Hogares is getting exactly what it deserves! I was there as a teenager from 1983 to 1985, and all I experienced was abuse, neglect, and unjustified punishment for trying to express who I was as an individual. A couple of times, I was nearly raped by one of the boys in the home where I stayed, and no one believed me or did anything to punish the boy. And if I liked certain things that the other residents and staff couldnt relate to, I was often ridiculed, shunned, and sometimes even prevented from enjoying my favorite activities. I was recently diagnosed with autism, but when I was at Hogares, I always felt disliked and misunderstood, as if it were my fault I couldnt relate to anyone my own age. I was so relieved when I finally was released to go home in July of 1985. Good riddance!
