Great place! Nicest staff, super flexible. Truly one of the best gym experinces ive ever had. Go give them a try!
These guys are dirty when it comes time to terminate your membership. As a college student, I finished school and moved. I was not in a contract. I had a month-to-month membership.I called and told them I wanted to cancel my membership and they hung up on me. So I called back. They wanted proof that I moved, and for me to fill out a form to cancel. (I was not in a contract)I filled the form out and was charged again 3 times after I moved. They told me later that it would be a month to “process” the cancellation.Seems like a way to get a few more payments out of their members before it’s over with.I can’t imagine a cancelation being so complicated to take 30 days.See about paying upfront if you’re dead set on joining here. Tiger Iron is also a great gym. I would recommend looking into them
The best gym in Auburn! I have gained not only a great gym to workout at, but I gained a family that encourages and motivates me. Honestly, Max has the best gym staff that I have experienced. The trainers are great as well and help you accomplish your goals. The equipment is nice and very clean. I could not recommend a better gym to be apart of in Auburn. If you are reading this and considering to be a member of Max Fitness Auburn, come join the family and you will not regret it!
Havent lived in Auburn for two years, called them, filled out cancellation form few times and i continue to be charged. 2 years=$360 into air that i never was able to use
Great place but it seems small and crowded because the training areas are so close together. Ive built up a nice frame in there tho.
The most fye gym in auburn, alabama hands down!
Drew from personal training is amazing! Staff is great. They were crystal clear about the prices, gym policies and cancellation process when I signed up. I used to be in shape but gained a significant amount of weight after becoming chronically ill. Back in the gym. I’m 100 plus pounds overweight and nobody here (staff and gym members alike) have been negative towards me. So if you’re reading this, this is your sign. The reason I’m giving this gym three stars: Weight and cardio equipment seems old and worn. Cardio equipment is often broken and in need of repair. The machines have been beaten down by people not respecting the equipment. Also, the equipment itself just doesn’t seem clean. To be fair, the gym floors and bathrooms always are. Positive staff attitudes make up state of equipment. Also, the vibe in the gym is a little strange for me but I know this is because so many people in this area are ignorant about Islam. I am a Muslim woman and deal with the usual glares and stares. I’ve never had any issues with the staff. I wear hijab to be modest and my modesty does not make me unkind. To quote Kanye in regards to some of the attitude I get from my fellow gym members, “That ain’t Christlike.” I could quote the Bible but if you’re reading it, like you’re supposed to, you should already know your attitude is unacceptable.Read a Quran (or your Bible) to free your heart of hatred. Stop feeding into the hatred CNN, MSNBC and Fox News create. I also recommend watching some Mufti Menk on YouTube. ❤️✌️EDIT: Turns out the former management made an mistake with our billing. The new GM fixed it and was very kind about it. For an individual or couple membership the price is very reasonable.
Love Max Fitness! I have been a member of Max for over 10 years. We have the best group fitness instructors. If you love classes then join our gym. They started a PUSH class which has been so much fun and has truly challenged me. Its the interval training plus coaching that Ive been needing! From Pump to RPM to PUSH I cant get enough! There are so many other opportunities so come and check us out!Strength training, personal fitness, Zumba independent work outs, you name it! Theres something for everyone at Max. And, their staff are really nice!
I have been a member of Max Fitness for about a month now and absolutely love it! I have been working with personal trainer David and he is FANTASTIC!!!!! The gym is being constantly sanitized and that provides me peace of mind as I work out in this pandemic. Also, I absolutely appreciate their reasonable rates.
Been a member since they opened.Hours are less since Covid, hopefully they will at least add another one or two during weekday evenings soon.Lots of space and equipment, not too crowded
If I could give this place a negative 5 star review, I for sure would. Do not join this gym, or sign any contract. The individuals who work here only care about the money and make it SO hard for you to cancel the membership. Definitely would NOT recommend them to anyone.
Great facility. Helpful staff. Angie Perry, my personal trainer for a year, was terrific!
Group Fitness @ Max is awesome, I have made so many friends with similar goals.
If you sign up for this gym and need to cancel for any reason you will regret it. They will not let you out of the contract EVEN if you provide all the correct documentation and follow protocol to the T. Avoid this place at all cost
Avoid at all costs, was told I had signed up for a 12 month membership which turned into 18 months magically and when I contacted them to see when it ended I was told a date and of course I was still charged afterwards, attempted to call them multiple times to get the membership cancelled but the lady there never answered or I was told she wasnt here... Avoid doing business with them unless you have money to waste. And good luck cancelling your membership !!
Does not recommend this gym to anyone. All they want is your money. I was attending this gym but when covid came everything closed. When things opened I still decided I was not ready to go back to the gym due to this pandemic. When thinking about going back I ended up being in a car accident which caused me injury. The accident caused me to do months of physical therapy and I’m still not 100 percent. I paid for the time I used the gym, etc but this gym took to collections as if I owe them over $3000. HOW!? Please don’t go to this gym they are a total rip off!!!
Signed up for a membership here when I was in college. Was never notified of any outstanding debts or payments, even when my contract was up. 7 years later... what do you know, they sent my information to a collection agency and this has been negatively affecting my credit. What kind of business doesnt notify their customer before they send them to collections? I would have paid what I owed to them 7 years ago had they made me aware. I would advise against getting involved with them to begin with. The gym was sub-par, at best.
Manager was not professional he was very rude. I sent a request off the webpage but never herd anything back from staff. Joey gave me false information about club promotions then got argumentative.
Hard to cancel a membership. Told them not to sign me up for auto enroll but found out the hardware that they did anyways. While talking to the employee doing my paperwork so I could sign up asked if it would help my credit for this contract and was told that this membership does help grow credit. Turns out that it doesnt at all. Biggest waste of money Ive ever spent and im sure that they will try to hit me aith a debt that I dont owe. They made me pay for my membership when I worked there and still got lied too when they said they would cancel my contract. When I worked there the whole gym was so filthy and the manager Jake would not buy more cleaning supplies so I could do my job. When covid hit you would think that they starting cleaning more but no the gym actually got much more dirty than when I worked there. They didnt pay me for a solid week that I worked there and I just gave up on trying to fight it. Please dont sign a contract here. Just read the reviews
Trainer/manager jake walker real disrespectful not professional used profanity and told me I never have to come back to gym
Solid gym. I am training here, for the holidays. Good vibes.
PLEASE DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT HERE!!! Every time I call up there I get different dates that my contract expires. They will scam you & will not let you out of your contract!! I’ve been charged several months after the date I was told my contract expired. I got an email about my cancellation and that someone would be getting in touch with me shortly. This was two months ago and I have not heard anything. Unless you like having money taken out of your account way past what you signed up for, don’t do it!!!!! I wish I would’ve taken the bad reviews seriously before I signed a contract with them.
Very difficult to talk to people, in particular in regard to fees and cancellations. Due to Covid 19 my wife (the member) does not want to go to the gym. However, after reading all the contract issues from other people it is clear to us that we are stuck with this gym until the contract ends. I will be making monthly request to terminate the contract, as I want to make sure that our contract ends and this nightmare is over. They always refer to the contract. Have a question? oh, in the contract it says this and that. They hold that over your head and do not consider other situations. Example- You could be pregnant and not able to go, however your membership will still be charged (this happened to a friend of ours, who has since returned to her home country).Dont get me wrong-the people at the place are friendly. However, when it comes to contract and money issues that changes.Update: We submitted a 2nd request for cancellation, and actually got a call back. We were able to cancel my wifes membership by paying a buy out fee.Although not ideal, it did get my wife out of the contract. To the woman that called- thank you!
Max fitness is great. The facilities are clean and maintained. The staff is friendly. I also love Honestly Smoothie being a part of the building. Good smoothies and great workout. What more can you ask for?
Please please do not go here. All they care about is money. It took me forever to cancel my membership with these crooks.
Max (Auburn) is awesome! From the moment I walked in I noticed how clean the facility was. The staff is so friendly and they remember your name and make a point to speak to you... especially if they notice you stopped coming as often 😂 I’ve always been extremely anxious in a gym setting, but I feel so at home here! I even feel okay asking how to use certain machines. It’s so spacious, even when it’s crowded you don’t feel like it is. It is a little more pricey than some places, but I feel it’s worth it. Tanning, sauna, and classes are included. Besides that, feeling comfortable in a gym is worth the price to me. I 10/10 recommend joining here!
I can honestly say Max Fitness is one of the best gyms I have ever attended in my entire life. The staff is so welcoming, and encouraging. I feel so comfortable there as a member. Max Fitness is a life time membership for me, even if I move, I’m attending a Max Fitness Gym!! I love walking in the door, and seeing that smile on Miss Emily Face. I advise anyone to go sign up for a membership there. Miss Emily will be welcoming you with a smile. No, only miss Emily, but everyone welcome you with a smile. They don’t just sign you up for a membership. They talk to you, and make you feel special as a member. It’s not a walk in and walk out gym. It’s a walk in happy, and walk out happy gym. I been with this gym for 2 years. I lost 68lbs total, and I’m still going. Plus they have a kids club. You get to drop your kids off for two hours, and workout. You can’t beat that. Thank you Max Fitness for making my life a little more better everyday.
I love this gym and the personal training program! Evan is my trainer and this whole experience has changed my life. I began at Max three years ago, and I only wish I had started sooner! This is a nice gym with lots of equipment, and great people.
Ive been a member here since 2008. Its a great place to workout. They have everything you need to meet your fitness goals.
Great freaking gym! Very helpful staff! I’m from out of town and they really accommodated me while my family was at a swim meet at Auburn University! I’ll be back! Highly recommend.. Andy
Great gym! David the personal trainer is great and will definitely get you the results you want to see! BUT Its INTENSE, so BEWARE!
Cannot cancel membership. Being overcharged. Never seen this amount taken by this gym. Business said they were pausing memberships but Im still being charged. The company is designed to trap people into memberships. TERRIBLE.
Fun and well stocked with machines to have a great workout. The staff is genuinely nice and goes beyond a reasonable call to duty to ensure that all is well with the member. I love the professionalism of this staff I will definitely recommend this gym to everyone interested in getting back on track.
This place has really turned around the past few months! The employees are so nice and the facility is always clean. Every time I’m working out there’s someone out cleaning the equipment; as a germaphobe, I appreciate that🙌🏼 Overall, great place and respectful people.
If could give this gym less than one star, I would. The management here is a joke. Everyone just redirects your call to someone else because they are too lazy to actually do anything. I joined here for the child care. Ultimately, I cancelled my membership because my daughter got the stomach bug every time I left her in their nasty child care center. The classes here are very repetitive and also not very good. So after cancelling my membership, they continued to charge my credit card for months. Finally I had to cancel the whole card because they would not stop and never could talk to anyone helpful. Beware this place. They are a scam.
Max Fitness has the worst customer service ever. Im still trying to get out of my membership that was only for one year and Im still being charge, I was told my contact went into auto-renewal. In order to cancel you have to go to the website and submit a cancellation request and wait for the corporate office to cancel and no one is never in the office to answer the phone (corporate office). I see there is some good review please do not believe in those reviews its was just for a tee shirt, max was running a promotion. A good review for a free tee shirt. This place is a scam if you are in the auburn/opelika area please stay away from this gym
DON’T JOIN. I liked the atmosphere at the gym well enough, and the cost and location worked at the time, but when I graduated and wanted to cancel my membership it was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I wouldn’t wish this insanity on my worst enemy
Greatest gym ever. Auburn is a wonderful place and I love max fitness! Please come to this gym you will love it. War eagle
Very well run gym. The manager Jake really cares about building relationships with members, and he has always been nothing but helpful whenever I had questions or problems.
PUSH is a great addition to Max Fitness!!Great group classes, energetic and friendly instructors!!!!!!
Ive been coming to Max Fitness for over a year now, and I must say this is like my second home. Its the first gym I can honestly say I enjoy coming to, and the staff is great. We are one big fitness family here. Plus my son loves the kids club!!!! Thats always a plus when I have to bring him with me.
Wonderful gym! The people are always so friendly and helpful. They have every machine I could think and enough of them to always be available. I drive 45 minutes from dadeville to come here and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.
If I could rate 0 stars I would, don’t waste your money. I’ve tried getting out of my contract for a year now!!!!! The customer service is a joke! STAY AWAY FROM MAX FITNESS.
If I could give zero stars I would. I had a terrible experience at Max Fitness. When trying to cancel my membership they continued to charge my account even after I had talked with multiple employees, and each told me different information about my membership. I would not sign any contracts here again, and cannot wait until my membership is finally cancelled. Their customer service department cannot get on the same page and they tried to tell me that I was lying when I tried to explain what the other employees told me. Absolutely worst experience I’ve had with any kind of customer service.
(Preface: I was a member with the same prestigious Golf Country Club with fitness center for over 12 years and decided golf was not my cup of tea. retired from the Club). I joined Maxfitness because it was very close to home and a couple of long time acquaintances were members. I found the range and quality of equipment satisfactory. And staff was most courteous and professional. My concern lies with the current Manager. Allow me to share my experience. One day I was in the mens locker room with other men in the process of showering, changing clothes, or using the urinals. I, along with another man, were in the process of relieving ourselves at the urinals when I looked back and saw the cleaning lady walk behind us going about her business of cleaning the locker room. I went to the Manager to report the incident commenting that the cleaning women was cleaning the Room and that there was no sign at the entrance to the locker room that the cleaning operation was underway; hence, temporarily closed. He responded by asking me what I wanted him to do about it. I responded by saying that, except in emergencies, it is protocol to perform the work during low usage times, to post the sign, and to close the locker room for a short time during the operation. His only comment what do you want me to do if someone complains for not having access to the Room. Obviously, he didnt/doesnt understand protocol.
The equipment was clean!
Excellent gym for serious lifters. Visited while I stayed in Auburn and I was impressed. Great selection of machines and free weights. And cardio equipment is plentiful. All u need in a gym.
Professional, & helpful staff. Really like the atmosphere.
This is my second time joining Max Fitness and i haven’t been disappointed yet. The staff makes you feel so welcomed. The group classes are fun and the instructors are helpful.
This place is a freaking joke. After texting me asking if I wanted to auto renew my membership and me responding no, they did it anyway. Getting corporate to answer the phone is impossible. How do you auto renewal a 2 year contract at the one year mark?? They sent me to collections or tried sending me to collections. I can’t wait to report to the BBB. Count your days Max.
Had some issues with payments once and took me forever to get it fixed and they still charged me for not paying on time when it was there system that was wrong. Also tried to cancel my membership because of relocation and the form does not work. Also think it is ridiculous that they are charging accounts during COVID-19 and are freezing all account so they cant cancel.
Great space, friendly, helpful and professional staff. Silver sneakers classes are excellent. Personal trainers are available for clients who request more help. I love going to this gym.
Very friendly people here at max fitness and feel welcome here every time I open the door
Great gym! It is always clean and there are plenty of weights, machines and classes to choose from!
Max Fitness is the best gym in Auburn by far. It is always clean and everything is very up todate. I have had a great experience there. The staff is really helpful and it seems like everyone has a great time there. I also see so many people actually reaching their goals. So often gyms just sign people up and let them go. Not there. They are very helpful in many ways! I love this place.
1 star is being generous. The gym itself is par for the course: Basic gym, decent equipment, and sufficient staff. No frills or exceptional qualities, but is satisfactory. The business model and management of the gym is terrible. The turnover was some of the worst I’ve seen anywhere in any business. 3-4 GMs and a complete turnover of staff every few months. The staff was always acceptable so no complaints there. My wife and moved away from Auburn, before moving we completed the online form for cancellation. Now a year later we noticed we are still being charged. I filled out a new cancellation request and called the Auburn location. A woman named Emily connected me with a Ms. Sawyer out of their corporate office in Columbus. I explained to her I completed the cancellation form over a year ago because we moved away and no longer have access to the gym. And for some reason I am still being billed for both memberships. She said there was no record of me filling out the cancellation request over a year ago. That if I could “PROVE IT” they would review it. Apparently there are several instance where things like this have happened if you read the reviews. Either there is an occasional problem with the website or with Ms. Sawyer. She was professional, but It is obvious after my conversation with her that the corporate office doesn’t care for their customers. No matter how long you have been with them. I should have caught the oversight sooner, however the outcome would have been the same. We paid for a membership we could not use, in a city we did not live, that has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Hopefully my most recent cancellation has been received and will soon be approved. #GoodRiddance
Awesome gym! Largest facility in the area with very reasonable rates. The staff is all very friendly and genuinely care about their members. The equipment is kept clean and up to date. The classes are great and so are the instructors!!
Max Fitness is the biggest scam on the planet! DO NOT under any circumstances sign a contract with them. You will never be able to get out of it. I was a proud member of Max Fitness while attending Auburn University, until graduation was around the corner and with moving back home, decided to cancel my membership. I was fully aware of the $50 cancellation fee and was fine to pay it. I was not aware that I had to give proof of reason for leaving. I was instructed that in order to cancel I needed to show proof of change of address. I went to the post office in Auburn, filled out the change of address form, mailed in the change of address form to the Max Fitness office in Columbus, GA (that had my new location on the form). When I received the confirmation of change of address to my new residence, I copied and mailed this form to them as well. It has now been almost 5 months since I tried to cancel my membership and I am still receiving bills, harassing phone calls, letters in the mail etc. As soon as I noticed I was still being billed for Max Fitness I cancelled my Visa. I have now discovered I owe Max Fitness a large sum of money and them claim that they have denied my request for change of address. How in the world does someone just deny that you live somewhere...? OF COURSE THEY DID... they want to continue to bill me for the end of ETERNITY. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. WORST MISTAKE EVER.
Pretty good gym equipment-wise. The problem is getting out of your contract. I am moving from Auburn so I had to cancel my membership and it got denied. Your best bet is to CANCEL YOUR DEBIT CARD so they can’t rob you of your money.
Whats funny, Im from a big city were gym memberships are a whole lot more money to join. Not only is this gym nice the staff is awesome. I have found the staff will go out of the way help you.The equipment is more than sufficient to meet anyones workout needs. It has everything for a man my size 65 who has been an athlete all of his life. Its never full of bodies so you can get on any equipment basically anytime. In addition it has plenty of cardio machines. So I have no clue why people complain when you have the best gym in Auburn to work out at.Scratch your butt and get glad. Be thankful for a gym like this is a small college town.Mahalo
Beware of this gym!! They are crooks!!! First the guy at the gym said sign here for a 1 year membership and when I look at my contract it says I am obligated to pay for 2 years!! Yes, I should have read in detail the contract, but when the guy is sitting right in front of you saying its 1 year, I guess I believed him. Secondly, the staff our the rudest people so I dont feel that they are providing a great workout environment - so they are not living up to their side of the contract!!! Thirdly, my wife has cancer and I am now her primary caregiver. I called them to say that I can no longer go to this gym because my wife is very sick and I just dont have the time, but they dont care. Been calling and calling the main office to get out of my contract, but these people have no compassion - they never answer their phone. Come on, its just a gym - Most gyms dont even have a contract these days - but they say that they will take me to collections if I dont pay. I have paid these people for one year already!!! You would think in a small town like Auburn, they would do everything to keep a good reputation especially in their customer service! They only care about money!! Worst gym I have ever been to and I will definitely be spreading the word to warn people about this gym! Please check out all the bad reviews about people not being able to get out of their contract, even when their contract is over!!
Max Fitness has been an absolute NIGHTMARE to deal with. My husband and I joined Max Fitness last fall and told them from the beginning that we would be moving from the area in 8 months. They confirmed with us that we could cancel our membership before the contract was up IF we could provide proof of move and it was a certain number of miles away from the gym. Sure, makes sense. We have been trying to cancel this membership since February and our card is still being charged each month even after providing proof of move for my husbands job TWICE. I recommend NOT signing up if you ever plan on moving from the area.
I really enjoy working out here. God knows I need to. The staff here are friendly and the equipment is usually in great shape.
You are their worthless, cash monkey. They make the cancellation process extremely difficult, you have to call the lawyer which always goes to voicemail and if she calls you back it can take up to 2 weeks and you will be charged regular fees until they finally process it. Given you have to pay $50 to process, you think it would be a faster process than 30 days, I can get a new passport in a faster time than that. They dont facilitate the process at all or notify you of upcoming payments, they are cruel about late fees. You can run a good business without treating people like worthless, cash monkeys. I am finally free. I am a foreign so credit scores dont affect me I just wanted to cancel the right way but it wasnt worth it at all. I should have just not paid and went home.
If youre looking for just your basic gym with some add ons Max is a great choice! Ive used this gym for a little over a year now and havent had too many complaints. The equipment is in good shape, and most of the time, unless you go at peak hours, you are able to use what you need to. Ive tried out some of the group fitness classes and really enjoyed some of them (especially, Body Pump) others I didnt care for. The instructors are all very kind and willing to help, as needed. As far as obtaining a membership or speaking to someone, I would highly recommend Jon or Virgo. Jon, is one of the GMs and is a great guy! When I first joined I told him to give it to me straight and he did. He was always willing to help me out if I needed it and was always very kind. Virgo, in management, is also great! She is friendly and easy to talk to.
Great gym and some awesome new equipment!! Most of the one and two star reviews are because Max automatically charged them some sort of fee or canceling the contract is a hassle. Word to the wise and also what me and my wife did. We paid up front for a 2 year contract and got a great deal as we are paying equivalent to $12.50/mo. We paid this with cash so they do not have our credit card information and cannot charge any fees. With this being done, my wife and I are having an absolutely amazing experience at this gym!! Staff is friendly and as I mentioned before, most of the equipment in the free weight section is brand new and all other equipment is in great shape and most importantly clean!
I have been a Max Fitness member since Feb. 2012. I regularly attend group fitness classes. Please take my review with a grain of salt if you plan to become a member without any interests in the group fitness classes. On every Monday and Wednesday I attend the body pump class; on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, I attend the RPM class. The coaches of these classes are very professional. For example, coach Brandy can remember the names of all students in her class. I highly recommend Max Fitness to you.
Jonathan is a great personal trainer!! The gyms is easy to go to and there are a lot of different classes and events to do!!
I’ve had a membership at several gyms but Max Fitness was my best choice. The equipment is Great and a AWESOME ATMOSPHERE!!!
Not a good place for anything short term (3-9 mo). Not so much a gym versus a business. Mainly interested in selling memberships and the training they do offer is sub par. Small print fees they don’t mention and canceling your membership is hell. Not very flexible either, even gave me issues and I’m military and had active duty paperwork. Decent facilities.
Appreciate the 24/7 hours, but are completely undependable when theyre supposed to open at 5 a.m. on Mondays. Have been in parking lot multiple Mondays at 5 a.m. and have had to leave since I only have a limited time before work. Also, elliptical machines upstairs never have working TVs and this was after I was told they would be fully functioning when I renewed my membership...more than a year ago.
Well, no wonder they give away free T-Shirts for a good Yelp and Google review. It took me moving away and trying to cancel. WThey wont take a DocuSign Contract as proof of moving with all parties names and signatures on it? Its an ongoing saga to date, but Ive left corporate a long voicemail describing my issues with Ms. Sawyer, Cancellation Manager. As a Contract Officer for a government agency, I think I know what constitutes a contract. Absolutely unbelievable. Now I know why Planet Fitness is making a killing, its because of gyms like Planet Fitness.
Ive tried many gyms in Auburn and love Max the most, hands down. Great atmosphere and I love my trainer, Jerrell! Their hours are convenient and they have so much equipment!
Max Fitness is the absolute worst gym I have ever been to and I have been to many. They basically scam you into taking your money. Once you are in the contract they tell you that it is simple to get out of it need be, that is not true. I have tried ever since I got the membership to cancel it. First I have a disability and tried to cancel my membership because of it but was not allowed because Ms. Sawyer, the cancellation manager said that my rehabilitation forms did not count. Even though I live with a disability, it wasnt a good enough reason to get out of it. I could no longer use the gym because it effected my body in a terrible manor. So I then moved from Auburn, there is no Max Fitness near where I live now. I sent my lease to get out of it, that worked but then I had to wait on an email saying that I needed to pay before a certain day to not get charged. Well there was nowhere stating in the email of where or whom to pay to get out of it. Only a way to prolong the $15.00 draft coming out of my account every two weeks. When they say you can cancel easily its not true, you go through one single person, Ms. Sawyer to cancel. Its a terrible way to run a business, it is ridiculous to have one person oversee all of the clubs cancellations because as I have noticed there are many. But by doing so they are keeping the flow of money coming in because it isnt a quick and simple cancelation. It is a prolonged process. I highly recommend not joining. (I only put one star because I had to to be able to post this)
The machines are always broken! Most of the benches padding is cracked. Staff is nice and so are most of the members.
Worst experience getting my membership canceled, which still hasn’t happened yet. Been trying to cancel for months because I have moved to a city where there is no max fitness. They conveniently lost my cancellation request and then stated if i sent in my cancellation fee before a certain date i would not be charged. Well I got charged anyway after I have done everything they’ve told me to do. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Nice gym but terrible business.
I was originally a member of a women only gym. They closed, and I was forced to be a member at Max. The gym wasnt too bad. Equipment was often broken, but it really wasnt terrible. However, I didnt want to be a member there. My contract was up at my other gym, and Im STILL having to go through a lot to not be a member here. I went in to try to cancel, they gave a phone number. I called twice, left messages, and my call was never returned. I called Max again, they explained (this time) I needed to fill out a form. I went in to get the form. After reading all of the reviews about it being difficult to cancel and how they charge extra fees, I wanted to make sure that wouldnt happen. The assistant manager was rude to me when I asked.I hope my cancellation process isnt as difficult as others have discussed. I dont understand how they havent gotten in trouble for this or how we were forced to move memberships to a gym we did not sign up for.Again, I wouldnt say the gym is bad, but this has been a bad experience.
If I could give them lower then a 1 I would. Great gym but horrible business model!!! DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY for tons of hidden fees and wont be able to get out of it unless you die or are disabled.
I joined because they had heavy bags upstairs years ago. They have removed them for the second time without warning. The upstairs area has had a bug problem for over a year now. They added back a heavy bag a while ago and I was happy. That bag is gone now and I don’t want to work out there anymore. I don’t recommend this gym. There are plenty of cheaper gyms in town that are better.
They close at 9:00 pm
Great workout environment conducive towards a focus-driven and physically interactive fitness style that’s suitable towards anyone coupled with a motivated down to earth staff.
Great Gym. I have been going here for almost 2 years. Has the biggest free weight area in town. Prices are great. The staff made getting signed up very easy. Clean Gym, has lots of sanitizing stations through out. They have a ton of cardio equipment. I would definitely recommend this gym.
I checked out the gym and the manager came in to show me around (She was really just a salesperson). From the start, she began pressuring me to get a membership immediately and lied out of her ass (Sign NOW for a discount). She glossed over a ton of hidden fees associated with a membership (Startup fee, yearly fee, cancellation fee, etc). I left as fast as I could.I decided to check out Tiger Iron which is just down the street. No pressure sales, no commitment necessary, and no hidden fees. Do yourself a favor and dont get a membership at the soul sucking leeches at Max Fitness.Edit: This place is still just as bad, maybe even worse than I had originally written. I had a few friends who got a membership here (Against my advice) and they almost immediately regretted it. They got hit with tons of hidden fees, pressure to get personal training, and couldnt back out of the contract they signed. They are corrupt as hell. Youve been warned.
Absolutely HORRIBLE! The equipment is fine, and the hours are convenient but they are straight CROOKS! They have tons of hidden fees and just about refuse to let you out of a contract. My husband and I pay over $50 a month and have had our contract almost 2 years. I was told that if I want to cancel I have to go inside of the gym, fill out the paperwork, send it certified mail (along with a $50 check or money order), and then it takes 30-60 days (youre telling me it takes TWO freaking months?!) to process, meanwhile, were being charged the $50 up until it completely cancels out. So basically, though I havent been to the gym in months, I have to pay $150 to get out of my contract. Straight bull. I will let EVERYONE I know NOT to sign a contract with Max and to go to Planet Fitness or ANYWHERE instead. As if that isnt bad enough, the girl that answered the phone had a HORRIBLE attitude and acted as though I was bothering her because I asked the process of cancellation. NEVER AGAIN will I sign up with another Max Fitness.
Good gym other than the fact they turn off the tv and lights 30 minutes before they close and don’t open till 10 am on Sunday. And the gym is also a bit crowded with equipment. Equipment stays broke for a long time.
Good luck getting out of a contract. I havent been in 6 months because my one year contract ran out. They failed to tell me they would charge you each month even after your contract runs out and charge you the $50 cancellation fee, along with some cleaning charge.
They said that my membership last until February 2020 and I cant cancel it this is the worst gym around here and how can a rec center have a higher rating than you dont go their.
Max fitness is a great gym I been apart of it for 2 and half years and lost over 80 pounds comeJoin good trainers nice hospitality 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Impossible to cancel a membership. I’ve been trying since late February to cancel my membership due to relocation. I was given a number for corporate, but no one will answer because they continue to say they are currently closed. This process has cost $100’s of dollars and no one will take credit for what the issue is.
I guess we should have known, Golds Gym/Max Fitness has never had a good reputation, but under the Max Fitness name i was fooled. My wife and i joined Max in Auburn over 2 years ago, luckily i was fortunate enough to pay for 2 years up front, but my wife on the other hand decided to pay monthly committing to a 2 year contract. Cancelling that contract has been the biggest pain in the butt ive ever been through, even though her 2 years was up. first, she approached the staff at the gym and they told her she would be able to cancel in September. So, she went back in September to cancel... She was then told she couldnt cancel until November. At which time she returned again to cancel and they then told her she had to submit her cancellation in writing and send to main office. which of course she did on November 7. Now over 2 weeks after cancelling they are trying to slap her with a $40 yearly update fee. they refuse to refund that money because they say she is obligated to pay any fees within her final month of membership. So what is happening is she is paying the update fee for the next year although she has already fulfilled her contract and cancelled. The other thing is that she has already paid 2 years worth of upgrade fees November 2012 and November 2013. My advice to anyone who wants a gym membership, stay away from Max Fitness. Find somewhere else. I have read and heard numerous complaints about this business including my own. They have my vote for WORST COMPANY IN AUBURN AREA!!
I went to the managers office to discuss an issue about the dress code. The manager I spoke to (Eric) was very rude and did not make eye contact with me, like I wasnt even there. He was very unprofessional and unpleasant. He spoked to me with an attitude and told me this is not Planet Fitness. Erick needs to learn how to speak to people, and definitely needs to work on his customer service skills.
Great place to work out. Friendly staff. Great classes for a very decent price. Would not work out any other place.
Great classes and staff! Love working out here!
Great location clean positive atmosphere knowledgeable trainers wide range of equipment and lots of classes, silver sneakers well-maintained bathrooms and showers
I have been going to this gym for roughly 4 years and I have not had any issues with them. The equipment is in good shape and the staff provide a positive environment.
Horrible. These people will take your money and refuse to let you cancel. Do not be a victim of theirs, it has happened to too many people who joined this gym. Read their reviews and do your research, I promise you are better off going anywhere else.
Great Gym! Low membership fee. Great atmosphere. Good equipment selection and condition.Awesome people.
