Carlos is the man. I never manage to plan my haircuts ahead of time and he is always willing and able to accommodate me at the last minute (though I usually call ahead; walk-ins are accepted but as expected you are taking your chances). I have been getting the Anderson Cooper of late and Carlos always nails it. After one recent haircut I went down the street to Quanto Basta where the bartender, a barber himself, said, Thats a great haircut.

Long time customer of Carlos, and happy that he is going out of his way to create a safe environment during COVID. Masks required, limited capacity, take temps. Easy to make an appointment on line.

You can get a straight razor trim, shoe shine, and many other options.The shop is clean and comfortable. There is always sports of some good movie on the televisions that are around the room.They offer a variety of products to help make your style stand out too.

Owner Carlos is a barbering vet of over two decades, but his business of people and aesthetic extends beyond his barbers license. Being new to the city, I was lucky to find The Oval Office for my first haircut in the area. Over the course of the cut I got the names of breweries and restaurants in the area that are worth checking out, as well as a great conversation about what the city is like. All ages and all demographics are welcome here. Since it was a slow holiday afternoon I was able to be accommodated as a walk-in, but he gave me his card with the recommendation that I make an appointment in the future in case he had a full day already scheduled. And I will definitely be making appointments in the future- its good to know that in a new city, Ive found a top notch haircut and a new friend in town.

Down here for a business conference and I used Google Maps to find this place. A lot of good reviews so I checked it out. All I can say is wow. Carlos is an absolute professional and I was not let down. He took his time and I received the best haircut of my life as well as getting my beard trimmed. People started coming in about halfway through and a line started to form. But this did not make him rush himself one bit, he still took his time and made sure that he delivered a haircut that he was proud of and that I was more than satisfied with. Place also had a great atmosphere. Wish there were more places like this. You dont find a quality shop like this very often.

After looking for a real barber shop in the Winston/Greensboro area, I decided to give the Oval Office a try. Wow. Walked in, sat down in the chair, told Carlos what I wanted, and just enjoyed the rest. Hand scissored haircut, careful beard trimming with hot towel treatment. Truly a great experience and Carlos is a real professional. Looking forward to my next visit.

Carlos somehow makes a haircut mean something, like some sort of essential ritual that every true man should partake in. Definitely one of the best barber shops I have ever been to. Carlos is a likable guy; ask him about cigars. Although the haircuts do take a while, they are worth the time. He also provides discounts to Wake students, which is really helpful. I am planning on trying one of his shaves at some point....

Carlos Carvana is a professional and a true old-school barber. Hes classy, respectful, polite, and really knows how to pamper the customer. He gave me the best haircut Ive had in years, and he has now given me a straight-razor shave twice. The barrage of hot towels and fragrant crèmes and shaving oils is as relaxing as it gets. The Oval Office understands the ritual of the old fashioned shave, and you will leave feeling and smelling like a man. Ill be making this place a tradition.

First and foremost I want to let everyone know that this is my first time writing about a business. I was on vacation from the Bay Area in California. I was going to be in town for 3 weeks so I needed to find a place to get cut in the meantime. I looked online and saw that this barbershop had the best reviews out of every other shop. I met Carlos seemed like a nice guy but didnt really talked to me much about my haircut. I told him what I wanted. I wanted him to shave my beard as well. He started cutting my hair and he seemed like he was cutting a little too much. He later told me during my cut that I wouldnt be able to shave your beard but I can cut it with the clippers. I was like can you just line it up. I asked him if he could just straight razor my eyebrows just to clean them up and he said that its not something he is used to. So he didnt do eyebrows. After completing the haircut I told him thanks and went to the register where the charge was $37. I told him damn thats a lot of money for a haircut he came back with the response Im just trying to pay the bills. Let me tell you something people I thought California charged a lot for a haircut and this place showed that it can be beat. This place is a rip off and I did not get what I want. If anyone thinks that this place is good then you really have never went to a legit barbershop. Would not recommend to anyone. Please please please go somewhere else.

Today was my first visit to The Oval Office, and Ill definitely be a regular. As soon as you enter the door, you know youve stumbled upon something special. Typically, youre not going to be thrown by the interior of a barber shop, but you probably will be surprised by this one.Youll first see a comfortable waiting area with a flat screen HDTV, varied mens magazines (GQ, Maxim, etc.), as well as complimentary assorted nuts and miniature candy bars. The design aesthetics are upscale, but theyre not pompous. Its a classy and relaxed vibe. Ive been to a few barber shops, and salons with my sister when I was younger, but this place goes above and beyond. Its a relaxing and inviting atmosphere as soon as you step in the door, and thats before youre even greeted.Carlos is the owner / operator and currently the only full-time barber, although his father works part-time and there is a massage therapist. I havent seen his father or the massage therapist, but Carlos is probably the nicest barber youll ever encounter. Hes knowledgeable, soft-spoken, and witty. You cant please everyone in life, but I have a hard time imaging someone not getting along with him. Hes also clever - the walls feature Republican and Democratic presidents, from classic to modern - no one will be politically offended here.I went today for a haircut, which runs $18 for adults, although apparently $15 for youth. I also took a friend of mine who was shaggy, stressed, and broke. I paid for his haircut and a classic straight razor shave. The straight razor shave costs $30, and thats definitely higher than the average for the area. I feel like it was money well spent, though, and I wasnt even the one who was shaved.Carlos starts off with a pre-shave oil, and follows up with a folded hot towel. Then he uses old fashioned shaving cream brushed on, followed up with a hot towel. After that he uses modern shaving cream and starts with the straight razor. I was shocked by how precise and detailed he was with the shaving - its really more of a performance than it is a shave. This is not the type of shave youll get from old country barber shops where its over as quickly as it starts - and so its not something youd get frequently and inexpensively. Its the type of shave you want before an important event, a first date, or an interview. Youre going to look and feel better.After several steps of flawless shaving comes - you guessed it - another hot towel, and immaculate cleanup. My friend went from looking homeless and depressed to probably the cleanest and most relaxed Ive seen him in ages. I cant grow enough facial hair to justify that sort of shave, so I feel like Im missing out, to be honest. My friend described the shave as the most relaxing shave of his life, like a manly massage.I went for the haircut and shampoo, which costs $24. Carlos takes the time to determine exactly how you want your hair cut, and hes a perfectionist. I appreciate his dedication and the time he spends to make it precise, but Id also caution that you set aside an hour or two for your visit (depending on whether you want a shave or not), and make a reservation if possible. As I said earlier, its a comfortable environment, so I didnt mind the relatively short wait, but this is not the fast food of barber shops. Its a place to go to be treated with great respect and unwind. Carlos is exacting and detailed, but hes also very polite and humble.I could say a lot more, and I could have said a lot less, but I think it would be doing the establishment a disservice to not mention some of the best aspects of the Oval Office. After talking with him, its clear that Carlos set out to raise the bar for barber shops when he opened four years ago. Without a doubt, he has succeeded at redefining the barber shop experience for the modern man. Highest of recommendations.

Let me start with the positives. Nice place, very classy, right downtown. Carlos cut my hair and I should have known something was wrong right after I shook his hand. He is more of a sytlus than a barber. His technique will show you that. I dont understand all the good reviews posted here. I also found out recently he has done some employees dirty. He accepts the payment with his phone for them and then shorts them later. I have looked for a good barber on several occasions and only found one. Hard to keep looking when so many dont know what they are doing. It really comes down to training. The cost of the cut was surely sticker shock when the quality of the cut is low.
