each item listed, and also properly welded instead of bolted on. They will jump at the chance to rip you off.

Was very happy with the service they replaced my timing belt water pump and fixed a short out problem with my ac. I will use them from now on I just moved to Austin and after searching the web they had great reviews and I took a chance and I am really happy I went here. Steve, Jeff, Mike, and David are just delightful human beings to work with. Ive gone in twice now, once for an oil change and a second time for general maintenance. Something that I noticed while I was waiting in the lobby during my first visit is that they really go above and beyond with their customer service.

David and Jeff were very helpful and friendly. This was my first time taking my Jeep here to get fixed up and during one of the worst snowstorms anyone has seen in Texas in decades. I was very impressed and grateful for David keeping in touch with me during those difficult times and working hard to get me my jeep back better than I left it.

Nice service, I walked in and was immediately greeted and taken care of. The place was clean, looked like everyone wanted to be there and was happy to help. Im glad I found them, I will take my car back in when needed and will recommend them.

When I dropped my truck off they actually drove me home which was such a nice courtesy (masks worn by everyone all the time!). They figured out I had a cracked flex plate in the engine, they were pretty busy so it took a little while, but they asked to make sure I had transportation in the meantime. I had another vehicle, but pretty sure they were going to lend me a car if I didn’t. Mike was awesome and kept me updated throughout the process. Once they got in there to replace it, they found an oil leak and called to ask if I wanted it fixed while they were in there. They gave me a super discounted rate to fix the leak cause they were already in there working, and everything they do has a 3 year warranty on it! Truck is running great, and Mike made me feel so comfortable during the process and earned my trust, so I actually traded cars when I picked up my truck and had them work on my maxima that had zero acceleration. They updated the software and found a broken intake valve. Nissan has the part in back order for 5 weeks, but they called around and got the part in 4 days and gave me a little 2 car discount as well! Both Vehicles are running great, and everyone was super nice during the entire process. Will definitely be going back if I have other issues with either of our vehicles!

I received a coupon by mail for an oil change at Newmans, so I decided to use them for not only an oil change but tire rotation and alignment that I thought was off. Their customer service and communication was excellent, and I felt the price was super reasonable (I saved $30 on my oil change with the coupon as well). They checked to make sure my alignment was actually off before performing the service so as not to add on additional costs when they werent needed. Everyone on the staff was super friendly and they got the work done quickly. I would definitely return for additional needs in the future, and like that this is a family owned small business- the owner himself was answering the phones and providing great service!

My son’s car started having major problems on our way from Oklahoma to Texas. We had it towed the last 168 miles to Austin. We took It to Newman’s Automotive since they could get it in and had great reviews. They found a problem that our mechanic in Oklahoma has not been able to find for 4 YEARS! Great staff and great service with a 3 year /36,000 mile nationwide warranty on what they did. I couldn’t be happier! The car drives better than ever!!! All the staff were eager to help fix it and had amazing car knowledge! Friendly and a pleasure to work with. Will definitely keep their phone number handy! You should too! :)

I had an excellent experience here. Friendly and fair. I thought that something was really wrong with my car and it would have been easy to convince me that there was. But they checked everything out, fixed the minor issues, and charged me way less than I expected to pay. Brought my kiddo in to pick up my car, and even she loved the saltwater fish tank ! They even gave her a shell that had once been in the tank. They’re my new guys!!

Long story short: tried to overcharged me by over 2x for a part that didnt even fix the problem they misdiagnosed.I had taken in my Audi for an oil change and was happy with their service, so I thought Id take it in for the code (P2404) it was showing. They confidently diagnosed it as a faulty leak detection pump, and quoted me $649 for the part. I went online and found that Audi sells it for $295. Upon confronting them, I got a sheepish oops with no explanation. I took it to a very highly reputed shop nearby to replace it. Turns out that didnt fix the problem. I wrote back to the owner (David) to ask how his mechanic had diagnosed the problem. Radio silence. As it so happens, replacing the LDP is indeed a _potential_ fix, but its not where a knowledgable Audi shop will start. That code can have multiple causes.Honestly, if hed even bothered to explain himself, I wouldnt be writing this review, but he didnt, so I am.

In addition to having a kind, generous staff, they offer quick service and super competitive rates. Can’t imagine going anywhere else in Austin after stumbling upon Newman’s Automotive. Mike must be one of the kindest people in the world.

My tire had gone flat on hwy 71 and I just happened to roll over by this shop. I went in to see if they could help me and I was checked in within minutes, my tire was off the rim. They got it over to the shop. Fixed her up and had her out the same day. Everyone was super nice and very professional. Ill definitely be coming back for future services.

I’d give this place 10 stars if I could. I was in from out of town for work, and hit a piece of scrap metal on the high way that slit the fuel hose in my jeep — no clue where to go I came across this place (it was close to 5PM) — they had a loaner vehicle for me to use to get back to my hotel while they fixed it. He is so honest, and kind, and helpful — I will be making trips back to Austin for oil changes and any other work I need done to my car just because I want to support his business & because I know it will be done right, and that he won’t tell me I need something that I don’t need. I walked in for an inspection and they got me right in. Gentleman at the front told me all about the salt water fish tank. Super cool.They accidentally overcharged me (POS error, nothing suspect) and took care of it on their side with no need to come back. I will definitely be back for more services. 10/10

They gave me a vehicle inspection report in a speedy, professional manner. A young man (tall, wearing glasses) gave me helpful info on the next step for me to take--going to Fry Auto Title for expedited title transfer paperwork. Overall, Im a satisfied customer and will be returning for more car work to be done. I usually hate taking my car in for service but my experience at Newmans was very pleasant. When I dropped my car off, Mike explained what they would do to diagnose my AC problems and then what the next steps would be. Later that day, I got a call describing the issue and what it would take to fix properly. The price was fair for basically getting a whole new AC system and Mike was very patient while I was deciding whether or not to do the service. Ill definitely be taking my car back to Newmans for any future repairs!

I’m hoping to start using this place regularly in the future. They take Snap Finance and are pretty nice and professional/respectful on the phone. I didn’t get my car fixed due to the unexpected and rather high cost of the repair i was quoted on. Wish I could have gotten more info on why engine “seized up”. I’ll be back to get repair done once I’ve saved up a bit.

I dealt primarily with Mike and Seth, and they were both fantastic. Paying for car repairs sucks. It always does. But when you feel like you’re getting honest service at a fair price, it makes it 100% more tolerable. Right before paying for my repairs, Mike realized that I was being charged $70 too much. He could have left that charge on there, and I really wouldn’t have known (my car knowledge is prettttttty limited). But he didn’t, and that small gesture will keep me coming back to Newman’s. I moved to Austin, and the first thing that I wanted to do was find an automotive shop that could take good care of my car. There are so many out there, it’s easy to get bad service, not here though. From the moment that I walked in I was treated with utmost respect, kindness, and professionalism.I drive an old car (98) that needed quite a bit of work. They tended to each and every problem with the precision of a neurosurgeon. I spent most of my time talking to Mike, the front desk operator and Tyler, a mechanic. They are both fantastic people and workers. Tyler did an amazing job on my car. I have absolutely no worries while driving my car now. 11/10 quality service. I won’t take my car anywhere else.

Great experience! Super friendly folks, the hospitality was on point. Went in for what I thought was a faulty/leaking oil pan, but it turned out I didnt even need any work done! I really appreciated the honesty. This was my first place in Austin I took my SUV to and will definitely be my home base for any mechanic work!

The guys I worked with at Newmans are super friendly, and they updated me every step of the way as they worked on my car. I also asked them to do a tire rotation and oil change while they had it. They happily obliged and it wasnt an expensive add-on. I would definitely go to them again for maintenance.

I had the alternator replaced on my Lexus RX with a new manufacture part (Nippondenso) about a week ago. I have not driven the car much since the repair because of the pandemic but the feel and the sound of my engine seems to be back to how it was before the alternator went out on me. No other place offers a free loaner car and a 3 year warranty on parts and labor which is awesome. My service repair representative Mike was outstanding. He was very friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and open and honest. These qualities are rare to find these days. They truly strive for quality service and customer satisfaction. I dont usually rave about a lot of places, but I will say I love the service. Its always fast and if it takes a few more minutes longer you are updated. The great service and really nice people.

Be prepared for them to try and pull a fast one. Cost over $500 for an oil change, a/c recharge, and wheel alignment. The owners son, Tyler, called me the day after they recharged my a/c and tried to blame it on an electrical issue with my fuse box even though it was already blowing cold according to him. The fuse that was used to tie into for an amplifier and a hardwire for a radar detector had nothing to do with the a/c. Was told when I picked up my car my amplifier/hardwire would be connected. They tried to charge me to hook them back up. After paying $500 Mike yelled at me “you brought your a/c in to be fixed? It’s blowing cold right?” Yeah Mike I didn’t bring it in to cause another problem. Never again will I use this business. Be wary.

Came in for an oil change before a big road trip and the mechanic noticed a bolt was missing. They fixed the problem at a reasonable price within an hour.The waiting area had nice comfy chairs and an extension cord with usb charging for your phones. The shop provides ice and water which shows the shop cares about their employees in the Austin summer heat.There is also a fish tank with an eel. If you’re lucky, you’ll be around for feeding!This shop is my favorite new shop in Austin. They have high quality equipment (snap on) and well trained employees. If I’m ever in the area, I’m bringing my suv here.

My family was on a road trip Memorial Day weekend and as we were ready to start our drive back home we noticed our tire pressure was lower than usual. We typically check all the tires before any big trip. Sure enough we had a leak. Not being from the area we we called many shops and were so thankful Newman’s was open on a holiday. They were so incredibly professional and quick to help us out. ::super important being as we had three kids who easily become bored:: they found a screw in our tire causing the leak and fixed it up. We don’t live in the area but I know anytime we visit if we need services we will definitely be back.

They were great (nice, fast, competent) until they attempted to up-sell me on an unnecessary brake job. I began questioning their integrity when they told me my 1995 Ford Econoline van drove like new after a basic alignment job. Also, don’t take their recommendation for their Fry Auto Title partner. Currently on my blacklist.

Seth was very friendly, knowledgeable & while all mechanics are expensive, Newman’s automotive is timely, polite, and professional. As always, consult your car’s owner’s manual first & do your research before ever going to a mechanic, but the bills they were giving me were fair. I will definitely be doing my mechanic work here from now on. I’ll be needing some more work done soon & now I know where my go-to mechanic is in Austin.
