We adopted a stray on Saturday. She is a sweet girl and warming up to our little family nicely. The staff did a great job of introducing our dog to her, who can be very selective with other dogs and people. So thankful for the love and care she got while staying at the shelter. It prepared her to be here with us in her forever home.
We had a few melt downs with a special needs kiddo. We know the free weekend was a rush, but we were disappointed with some of the staff behaviors. Two ladies, a shorter 2 toned blonde hair girl and one with purple or so hair. I stood there and watched you erase my name on the list two times, I watched you see other guest before you helped us again. You also found things to piddle with before you helped me again even though I knew which one I wanted after our original pick was adopted.WE ARE SO PLEASE THAT WE THEN WENT TO GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC and found our new love!Thank you though to AHS adoption coordinator who did help us.
These are some of the nicest people, they keep the animals clean, and fed, they treat everyone of these animals like Their own. I love this Shelter for taking care of my dog Bella when someone stole her from me. She was gone 2 weeks. I went to this Shelter to ask, just by chance and they got ahold of me they had Bella 5 days out of the 2 weeks she was gone. Somebody had hit her in the head!😭 The girls at this Shelter took great care. Thank you so much.
Very positive! I picked up 3 foster kittens, and all supplies and food were ready to go. All medical contacts were provided, and a bio of each kitten was included. My only suggestion is to offer a tips sheet on how to prepare rooms for animals to explore to prevent them from getting stuck somewhere, chewing on cords, stepping on them (they can be fast) or having things fall on them. I have a safe room when I leave them. When Im home I watch them have some serious fun!
Great place for animals. Definitely recommend! Very well cared for and they all smelled so good and were very friendly!
I was unhappy with how the man made me feel judged and every dog I picked he had a reason to not let me adopt. I am disabled and just wanted a friend but they are making it very difficult I can offer a great home. I even had a taxi lined up to take the dog home. They still refused but I filled out a matching form but Im not holding my breath for a call....
This is an amazing establishment. They do the very best with the resources they have and make a difference in so many lives. They deserve so much more funding and praise. Because they are a no kill shelter, their space is always running low.I am taking care of a few foster kittens for them right now and they are always there for anything we need. I encourage more people to foster as its a rewarding and incredibly helpful experience.
I went to look for a dog that I meet before in my place of work, but was given in adoption already, people who work there is simply nice and wonderful
Everyone was so friendly and helpful. So many dogs! So sad. But they are well taken care of at this place!
Very nice; especially clean place. Friendly staff. Clean animals also.
We adopted this sweet girl almost 7 years ago. We changed her name to Scarlett. She is the sweetest cat ever. She is so great with other animals and great with kids. She was so easy to house train, she loves to cuddle and will lick you like a dog does lol I have never seen a cat do this. But she will lick us . I love her so much. She has been a blessing to our family. Thank you Asheville humane society
They do such a good job for all the animals 🙂.
I love going to the Humane Society. Really good people there. And the foster program is really great program to help animals and the people that run the program are so sweet and caring for the animals. They try their best to help in any way possible with the fosters.
In 2017 I adopted two cats from Asheville Humane Society. The cats are really sweet and I’m glad I adopted them. The only bad part about AHS was that they said my girl cat was a boy when I adopted her. We later came back after she became in heat and asked them to double check that. This time they told us that she was a girl haha. The other problem that we had was with our “9” year old cat. They said he was 9. I highly doubt that but also they were giving him “special” food that he was allergic to and it gave him rashes all over his body. He was there for 6 months probably because of that. I’m glad I got him but I hope no other animals are like that there.
Asheville Humane Society has very caring Staff and Volunteers.. if you are looking to add a furry friend to your Family.. I highly recommend AHS😊
I love Asheville Humane Society! The staff is always friendly and helpful and the animals are well taken care of while waiting for their furever homes. So far, we have adopted three of our (many) fur babies from them in the last four years. Our dog Ruth was one of the first in their Canine Good Citizen program when it began. We adopted her four years ago. She had been returned to the shelter twice before we adopted her due to housing situations (they werent allowed to have dogs or certain sizes or breeds but adopted her anyway, then had to return her). But then we saw her on the AHS website and went and adopted her right away. Shes now living a wonderful, happy life with our family. She has found her furever home with us with no worries of ever being given up again! We also just adopted two sweet kitties from AHS on Thursday (7/15/21). They are settling in nicely and are both so sweet and silly. One of the things I love about Asheville Humane Society is that they often have adoption specials where they either waive adoption fees or have reduced adoption fees. And they are also very thorough with their adoption process to make sure the animals are going to good homes. If you want a new companion from a place that cares about animals, their well-being, and their placement, then Asheville Humane Society is the place to go to find your new furbaby! 🥰💙
I love the Asheville Humane Society not just because I volunteer there but because they run the Buncombe County shelter and are a no-kill. Awesome folks to work with and have The Animals best interest in mind.
Absolute favorite animal shelter... they are hard working people and truly love the pets.. each and every one is looked after and taken care of. They do anything to help you if you are in need of help with your pet. Veterinary Care, spay& neuter, food just about anything. Please adopt and dont shop if you can help it.
What is there to say that hasnt already been said!?! Everyone is always helpful, kind, and works as hard as they can to match a pet with an owner. My mom has been a multi-time foster mom and foster failure! Currently she fostering a sweet baby pitty that I and my daughters have already fallen head over heels for. Dont shop, ADOPT!!!!!
Wonderful staff. The facility is very clean .
They were very friendly and kind. I sure hope they can re-home my dog. He was such a gentle giant as they call his breed! We miss him so much!
Friend looking to adopt, the facility is clean and calm, staff is very friendly those critters are very fortunate to be there until they find their forever homes.......G
Got my kitten there Friday just before closing and noticed he was sneezing. Asked them to check it out and I feel they rushed it because of the time because they said there was no problem. Well now just spent 4 hours and $200 at the emergency vet that is the only one open on the weekend because the kitten has a full blown upper respiratory infection.I have 2 other cats and I feel not only did they cost me a lot in vet bills for an emergency vet visit but they put my other cats in danger by saying he was fine after a 5 minute check.Love my kitten and he’s worth it but REALLY Not happy at allAlso** Important ** If you go there for a kitten and choose one from the large kitten room be sure they get thoroughly checked out. My kitten came from that room and respiratory infections in cats are highly contagious!
This group is the most caring bunch. They love the animals and go above and beyond.
Amanda, Carissa, and Beth were awesome! They took the time to get to know her. They were loving and compassionate toward my little girl and I. Faith is skiddish and takes a moment to trust others, but she soon felt safe with these ladies. She was fitted with a harness just right for my babys frame. They gave liberally including food, a collar a harness, and a comfortable bed to keep her warm throughout winter!!I will absolutely be recommending Asheville Humane Society.Thanks-again 💕🦴👣🦮🐾💕
We’ve gotten our 3 cats there, it’s obvious that those people working there legitimately care about the animals and the connection people make with an animal who at that time is scared and unsure about what’s going on around them.
Always find great things here and 100% of proceeds go to AHV. My kind of business!
I absolutely love this place and the wonderful people who work there! They do their best to make sure the animals in their care are getting their needs met and that they are receiving all the love that sweet animal friends deserve. I adopted two adorable tuxedo kittens from the same litter almost a year ago when they were only 6 weeks old and 2lbs each! I can tell they’ve always been treated well by people because they immediately bonded to my boyfriend and me and they end up cuddling with anyone and everyone they meet. They mean everything to me. I truly don’t know how I would have gotten through this crazy and quite awful (personally) year without them. Thank you again Asheville Humane Society!!
Awesome staff and very clean.
The staff is very nice and extremely helpful and they really care about the animals there. Would highly recommend.
Today we didnt even know about the $10 Valentines day adoption special, but felt like dropping in. Courtney assisted us in getting to know a sweet 3 legged cat. She took the time to find out everything she could about her for us and gave us plenty of privacy and time to decide if we were going to take her home. It was a wonderful experience. Ashley helped give us every bit of paperwork, tags, x-rays, food to take home so she can adjust, and got us so excited. Honestly, it was a magical Valentines day and shes already adjusting well in her new home. Thank you Asheville Humane Society, its never a really upsetting time coming to your shelter because its easy to see that each animal is cared for in the best way possible and the whole facility is sooo clean and gorgeous. Thank you Ashley & Courtney youre both fantastic!
Theyre always the best. As one who regularly donates to them and has adopted from them, I know what they do there and how well they do what they do.
Very welcoming and helpful. My son and I left with a pretty awesome dog Bodi, which the staff made sure was a good fit for our home. Needless to say we are extremely happy with him and with the amount of great customer service we got. Thank you and please give these animals a loving permanent home.
Wouldnt recommend this place for adoption. They dont hold dogs. My family found a dog we absolutely loved, told them we were going to run home and get the money for the dog . Just 30 mins before we got there they adopted the dog knowing we were coming back.
Clean facility, dogs seem well cared for, and it wasnt a depressing experience with lots of sad dogs.
Lots of cats and mainly pit bulls or pit terriers went looking for a small dog seen one that was adopted!
Adopt a pet, save a life. They are currently low on adoptable dogs, but thats a good thing!
Wonderful group of people volunteer their time here. The dogs are all so special!
Amazing shelter that even adopts our farm animals and small pets ( ferrets rabbits etc.) staff is friendly and wonderfully knowledgeable :)
Clean, helpful, educational, truly care about the animals in their custody.
I love the care and passion the folks at AHS put into the animals in their care. They go out of their way to make sure all your questions are answered from volunteering to fostering to adoption. They also have a plethora of classes and resources to make sure you’re ready for your next furry friend. I’ve volunteered with AHS for 5 years and never had a bad experience.
The humane society has been annitnegral part of my life since I was a kid. Im so thankful to know that if I ever find a stray that needs help the Humane Society will do whatever is in the best interest of that animal no matter the cost. Unfortunately Asheville frequently has strays around, but they either find a great home through this shelter or they live out their lives in comfort and peace. Please adopt, dont shop! Support this local business!
Had a great experience.
We made an appointment. Arrived on time. Sadly the guy acted like he was afraid of the dogs. He had an excuse for not showing as any dogs! Needless to say we didnt get to meet any dogs and left without a fur baby. What a waste!
Excellent place to find your next Best Friend. Caring people, with dedication to the animals they care for.
Asheville Humane Society doesn’t hire people of color.
Excellent, friendly staff! Super friendly and adorable doggies!
Love the work they do for all the animals.
Our family has adopted both a dog and a cat from here.- The adoption process is painless. There was no interrogation nor asking if we would be willing to donate a kidney for the animal.- The dog was a five dollar adoption fee and the cat was free.- I don’t think this shelter qualifies as a no kill but they pretty much are a no kill. I think only under very extenuating circumstances will they put a dog down. It is my understanding that any dog or cat that you come to see for adoption is not at risk of being euthanized. I think that’s kind of nice because it takes the pressure off a little bit.- Included with the adoption is a bag of food and a voucher for a free visit to the vet.- Both animals have excellent behavior and we’re just so pleased with them.- I just dropped off some lightly used bedding and toys that our crew was not interested in. The staff there were so sweet about it.- I have attended Pilates with puppies at Asheville human and a coffee with kittens also hosted by Asheville humane. Both events were fun and entertaining. What more can I say? It’s a pretty great place!
Staff was so helpful. Compassionate and kind
Great place to find a pet!! Only place you need to find one!! Also a great place, just to visit!! lol
I JUST LOOKED AT ON LINE POSTINGS! THATS ALL, AND THEY WERE OK.
Im very happy with my experience there today. I found a wonderful dog and the process was smooth. Thank you all!
Sweetest people in Asheville! You will find your perfect baby here. They truly care about everyone and placing a pet in the best possible family. Hardworking people!
Staff was very courteous and family just didnt have the size dog I needed to meet the requirements where I live. But would highly recommend them to others
Didnt get to see any animals due to power being out. Was told we could come back Tuesday. Havent been back as of yet.
Very nice, great staff.
Very helpful finding my lost pet! They where caring and compassionate and tried hard to help locate my lost dog
Asheville Humane gives lost or surrendered dogs and cats a second chance at a life with a new family. They address medical issues and help them become healthy and socialized. We are lucky to have such a wonderful pet safety net in our community!
They honestly dont even deserve one star!!! 🤬 They wouldnt help me with my issue because i am not able to wear a mask over a medical condition preventing me from wearing one. It was very rude and unprofessional in the environment!!! Im not coming back and would not recommend anyone going their for anything. Go to brother wolf their better than here because BW actually cares!!! I actually have a true story bout this place from when they used to be located on Lees Creek out Leicester, their was a guy that worked their and he was abusive to the animals. He beat a very young puppy and seriously injured it, left it in the cage. The puppy was severely swollen it couldnt get up, raise its head and could barely open its eyes. The guy admitted to beating the poor puppy and he also talked about how he got a thrill of how the cats and dogs would do when he would throw them together in the gas chamber!!!
We now have a beagle kitten in our family. We love the Humane Society of Asheville. We named him Noaa cause he has a stripe on each side that looks like a hurricane. Thank you HS of Asheville.
Their mission is to provide services to animals. The crew is very caring, knowledgeable, and friendly.
The staff was very helpful
I called after hours to file a report for a parakeet I found and they replied before lunch the next day. The person I spoke with was very friendly and eager to help me find the owners. Unfortunately the owner was never found, but the bird is with a friend of mine and thriving wonderfully.
Great place. Clean and run by great caring people.
That during this time services are limited but the employees made it a very pleasurable experience. Way to go guys......
Very Helpful, Courteous & Knowledgeable.
The employees at the AHS were great! They were informative and helpful; they answered our questions and gave us insight regarding the dog we met with. We ended up adopting Reba the same day. She has been wonderful so far.☺
They were good to my little dog.
Love this place and all they do for the animals
They do such a great job helping their community and animals.
I love the work they do helping animals in need. I am currently a cat foster volunteer and it is so rewarding helping take care of and finding a permanent, loving home for a kitty in need. If you have the ability, I definitely suggest volunteering to help foster an animal or donate some basic necessities, like blankets, litter, toys, food, beds, etc. Anything helps :)
I adopted a wonderful Male cat. The best adoption place I have been to. They ask what you are looking for and help you find the perfect pet. I found my perfect pet here. This is a must visit place. The staff is so kind
This is a wonderful place to adopt a furbaby!
Sweet animals but the staff not so much
