Austin Animal Center is very well organized with a friendly and helpful staff. We visited the dog kennels and all the animals looked healthy and well kept, the facility was clean and cool inside on a very hot day. They make it really easy and informative if you want to adopt a dog, there’s a very detailed info sheet outside of each dogs kennel, including a scannable QR code if you wanna watch videos of the pup in action.
I had no idea what to expect on my first visit, and admittedly I was a bit wary that I would be seeing a bunch of sad animals in sad kennels. But this was not the case at all! The center was very welcoming, and it had a very good feel to it. I was very pleasantly surprised that I was able to just freely walk through various dog houses and see all of the canines, even though some were barkers which made it harder to connect with those that were quiet and observant. Overall, though, it was a good experience, and my kudos to Austin Animal Center for doing such a good job caring for so so many!
The staff is awesome I found two wonderful little sisters that are now part of my family and they are happy since the people who had adopted them first brought them back in less than a week they now have a forever home and were all happy the black one is named Hecate and the tortoise shell I named Sparkle because she just shines and neither one cannot stop licking me Sparkle more I dont know if they are grateful, thirsty, or just tasting me in case I suddenly died and can no longer operate a can opener LOL and they love their brother another rescue whos the green anole name 🐉 Dragon
They were helpful and very friendly, made sure to check out all angles before you get your pet- oh and you still need the mask.
Amazing experience! My husband & I adopted a kitty cat & the staff were very friendly and helpful. Informative as well! Adopt don’t shop!
I like the way they have managed to take care of so many animals and doing it well. Anyone who chooses to work with these animals truly care. To even be a tech you have to go through a selection process, make good grades, and eat dirt for your whole career. If thats not love I dont know what is.
Loved this animal shelter! They set us up with our amazing puppy quickly and gave us all the support we needed during the process.
Amazing staff and facility, they went above and beyond to help my baby! I owe these guys more than I will ever be able to repay them!
The staff was courteous and knowledgeable...went out of their way to be helpful
God bless these people for the work they do. I visited this facility today as they were so kind to take in an abandoned kitten family we had found at the side of the road. Clean, considerate, and compassionate.
They made a big mistake initially but once it was brought to their attention they did everything humanly possible to correct it. They did, everything is okay, they seem to care a lot for the animals in their care. They also waived all fees I would normally be stuck with. Alls well that ends well and Im satisfied.
I had such a nice time here. The facility is so large, so nice, with so many animals to choose from (which is good because lots of choices, bad because... wow, cant believe so many animals dont have homes). I had a dog recommended to me based on my needs by a volunteer within the first 5 minutes of browsing the dogs, and I left with her the same day. Process was so quick and simple and painless!
Met some cool dogs and adopted one you should too!
We got a puppy from the shelter which we had found on the website. Staff are helpful; dogs appeared clean and wanting attention. Puppy was ready at agreed time. After a couple if days
We adopted our second cat peaches (at the time Garfield) here. I was impressed with the catteries here and all the cats seemed happy and healthy. We are hoping to adopt a third soon and will definitely be back here to look.
Adopted 2 of my babies from here. Process was easy
It’s an incredible animal center. In fact, I’ve lived in many cities across the U.S. and it’s the best animal center I’ve EVER seen. Incredible people. My experience December 31, 2015 was incredible, I adopted my first dog, Journey and I still love her with all of my heart today. We have the best friendship. I’m coming back soon to find her a brother!
These people are awesome and they truly care about animals! I brought in a stray dog and they were able to take him without giving me a hard time. I would definitely recommend this place!
Staff is very friendly i adopted Perla from them, staff always make sure you take the perfect animal for your family
Austin animal shelter has its act together. Professional staff. Great with animals and have been a pleasure to work with. Also this will now be the second dog l have adopted from them and l have had very good outcomes. I highly recommend them! 5 stars!!!!!
So many beautiful animals that need homes! I wish I could take them all..very nice people! Great facility!
We are very excited. We had an addition to our family today. We named her Zoey.
Great organization! The girl at the door was a little rude but thats a her problem. The Pet Resource Center was able to help me out with a brand new crate for my puppy. Im grateful🌻
We got our baby mouse from here. Shes a full blooded staffy and shes been with our family almost 9 months. Shes been a blessing, loving, and so supportive and protective of my children.
Its a very nice place where you can adopt a pet : Cats, dogs or rabbits. The stuff its very kaind ready to help you with all your questions about the pets; so please adopt the animals they need our love.
Our Harley has been missing two months. Austin Animal Shelter was able to trap her and bring her home to us. Her sister, Daisy, is thrilled. Thank you so much.
I love going here because they really care about the homeless animals that come through their shelter.
They do a bang-up job for their limited resources and I highly recommend adoption of buying a dog elsewhere.
Okay! There are some cuties here an not your man, ha!..Fr. I had no ideas lost/ stray pets were at an all time high of not being with owners. The Austin Animal Center at this location is doing a wonderful job so far of hydrating and accomodating animals here at this location. There were plenty breeds especially pits. We are waiting for Australian Shephard/s to reappear, so if you have one, donate. please! Happy Friday!
THIS MARVELOUS 9. YEAR OLDALIEN IS SO INTELLIGENT!! I LOVE HIM.WE HOOKED UP AT AAC IVE HAD HIM ABOUT 4 MONTHS . WE WATCH GUNSMOKE TOGETHER ALL DAY IF WE CAN.SOME TYPE OF OLD WESTRRN.
Loss Animal staging reclamation an adoption center stray pets come in everyday they hold them about 4 days you can adopt pets. The compound is large enough to hold a sizeable amount of dogs an cats... There are some small pets eg birds hamster mouse rabbits etc that may be present also. Friendly staff.
We had a great experience adopting our boy Murphy from AAC. They helped us coordinate a visit with the foster of the dog we were interested in. When we decided to move forward with adopting him it was a quick and efficient process. We were able to bring him home the next day! Because of COVID his adoption fee was even waived. He is such a sweetheart and we couldn’t love him more! Highly recommend adopting an adult dog. It was nice to skip right to the good stuff and not have to worry about house training and whatnot.
Such a wonderful place with people who genuinely want to fit you with the perfect pet!!
Very nice experience! Always heartbroken to see the puppies but the amenities and works seems to be a bit better there then your average center.
Good place for the situation.Picked up a rescue all neutered and up-to-date on shots. Extra meds to go with. They are doing their best with the current conditions.
Absolutly fantastic 👏 WOW people, loving caring, they did a fantastic joeat, with my great dane/Labrador during my stay in the hospital, I couldnt find a dog sitter before being wished off to hospital for s heart problem (3 days/2nights)Thanks again guys youll did a great service for both the population 😀 at large and poor me, now beginning to accept the fact that at 83 BELLA is not a puppy any longer, sooooo I am looking for good home if youre interested contact the AUSTIN ANIMAL CENTER @..................
Dr. B. is great! Clean, super friendly, and most importantly straightforward and honest.
Wonderful staff and process. Thank you for making my adoption experience easy!
Really nice people working there. Facility was very clean. Pets are well cared for..
This is the most beautiful pet shelter in the country. My husband and I adopted a dog 4 years ago, and she became the first member of our family. We moved to NY, and this week we came to visit Austin. As part of our visit we took our toodler to see the center to teach her about rescue and adoption. We will be always thankful of this place. The volunteers have huge hearts, and make this place feel like home for so many animals.
If you are looking for an animal shelter that is no-kill, professional, and exemplifies the Austin spirit, look no further. I work as an Animal Enrichment Volunteer, so I am able to witness the ins and outs of the facility. The staff are extremely professional and they make the adoption process very easy. The kennels are wonderfully maintained and it shows that the local government values the shelters presence because it continually is being upgraded. Some of my happiest moments in this city have taken place at the shelter, and to me, its a little slice of heaven.
Austin Animal Center was a great experience it would have been nicer to have left with a furry friend all the small pets had been adopted but if your looking for a huge pet this is the place to find a friend, volunteers were friendly the kennels were clean but with the covid situation you have to stand outside in a line for a bit best to make an appointment
They need experienced adoption coordinators to help facilitate more programs that help get the animals more exposure to be adopted, more foster programs, foster to adopt internet-based, coordinators to work with rescue organizations like boxer resuce, great Pyrenees, great dane rescue (paws)Austin pug rescue and many more rescues to help pull these ani.als to make more room for lost animals.
Booking an appointment was a breeze. The facility was very clean and organized. The staff very friendly and helpful. The Covid-19 safety precautions are great. Tons of dogs, but not many cats in shelter. Overall a great experience.
Came here for a volunteering event with my company. I’ll admit, any animal shelter is going to be sad to come to, but this place takes very good care of their animals. They have many many dogs and cats that could use a good home. I came here to help walk the big dogs and the small dogs as a volunteer I would encourage everyone to come here and volunteer to these sweet animals. Some of them are scared and need some extra love. I will be back to volunteer here for sure.
Ive adopted my cat here in the past and Ive visited many times before and never seemed to have any problems until today. I came back for a 2nd adoption and something about the staff working were really rude and seemed to be annoyed when Id try and ask for assistance. I wanted to get inside the kitten room but you need to be walked in by a volunteer or staff. So I waited and waited, didnt see any staff for a long time until finally this young girl appeared and I quickly approached her. I asked her if I could enter that room and she reacted with a half eye roll/sigh and asked if I was REALLY considering adopting... I understand that yall are pestered with windowshoppers but for those who actually walk in looking to adopt and to get treated this way really discourages anyone from wanting to adopt at this shelter. She waited in the room with me and I could tell that she didnt want to be there. I felt rushed and uncomfortable so I left the shelter since getting assistance from anyone today seemed to be a nuisance.
They are great to work with as a foster and a place to find a furry companion.
Pound puppies are the best! We got this guy from AAC many years ago and he was the best dog in the whole world. We also fostered a young dog from AAC and she was very sweet and found her forever home after about a month. Most recently we have worked with AAC to spay cats in our area and while they could be more organized (AAC + Austin Humane Society), they are working hard to do everything they can.
I went to go get a cat. I picked it out online and filled out all the forms. Made an appointment. It was sleeting & raining. The front gate was locked And there was a sign saying go to the back gate. Well I don’t live in that area I don’t know where the back gate is and it was raining and sleeting such took me about 30 minutes to get to the back gate When I get to the door the woman screeched at me “YOUR LATE”!! She was so incredibly and unbelievably rude and snotty and unreasonable I left. When I was driving off she actually called the cops on me just because I wanted a cat I mean I still want a cat but I’m thinking about going somewhere else because he’s people are incredibly unprofessional. I would look another place if you want to adopt. I just feel sorry for the animals. I doubt I’m first person she drove away with her obnoxious lack of personality.
Best place to rescue a dog and the staff is super friendly and helpful.
Clearly y’all don’t actually care about the well being of the animals under your care, you have amazing workers there doing great things for the dogs that need homes by promoting them in a positive light that grants them an opportunity to be seen by a larger audience and better their chance at a forever home but rather than encouraging this, because it does indeed FIND HOMES FOR THE DOGS the higher ups are ruining this, y’all should be discussed and ashamed of your selfs for Punishing your employees for helping find these dogs homes. It’s unprofessional and the dogs deserve better than this. Do better and allow for the dogs to be advertised so we can find homes for the babies who need it. Clearly this place needs better management and leads who actually care.
Great service from everyone. they are very knowledgeable and friendly. rescue and injured animal care is amazing.
Great people work here. There is always the bureaucracy of dealing with City stuff, but they do a great job within the system. Adrienne Clark and Erin herren and Erin Colman are just the best!
My husband and I have adopted to chihuahuas from Levander Loop Animal Center and we are so happy with them they are like our children... they have been a blessing to us. We thank the staff and Austin Animal Center for being such a pleasant and loving place for all animals God Bless the staff for being awesome. They do a great job.
My son got River, his fur buddy, here. Great staff.
Ive volunteered at Austin Animal Center for ten years as a dog walker, and highly recommend it if youre looking for a way to stay in shape, contribute to the community, and meet precious pups. I also foster kittens for the shelter, which is a great way to help AAC handle the influx of baby felines in the spring and summer. Austin is lucky to have such a well-managed city shelter.
Wonderful staff! Adoptions are free! Please lets help them find good homes everyone!
They were amazing trying to help me adopt my new fur baby that I had found on my property. They really care about the animals and i appreciate everything they did to help her.
I am so grateful for the animal center, because our cat had just died two weeks before, and we wanted to rescue a couple of cats. We didn’t intend on rescuing a three-year-old cat but she was so amazing we could not not rescue her! And then the kitten just started doing backflips when we walked into the room and reaching out of the cage and talking to my husband, and that was it - he had claimed us! The little cat is now called Ivan the terrible, although he’s really not terrible – he’s really curious! But its a Norwegian name, and the female we have named lady Astrid because she is a Norwegian Forest cat! but who knows what we really call her! Sometimes queen Latifah is she lays around and walks around like she’s a queen. I hope this helps you guys! I’m a huge fan of the animal Center and Wood courage anybody Who is serious about having an animal to go through them.
Love this place! So loving and caring.
Top notch shelter. Just adopted our little stray Leo. Excited to nourish him to health.
Not sold on the way they run this place. Very strict with appointment times even when they werent busy, also some pretty dirty kennels. Lots of the same kind of dog, which was a little sad to see but understandable. Not the best experience. Lots of pushy employees that left me feeling a bit uncomfortable.
I love it, they gaved us good service the pups r very good taken care of too. I adopted a dog and i am going to get her on monday❤❤
I tried adopting a dog named balto and when i entered the hallway he was too agresseve and too big!, please add smaller dogs.
Nice clean and well maintained.
Great operation.Huge undertaking and the staff is amazing. I waited in line this morning very cold for a pass to adopt. There they were baring the weather as we all are there for the same reason for quality of life for our 4 legged friends plus others. THANK YOU
I have adopted 2 dogs from here and it is a wonderful place to adopt
Came to their adoption weekend and walked out with the perfect addition to our family. They were very friendly and had really great COVID protocols in place. The staff were friendly and the animals are well taken care of. The best moment was seeing a shelter favorite get adopted and there wasn’t a dry eye in the area. They really care about what they do.
They used to be great. However, during covid and under the leadership of Don Bland, they seem to care less and less about the animals and customers. Don bland has outright said that animals are “inventory”... pretty sure he only cares about moving them and keeping under budget. The Pet Resource center used to be helpful but now doesn’t give a flying F about you or the animal. Unfortunately we need them to help with the city’s animal welfare so not sure how to address except for a bad review in hoping they will be better. Please be better... for the animals sake.
