Old outdated equipment. Horrible management. Least friendly group of people I’ve ever encountered. There’s new gyms popping up everywhere and this one acts like they are still the premium club they once were in 90’s. Some of the younger staff they have are pretty welcoming but the managers, desk and office staff are downers. Most people like me go to the gym as their happy place this is everything but that. If it wasn’t for the friendly clientele and racquetball courts I would without a doubt choose another gym.

Starting back S&W to get back into shape after getting my vaccinations. Unfortunately, they have had to cut back on their group class schedule. I used to go to Body Pump on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at Highpoint or Del Norte, but there is no Tuesday class at either location. So I tried Riverpoints Body Pump class at 9:30AM. Its 6-minute longer drive to Riverpoint then Del Norte from my house, so its not too bad. Same quality of instructors and equipment. Im still hoping that the Highpoint Body Pump glass gets reinstated.

Riverpoint is easily my favorite gym in Albuquerque! And my favorite of the Sports and Wellness gyms in the area. The staff is always friendly! The equipment is always very well maintained and up to date. They are always renovating to keep things new. The members are also nice. Not very many meat heads, which keeps grunting to a minimum!

Im posting specifically to address the present conditions at Riverpoint, post-COVID shutdown. My goal is to share my experience with members who have not yet returned and might wonder what the situation is like. Ive worked out at Riverpoint nearly everyday since it re-opened a few weeks ago. I use both the cardio room and weight machines on the main floor. I returned to RP with a wait-and-see approach, uncertain how comfortable Id feel. Im pleased to say that the measures RP has taken to ensure a clean, safe workout environment are impressive. Prior to entering the gym, a staff member takes each members temperature, using a no-touch thermometer. When checking in at the desk, were given a spray bottle of disinfectant and a towel to clean the machines we use. In the cardio room, every other machine is unavailable for proper distancing. Usually, the crowd is sparse enough that spacing is greater yet. On the floor, where the weight machines are located, the number of people varies quite a bit, depending upon the day and time. There are times where Ive found myself avoiding some machines when there were too many people in the immediate vicinty. This hasnt happened that often. I can always find another machine where there are few or no people nearby and return later to any machine I avoided earlier after the area has cleared. Bottom line is that the spacing seems safe and adequate to me. Only a few people wear masks. I would consider wearing one on the floor when doing weight work for a higher comfort level, especially when its more crowded. Ive only witnessed one person not cleaning the machines he uses. Only one. (I assume his mommy always cleaned up for him.). Everyone one else cleans his/her machine thoroughly. Also, cleaning staff is constantly circulating throughout the entire gym, disinfecting machines. Im not sure what more RP could do to ensure the gym is safe and sanitary. Their protocols have exceeded my expectations and Im thrilled to be working out again.

Class instructors are awful, very un inclusive. They have their favorites whom they call out by name and make personal conversation during class. Some members they ignore completely. Add it fosters an environment of entitlement for some people, they think they own the club. I realize some of the instructors are old and may have known some of class members for many years, may even socialize outside the club, but this is business, keep it professional like the other clubs. I’m going back to Downtown and Midtown where classes are more professionally run and there are no teacher’s pets. Ive been a member since 1993, Ive been to all locations and Riverpoint is by far the worst as far as instructor professionalism.

Not only is this place overpriced for what they offer, but their customer service is terrible. I was not told when I signed up for the month-to-month membership that if I wanted to cancel I needed to give them a 30 day notice (why is it called month-to-month then?) until I actually went to cancel the membership.. got charged for two months (December and January) that I wasnt even using the gym, even though I cancelled at the beginning of December for January 1st. Customer service was very rude when I spoke to them on the phone about it. Chuze fitness offers the SAME EXACT MEMBERSHIP for $40, whereas sports and wellness is almost $90 after a student discount... yall are a ripoff*Editing to add that they also upped the monthly charge to $97 when I went to pay the charges. Pretty interesting that the monthly rate just happened to increase after I had already cancelled the membership.

I got a membership around 3 Months ago. My reason for being at the gym is for weight lifting. I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the feel of the place. The gym is one of the best gyms for free weights on the west side and they do welcome weight lifters. The gym is pricey but it’s nice to go in and get treated well. Plus they have activities all day long. Check it out I’m sure you’ll like it but remember the price is high compared to the rest of the gyms but, also look at what they offer for their price. With other gyms remember you do get what you pay for. The other side that my wife likes is that they are kid friendly and have a place for kids while you work out. Its nice to see families there.

The pool has turned into daycare - and that is before the blast campers come out to have their free time. Kids in diapers, in the adult locker rooms and no room to do a physical therapy pool workout. Inside pool is empty but outside it is like a picnic area with tons of families that bring about 8 kids per family. And, they restrict the lanes until the campers come out for free swim - adults really have nothing. This is at 11:30-1:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lap swimmers have nothing left either. Like going Westide Aquatic Center.

We joined up with the family plan and after about six months being members they came out actually pulled my wife out of a class, told her the daycare could not watch our youngest son because he wouldnt stop crying. We did let them know we didnt want to come anymore because of this and after 6 months accumulating gym memberships. That we were not using and we were told that there was no contract when we signed up in the first place. their collection department called me demanding almost $1,000. I tried to work out some kind of an arrangement or agreement but they sarcastically, and rudely demanded the money as if I owed it to them. even though I did not use their services whatsoever.they pretty much did not make us feel welcome at their gym at all. Ill tell you what they have a strong committed team on collecting money, taking you to collections and having no problem ruining your life over this gym membership business. I was just glad I was in a position to be able to stroke out nine hundred and some dollars to satisfy these charges I didnt even use. Beware signing up with this gym!!!!

I decided to write my review after seeing so many bad ones here! The ONLY REASON why I decided to sign up here is because they ALLOW CHILDREN in the pool! For some might be a turn down but that’s the only reason why I am here! It sucks for those who are affected by it but we pay good money to be here with our families. Those who say that kids are everywhere in the picnic area... well YEAH! It’s summer time and unfortunately kids are EVERYWHERE 🙄😂... Some people will never be pleased but I try to find the positive and so far I am happy here.

I had to laugh at the reviews. Obviously these people dont have a lot of experience with other gyms, especially national chains. There are literally a dozen programs and classes a day, from yoga and water aerobics to boxing and body pump classes, spinning, plates, etc. They have indoor and outdoor pools in great shape and clean, a large hot tub and a steam room. Unlimited towel service and locker use, private high number showers, super friendly and constantly working custodial staff, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, racket ball courts and an indoor track. The childcare is excellent, you are required to call ahead and there is limited (this is a good thing) slots to ensure good care/teacher ratios, my kids love it and there are programs and swim lessons and even a parents night out option, etc. This type of club is built around a higher than average monthly cost. Provided you are down with a $70/month fee, you will appreciate the significant upgrade vs defined fitness and its better than LA Fitness, 24 HR fitness, Golds and others like it.Its always a hard sell when you first go, like any place. Theyll waive the start up fee, then you just go yearly or monthly, and whatnot like everywhere else. You cant get out early of your contract, just like every single other gym in the planet without penalty, so go month to month for $10 more. This is gym 101 stuff people...

I put my membership on a leave of absence for a few months not paying full monthly membership.I signed paperwork to cancel membership and was told I would pay one more month membership. Well they will hit me for FULL membership dues and not the leave of absence rate. Oh and you will be hit with annual increases to your membership. I started at $80 a month for two now I’m at $110. The yoga instructors are terrible - Karen Byers is particularly bad; after she started teaching the Sunday morning yoga class, it dropped from over 50 regulars to about 10, mostly new people. It does no good to complain, all the old timers like myself (I joined over 15 years ago) either left the gym or went to Midtown. I refused to drive halfway across town for a decent yoga class, so I quit, then the manager gave me a hassle when I asked for a signed cancellation. Management also used to be great at this club but like everything else has gone downhill. I used to love this club, its sad how it changed.

Upon starting a membership they are very vague in explaining things. The gender specific locker rooms are ONLY for adults but they pick and choose who to discriminate to utilize it. I was originally told my 5-year-old daughter could use the locker room so long as myself or my 15- year- old daughter were with her but just recently were told she could not use the locker room with me but instead was suggested she go to the family locker room alone (Now sending my 5-- year- old alone is the red first red flag) which is definitely not as welcoming or tended to in a sanctuary manner. Upon voicing my concerns of boys being in the girls family locker room i was told we could just change in the stalls (there are 2 showers & 1 toilet in there). Back up to that was a suggested usage of the unisex bathroom upstairs (seriously, who wants to change where several other people use the bathroom all day long especially with their lack of sanitary procedures for those specific spots?) Im a busy woman so no I dont get to go all the time like they expect me to just to talk about several issues of rudeness from employees (trainer, check-in, & a manager) only never to actually hear from the general manager as promised. Now i will say it was a nice facility when we started with our trial but as soon as we joined all that fluff dissipated. We thought this was a family friendly environment but obviously we were mistaken. With how much you pay for a membership and are not allowed to utilize much of anything its a wonder how anyone continues to utilize their facilities.

I am very disappointed with Sports and Wellness. All locations are filthy. Black mold in the showers and on shower curtains, vents coated with thick dust, sweat drips and drink spills on the floor and the equipment never gets cleaned. The only locations where I have seen staff cleaning in the fitness areas are Highpoint and DelNorte. However, even though these locations have employees cleaning the fitness areas, what gets missed at every location is the locker room. Cleaning staff are in the locker rooms often, but they dont do anything other than replace towels and fill soap. Perhaps they could also mop the bathrooms and spray down showers with bleach at least once during the day.DelNortes locker room smells like dirty feet. Perhaps a regular schedule of shampooing the carpet would help. Midtown and Riverpoints showers are lined with mold and black/green slime. The water temperature at Riverpoint is dangerous. The showers fluctuate temperature based on water usage in other parts of the locker room so you can go from a comfortable water temp to scalding to cold all within a few seconds. This can be repaired, but they are too cheap to do it.Another area of concern is equipment maintenance. It takes weeks for equipment to be repaired. When the same pieces of equipment routinely breakdown, its time to replace it.More consistency and attention to detail among the clubs would be appreciated. New equipment should be a priority for all locations. The downtown weight room can really use an update. It looks like the downtown location gets all the hand downs from other locations.Sports and Wellness promotes themselves as a premier, country club type facility and they charge accordingly. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and upkeep of their facilities and equipment tell a different story.I have brought these concerns to the management at each location and nothing changes. They dont care about members, just your money.

I was a member at this facility for 6 years, until recently. I ended my membership because I moved away from ABQ. The club has many friendly and helpful staff members, it is fairly well maintained, and the facilities are comfortable.BEWARE, however, that the club staff is not truthful in selling their membership and personal training plans. They tell you one thing when you sign up and deliver something different. Dont believe anything they tell you about termination provisions, or refunds if you are transferred away. NEVER prepay for personal training packages in large amounts because you could very well never see your money again (or get the training sessions you were promised).

Beyond fed up with this gym.Amazing facility but the customer service? Pathetic.I joined this gym in May and fell in love with the facility and amenities, my problem came in when Brianna (sales rep) signed me up at a monthly rate of $153.00She informed me to submit proof of residence for me and my partner to keep that rate. We submitted our proof that very night.Guess what I got charged come June 1st?$199.57I called, asked what happened and she said to fix the problem, how about she offer me July and August for free? What a deal!! Too good to be true? You bet.Guess what I got charged July 1st?$226.54 (forget the agreement, let’s just charge our customers whatever tf we feel like)I was out of town and when this charge hit my account on the 1st it over-draftedmy account. I was really confused and BEYOND annoyed.July 2nd, I went in to see the manager, Shawn who seemed to understand that this was bs and that I would get my money back. He informed me that I would have to wait 10 business days for that refund. It’s is now July 17th and I still have no refund, no call back (after calling many times and leaving voicemails just to get an update) (politely in other words where TF is my money or your professionalism, or your customer service???)Is it that hard to get on the phone and communicate??I’m only paying you 200 bucks a month now which isn’t even in my agreement for me to pay??So I have to work hard to make sure there is money in my account for them to charge yet they can violate your agreement anytime, charge you more than your rate, and not even have the decency to call you and try to fix the problem.UPDATE: As of July 19, 2019. I finally got a call back from Debbie at Corporate office in Denver notifying me that my refund was never processed but that she would process it and it will take up to 14 business days.Wow.Customer service is #1 at my workplace. We execute this philosophy because we value the people who are paying us to do our job. Riverpoint Sports and Wellness, where do I begin. Well, the 4th of July event was spectacular and the family friendliness is exceptional! Reid has one amazing HITT class and Brihanna in sales is phenomenal from there it just goes downhill. Two stars are generous but my son loves the gym and the pools. Typically, I do not like to write bad reviews and normally give business multi chances. I am currently on more than three strikes with this location. I have left a message for GM Shawn, Stacy in Sales and with JD the manager of the personal trainer and multi unanswered texts from my personal trainer Antoinette. To get a response I had to engage the Sports and Wellness Del Norte location. From the moment we started, they messed up our billing, from incorrectly entering my cc and NOT notifying us in any manner (we were brand new members), to charging $2700 to my account in personal training, now they are not honoring the 3-month personal training sessions, as agreed in writing and refused the request for a copy of the contracts. I had to cancel two sessions and was more than willing to pay for her time. I gave notice but not 24-hour notice. Antoinette no-showed and no-texted and then tried to say I was out of sessions. This is ridiculous.Sports and Wellness should be the most professional, clean and really the star of gyms in the ABQ market. The services, the classes, and the cosmetic appeal of the facility are well below market standards. The facility is old and worn out and lacks the class A expectation for a gym at this price point. With so many new options like Chuze opening across the street, Spenga just to the south and even Define Fitness Wellbridge they should look at revamp of this location. In addition, the poor customer services, lack of responsiveness from the GM Shawn and the unprofessional trainers and staff and there is the making for a very uninviting gym. I should give a shout out to the front staff because they always greet you with a welcoming smile but do not have the authority to say or help.Overall, the equipment is old, the classes are limited, and the services and personal training is terrible. I cant believe the difference between the Del Norte Sports Wellness and Riverpoint. There is no comparison just drive across the river. Riverpoint Sports and Wellness is not up to standards and this stress is bad for your health.

Riverpoint Sports and Wellness is a beautiful gym with a friendly and knowledgeable staff! There is something for everyone here! They have racquet ball courts, basketball courts (inside and outside), an indoor and outdoor pool, an indoor track with weights and cables, etc., a converted racquet ball court that serves as a CrossFit-like room, cardio room, jacuzzis, saunas, and a studio for classes. The place is seriously awesome!!! If anyone says otherwise, then they are not, in my opinion, committed to a fit lifestyle. Seriously, how can you not love this place?

They should have security outside. My son works out there at night and I worry about him walking to car.

Many of the cardio machines are sub functional. The weight room is too crowded. Some people tie up multiple machines to do their circuit training. I am sorry I have wasted my money here.
