Pretty decent equipment but the basketball courts can use a little work
I was visiting family in Albuquerque last week and after a few phone calls to several gyms, I decided to try their fitness center. It was fabulous and was just what I needed. There were many different machines for cardio plus lots of weight machines. It is clean and the workers were very friendly. Estine (I hope I spelled her name correctly) was especially kind at the front desk. I was there at 5:30 AM and she was always smiling. She made a point of greeting everybody. She asked me how my visit was going and was so pleasant. It was a great way to start my day. I will definitely go back when I am in Albuquerque. Thank you! I recommend this YMCA and their fitness center most highly!
Front desk lady was awesome!!!We were traveling cross country and stopped in to workout for an hour, she made more coffee for us and was friendly to everyone
Ebony, Johnny, Estine, Cindy...just a few of the dedicated team members supporting members new and established.
Its a friendly environment. The area and equient is clean and theyre hours are convenient.
Staff there are so nice and ready to help you.
Im a returning member to the YMCA after trying Defined Fitness for a while after a situation with my debit card, they did say anything was wrong when I want to workout they wouldnt let me because I had a balanceOffered to pay off my balance, they said it was sent it To a collection agency! And wouldnt let me pay itI will never go back there again!!!
My husband and I visited ABQ for the National Senior Games this past week. ABQ opened their arms to all the athletes from across the nation. I would like to thank the staff at this YMCA for their kindness and support. I was able to work out prior to my matches. The Governor was generous to allow the athletes to use the wonderful facilities. My womens 60 year old team did get in the silver bracket but was not fortunate enough to come out with a medal. It was great to have come from Maryland to play at such a high level. My whole experience in Albuquerque, New Mexico was a fantastic one. Thank you.
I signed up with a siver sneaker membership which was quick and easy. The staff is professional and nice. Impressive renovations and the equipment : cardio and weights are very good. Great job by this place!
Many good machines to work with.
Bean going there for years, always great.
Great leg workout area for sled, tire flips, hex squat, farmers Carry and more.
My husband signed up for the free trail period and was still charged. After multiple phone calls and filling out cancelation paperwork we are still being charged. 3 months in a row with no refund. Do NOT sign up for the free trial, it is NOT free and will cost you a lot of time and money to dispute the charges!
Another good workout. Facility is looking good and the staff were helpful.
Please do not sign your child up for summer camp here AT ALL unless you want to see your child more SUNBURNT than you have ever experienced (because they will not allow sunscreen if the children forgot their sunscreen and other children are not allowed to share either!)) and no matter what age- your child better know proper ways to put on sunscreen because they will NOT help them put it on. That being said, if you child is able to reach their back effectively- GREAT ! I personally do not know a young child that can. They they will take field trips to the zoo which is great, but for a solid 4 HOURS in the JULY NM sun without proper sunscreen application is not. I have never seen my granddaughter SO SUNBURNT as when she was enrolled here. And I mean DAILY. EVEN though she had her own sunscreen. The management offers one thing and does another; and I cannot stress enough to any parent with ears.... PLEASE enroll for summer camp SOMEWHERE ELSE. YMCA is supposed to be a great place for children and families. Perhaps that is true for a mom or dad who wants to lift weights and casually work out - maybe even for a brief visit to swim- but not for your precious childs summer vacation. The instructors CAN be kind sometimes and sometimes you may not get a kind one - but either way they all simply babysit, and watch over them. The instructors do not play with them at ALL. Picture some one twirling a whistle while watching your kids and you got the picture. If you have an issue with management, one thing is offered, another thing is done - and they make YOU feel like YOU did something wrong. Nothing is handled professionally or maturely by the NM YMCA management. Please spare yourself the experience !
Ive been a member here for about 1.5 years. The pros:-free childcare w/ competent workers who genuinely seem interested in your child.-almost never crowded and the members here are unpretentious folk who just enjoy fitness-friendly staff who want to get to know you-reasonable membership fees-It is a very clean facilityThe cons:-Childcare has very limited hours. There are classes that I would sometimes like to attend but there is no childcare during those hours.-The equipment selection is small and a bit outdated, but seems to be improving over time.-The sports director seems very disorganized. We asked for a basketball to shoot hoops on the court and he did not know where either the basketball or a pump (the ball was very flat once it was found) could be located.Overall this is a good medium sized gym. Compared to other YMCAs around the country however it is behind the times. I feel it is in need of some rejuvenating and modernizing. Hopefully with the addition of the new functional fitness/large weight room this can happen.
Customer service is Great...
Enjoy the work out and my son has enjoyed the summer camp.
Love the gym perfect for me and my family but trainers mess with eachother around alot
The original Albuquerque YMCA at 4901 Indian School Road was built in the 1940s, I believe, and considering the volume of people that have used this structure sinceits opening, its held up well . The building is certainly not aesthetic competition forthe spiffy looking health spas about town . But it also lacks expensive fees touse state-of-the-art equipment, in an ultra modern building with narcissistic trainerswhere no kids are allowed .For people on a limited budget, like myself, its NOT a completely insufficient place to help stay physically fit and interact with other community minded people .The staff is very helpful . I lost 87 pounds with their exercise plan . It aint all bad !
I made multiple attempts to get my son registered for one of their sporting activities. I spoke to the receptionist at the front, but she had absolutely no clue on what activities were available. I also asked to speak to someone who would have knowledge of the activities offered but again she didnt know who I could talk to and recommended just looking at the website. I will say that they have a decent website and even offer the ability to register online. However, when I went to register for the activity I was interested in it there wasnt an option to register for it. After multiple attempts, I called the facility a couple of times and left voicemails. No response. I ended up getting my son registered in i9 sports, which so far has been a much better experience. I ended up speaking to a couple of other parents, and each of them had bad experiences with this YMCA and one of them was successful in getting their son registered in soccer but said it was poorly ran. I guess I should be happy that I was able to avoid this poorly run facility.
Nice staff and great machines with plenty of non-overcrowded space for cardio, weights etc. A small gym for basketball and volleyball too! Even have a family shower/changing room. The pitiful part about this Y is it could have been amazing if they had not filled the swimming pool with concrete after about 18 months of brain-storming what to do. I cancelled our membership and my family joined a competitor gym. Build a new pool and people will come!
They charged me a late fee on a day that was already paid. The explanation is they want the following week paid before (understandable) but I had no clue. Cut a mother a break. I pay for two weeks ahead every time. Late fee is a joke.
Great daycare staff and very affordable. My daughter is learning multiple ways of communication and has developed great friendships. They also encourage parent involvement which is always a plus.
Offer good programs for kids and adults
If I could give them a lower rating I would. Mostly because the child care staff is the worst. No one watching the kids, on their phones, and they talk to them so rude. Dont take your child there.
Great daycare staff for the preschool, and toddler room, and very friendly childwatch staff. Very family oriented 😊
I think its a great facility. Whoever said the gym is packed must have never been to Defined or Sports and Wellness. There is always cardio machines available and rarely have to wait for a machine. Its actually very nice.
Customer service lacks
I give it a 2 because their gym is amazing but their volleyball program needs a new director. The girl tells me and my team that we horrible and that they wish we werent in the program. Their refs dont pay attention during games and they dont know how to keep track of points. This season my team was not scheduled to be in the turnoments, which everyone gets into the turnaments, and so my coach had to cancel practice because we no loner have a space to practice in.
Snowbird going South was refused a shower even though I had been there year before & had a YMCA MEMBERSHIP DENVER 580685. Offered my Silver Sneakers # to them & it was also refused, even tho Salina, KS YMCA had no problem taking it. Management doesnt know what they are doing!
I enjoy coming to this gym because they seem to have more equipment then their other location. But.... lately I have encountered rude customer service from Gina which so happens to be management. She never smiles or welcomes you. Instead she is looking for any wrong doing she may think you are doing. So she can approach you in a rude manner. I hope YMCA takes a look into it.
No pool with the remodel, i remembe the 80s daycare model of making all children sit by the wall. old pool closed. group finess room is hard on thr body dueto, concrete floor.
Love this place just joined and dont regret it the childcare is a+ have a 2 month old and childcare is the best machines always available just need to make apt for personal trainer to show me what exercise to do to get toned and fit thanks ymca.
I love YMCA and the staff has been excellent and very kind. However, Gina at the front desk is extremely rude. She has terrible customer service. She was trying to explain to me a policy, but her tone of voice was extremely un-friendly and instead of kindly explaining it came off very rude.
I just like the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the place and the machines are great and the staff is nice!
Poor management. The pool was permanently closed, and the management seems to be incapable of planning for its refurbishment. The weight room is crowded. I thought that the $56 monthly membership was overpriced for the limited services provided. If they got the pool back, I would rejoin. Parking lot is often close to full and they cant get the pool running = bad management.
Work out here often. Good place. Not crowded, good equipment.
Sad the classes arent up and running yet.
Be advised that as of summer 2016 the pool has been closed permanently, for lack of funds needed for upkeep. You should visit and see if the facilities are worth it to you - but theyre run down, the machines are overused and poorly maintained, cleanliness could be a lot better, and the whole place gives the sense that its on the way out.
Visited from out of state a little over a month ago. Walked in. Waited. Receptionist seemed swamped. That or she couldnt handle her job. I asked if they participated in the Y Away program. She frantically waved me by and told me to just go in. I asked where the locker room was. She frantically pointed, Down there! I went in. She didnt ask to see my membership card or ask for I.D. Its not like I was a regular; Im from PA. I was carrying a decent sized gym bag. Could have had a gun in there. Could have been a registered sex offender. Building full of children.
Great family friendly place, very reasonably priced, with a lot of fun classes and a wide range of equipment
Drove hour into town to take kids swimming but because aps is back in school Albuquerque pools are no longer open to the public during the weekday despite what the website says. Called ywca and for a $20 day pass my kids and my wife and I were able to swim for just about the same price as it would have for albuquerque and the hours were during the weekday when we can get into town. Clean facility. Nice staff and helpful. We have plans to set aside some of our income tax return to get a yearly membership. Looking foward to using the weights. Thanks ymca!
I love the YMCA I took a trip of all the YMCA in the south west region and this one is the best one of all.
Friendly staff, decent equipment, no pressure to sign up for extras that you dont want. The price is half what I paid at S & W and I have escaped the attitude & the meatheads as well!
Great gym and fun activities for the kids.
Friendly service, good machines, shower ice cold
Very friendly staff and a lot of classes to choose from if you dont want to train independently. It is a little on the pricy side though.
Nicest staff and an awesome place to work out
Best gym ever friendly
Build a pool
Should get a sauna💪😁
Professional staff
Good people love it
You can do good sports here
