There is a negative stereotype about mechanics that I have encountered for much of my driving life. My previous mechanic in Davis exemplified the stereotype perfectly, there was always something wrong with my car, always work to be done and every visit was expensive. This particular mechanics big focus was on me to get my head gaskets replaced, a $2000 job. One visit, this mechanic changed my battery without my consent (Id had no problems) and I decided that was enough. I left.I spoke to some colleagues in Woodland and they suggested Bowmans as an auto repair establishment with honesty, integrity and fair prices. I have been a very loyal customer ever since. Steve and his team do an excellent job at keeping my car (now at 230k miles) running like a dream. Theyre honest with their assessments and most of my tune ups require no further work. They give me estimates on when more major works are required. When bigger jobs are required, its not uncommon for them to charge me less than the quoted price because the work took less time than they thought. Interestingly, Steve told me my head gaskets were fine and 2 years on, theyre still fine.Despite moving to Vacaville to work, I still have been taking my car to Bowmans - you dont want to leave a great mechanic. I devastated now as Im moving abroad. Bowmans has been one of my favorite businesses in the region - they smash stereotypes and deliver excellent work.

His diagnostic prowess is on point as well, so you can come on in with the most esoteric of problems and he will be able to work it out. An amazing Random Act of Kindness -- thank you, Bowmans! I was traveling through the area when my car started acting up. I was towed to the shop after hours, and luckily Steven was still on site. He had my car ready for the road in 20 minutes...and then wouldnt take any money for his services. It turned my frustrating situation into a wonderful experience. I would definitely trust Bowmans to work on my car anytime.
