Booked a reservation weeks ago land in Asheville and they have no cars…. I thought that was the purpose of a reservation to RESERVE a car…. We went shopping got something to eat 4 hours later…. Still no cars… Horrible experience

What a nightmare. I made a reservation, showed up at my reserved time, and lo and behold, no cars available. I had to get my friend to Raleigh for a flight, and the amazingly rude associate refused to give me even a ballpark range for when a car might be ready. Whats the point of having a reservation, you might ask? When I asked this question, the agent just yelled at me: Take it up with the reservation line. I cancelled the reservation (which of course couldnt be done on-site and required a long phone call) and took my business elsewhere. Miraculously, my friend made her flight--no thanks to Budget.

Our first car smelled like urine so we returned it and got a new one. We were Ok with this even though it caused us to have to waste hours of our vacation. The real issue is the customer service agent at the desk in Asheville at the Asheville mall. She was incredibly rude. It is SUCH a bummer to have every single experience on your vacation be awesome and then have someone at the start and end of your trip ruin it. After looking at the other reviews left, we should have never rented a car from this place.

The car was not the cleanest Ive ever rented. I would have given 4 stars based on that but the associates were wonderful. Everything was incredibly quick and easy from an online prepaid rental, to extending the rental online, and including an incredible upgrade due to cars being unavailable.

1 star is too generous.Not sure why they allow you to make reservations online when they don’t honor them. We called this location to confirm our pickup time the day of our reservation. Staff notified us that they didn’t have any cars available for this date, and also weren’t sure when they would.They proceeded to tell us to continue calling back throughout the day to see if a car would become available. No waitlist or anything of the sort, just call in and see if you get lucky. Again, this was the day of our reservation.After numerous attempts, we decided to go with Uhaul, and without them, we would have been stranded in our hotel or relying on incredibly inconsistent ubers and lyfts. You need a car to get around Asheville properly, especially if you want to be able to hike in the surrounding area. Stay away, do not use this service by any means.

Save yourself the hassle and rudeness of this business. Mystery charges abound and they ridicule you for not reading all of the fine print. Worst customer service. Rude and very disrespectful. If zero stars were a choice, that’s what I’d give them. When a hold of $250 is placed on someone’s card, the customer should be told this verbally, you shouldn’t need a magnifying glass to read the fine print. I don’t have a problem with the hold on my card. My problem is that I wasn’t told this was happening. Regardless of that, the disrespect from the person at the counter was horrible. Never again.

Avoid this place at all cost. The car had scratches and dings all over the outside, smelled horrible inside. Check engine light was on for maintenance needed, tire pressure was low. The windshield was so dirty that I could barely see out of it when the sun hit it. Angela is extremely unkind, unprofessional, and rude.

They did not have the vehicle for me when I arrived for pickup, even though I confirmed days previous online.Then they may try to bill you for the vehicle anyway. If you are in this situation, make sure you cancel your reservation before being charged for the vehicle they dont have, otherwise you will be without both wheels and money.

Understaffed, service takes way too long. Staff are nice though. Edit: still understaffed. They charge a gas fee of ***$9/gallon*** if you dont fill up your tank before returning!!!!

I had a very poor experience at this location. I had reserved (and paid for) a car. When I went to pick it up, I provided my paperwork and ID and the woman at the counter curtly responded we dont have a car available. When I said but I reserved a car, she responded that I could maybe get one at the airport, but it would cost more. It became obvious that this woman did not care at all and was not going to help me in any way. When my boyfriend tried to show her that the website was showing there were cars available, she appeared to become angry and displayed agitated behavior. She flailed her arms, slapped down her business card, raised her voice, and shouted something about how she wasnt going to do anything to help and your wife cursed at me...! It was quite a spectacle. I ended up running over to Enterprise and was able to get a car from them. I then had to call my credit card company to have the charges for the Budget car reimbursed (the payment had already gone through). I considered that maybe this individual was having an extremely bad day, but based on the numerous poor reviews listed here describing this same woman, it sounds like this is her typical behavior.

Terrible service. From what I’ve read in other reviews, I think we’re all referencing the same sad, pathetic, ill-tempered lady at the front desk. (In all honesty, I feel bad for her).In my experience- I was told to arrive at 1pm to pick up my rental, upon arriving at 1pm I was refused service as the location was closed. Despite the fact I was now stranded in Asheville, the extremely impolite “manager” made sure to inform me that “her time is more important than mine.” (A debatable claim, but I can take it.) I was then instructed to find a way to the airport location (30 minutes away) or call Budget customer service to figure something out. After a lengthy phone call with customer service, I did receive a full refund, took an Uber to a different rental service, and figured things out. This took me several hours, but I guess it’s okay, because this manager got her 15 extra minutes, and her time is more important. Overall, terrible, terrible experience, 10/10 would NOT recommend.

We drove in from Kansas City with a friend that rode with us and she had reserved a car rental in Asheville at Budget Car she had already paid for and received a confirmation number for days before. When we arrived on time to pick up her rental, they explained they don’t have a vehicle for her and when she asked why, and that she had already paid for the service, the lady said “I don’t know, if you find out could you let me know?” As a person who has worked in customer service for my entire working life, this is unacceptable. It goes without saying that the woman that answers phones for this company was incredibly unpleasant and most certainly unhelpful. This company will not only screw you, they will treat you poorly while doing so. I suggest not depending on this company and avoiding putting yourself through communicating with their employees.

This business is a franchise. My rental wasn’t even at the location and the lady at the desk was extremely rude. Horrible service. I don’t know how this place stays in business. The rude foreign lady at the desk who is the manager is married to the American owner. She laughed and had many remarks when I asked for her bosses name and number. I have never been treated the way she treated us. Never again will I rent from Budget. Waiting on your vehicle for hours and then being over charged is not work the discount the website offers. BEWARE!! Stay away from this place!!

Long wait. Rude agents. Unhelpful in finding the location to the point of hanging up when I asked Sheila to repeat directions. Owner with the extremely heavy accent that spoke with my sister talked so fast/incoherently that it was painful to listen to the other side of the conversation where my sister kept saying things like, I didnt catch any of that. And. Can you speak more slowly please? (Over and over - take some esl classes if youre going to run a business. In this country youre not doing us a favor offering a service - we (were) doing you a favor patronizing your business)Go anywhere else people. Anywhere else.

So I haven’t actually picked up my Rental yet. I’m basing this review off my reserving experience. I made a reservation for the first week of August. I chose Budget because they were so much more affordable than Enterprise. I didn’t read the reviews until AFTER I pre-paid. Upon reading them I became nervous and anxious about the reservation.. I’ve been looking forward to this trip for over a year so I want everything to go smoothly! Anyway- I called the Asheville neighborhood location and Angela answered. She was perfectly accommodating and helpful. She did not rush me off the phone- in fact she went out of her way to give more information than I asked for which I SO appreciate. Fingers crossed that picking up the vehicle goes as smooth as our conversation! I’ll plan to edit this review based on my in person experience- I just noticed their are a lot of negative reviews so I wanted to highlight my personal positive experience!

Awful. I made a reservation two days before pick up to pick up the car at 9 am. For starters, couldn’t find the place at the mall and had to call. Since I couldn’t find it, I was 20 minutes late and they didn’t have the car ready until 10. I had a plane to catch so I was pretty peeved. They also NEVER mentioned the $100 security deposit but thankfully I knew about it because I googled it. Never renting from them again.

Rented a truck over the phone with Budget to move a friend and when we got there they said they dont have any trucks. To top it all off, they still charged our credit card! Luckily, U-Haul down the road had plenty of trucks.

Arrived and was told they had no vehicles available except a van that had not been cleaned yet. Was told they would have vehicles in 45 mins to 1 hr being delivered from the airport. Lady tried to blame it on budgets website thinking they have vehicles when they don’t. Lady said I could cancel my reservation, but there would be a charge. Also the rate would be different if I went to airport myself. Which would only take 15-20 mins. Called my fiancé. While on the phone... amazing she had a vehicle for me!! Nothing had changed... no one arrived with keys... what changed!!! Seems like a scam. Took the car that she had... even though I was booked for an SUV. Car had front end damage that had not been noted on report. Made her come out and check. Also car was not cleaned very well at all. Looked like a quick floor vacuum and go. By far the worst experience I have had booking a rental car. After checking google reviews doesn’t seem like this is a new occurrence at this location.

Angela did wonderful! We will be using budget from now on. We had a reservation with Enterprise and due to their loop holes and hidden fees we werent able to rent a car, but thanks to Angela we were able to get a car. Budget for life!

I was able to make a reservation in less than 2 minutes and was in a nice clean vehicle in less than 15 minutes from the time of picking up my phone to make the online reservation. There was no hassle, no nonsense, the price was better than enterprise, and Angela is literally THE best person that I have ever dealt with regarding a car rental. Disregard any old negative reviews and give them a try. As I was getting my rental I saw their interaction with other customers and they have strong customer loyalty.. people who rent cars regularly know to come here.

HORRIBLE! This is not a business to deal with. Angela is rude. When I started to get frustrated, she put me on hold (10 plus minutes now)!! Now they will not even answer the phone?!Rented a car towards the end of July for a few days, returned the car on August 1st...and still have not received the deposit back. Have been getting the run around from customer service, so I thought I would try the office from where I picked up the rental. That was a dead end. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!

The gross incompetence of this company is astounding. When you make a rental car reservation at the location closest to your house you expect them to have a car ready for you. Instead we were sent an hour out of our way to go get our rental car from the airport since no one had bothered to bring any cars to this location. And we weren’t the only ones picking up rental cars that were sent to the airport. Don’t waste your time and money. I will never be renting from Budget ever again.

WARNING: YOUR RESERVATION MEANS NOTHING!!! We reserved a few days ahead of time and they did not have a single car for us upon arrival, or anything for the guys waiting behind us either. They said they would call me when a car was ready... Its been a few days now and no calls lol.Luckily we went straight to the Airport budget and got a car. The airport location says this mall franchise sends them 5 or 6 people EVERY DAY (that has to be the majority of their bookings) because they dont have cars. So good luck to you and the 25% chance they have your car. Customer service is terrible. Maybe one day Ill get that call. Drive the extra distance and book a car at the airport

Horrible, horrible, horrible experience.First, we called to ask for the location because we didn’t know it was inside the mall and were instantly put on hold. A police officer directed us before the call was picked back up.No cars available anywhere close to what we booked. Only three cars available total including ones being held for pick/ups later in the day.We were told we were an “add-on” because we were a last minute booking. Customers always love to be called “add-ones,”. Make us feel valued;) As other reviews mentioned Budget at large was blamed for bit have a car. They accepted the booking but can’t deliver a car...Anyway, we agreed to take the Dodge mini-van even though we feel they are death traps and avoid them like the plague.But then, we asked to add a second driver, a free benefit with our Costco membership/booking but that was a problem. She kept saying she couldn’t make a Costco booking and we needed a code from Costco. Typically a manager just removes the charge if they system doesn’t recognize the Costco booking (we rent about 40-50 cars a year.) This wasn’t possible, only the owner could do that if she were there, but she wasn’t. So we called Costco as advised and the code we were given over the phone was the same code on the system already so didn’t solve the problem, BUT, this really set the Budget/Avis lady off....We told her we didn’t care about a $13 charge for an extra driver an we needed to hit the road to make out CLT flight. But she just wanted to argue.She does not like to be wrong and wanted to fight to that tooth to defend her stance. She kept showing us her screen and using internet Budget technical language which means nothing to the customer. She started to complain that we were talking to her rudely and she wasn’t going to stand for that when she was right. Everything was a excuse and out of her hands. She even tried to pull in an employee from the airport locals who was sitting on the waiting room chairs to tell us she was right.We reminder her that we were happy to pay the $13 and didn’t want to argue. We asked her to please move on but she couldn’t. We ran us up and down her litany of how we were rude and accused her of things (?) and how she’s been at Budget for 13 years and knows she right and wants us to know she’s right. We don’t know what she was so right about but we do know she wanted to argue.Massive attitude, horrible communication and very very poor customer service. In the end she denied us the death trap and refused to rent to us. She was even going on and on to other customers about how rude we were as we were leaving.I’d be happy to discuss this with the owner if she’d like.

I had to extend the date on my rental car which would have cost me huge amounts of money. Angela did everything to save me as much as possible and she DID!There are not many places that give such caring and professional customer service. She was very personable and knowledgeable and offered me the best deal possible. When I need a rental car again, that is the only place I will go. Thank you again, Angela!

If I could give Budget 0 stars I would. This is not the only neighborhood location that never has any cars, people are very rude & dont care. In Fayetteville I went to pick up a car and the 2 little girls working there did not even acknowledge I was there for over 10 minutes . No car. Dont waste your money on neighborhood locations.

OMG! I have never been spoken to more harshly than by the manager at the Tunnel Road Asheville location just now over the phone. I am literally nervous about going to pick up my car that I have paid for already. Wow, how can people such as this stay in business where repeat business is expected. I see that the reviews online reflect the staff at the front desk over and over. The manager, Angela hung up on me when I ask her not to interrupt me. When I called her back for the corporate number,she gave it to me and hung up again without so much as an I am sorry This behavior is well documented by reviews posted about this location.

Reliable and fast service, nice car -> happy costumer!Reserved a car online to pick it up at noon, called before to announce I would be late. Which was OK, I was told, as long as I would be there before 1 pm, as the shop would close then. I arrived on time, employee was very friendly, the car I had reserved was available (great car: clean and quite new), paperwork did not take a lot of time. After returning the car, no further charges than those in the online rental reservation agreement were applied to my creditcard.

This company as a whole is a complete rip off. I rented a Kia Soul on 6/1/19 one way from this location to CLT airport. I was told when I picked up the car that there is damage in the door but not to worry it has already been noted on the contract. I dropped the car off the same day in CLT, there was no mention of the damage and I was given a receipt for the rental with an all clear. Now two months later I’m told that the budget on S Tunnel Rd denied any knowledge of the damage. I DID NOT damage that car and will not pay the $1300 they are requesting. I will never do business with these maggots again!!

Got a receipt that said $60.68. Charged my card, a$200 hold. Waited for them to take it off. Then charged my card $101.75. Had the car for less than 24 hrs. Was only in it for 6 or 7. Trash place, trash service. Huge scam.

My single parent sister and neices were trying to come visit me at the new base Im stationed at in the military. She was told she could use a debit card to rent a vehicle, but when she got there they told her they couldnt use it. My wife even tried paying over the phone and they wouldnt let her. Online it even says you can pay with debit at this location. I tried calling and the manager, Alisha, just hung up on me after saying it was our fault. The two girls and the manager were extremely, over the top rude. I really dont think Ive ever had such bad customer service that, they just hang up on you. When I called back, they didnt pick up the phone. I know why they have horrid reviews now. Lesson learned. My only thought now is who would have been crazy enough to hire people like this?! They are either desperate or terrible at training their employees. Either way ENTERPRISE let her use her card and everything worked out. No hassle, polite, dont go somewhere where they have a small BUDGET for trashy employees.

Dont waste your time here. They may be a little cheaper than enterprise or uhaul but not worth the hassle. Especially when they never actually have cars to rent. If you make a reservation that doesnt guarantee youll get a car. Customer service was not very good either. They dont really seem to care about the customers at all and it shows. Save yourself the time and hassle and just go somewhere else.

Awful experience, rude clerk. Budget had no cars despite my reservation andconfirmation. They had a car in the class I reserved, but were saving it for the next customer. I ended up paying $100 more than my reservation amount. Granted, the clerk was experiencing a bad week because of the shortage, but as a business owner, I would have fired her on the spot for responding to a customer the way she did. Infuriating.

Rude and apatheticShowed up at 9 am for a truck we reserved the day before through the website.Was told they didnt have my truck. I could call customer service and they could help me find a truck. She said this happens all the time and I shouldnt be upset. As proof she showed me a list of other a before me that also werent going to get their truck today. It didnt seem to occur to her to call these people and tell them so they at least got a heads up that their moving plans where ruined before driving here.Ill never rent a car or truck from any budget ever.

Worse customer service Ive ever had. Made us wait in line for over 2 hours at 2:30am just to get to the counter. Then over charged us $170 dollars. The guy at the counter said our bill would reflect the difference in price. Then when it didnt, we emailed them our complaint and they said we agreed to it. Then refuse to show us the complete billing breakdown. Not only that but our car wasnt even nice - it was all beat up, the check engine and the airbag lights were on, and the radio didnt even work. Ill never rent from them again.

Some of the worst customer service Ive ever seen. I had a 6:00pm rental and showed up at 6:00 and thirty seconds. The clerk had locked the door right at six and wouldnt acknowledge that I was even there. Eventually a customer had to come to the door to explain that she closed right at six and wouldnt budge. It turns out the car that I had rented WASNT EVEN THERE. I called customer service and was charged $25 to move my rental to the airport. After driving to the airport, the car I had rented was in their lot and had never even moved to this mall location. The clerk could have at least saved me 25 minutes on the phone and been up-front about the situation.

Vile, horrible place with vicious people behind the counter and NO cars - even after you have reserved one days before. I called prior to picking up the car to RE-confirm my reservation and was told everything was set. When I went in to get it - they told me they had no cars and couldnt do anything about it. They blamed the Asheville Budget for not sending any cars to their location. Finally, after arguing for a while - the woman hands me a card with a GMs number on it and sends me 30 minutes away to the airport to pick one up from the other Budget. Come to find out...the Asheville Mall location is a private family-owned franchise who does this all the time...and the GMs number was to someone that fields all the complaints that they get. Bottom line...please save yourself the time and a heinous experience. Dont even try this place.

The worst of the worst.We reserved a truck weeks before, show up at reservation time and guess what! No truck. Lady has a major stick up her but and after making herself busy with papers and doing absolutely everything except help us tells us to go 35 mins away to get our truck. When we complain she then refuses to call back and reserve the truck at other location and starts yelling at us. We leave to call customer service which is the biggest joke. Absolute idiots who literally could not care less. So much for our moving plans. Uhaul anyone? Jesus Christ. Save yourself the huge goddamn hassle and go ANYWHERE else.

They have the most awful customer service I have ever experienced! I was not informed about thier daily charge for tolls. I recieved a charge on my credit card regarding toll charges and when i called to ask about it the employee continued to yell over me that she goes over the policy with everyone and if i had a problem call corporate. Then she proceeded to hang up on me. I called her back to get corporates number and she gives me a fake number and a fake name. Please heed my warning DO NOT bring you business here they will treat you like dirt !

NEVER EVER PREPAY FOR A RESERVATION...if there is a problem or an early drop off, you will NOT receive a refund or credit. Lesson learned, and I will NEVER rent from Budget again. Enterprise is far more professional and accommodating.I reserved and prepaid for a rental to be picked up Sunday,July 22, 2018 at 03:00 PM at the Asheville Mall, Sears Merchandise Pick Up Area,1 South Tunnel Rd (at Hwy 70). I show up and all I see are Budget moving trucks and I cant find the office as Sears had closed. I had to call the toll free number to find out where the office was located. After some time on the phone, the operator told me the office was inside the mall. I went inside and there was an unmarked business with folding tables and computers, a moving dolly, and some pads. I went in and asked if this was Budget. I was greeted by a lady wearing a tank top with spaghetti straps and tattoos all over. She told me she could look up my reservation but could not print out anything so after a long wait, she hand wrote a slip for me to take. My wait was due to confusion about what vehicles they had - and one had just been stolen from their parking area.She handed me fob (keyless entry device) saying the car had not been cleaned and they could not clean it. She said she would give me a credit for it being dirty (NEVER HAPPENED). I needed the car, so I took it unclean. She said that it was straight out down the row and told me to press the fob to find the car, goodbye. I had never driven a car where you push the button to start it, and I received NO instruction whatsoever on any part of the operation. I didnt get a walk around to verify previous damages either. She wrote on the slip there were dents and scratches though.Talk about a dirty car!?! There was a sticky/oily substance all over the seats, my passenger didnt see it and sat in it and stained her pants. When I drove into the sun, the windshield was so dirty and streaked, I had to clean the inside of the windshield myself. I didnt mind the dirty floorboards - but the other 2 issues were unacceptable.I returned the car to Raleigh a day early, Saturday, July 28 and explained about the dirty car and asked if the Budget associate in Asheville had posted some kind of a credit and she told me no, that this was a prepaid reservation and they could not issue any credits - not even for returning a car early.I CALL THAT BAD BUSINESS, and here is the reply I got...Unfortunately, we cant promise that your prepaid daily car rate willapply if you change car types, lengthen or shorten your rental period orchange your pick up or return location.If you return the vehicle before the original return date (earlyreturn), you will not be refunded any portion of the payment.We do find your Budget rental billing to be correct and no adjustmentswarranted for services received and billed by Budget.Well now, Budget - I do find your customer service to be unacceptable, lesson learned, I will use Enterprise in the future. I was not asking for anything unreasonable - a credit for 1 day - or at least a small credit for the dirty car (cleaning for the stained pants) as promised by the Asheville employee.

Without doubt, one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. The problems began from the start - when we attempted to drop off our Charlottesville-Asheville rental we found the location had moved. It took two phone calls to learn that the office had moved to a different part of the Asheville Mall. No signage, nothing. But it only got worse. After dropping off the car (which took a painful half-hour because Budgets office printer would not print out receipts) we were assured that our forthcoming Asheville-Washington DC rental would be ready in time, especially as we had prepaid for the full reservation. Still, two days later I called the Asheville office to confirm that the car would in fact be ready for pickup at 11am the following day. I was then told we have no cars and cant guarantee anything. Its protocol. The advisers attitude was patronising and arrogant in the extreme - you know you are on a bad track when a customer service agent rails on about protocol. She could not wait to get me off the phone, and told me to call back again at 5.30pm to see what would be available the following day. On doing so, I was told a Nissan Versa and a Dodge Compass would be on offer. So the following day my wife and I hauled our luggage down to the Asheville Mall location, ready for the 11am pickup. Ta-da! Oh, we have no cars - they all went out this morning on new reservations. This was despite being told just 16 hours earlier that they had a car ready for us.To pay $335 for a one-way rental nine weeks in advance and then be told no car is available at the time of pickup is more than a little irritating. We were told that a Fusion would hopefully be returned in an hour. At that point, I gave up and called Budget Customer Service and cancelled the entire reservation - hopefully I will be refunded in full. We eventually caught a bus to Enterprise at 26 Tunnel Road and booked a one-way reservation with them - they had us on the road five minutes after stepping into their office.Avoid Budget Asheville Mall at all costs if you want your reservation to be honoured. They only seem able to offer execrable service and a condescending couldnt care less attitude.

I rented a compact car for a day trip. I had never rented from Budget Rent A Car Before. Usually when I rent from Enterprise or Hertz I get a shiny new car. I showed up and I did rent a compact car. They gave me a Nissan Versa. I had nothing against it being a Nissan or a Versa. The problem was the car. It had duck tape marks on the doors of the car. It had dents all over the car. The windows both inside and outside were filthy. There was some sort of writing on the windows. The car looked so bad that the person who dropped me off commented, What a piece of junk. When I went to Tennessee, my friend commented, Your car....wow! The car did run all right. I just was shocked that they would give me a car that looked so bad and I wondered if it had been in some sort of accident since there was ducktape on the doors like they had to ducktape the doors together at some point. Angela at the service desk was very helpful and nice. No complaints about the service, just the vehicle itself.

0 STARS. This has got to be one of the worst customer service experiences EVER. My car was 3 hours late after the reservation, the OWNER of all people had an attidude and tried to blame all of her problems on corporate. Like the reviews say, NEVER PREPAY, THEY ARE LITERALLY UNABLE TO ISSUE A REFUND. Go to... anywhere else to get a car

Theyll let you make an online reservation AND pay for it, however this location doesnt rent cars anymore. Caused serious problems with getting a car I thought was reserved and paid for that day, then find out my card was still charged and went thru hell to get refunded..thank you Budget

Location moved, no directions to new location that is now in the mall with no signage. Only one person in office, no opportunity to walk around vehicle to check for damage, full gas tank, etc.Very disappointed.
