I was a resident here at one point in my life, it is a miracle to have this amazing place! I would have froze to death if not for the grate amazing people here! I love you all and thank you for saving my life!!
You are under Gods roof here, absolutely amazing staff. You follow where they lead you, there is no where but up!! You are in the hands of God there. If you let him in!! 🙏🙏🙏
Still a wonderful place that god allows people to rebuild their lives .. Some of the nicest people come transformed thru god come out of their .
If you can handle the bazare behaviors of others, the staff treating you like a child, and if you can handle being forced against your will to participate in medicaid, and tolerate their judgement then take the free bed and food. I had to leave because I refused medicaid and then my car was almost stolen. I rather sleep in my car and protect it. Folks come in waves so its a constant change. They dont have real counselors on staff which they should. They parade you around like a circus freak. The staff appear untrained and yet demand required tasks of each person. They need real psychiatrist and real counselors because their success rate that I had seen was 1%.
They helped my sister who is mentally ill when no one else would. Yes, they are a Christian organization, which I guess some people dont like but I dont see any secular organizations doing the kind of work they are doing. They also provide meals to anyone needing it. My sister said they were the best group of people she has worked with; the meals were very good and she felt safe there. I am very grateful to them.
So far so good
A good place to start over
Doing the best possible.
I found myself in a situation where I lost my housing, put me in a depressing place within me, I had so many reservations about walking through those front doors, my anxiety was through the roof not knowing what to expect, in my mind I was awfullizing what it was going to be, visualizing the absolute. I took a deep breath and took the leap, and from the first moment I walked in the staff was professional and compassionate, I didnt feel judged either. The other residents were all respectful towards me as well as friendly and helpful guiding me through the expectations of us residents in the shelter. The food is amazing and always set out leftovers and good snacks and coffee all day and evening. The place is real clean, every one of us has a chore to do every day but all the chores are easy and dont take a lot of time to finish. Beds are comfortable, its quiet and a good place to go if you find yourself in a situation like I found myself in.
Nice place for a homeless person or family. For the most part the Mission is clean. They will feed you very well. Also you will be given the necessities to maintain your personal hygiene. The Rescue Mission of Mahoning County will assist in finding permanent housing after staying there for a certain length of time.
I love stopping at the Rescue Mission because its a place where the atmosphere is always looks where you can see helpful people serving beautiful smiles an making sure you have a warm meal in your stomach and feel an make you warm inside.
This place is a Christian, safe shelter for individuals, and families both. They have great staff, good food, and clothing available. Mvrm is supported by nothing but private donations, soon they will be celebrating 125 yrs in the Youngstown area. That also have a 9 mo discipleship program for men struggling with life or addiction problems. Its a great place for anyone to start over!
They are a Christain Homeless shelter and they genuinely care about the people here. It is safe and clean and a positive atmosphere for men women and children.
This place is doing amazing things for the community. They work hard to serve those in need and have very little resources to accomplish their goals but somehow still manage to continue the work. If you have the chance to volunteer for them I highly recommend it.
I honestly liked the program in general for the homeless to get back on their own two feet but, there is a lot of shadiness and this comes from a former Discipleship member of the mission, money that people put in to their account to save up goes missing like mine, to be honest, only 20 dollars but, it is still 20 dollars. That is enough for gas money and a snack to go. I have an issue with the fact that we were told as Academy guys that we are quote on quote, Showcase Items For Us To Get Funding, otherwise money and this comes from one of their lead pastors Pastor Teri. In general I support the Mission due to its place to rest and get away from lifes problems and a place to sleep with the comforting feeling of hope and warmpth.
Even though I was on the outside getting somebody everybody around that area was very nice and not needy or panhandling
If your homeless anywhere in the Mahoning Valley and you really want to make a change in your life this is the place to go I have been here for almost a month now and Im working on getting my own place and this has been a place for me to come home to every night they require that you be drug and alcohol free or at least be drug and alcohol free after you get there they will give you a place to stay if you really need it Im not going to lie conditions are not perfect but they are ideal for survival
Need to approve more an helping others needs
They treated me like family at my lowest. And i will never forget them. They are really helpful
I just want to thank everyone there great staff, great food.
Never be ashamed where you came from..Just strive to do better. I Thank God Above for this place for he alone will not lead me to where I dont need to be. I even found a church home to visit! Thank You!💜
Its a good place to get back on your feet
The people are so greatful to have the workers here. So much fun to help give food to those who needed it
This place change my life for ever, for the Best, I have nothing but Respect, Love for the Staff and clients I engage with, Good people and awesome memories, Much Love LaVar
While I never stayed here a friend of mine (female) and my now former girlfriend did. The staff (most of them anyway) are rude not just to me but to both ladies, and they dont know what is going on (both ladies wanted to see me and asked if I can go with them to the conference room to talk, two workers said yes but then they get yelled at for having me as a guest. I understand they cant fratenize with men but I didnt even live there). They have almost nothing to do for women but make men do everything. And while both are Christian I am not they shove there religious beliefs down your throat by making you go to chapel, bible study and church in Sundays. And both ladies got sick all of the time due to mold growing In the place. Hope I am not homeless ever because I will take my chances on the street rather than come here. Thankfully both ladies no longer stay here. Plus both have physical ailments and they give them kitchen duty when they shouldnt and they wont take no for an answer nor find some chores that are more accommodating.
Need your compassion, your love, donate if you can.
Very helpful Christan oriented shelter for the homeless. Always reaching out to help others. Clean facility and do have a small family section.
I have had nothing, I am also disabled. This great place fed me when I was hungry, many times. Helped my mother before she passed and what is repeated in every translation no matter denomination of the good word that In a time of severe uncertainty. I will not be afraid, for there is the word. And this century plus, long standing beacon in our city.
I often stop by The Rescue Mission of Mahoning County Because I See Friends By There While I am waiting for my transportation by the WRTA to give me a lift to my next destination and that is The Greyhound station where I see other members of the community an also my friends.
Used to be a spider farm and then an animal thrift, rescue. Former owners now visit old pets cheap.
Good place to donate clothes, food, or time to those less fortunate.
If you are homeless or hungry, great place to go, plus nice people to meet
Living here for 6 months was rough. When I first signed up, the only instructions was given about where my room was, the bathroom, and the kitchen. I didnt like the food sometimes. It was either old and molded or the person who was cooking could not cook. If u are not married, they will not let a woman and her man stay together. They force you to marry to stay there together. Chapel was mandatory when I was there and probably still is. They didnt care if you didnt want to go, if you didnt you must leave the building. The rooms are not adequate enough to stay there for a family of 3 and more. They do need a new building or try to renovate the old one.
I m Rock Bottom And Need A Helping Hand And Strong Guidence
Nice place. Clean and very positive atmosphere
They do good work. But when invited to appear by a denomination of a different theology to receive help and spread the word it is in bad form to prostheltize.
Very friendly and helpful in my time of need
An awesome foundation doing great things for the community excellent place to volunteer to help!
God bless alwaysMLLH&R
Offers a lot of assistance to the homeless population. Clean building and helpful staff.
I recommend the Discipleship Academy. I am a Graduate.
The Mission has helped me grow in my faith and overcome all kinds of problems. This place is on FIRE for the Lord!
Nice clean bed and three meals a day. Thank God for this place!
I work here and see the good the Mission does for their clients.
I love helping out those in need
Its a great place to find your self and its a place to learn about the lord !!
The Rescue Mission has helped members of my family tremendously! God Bless!
Very helpful to the homeless. Lots of resources
I love going there
Came in hopeless and depressed. Left with a sense of worth and a better direction in my life.
We were helping a migrant find a place to stay for the night, his bus wasnt leaving until the next morning. They were kind, it was a clean place, and they provided him with a bed for the night and breakfast.
Every time I spend an evening at the rescue mission my heart overflows with joy!
I stayed there security not great. They will help u find housing.
Show genuine concern for the people staying there
Food has improved
Its difficult finding a shelter that will provide the client with services without trying to indoctrinate them with their religious beliefs. This place provides the client with little options, but options none the less.
People who really care ! Amazing staff !
Helping the homeless free hot meals
Great for fast dinner if your broke
