I give the cope clinic and Dr Stephen Lewis five stars, because they helped me. And I give to Dr Dunklee and Dr Abbott five stars because they helped me with the ECT for two years and five months. And I got better.
Dr. Tomoko Hamma and Dr. Erik Bayona are nightmares, the worst kind of doctor-- doctors whose egos are bigger than their hearts.
My problem is with a Dr. Rose Marquette, who willingly let me suffer withdrawal from benzodiazapines. I frequently disagreed with Dr. Marquette and she sought vengeance by making me suffer.
The nurses and doctors are uneducated. The other staff members are good. They put me on the wrong medications. They need a lot of improvement and education. Most of them need to learn how to listen and be respectful. A few of the staff were nice though. I don’t recommend going but I have no choice. Kaseman hospital is an option. There’s better options in Albuquerque. Research before you go to a hospital unless you have to go. I hope this helped.
I saw a doctor here for just about six years and was finally getting to a place where I’d shared more than I ever have with any other therapist and was beginning to trust her more than anyone I’d seen before and then she fired me as a patient for the pettiest of reasons. And I’m not just saying that, the reason she stopped seeing me was absolutely ridiculous and she as a professional should have been more mature and understanding. Do not go here for for therapy or other help or assistance.
The Doctors that work here are very unqualified. Their nurse didn’t bring me my medications and I had ‘panic attacks’ up until the nurse finally did. I was yelling at her during my panic attacks. She dropped a pill of mine on the floor DURING COVID 19 and I had to take it. Doctors, specifically, did not know what they were talking about when they interviewed me. I heard several other patients arguing with them because they were asking if the patient wore glasses. The patient never did. They accused me of saying things I never said as well. Why TRY to get help here if 1. They don’t bring you your medications until they order it 2. Nurses & Doctors in the facility can’t simply understand what you’re telling them. In result, twist patients words. They seem to have to think a lot before they administer medication but old patients who are hard to tolerate-they give them strong sedatives. They are very poor at understanding.
I have a family member in right now at UNM psychiatric and it is awful everytime he calls me I hear nothing but screaming, from the other patients. I feel so bad for him and now he is so miserable there. He tells them that the medication is making him so sleepy and cant even think like theyre over medicating him I feel so awful that he is there.
Most of the nurses seem very nice. A good place to make friends, I guess. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.
Its better to pull your own hair out than to go to this place
I gave this one star because they just threw me out on the streets when I was mentally ill and begging for help early in the morning. I have no respect for UNM whatsoever. I was actually planning on going to college in UNM but instead I’m going to college somewhere else! I have no purpose in going UNM or neither do I care for going back to New Mexico because it’s such a shame how cruel these people are! And for anyone that had this same situation happened, my heart goes out to you all and I’m very sorry that happened to you! I don’t hate New Mexico, I just hate the fact how people can be in New Mexico. It’s all about money to them!
This review is for their START clinic.RUN!!! Professional therapist should never gaslight you. Mine did, in the first 10 minutes of my visit. On top of starting this visit off with a vulnerability smashing re-frame, she changed my medication to one that my insurance didnt cover and shorted me on my other. She was cold and arrogant. One of the notes on my problem list stated I had Sever Neoplasms. Brain Tumors? Is this a joke?On my second visit I decided to confront her about how awful she made me feel and how disappointed I was with her care. My complaint was meet with defensiveness and ultimately dismissed. She eventually offered to bring in the attending therapist on duty so I could air my grievance to him as well. He too was cold and exuded a judgy holier-than-thou vibe. I re-explained everything at length and in greater detail this time. This guy had the huevos to blame me for this horrible treatment! He actually said Has it occurred to you that maybe you are looking to be mistreated.Gas lighting from a professional physiologist should be criminal. If you are considering looking for help at the START clinic I would proceed with extreme caution. This was a terrifying and heart crushing experience. I feel utterly betrayed and disgusted by the lack of professionalism at the START clinic. Beware this vipers den...
Had an excellent time here. Would go again as long as they quit spitting in my drinks and asking me if Im okay afterwards.
Unsure how to rate this, frankly. Its a mental hospital. They do a reasonably good job of keeping their patients safe, and the staff seems nice, but its still a pretty unpleasant place.
Nothing but liars and thieves the value the dollar over any actual service they provide.
Some of the nurses on the west unit were a little rigid with enforcing all of the rules and visitation times. Most of the staff that I met was polite and courteous. The facility is somewhat dated and had a One flew over the cuckoos nest feel to it. I suppose the extra security precautions and locked down amenities are needed. The patients were mingling with one another co-ed style, which made me concerned about my girlfriends safety. I also noticed a lack of male nurses or security personnel. I dont mean to sound sexist, but there were a few really stout male patients that could have easily overpowered the all female nursing staff. I am grateful for the job that nurses do, there is no way I could have the patience or empathy that they give on a daily basis. Anyways, I gave 4/5 stars; Its alright for a mental health unit, just not somewhere you want your loved ones or yourself to be any longer than necessary.
I have been coming here for years outpatient. Theyre not lavishly funded, and it may take a while to get an initial appointment, but once youre established, they do a pretty good job. Its part of the teaching hospital, so they also have TMS, ECT, and esketamine therapy. The clinics are open from 8 or 9 am, and Psych Emergency Services (PES) is open 24 hours. However, unless something has changed radically for the better, the inpatient side is not great because they only do med changes and monitoring, not therapy. The outpatient therapy is very DBT and mindfulness-focused which isnt great if those have not worked for you.
If you need to take a loved one somewhere for mental health reason run as fast as you can away from UNM. Not only in a 24 hr period did they let my daughter sign herself out where she was found walking the streets naked and returned there but the following morning I received a call asking if we would be willing to take her home with us when she was released our answer was yes. After waiting for a couple of hours I called back and was rudely told that she checked herself out again stating she didnt want to come home with us and was hung up on. Our daughter called from a strangers cell phone just seconds after that pleading for us to pick er up stating she was told we didnt want her home. She was very confused where she was but we told her just to stay and we would find her. We called the emergency psych dept again asking where they walked discharged patients out and was rudely hung up on by a Chris. for the 2nd time. We did find our daughter curled in in a ball with no shoes on crying.
There are very kind and helpful people working at the psychiatric urgent care.
My names is Jay Lawrence. Im the stepson of convicted Catholic Priest Lawrence J. Lovell. He is well known for his abuses. He is currently in prison in Arizona and set to be released in 4 years. I am pursuing charges against him for his sexual abuse towards me, which was not part of his current sentence. I am also looking at investigating further into how and why the Catholic Church was able to pay for his doctoral education after his first conviction in the 1980s, and he was able to walk away without any prison time. After his education, he was able to be certified by the state of New Mexico, as a practicing psycho-therapist, which apparently did not conduct a back-ground check on him before certifying, and the University of New Mexico Mental Health Center which employed him. My childhood was robbed from me, and I have taken decades to try and rebuild myself from these traumas.
Not a good place for mental health, Literally go anywhere else!
Although my ex & her mom try to falsely accuse me of physical harm the allegations are unsubstantiated.Thankfully the Staff saw through the lies & I was not admitted for evaluationThey are very smart wise & wonderful!
Prescribed Prozac to a 9 year old...
I feel very grateful to live in a State that offers healthcare to those who need it but cant afford it. I have been a patient for many years and the staff has always treated me with respect and dignity.
Extremely difficult to get through to simply make an appointment at adult psychiatric center. When I finally did (after getting transferred several times, being placed on hold, hanging up, and calling back) the person I spoke with interrogated me and was quite unpleasant (perhaps not raised with manners). If they were a private company, they would not likely be in business. It is unfortunate.
I am grateful that they tried to help me and that they always have.
They just keep you on meda and you sleep til a visitor comes and til you get to eat and the food makes you constipated so you have to ask for cola when and they wont give it to you but theyll give you 10 mg of lorazepam and 100 mg of trazadone and then you sleep some more. Its so boring in this place and it feels like if your not already crazy your gonna go bonkers . The drs inpatient will believe you when you tell them you dont wanna hurt yourself or dont want to die even if you do deep down, and as long as you say you dont have a plan then your okay to get out soon. The showers are cold here, and you get roommates who always want to be awake while you sleep and sleep while your awake . You cant do your makeup unless a nurse or orderly watches you do it so do t even bother to do it and the shampoo body was stiff they give you drugs out your skin, and the lotion smells weird .Theres only 2 nurses here that I want to talk to . One of them is Hannah she has a really cool accent and is super nice.Sometimes if theres too many people in rooms youll have to sleep out in the foyer by the nurses station, and your not allowed to have a pencil or pen unless its rubber .Sometimes in the summer they will have a BBQ outside with hamburgers and soda. Usually you get stuck eating graham crackers and Gatorade that isnt really sweet all day.Last time the girl that stayed in my room put on all my clothes and said they were heres and no one believed that they were mine until my mom told them that they were .Its not fun to be here or relaxing and all there is to do all day is walk ina circle or watch stupid tv. I hate being here because its so tedious and boring and when you try to be honest with people they kind of brush you off unless its Hannah who actually listens to how you feel. The clinics are weird I used to see dr Lin,then she left me and I had to see dr Cruz who was really awesome but thought I needed to see another dr but now I see dr narrow and hes pretty okay too but not as easy to talk to as dr Cruz or dr Lin . Sometimes they tell you they cant read you because your face has no expression and they dont r ally tell you your full diagnosis unless your someones mom or something . The receptionists at the cope clinic were nice but they got new ones who dont really treat you the same as the old ones but they always have snacks so thats good in the morning when you go to see your dr. The I ope clinic is good too. But if you have a problem with your script, forget reaching after hours of trying to fix it the same day youll just have to wait til your next appointment. Also it sucks that you have to pay a copay for dbt counseling after youve been referred specially when you really need it and the dr keeps asking you if youve gone yet and you havent cos your broke:/This is mixed feeling its good and bad so I guess it just depends
UNM Mental Health was of absolutely no help to my daughter who really needed it.
The worst place I have ever taken a family member to!!! No compassion!!!. Rude staff all the way around !! WILL NEVER RETURN!!
They always treat me well. Parking pass is a pain, but otherwise good.
They care about your wellbeing
They become too full and turn away new patients.
Granted, this is a psych center, so you are going to be among people that make you uncomfortable, but this was truly more traumatizing to me than if I had just not voluntarily committed myself at all.
I need help with my 33 yr old son patrick candelaria ...please help him....
They turn people away who need help with psychiatric issues and suicidal thoughts. TERRIBLE!!!!!
I stayed here a couple of days cause of problems and was made fun for been dumb and it did not help as I was there for depression try the west wing good luck
Listened very well showed concern asked the hard questions
They actually talk and listen!!! And help
I went in and the nurse was real rude so I called to complain and the head nurse was just as rude. Seems to be a trend. Dont go
Great providers!
Slow in service
I received really great care from everyone in the psychiatric unit in 2018 I want to thank dr Abbott and his team for bringing me back
