I take my car to Tonys exclusively. They have taken care of everything over the years, from oil changes to replacing the transmission. When I bought my car in 2008. it had 50k miles on it. Today it has 206,387, thanks to Tonys. Just this week we drove to Canada and back in the same car with no problems.They know what they are doing, prices are reasonable, staff is helpful and friendly and Im always confident in the work they have done.

I was out of town and my check engine light came on and the car started making a rattling noise. I bought it to Tonys to be checked out and from the moment I stepped in the shop they were pleasant and courteous. I explained the issue and I was told I would get a call to tell me what the issue was. Andy called within the time frame that he said and explained the issue. He told me he would get done what I needed to get me home which is about 2 and 1/2 hours away. My car was fixed in a good amount of time and he told me what I needed to have my home mechanic check out. The cherry on top is that the next day he texted to make sure the car ran well and I got home.

Many years ago, before the Google age or online reviews, I was driving through Old Town in a terrible rain storm. My windshield wiper stopped working. I pulled into Tony’s and he fixed it, no charge. I never forgot his act of kindness after all these years.

Wow. Fantastic service.I had gone to another auto shop near where I live for them to diagnose and give me a quote on what was needed to fix. The car was not in the best drivable condition with the issues that it was having and I just had it in my head that this shop could fix it, no problem. After spending far too much at the other auto shop only to diagnose (nearly $200) - I was given a quote that was out of range of my budget for that month ($$$$)I dont know why I didnt go to Tonys Auto Service in the first place - its closer to my apartment and I walk by the back of the shop multiple times a day. Theyre always polite and friendly.I called Tonys and asked for a quote based on the information that was provided to be from the other shop. I was in shock. Tonys quoted me 50% less than the other shop for the same exact work. Actually it was a bit more than 50% less ($$$). Dropped off my car in the AM, had a full quote emailed to me, called to confirm pricing, and picked it up that afternoon. Every person I spoke to there was kind, considerate, and didnt make feel like an idiot for knowing nothing about cars. The entire transaction was smooth and easy.I will definitely be taking my car to Tonys from now on and referring to them if ever asked. Fantastic service.

I went to Tonys Auto Service after I got a quote from another mechanic for a repair my car needed. Tonys not only did it for less than the other mechanic, they discovered that the original problem that the first mechanic found was not the real problem. I am planning to continue using Tonys in the future.

I first went to Tonys in the early 1980s. Sadly, I strayed away and ended up with a mechanic I liked but didnt realize the shop he worked for was charging ridiculous prices. Smartly I returned to Tony and his place. They are always upfront, call me if things arent going smoothly, invite me to come down and see what theyre talking about and then resolving the issue. I have never been pressured and always feel welcome. And I have brought them things that most places would tell you to take elsewhere. Highly, highly, recommended.

I have a mixed review - what started with disappointing correspondence ended better than expected, though a day late... I was warmly greeted when I brought my SUV in for repair of an oxygen sensor and annual emissions inspection on a Friday morning. I received a phone call as well as an email with an estimate for the work later that morning. I cannot call out from work so gave approval to do the work by email. Late that afternoon I called and spoke to Tony himself to tell him I would not make it there by 7pm to pick up my car but would be there at 8:30 in the morning, to which he replied that they would have the work completed for me and the car on the street.When I arrived the next day I was told the work was not completed because I did not return their phone call... they had only run the diagnostic. There was a local power outage that morning and I was told they could not open the garage door to get my car out (no emergency opener?) and bring it back that evening. I was disappointed as again I would have to take a very long Metro ride to work, which takes 1 1/2 hours to get home after a long day of physical work. I arrived around 7pm that evening and was warmly greeted, the work was reviewed, and my car was out of the garage and on the street ready to go with the required inspection certification. As I drove home I was absolutely delighted to see that they had also repaired my drivers side mirror (it had been hit recently and did not move)! So I ended up a very happy customer, and will return for any other service I need - but will make sure the communication is very clear!

My company ( Fast Transportation) has bought recently 2 buses and Tony’s was recommended by a friend. Dustin is the one in charge when it comes to commercial vehicles. Dealing with him is the way to go. He knows his stuff, is very reliable and delivers. I am very happy I found these guys and I won’t go anywhere else anytime soon. Got a decent amount of work done here such as inspections and some repairs. The first red flag was when they conveniently found problems with both my and my wifes cars breaks during the first inspection, but my car is a little older so I figured it was normal.Had some electrical issues with my A/C but they insisted multiple parts had to be replaced. Spent $2000, and 6 months later the A/C is broken again, go figure.Sure, maybe should have gotten a second opinion. I guess it just goes to show there is no such thing as a trustworthy mechanic.Summary: Go here if you enjoy being scammed by marked up DMV prices for unnecessary repairs (that dont even fix any issues).

I can’t say enough about Tony’s Auto Service.I have always experienced timely repairs at a reasonable price, a fast turn around and efficient labor.The shop is inside the 495 beltway; in Old Town Alexandria, easy to reach to drop offs and pickups.Dustin has taken a particular responsibility of all the problems I have with my buses.

We have brought all our cars to Tonys for years. The work is excellent, the price is right and above all, they are honest. I have brought in cars I had a concern with and had them assure me nothing was wrong and send me away with no charge! Any other garage would have found SOMETHING wrong.

Left a little deflated. You all inspected my car last year after doing a major job to the car (motor). The car passed inspection. Brought my car back for inspection this year and it failed. Funny thing is it failed for defrost. The defrost hasnt worked in 6 years, which means you should have failed it last year and I could have at least gotten it fixed at that time when the motor was put in and I could afford it. Honestly dont know if I will be back. I like consistency.

I first went to Tonys in 2013 and they did an amazing job, fixing my car. Their prices were better than other places I talked to, and they didnt try to sell me on things I didnt need. Ive since moved across town and earlier this year went to a dealership for repair work instead of Tonys. What a mistake! I was asked to buy parts that didnt even belong in my car, and frankly I didnt know better. I had a gut-feeling something was off so I brought my car back to Tonys and they told me what was really wrong (which saved me from wasting nearly $2k!) and had me out the door in a few hours.They dont take appointments, and its first come, first serve but their process works well. Rest assured I wont be taking my car anywhere else!Their team and the service is simply outstanding!

I cant say enough nice things about Tonys Auto Service and Dustin in particular. We have a 2013 Sprinter van that is a pretty complex vehicle and it is serviced at Tonys Auto Service exclusively.Dustin is easy to work with, and very clear in his explanation of service requirements for our vehicle. He is willing to explore repair and upgrade options to suit our specific needs. Dustin also has an encyclopedic knowledge of our vehicle type and the differences between model years. I cant imagine how much his knowledge and experience has saved us in charges that would have accrued at a lesser shop for troubleshooting various issues.Their location is convenient to Metro. They can usually schedule a same day appointment and overall they are a pleasure to work with.

Tonys Auto Service may be a high-volume shop, but theyre old school with seasoned mechanics and friendly staffers. They talk with you to make you feel comfortable with work needed vs. talking in mechanical jargon that leaves most people feeling overwhelmed. Very friendly and professional. Just got in from out of town and had a starter go out on me on a Friday just after 11am. Thought I was going to be stuck until Monday or Tues. The guys at Tonys were able to fix the problem and get me on my way by Friday evening. The price was around what I expected to pay (on the higher end of the scale).No one expects or likes having a car repaired. If you are lucky your car breaks down in front of your house or near a reputable, honest, mechanic. I was in a vulnerable situation without a lot of options...thanks guys for making an awful situation sting a little less.

I took my car here to get an estimate on a quick fix, for a bracket holding my muffler in place. The last place I went to said it would cost $17, but I moved a month later and didnt end up having time to get it fixed. In the area I saw Tonys had good reviews. I took it Tonys to see how much it would cost them to fix it, they told me it would be $100-$150. So honestly I dont know how good their service is, but I might worry about getting a fair price.

Staff and Mechanics are Honest. Reliable. Experts. Reasonable prices. I take my Toyota, Lexus and Acura there. That’s why you see Police, Ambulance and Bus in their lots too. Don’t let the industrial look intimidate you. The owner Tony is very pleasant and has been serving Alexandria for decades.

Tonys is the best service center in the area. They do outstanding work and are the most honest people you will find. I recommend them to everyone. Do yourself a favor and go to Tonys then next time you need service. Ask for Pete!

I was happy about the work and the price, but when I picked up the car, I had 2 brand new scratched to my car. I asked them about it and they were dismissive. Probably doesnt happen all the time, but just be aware.

Finding a good, honest, fair mechanic is like finding a dentist who doesnt try to yank your wisdom teeth on your first visit (true story dental story 1), or insist on a gum scraping when its not necessary (true dental stor.y 2). Tonys Auto Service looks like the garage from Chico & the Man, but dont judge a book by its cover. Metro, many cab companies, and even the Secret Service apparently trust Tonys for their vehicle repairs, and Ive used them for four years now for everything from state inspections, to major repairs, to body work (theyre replacing a latch in my door even as I write this). Tony himself is a first generation Italian immigrant, and has operated a service station (Gulf) for decades (the one that used to be on the corner of Washington Street and Montgomery, for those native Alexandrians who remember the old Old Town). His garage is now located in walking distance to the Braddock Street Metro and a huge bonus is that I can walk to work from this location. The staff is professional and all seem to really love their jobs. One example of his fairness--a particular oil change place tried to get me to have their mechanic replace my brake fluids for $65 a few months ago. I said thanks but no thanks to this oil change place (that shall remain nameless, as I usually have good luck with this place). I took my car to Tonys, which could have seized the opportunity to confirm and charge me for unnecessary replacement. Not only did they say the fluids werent needed, they gave me a courtesy alignment---they didnt charge me since they didnt tell me about doing it beforehand. Tonys has many loyal customers, and Im happy to say Im one of them

Lied to me and said they reached out to the company they purchased my tire from and couldnt return it. The gentleman who seems like he runs the place is extremely rude and has no manners. I pretty much wasted $180 on a tire sitting in my trunk at this moment. I dont recommend them at all. They are overpriced and will cheat you.

I’ve been taking my vehicles to Tony’s for at least 20 years. They always do the job right and get it right the first time.

Its a honest and reliable auto shop but its 1st come 1st serve. I went for a tune up and I told him what needed to be done (spark plugs and coil) and i told him thats why the check engine light was on. he charged me a extra $96 for a diagnostic check that i didnt ask for, since i told him what needed to be done. a 2hr tune up job became a 6hr ordeal.

Tonys takes care of our fleet for our local drivers. We also work with a 3rd party company that reviews all estimates for pricing and maintenance tracking. I have never had any estimates show up questionable from Tonys. It does appear to be first come first serve but we usually drop it off and they tell us when its done.

Wont be back, I was told that I needed a head gasket and I should buy a new car. I got a second opinion and come to find out I just needed a new antifreeze reservoir. Not sure why Tonys couldnt figure out the issue, but I know I wasted my money with them. Not happy and wouldnt recommend anyone to go there.

Terrible job on 1800 catalytic converter and sensors. Light still came on and did nothing to change inspections. Somewhat arrogant. Made me feel like a dummie. I felt like I was gaslighted.

This was the first and last time I am going to patronize this place and it cost me NEARLY $2000 to learn this lesson.First, I must tell you that I thought that I was pretty savy about cars,apparently not I guess. I have a r320 cdi mercedes which I purchased a year back. It had a bad oil leak which I knew was coming from the oil cooler. From the Internet I found it was a 10 hour job. I called Tony Auto, and explained the problem clearly. They agreed it was about a 9 to 10 hour job and labor would be around $1000. Based on this I took the van in. Once there, Tony Auto upped the labor to $1400 plus parts. At that point my inclination was to leave but based on some good reviews, I agreed for the shop to go forward. After 3 to 4 days I got a call from Tony Auto that they had discovered a plug ro an electric motor near the oil cooler had been intentionally disconnected. They said that they would not take any chances and they would not reconnect unless the electric motor and every part in the vicinity, mainly both intake manifolds, was replaced. They had already priced all parts getting them at full price from the dealerAdditional cost would be $2500. I was talking to a guy called Pete. I asked him why would any one intentionally disconnect the plug. He could not explain. He could not even tell the function of the electric motor. He had put the proverbial gun on my head and demanded whether I wanted this extra work done or not. I requested Pete to give me a day to check for cheaper parts and asked him to do the same. Apparently he agreed. A day later Pete called and first asked whether I wanted the extra work done. When I told him that I would want that but I had found the parts at 70 percent less than Tony Auto was quoting, Pete asked me to hold while he checked. He came back in a minute, and told me that they had already started reassembling and it was too late to do the extra work. He was unable to tell me why he had called in that case. He asked me to come within the hour and pick up my van. The bill for this half complete job came to $1900.In the bill $200 was put in as miscellaneous. The van was returned in a dirty condition with the sullied mechanics foot paper still there. The spare wheel compartment was open.Pete is the first guy I have met who had the ability to change his statement within the same sentence. I told him so.This experience with Tony Auto illustrates that they are ignorant, messy, dishonest, incompetent, and sloppy.By all means use them, they are no different than the other bandits in DC.

I dont trust their work and charged more money for changing some minor parts and auto part cost is 150$ and labor cost charged 300+... Labor cost per hr is 110$.. I drop offed my car there and went to work, came back to pick up car... they told me its around $500 for small repair... Its too expensive.. I dont recommend any one... Pls dont trust the all above revies.. Most of the reviews wrote by this company ppl only...
